Changing the air filter on the 8-valve Lada Largus engine (video inside)

If the timing belt contains not 16 valves, but 8, replacing the air filter on the Lada Largus looks trivial. It will be enough to unscrew a few bolts and screws, and then remove the plastic cover - the filter element can be changed immediately. You don't even need to disconnect the battery! The problem is that the Renault 8-valve in question came in two different versions. Each of them will have its own instructions.

What the 2011 engine looks like is shown in the video below. Let's see how to replace the filter.

Maintenance. Deadlines

The manufacturer sets the following maintenance periods for a Lada Largus car: every 15,000 kilometers or 1 year, whichever comes first.

Each service requires changing the oil, cabin and air filters. The Lada Largus fuel filter, according to the regulations, must be changed as part of an assembled module along with the fuel pump every 160 thousand kilometers.

Filter articles

Lada Largus for 2022 is equipped with two types of engines:

  • 1.6 l 8 valves (90 hp);
  • 1.6 l 16 valves (106 hp);

Until 2022, Lada Largus cars were equipped with two more types of engines from Renault: 1.6 l Renault K7M / 8 valve. (84 hp) and 1.6 l Renault K4M / 16 valves. (102 hp). The consumables for them are completely different. If you have a car manufactured before 2022, be careful!

In our case, the article numbers for filters for two types of domestic engines are the same and are presented in the table below:

Air filter on 8-valve Largus

At the factory, the 8-valve Largus is equipped with an original Renault filter with catalog number 165469466R . Country of manufacture: Romania. The filter element has a rectangular shape. There must be felt on the back side.

Replacing the oil filter

The oil filter is replaced together with the engine oil change. In order to change the oil, we purchase consumables in advance: engine oil, flushing oil, oil filter. We find the required article number for the filter in the table above.

We warm up the engine and drive onto an overpass, lift or pit. 8-valve or 16-valve engines have slightly different locations and appearance of some parts, but the work of replacing the oil filter is identical. We carry out the work according to the list:

  1. Remove the crankcase protection.
  2. We find the oil drain plug, unscrew it and drain the used oil into a container with a wide neck. Screw the plug into place.

  3. Pour flushing oil into the oil filler hole. We turn on the engine. We drive it at idle for 10-15 minutes. We repeat point 2 (see above).

  4. Remove the oil filter. It is located between the engine and the radiator. Removed from above. To make it easier to remove the filter, use a special attachment.

  5. Lubricate the seat seals of the new filter and screw it in place of the old one.
  6. Pour the required amount of oil into the oil filler hole (it is different for each engine).
  7. We check: there are no leaks. We turn on the engine. We study the dashboard: is there a signal that the engine is operating in abnormal mode? Let's check the leaks from the bottom of the engine again. If the engine is running and there are no leaks, then turn off the engine and screw on the crankcase protection.
  8. After ten minutes, when the oil has settled in the crankcase, check the oil level with a dipstick. If there is not enough oil, add it to the required level.

The oil filter replacement is complete.

Air filter Lada Largus 8 valves article number

Recently, motorists have become accustomed to ordering spare parts and consumables via the Internet. It is much simpler, cheaper, and there is more choice. If in the nearest auto store on display there are usually 2-3 filter options for a specific car model, then through online stores you can order a filter from absolutely any manufacturer. But an article number may be required to order.

Please note that the number of this filter is suitable for the VAZ-11189 engine. For the 8-valve Renault engine there is a different filter.

So, air filter Lada Largus 8 valves - article number 165460509R.

Under this article you can buy a filter from three manufacturers - Renault, Nissan and Lada. In fact, it will be the same filter, only packed in different boxes and at different prices. The manufacturer of this filter is MANN Filter, as evidenced by the logo on the filter element.

Replacing the cabin filter

  1. We find a filter installed under the dashboard on the passenger seat side.

  2. Bend the filter latch a little. We take out the old filter. It will be gray from accumulated dust.

  3. We take a new filter. It consists of corrugated paper or cellulose in a plastic case. We insert this structure in place of the old filter. You may have to tinker, as the filter does not fit easily. In addition, there is inconvenient and limited space under the dashboard. Insert the filter until the lock clicks.

This completes the replacement of the cabin filter.

Lada Largus: changing the replacement element of the air filter of the 8-valve engine

Replacing the air filter

If you have a car produced before 2022, then the procedure for replacing the air filter is as follows:

  1. Open the engine hood. We find the air resonator, it is to the right of the engine. Let's disconnect it. We're filming.
  2. Using a Torx N-20 wrench, unscrew the two screws that secure the air filter housing: located immediately behind the engine. Remove the air filter housing.

  3. We replace the old cartridge with a new one.

  4. We assemble in reverse order.

Around mid-2022, new type air filters began to be installed on Lada Largus. Replacing it has become easier. There is now a rectangular plastic cover behind the battery.

  1. We bend the latches, tilt the lid and take out the cartridge with the old filter.

  2. We replace the new filter, insert the cartridge into place, and the lid slams shut until the latches click.

The air filter replacement is complete.

General aspects: when to change

The instructions that come with the Lada Largus suggest the need to replace the filter every 20 thousand km of mileage. Here we recommend making an adjustment for this scheduled maintenance period and reducing the indicated period. This need is caused by the peculiarities of operating a car in an environment of increased pollution and gas pollution, which is important for modern megacities and dusty unpaved “destinations”.

If you neglect to replace this important component, the consequences for the engine can be very sad. The engine will begin to experience air starvation, which will negatively affect not only fuel consumption, but will also cause increased oil consumption. And this already “smacks” of a quick overhaul of the unit, because the components of the piston group will not keep you waiting long. A practical difference between modern elements is the ability to clean them by washing. Thus, the service life of these components is approximately twice as long compared to traditional filters.

Replacing the fuel filter

According to the maintenance regulations, the fuel filter is not changed often: every 160,000 kilometers. You may never have to do this. But there are times when it is necessary to change the fuel filter earlier. The fuel filter may become clogged due to the use of low-quality fuel, and dirt, water or oil may enter the gas tank. Result: the car does not start or does not gain speed. Recommendation from experienced mechanics: the fuel filter needs to be replaced.

The work required to replace the fuel filter is as follows:

  1. Remove the back seat and lift up the carpet.

  2. Remove the inspection hatch cover.
  3. Disconnect the electrical wiring, then the fuel hoses. Gasoline may spill. We follow safety precautions!

  4. Unscrew the fixing ring and remove the fuel filter assembly with the pump.
  5. Let's move on to the workbench. We change filters: coarse and fine. We check the operation of the pump. If necessary, we change it.

  6. We assemble the disassembled unit. Carefully install the fuel filter in reverse order.

The fuel filter replacement is complete.

Air filter replacement interval Lada Largus 8 cl

If you adhere to the technical regulations, then the air filter is changed either after 15 thousand kilometers or after 12 months - it all depends on what comes first.

I consider this a completely normal replacement period, but provided that the machine is used as normal. If the car is operated in difficult conditions, then it is better to change the engine air filter a little more often - for example, after 10 thousand kilometers.

Looking ahead, I will say: “since the Lada Largus 8-valve air filter is very easy to remove, if possible, you can blow it out with compressed air. This will significantly extend its service life.”
