The VAZ 2110 stove is perhaps the most problematic and capricious mechanism in the entire car design. You cannot do without a stove or a faulty interior heater radiator on a VAZ 2110, given our cold climate. If in the summer a non-working stove may not bother you, then with the onset of the cold season it often turns out that the stove on the VAZ-2110 is blowing cold air. Today we will try to talk in great detail about the design, repair and replacement of the heater on the “ten”. For clarity, we will supplement the text with photographs and videos.

Let’s say right away that the design of the heating system on the “ten” is fundamentally different from what was on the old VAZ models. The most important feature and difference of the interior heater is that the VAZ 2110 heater radiator and its fan are located not in the cabin, but in the engine compartment. This design has its advantages, for example, to replace the heater radiator or stove fan, you do not need to completely disassemble the front panel (dashboard).

By the way, the SAUO unit on “tens” of different years of production varies. Since 1996, 4 types of SAUO controller have been produced. It is worth taking this into account when purchasing a unit as a spare part. It is this device that controls the temperature in the cabin and the operation of the fan. You can set the temperature from 16 to 28 degrees.

But how does this miracle device work? On the ceiling of the “tens” cabin there is a temperature sensor or a ceiling air sensor with a built-in (very small) fan for air circulation. It is this sensor that sends information about the actual temperature in the cabin, and the SAUO unit gives a command to the micro gearmotor (MMR), which in turn opens or closes the main damper, which is responsible for the access of hot air to the cabin. When the temperature in the cabin changes, the ceiling sensor gives a new signal, the micro-gear motor is activated, turning the damper, closing or opening the access of hot air to the cabin. The electronic control unit includes:

  1. Controller handle. This device makes it possible to set the temperature in the cabin, which is produced by the stove unit. The controller handle sets the air temperature, which corresponds to that outside, and is turned on by turning the handle (up to 30 degrees Celsius). This part is usually called the ACS controller.
  2. The temperature sensor controls the activation of the heater when the air temperature in the cabin decreases by 2 degrees against the set one. The sensor has a microfan, and when the control knob is located in position A, a micromotor in the stove block turns on, after which the damper begins to operate, which ensures proper heating. Therefore, before repairing the heating system, you need to check the operation of this sensor. It is located near the heating lamp on the ceiling. Since its repair is not provided, if it breaks, this device must be replaced immediately.

Many owners of “ten” complain that at some point the stove constantly blows cold air and no amount of turning the handles of the automatic heater control system can save the situation. There can be a lot of problems and malfunctions. For example, the ACS controller itself is faulty, the ceiling sensor or micro-geared motor is faulty and simply does not open or close the damper. Another reason is the air (air lock) in the heater radiator, which is simply not capable of heating the air passing through it. Below is a schematic representation of the VAZ 2110 heater device .

Often the cause of poor performance of the “tens” heater is the damper of the VAZ 2110 heater . The damper may not close tightly or open poorly. The heater flap itself is made of plastic, which can become warped and perform poorly over time. Many car owners buy a metal damper and change it themselves. It is quite simple to determine the performance of a stove fan by looking at the noise. If the fan motor burns out, then it naturally will no longer work. However, before rushing to change the stove fan, you need to make sure that the fuse has not blown. As we already wrote above, the fan of the VAZ 2110 stove is located not in the cabin, but in the engine compartment. To get to it, you will need to remove a special apron that separates the engine compartment from the heater housing, vacuum brake booster and windshield wiper mechanism. So we got to the stove fan, removing the apron and heater casing. By the way, next to you you will see the cabin filter, in the housing a little to the left. It needs to be pulled out and cleaned. If no one has changed the filter before you, over many years of operation it is seriously clogged with debris and interferes with the normal circulation of air, which is sucked into the cabin of the VAZ 2110.

The radiator of the “tens” heater is located in the same place as the fan, that is, under the hood (see photo above). To remove it, you must first remove the fan from the heater casing. If you notice a strange smell in the cabin, lift the floor mats; if there are puddles of antifreeze or antifreeze, then the radiator of the VAZ 2110 heater is leaking. If you cannot adjust the temperature of the air that enters the cabin, the fault may lie in the temperature sensor located on the ceiling, near the ceiling light. To check it, turn the control all the way to the right, then bring your hands to the air flow that comes from the heating system. If heat flows no matter what position the regulator is in (in the red part), then the problem is not with the sensor. But, if air flows only when the regulator is located in the maximum heating position, it must be replaced (or the regulator itself needs to be replaced).

You also need to check the condition of the damper. You get to it through the engine compartment - you need to remove the central deflectors and move the flap by hand. If you have to remove it, it is better to replace the plastic one, which comes standard, with an aluminum one, since it does not freeze and deform so quickly.

Basic Workflows

  1. Drain the coolant.
  2. We find two hoses on the heater, which are secured with clamps. One serves for the outflow of liquid, and the other ensures its supply. There is no point in unscrewing the clamps completely; it will be enough to loosen them a little and easily dismantle them.
  3. The VAZ-2110 heater valve may require replacement due to depressurization. In this case, there is a high probability of coolant leaking into the passenger compartment.   6. There is a bracket nut on the air duct, which must also be dismantled. At this stage you will need a 10mm wrench.

  • There are clamps on the heater body; they will need to be disconnected.
  • First of all, you should disconnect the right air duct, which due to its specific design can be a little complicated, which will make the work easier.
  • There is a bracket with a fastening on the flexible cable, which just needs to be loosened a little.
  • On the stove tap on the VAZ-2110 there are two nuts that serve as fastenings. To remove them, it is convenient to use a 10mm wrench. The valve is attached to the radiator using bolts. In some cars you can find a plastic tank, which is secured using cage nuts. The bottom nut in this design often falls out, so caution and attentiveness will not be superfluous. When assembling a device with this design, you will need to disconnect a pair of springs, due to which the fan housing is attached to the side where the faucet is located. All that remains is to lower the body a little, pressing down on it, and tighten the nut of the bolts.
  • Now the tap can be easily removed and replaced with a new model.
  • Assembly is carried out according to the same scheme, but in strictly reverse order. It is advisable to replace all gaskets with new ones. They are very inexpensive, but the heating of the car will annoy you less with its poor quality work. To ensure maximum adhesion, you can use special sealing agents.
  • Our work is completed by pouring coolant into the system. After this, we start the car and bring the temperature to 90 degrees. Open the tap and look for possible leaks. If there are none, the replacement of the tap can be considered complete.

Set the fan control knob to position A, and the temperature knob in accordance with the temperature measured by the control thermometer. If after 15 minutes the actual temperature in the cabin does not correspond to the set one, remove the controller from the socket and turn the adjusting screw clockwise to increase the temperature and counterclockwise to decrease it. After adjustment, check the operation of the control unit again. The control unit, temperature sensor with microfan, micromotor and heater damper position sensor cannot be repaired and must be replaced with new ones if they fail.

Disassembly and assembly

Replacing faulty parts in a VAZ 2110 heater is not very difficult, requires a minimum of tools, but takes a lot of time. Almost all work is carried out from the engine compartment, where the heater is mounted on the engine panel.

To gain access to it you need to dismantle:

  • Engine shield insulation;
  • Plastic trim under the windshield (“jabot”);
  • Windshield wiper mechanism;
  • Left and right heater covers.

The resistor is located on the right side (if we stand in front of the bumper and look at the engine compartment), it is secured with a screw. To get to it for replacement, you will have to remove the vacuum booster.

The cabin filter is “hidden” on the left in the opening inside the car; you can simply reach it with your hands.

The “old” and “new” non-interchangeable options were used; to replace, purchase a filter similar to the one installed.

To replace the heater and faucet on a VAZ 2110, you must first drain the coolant. To remove the stove, you need to disconnect the two pipes on the clamps and the steam exhaust hose. The stove itself is not attached and is held in place only by pressing the lid against the heater body. You can replace it with copper or aluminum, the former heat much better due to the high thermal conductivity of copper, the latter are more durable and cheaper.

At the tap, you need to disconnect two more hoses, which can be accessed from the interior by removing the glove box (“glove box”). The tap itself is attached to two 10mm nuts; before removal, the drive cable is disconnected. When replacing, new rubber seals must be installed.

Assembly is carried out in reverse order, the entire process can take more than four hours.

The need to replace the stove (heater) tap on VAZs is often caused by the fact that the tap is “dripping” or “stuck”. In both cases it needs to be replaced.

A leaking heater tap is more unpleasant, as it can lead to coolant flooding the entire interior. Such a malfunction may be indicated by wet marks or the smell of antifreeze in the cabin. To find the source of the coolant leak, you should inspect the heater valve. However, if cracks appear in the pipes or in the radiator, be aware that they can lead to an antifreeze leak.

If upon inspection it was possible to verify that the problem is in the valve of the VAZ 2114-2115 stove , it should be replaced.

To replace the VAZ 2114-2115 stove valve you need:

  • a new heater tap (it is better to use a ceramic one, equipped with the necessary rubber gaskets and seals);
  • penetrating fluid WD-40;
  • a set of wrenches (you will need both ring and socket wrenches: “10”, “13”)
  • Phillips and flat screwdrivers;
  • clean coolant container;
  • silicone based sealant;
  • inspection pit/lift.

Instructions for replacing the heater valve VAZ 2114-2115

  1. Place the vehicle on the inspection hole. Drain the coolant into a prepared container. You can read about how to do this and where to find the drain plug in this article.
  2. Loosen the clamps of the pipes that go from the engine to the heater tap. Clean the threaded connections of the studs securing the heater valve. To do this, you can use a metal brush and penetrating liquid.
  1. Remove the pipes one by one. In this case, coolant leaks are possible; it is better to prepare the container.
  2. In the cabin, dismantle the side trim of the torpedo and pipes (if necessary). If they are not planned to be replaced, there is no need to unscrew them. Use a rag to remove any remaining antifreeze.
  3. Using a 10mm socket wrench, unscrew the nuts that secure the heater valve.
  4. Inside the cabin, pull the tap towards you, remove the spring clamp, and disconnect the control cable from the tap.
  1. After this, you can install a new stove tap. Before screwing it on, you need to connect the cable.

Reassemble in reverse order. Between the body and the tap you need to install new gaskets and seals, add sealant when connecting the pipes. Before pouring antifreeze into the cooling system, you must tighten the drain plug.
