Starting from 02/19/2018, AVTOVAZ began producing the Lada Vesta with an updated automated manual transmission (AMT 2.0). The upgraded gearbox is installed only on cars with a 1.8 engine. Za Rulem experts managed to test this Vesta and compare AMT 2.0 with the regular version.

How does AMT 2.0 differ from the regular version?

  • The time to change gears from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd is reduced by 30%.
  • “Creep mode” / CRAWL MODE has appeared - this is a programmed AMT function that allows you to start moving the car forward (selector position A/M) or backward (R) without pressing the gas pedal.
  • “Winter mode” has appeared. It is used to ensure confident starting of the car on slippery surfaces. “Winter mode” allows you to start driving from 2nd gear.

About gear shift times

  • The box really began to “click” faster, this is noticeable even to a non-specialist.
  • Shift times depend on the gear and how hard the driver presses on the gas. On average - minus 30% compared to the “pre-reform” version. For example, the previous robot spent 2.6 seconds on the transition from first to second when driving “in a third of the pedal”, the new one - 1.8. If you press “to the floor”, the parameters are 2.0 and 1.3 seconds, respectively.
  • The box has become faster to shift not only up, but also down
  • Gone are the annoying and dangerous delays when, after a smooth decrease in speed, you press the gas, and the electronics spend a few seconds wondering what speed it needs to turn on.

For me, any gearbox seems comfortable. It’s another matter when my wife encounters a Lada Vesta. She often has to rent a car, so I’ll leave a review from her. As a beginner, I couldn’t cope with AMT right away. My wife seems to be a capable driver, but it really takes a lot of practice.

The disadvantage is the many functions associated with the brake. Various driving techniques like “crawl mode” definitely make driving in traffic easier, but you still need to skillfully use the switch from stop to drive.

The wife noted more advantages:

  • fuel consumption has decreased compared to the previous car, which has a good effect on the family budget;
  • There are no visible problems with the AMT - no repairs were needed during the six months of operation;
  • There is a noticeable time between gear changes, but for a careful driver (wife) there is no inconvenience.

It's difficult to say about Vesta's AMT in a positive way. The developers still have work to do. If possible, I will replace the car with something adequate, but at the same time I can drive for the rest of my life.

About the work of “Crawling mode”

  • Lada Vesta with “Crawling Mode” does not start as quickly as cars with a classic automatic transmission. The robot thinks for a second, then slowly shifts into gear, and only after that does it start moving.
  • In “Crawling Mode,” the car starts moving, making the engine tremble, as if an inexperienced driver has not yet gotten used to the manual transmission.
  • The speed during Crawl Mode depends on the gear engaged. On the first it is 7–8 km/h, on the second – 14–15 km/h, on the rear – 5–6 km/h.
  • In a traffic jam on a slight rise, you will have to use the old scheme to speed up the car with the gas pedal. When the brake is released, the automatic system engages first gear more slowly (the car begins to roll backward) than when commanded by the accelerator pedal.

Conclusions and comments

  • The gearbox control selector is the same.
  • Changes became noticeable almost immediately after the start of movement.
  • With the advent of the “creeping” mode, the issue of clutch life returned. Time will give the answer.
  • Acceleration time to 100 km/h has not changed.

The robot in version 2.0 has become much nicer. The main shortcomings of the gearbox have been corrected, but the gearbox is still inferior to the classic automatic transmission, the robot with two clutches, and the CVT. There's nothing you can do about it - that's the design.

Let us remind you that in order to upgrade the AMT to version 2.0, it is necessary to flash the engine ECM and AMT. AVTOVAZ responds to this issue as follows:

Technically, it is possible to do a flashing, but you need to re-equip the engine. You may, at your own risk, have your dealer perform this work, but in this case the vehicle will be outside the scope of the warranty.

The new Lada Vesta SW Cross station wagon is easy to drive, economical (almost not on the highway), very comfortable for its class, and the design of the interior is also pleasing! I recommend! I've traveled long distances and I don't feel tired at all! I am pleasantly surprised by the multimedia system, sound, plus a rear view camera and parking sensors! Additionally, I would like to note the interior capacity, quite accommodating even for tall people, both in the front and in the back!

I like everything! And the design, which was later licked off by Renault and Nissan and Hyundai, and now Kia))) And quite decent comfort of anatomical seats, and with high stature (pushing the front seat all the way back) Comfortable dimensions of the rear passenger seats. Appearance

Externally, the new body of the 2022 Lada Vesta SW Cross will be difficult to distinguish from the old one, since design changes are minimal. In the photo you can only find a more prominent profile and a slightly modified radiator grille with optics.

The car's muzzle boasts a slightly longer and higher seating position. The hood, as before, has a wide and long protrusion in the center, giving the car a more daring look. The center of the bumper is still shaped like the letter “X”. The main air intake is rectangular. Its grille is made of plastic and is complemented by several horizontal thin lines. A continuation of the air intake is rectangular optics, the filling of which, unfortunately, remains only halogen.

Further, the insert narrows greatly, and towards the end it expands again into another air intake. This plastic part ends with a metal protective insert. You can also find metal protrusions in the center, the perimeter of which is trimmed with chrome, and inside them there are small rectangular cutouts with fog lights.

As mentioned earlier, the Vesta SW Cross received more relief from the side. In addition to the main one - X-shaped, you can also see such elements as swollen wheel arches with plastic coating, a protruding sill, also made of unpainted plastic, slightly redesigned mirrors with turn signals, huge windows separated by pillars, and other details.

The rear bumper of the car has not changed much. It still protrudes strongly to ensure maximum spaciousness, is decorated with a visor over the trunk door glass, rectangular stylish optics and relief, and is also protected by a plastic body kit with a metal insert, which has two cutouts - one with a forked exhaust pipe, and the other with an eye for towing.

The interior of the car has become much better. The 2021 Lada Vesta SW Cross model year offers the buyer a good finish made of plastic, fabric and artificial leather, an improved multimedia system and a decent range of options. On the center console you can find such details as a good multimedia system display, which is controlled by buttons and a washer located on the edges of it, air ducts, as well as a panel with the car’s climate control settings. You can also connect various external accessories to the car, thanks to several connectors also located on the dashboard.

The steering wheel finish has also been improved. Now it has become pleasant to the touch, fits well in the hand, and the buttons located on the spokes will allow the driver to more easily interact with the functionality of the car. The instrument panel has also changed slightly.

Unfortunately, the chairs have not changed much. They are still made of fabric and filled with far from the softest material, which has a bad effect on long trips.
