2013 Lada Kalina 2. Review (interior, exterior, engine)

    History of creation

The development of a new family after the VAZ-2110/2111/2112 bodies began in 1993: at the same time, the body of the next generation off-road vehicle, the Lada Niva VAZ-2123, was formed, in the same style with which the bodies of its related family were designed "Lada Kalina". In 1998, the designed car was named “Lada Kalina”. Prototypes were demonstrated in 1999 - a hatchback, in 2000 - a sedan and in 2001 - a station wagon. Pre-production copies from the OPP, created using bypass technologies, had separate headlights from the VAZ-1111 Oka. By the start of mass production, the appearance of the body was partially revised - especially its front part, which received the nickname “laughing dolphin”, as a result of which it acquired more strict forms. Something similar to the pre-production samples returned with an appearance update (restyling) in 2013. Cars of this generation were the first to be designed using computer technology, which helped to make good (optimal) use of the available space dictated by the dimensions of the body. The bodies of this family differ from the previous Lada 110/111/112 bodies by their greater roundness and headroom[4].[5]

    LADA Kalina II

    Media files on Wikimedia Commons

On November 18, 2004, production of sedan cars began[1]. , and on July 21, 2006, the assembly of the VAZ-1119 hatchback began (the sale of the first car took place on August 4).

In July 2007, production of the Lada Kalina began with a new 16-valve 1.4-liter engine, and in September of the same year, AvtoVAZ began producing a model with ABS. In 2007, due to a defect in the steering column, 6,200 sedan cars produced in December 2005 - January 2006 had to be recalled (they were repaired by an AvtoVAZ dealer).

Due to a defect in the casting of the steering gear housing, AvtoVAZ recalled 171 LADA Kalina cars, which were produced on May 24 - 25, 2006. In addition, AvtoVAZ recalled 8,400 LADA Kalina cars due to defects in engine mounts. Over two years, 80 thousand cars were assembled, the daily assembly rate was 335 units. In 2007, it was planned to reach a production rate of 145 thousand per year.

At the beginning of 2007, the last car of the family, the VAZ 1117 station wagon, was put into production, and in September of the same year, the entire family began to be equipped with a 1.4-liter engine (VAZ-11194)[6].

In May 2007, during a visit to AvtoVAZ, Russian President Vladimir Putin test drove the Lada Kalina on a test track. According to him, he managed to reach a speed of 120 kilometers per hour[7].

In 2008, based on the VAZ-1119 hatchback, a sports modification, Lada Kalina Sport, was created, available with 1.4-liter VAZ-11194 and 1.6-liter VAZ-21126 engines. The model is almost identical to the standard model in the “luxury” version, the only differences are in the original details: bumpers, door moldings, spoiler, exhaust pipe nozzle, nameplate on the fifth door “Kalina Sport”, instrument cluster with white scales and orange backlight, dark interior, sports pedal pads, front seats with pronounced lateral support, Kalina Sport embroidered on the front seats, original K&K alloy wheels (including for the spare wheel, while in the “luxury” version the spare wheel is on a stamped wheel).

According to the Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses (AEB) for 2009, the LADA Kalina family ranks 4th in the ranking of the most popular models in Russia. In 2009, 60,746 cars were sold[8].

In mid-July 2010, during a conference of AvtoVAZ marketers, the head of the concern’s budget car program, Vasily Batishchev, said that in addition to the constant modernization of the LADA Kalina family (in particular, in 2010, a black “basalt” interior went into production, and some of the trim levels began to be supplemented with a standard audio system) By 2012, the plant is preparing a major update of configurations and external restyling for the entire family.

On May 1, 2011, the AvtoVAZ press service announced that the plant would cease production of the LADA Kalina sedan car, replacing it with a new budget car Lada Granta[9][10].

In the first five months of 2011 (January-May), LADA Kalina took first place in the number of cars sold in Russia (59,249 units)[11]. In December 2011, AvtoVAZ completed the transition of the Lada car model range to the Euro-4 eco-standard.

On March 1, 2013, production of the first series Lada-Kalina in the hatchback body was discontinued due to the modernization of the conveyor for the production of the second series car[12]. On June 1, 2013, the station wagon was discontinued.

    Characteristics

The engine is equipped with an electronic fuel injection and ignition control system. The design of the car body meets modern safety requirements. Due to its length being shorter than that of the LADA Samara family of vehicles, the VAZ-1119 has better maneuverability and is more adapted to driving conditions in an urban environment. Depending on the configuration, the car was equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), driver and front passenger airbags, air conditioning, and electric power steering. Since the beginning of 2011, the LADA Kalina family has been equipped with an electronic gas pedal “E-gas”.

    Options

    LADA Kalina

was produced in four trim levels:

    • 1.6 l 8-valve engine that meets Euro-2, 3 standards (standard version)
    • 1.6 l 8-valve engine that meets Euro-4 standards (standard version). Produced since 2011
    • 1.4 l 16-valve engine that meets Euro-3, 4 standards (standard version with luxury elements)
    • 1.6 l 16-valve engine that meets Euro-3, 4 standards (luxury version). Released from November 16, 2009.

Unrealized projects of modifications of the LADA Kalina family

After an unsuccessful attempt to replace the Oka car in 2003-2006 with the VAZ-1121 model, AvtoVAZ made a second (and last) attempt in 2007. It was supposed to replace the Oka with a 3-door A-class hatchback based on the LADA Kalina.

The project was named VAZ-11174, and the official name was LADA Kalina City. The car did not receive any special changes (80% unification with the VAZ-1119). But this car was never released. The consumer niche occupied by the Oka car is still free[13][14].

There was a project for a compact minivan for the Lada Kalina family, which was assigned the index “VAZ-1120”, but it did not go into production[15].

Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of Lada Kalina 2192

The body here resists corrosion well; the first rust appears on the fifth door. The paintwork is not very resistant, but chips on the body do not turn yellow quickly.

The budget interior of this car does not please with its finishing materials or sound insulation. Also, the front seats are completely uncomfortable, and the windows do not roll down all the way.

The interior electrics have become more reliable than those of the old model, but failures sometimes occur. The advantage of the machine is the very wide availability and low cost of spare parts.

The weakest 1.6-liter 8-valve VAZ 11186 was installed only on the basic versions. With timely maintenance, the only concerns are oil leaks or sensor failures. All Kalina internal combustion engines were equipped with a lightweight piston and the valves bend when the belt breaks.

1.6-liter 16-valve engines with the indices VAZ 21126 and VAZ 21127 are distinguished by the presence of an adjustable intake and DBP-DTV sensors instead of the usual mass air flow sensor of the older one. They do not cause any particular problems for the owner; if breakdowns do occur, they are minor: sensors fail, the thermostat sticks, sometimes grease leaks from under the valve cover.

The mechanics of the VAZ 2181 with cable-driven control are much nicer than the old box. Typically, owners complain about lubricant leaks and a strong whine at certain speeds.

The classic 4-speed automatic transmission Jatco JF414E practically does not cause problems, which cannot be said about the new VAZ 2182 robot; read about it in our separate material.

Kalina's suspension is simple and quite reliable, it lasts a long time, and it won't ruin you during repairs. Up to 100,000 km, stabilizer struts or rear wheel bearings are often replaced.

There are no complaints about the brakes; the steering shaft wears out quickly.

VAZ0, “Grant” color, “Lux” equipment. Manufacturer's recommended retail price is 445,000 rubles.

CASCO RUB 28,600, OSAGO RUB 5,800.

So, what do we get for this money?

Engine: 21126, 72 kW/5600 rpm, 145 Nm/4000 rpm Transmission: Automatic, four-speed, JATCO. Nice things: Heated windshield, multimedia system, DRL, PTF, two airbags, electric power steering, heated and electrically adjustable mirrors, heating, climate system, athermal glass.

From first impressions the car is excellent for the money. The automatic transmission is, of course, a little dull, but for leisurely driving around the city it’s quite excellent. The ride is smooth, the suspension eats up potholes and cracks in the asphalt, but it rolls a lot when cornering. I really liked the head lighting. Seats: I didn’t like the seat upholstery, it was too runny, it seemed like it would start to wear out in a few months. The plastic is quite pleasant, for me it’s better than that of the Priora. For multimedia, let's start by listening to the radio.

Upcoming work on the car. Liquid fender liners with lockers. A mesh in the front bumper, otherwise the holes in it are too big, and the radiator is expensive. Crankcase protection. Shvi trunk. Fog lights in yellow and install xenon. Get rid of chromium on PTF eyelashes.

it’s good that it’s not 127, the torque is 3 Nm higher, and because of the power you only have to overpay for insurance and tax)) it’s better to put shafts for the money saved and it will be much more fun than the 127))

Kirill, you are absolutely right about the tax. Plus, the cost of insurance is higher. I've already thought about rollers. But this won't happen anytime soon. And if they are, they will be very small. enzo, I don’t know for sure. But Kalina and Granta are as unified as possible. So, I think the beam is from Granta. And she's a hatchback.

added after 1 minutes 11 seconds How to turn off the turn signal buzzer? And I already got it. And the belt warning light is annoying. For now I fixed it using the old-fashioned method.
