Types of generator on Niva

The difference between Niva generators lies in the years of production of the car. Niva carburetor engines had their own generator, and injection engines had their own. It should be noted that both generators are driven by a V-belt.

Generator Niva 21213

The VAZ 21213 is equipped with its own type of generator, since this model is carburetor, the generator in it is slightly different from the injection one. The carburetor field generator has catalog number 371.3701.

Niva 21214 is fuel-injected and is equipped with a more modern type of generator and has catalog number 9412.3701.

Description of the scheme

When the ignition is turned on, voltage is supplied to terminal “61” of the generator (terminal “B” of the voltage regulator). The excitation winding is energized. The electric current comes there from the ignition switch, through the mounting block, and the battery charge lamp in the instrument panel. Conclusion “61” before starting the engine is the “ground” of the control lamp.

After starting the engine, “plus” comes from terminal “61” of the generator - the control lamp goes out. The excitation winding begins to be powered by three additional diodes on the diode bridge. Electric current is supplied to consumers and to the battery from terminal “30” of the generator.

A diode is built into the electrical circuit, allowing current to flow in only one direction.

In addition, through a resistor, the minus can be supplied to the excitation winding, bypassing the light bulb (if it is damaged). This ensures backup starting of the generator. The resistor and diode are located in the instrument panel next to the battery charge indicator lamp.

The electrical circuit of the control lamp is protected by fuse No. 2 in the mounting block.

Notes and additions

A generator 9412.3701 is installed on a Niva 21214 car with an injection engine. It has some design differences from 371.3701, but the principle of operation and operating procedure are the same.
