Tire size is one of the most important parameters that can significantly change the behavior of a car on the road. In our review we will tell you about the permissible tire size on the Grant, as well as what the size of the tires affects during the operation of the car. Let's start with the tire and wheel sizes allowed by the manufacturer.
What wheels were installed on different bodies and configurations?
In four different configurations of Lada Granta, the diameter of the wheels used ranges from 13 to 16 inches:
- Standard - 5Jx13ET35, 5Jx14ET35, 6Jx14ET
- Standard - 5Jx14ET35, 6Jx14ET
- Lux – 5Jx15ET35, 6Jx15ET
- Sport - 5Jx15ET35; in the sports package they also began installing wheels with a 16 radius and low-profile tires in size 195/50R
The first digital designation of these markings indicates the width of the rim in inches, the following indicators from 13 to 16 are the diameter of the disk, ET35 is the offset in mm.
The standard bolt pattern parameters are the same as those of old VAZ models - 4x98, that is, 4 holes, the centers of which are located along a circle with a diameter of 98 mm.
The diameter of the central hole according to the hub used is 58.6 mm. The most popular rim size among Lada Granta owners is considered to be R14, but many people prefer to drive on 15 rims.
How can I find out about the disk parameters myself?
The technical passport of a particular car contains information not only about what factory wheels it has, but also contains instructions for installing them. If this useful guide is not nearby, then you can arm yourself with a ruler and visually determine the characteristics of interest.

If you need to choose 15-inch wheels, you must have knowledge regarding such parameters.
- “ET” (offset) - denotes the numerical expression of the distance between two planes, or more precisely: the surface of contact with the hub and the vertical plane of symmetry of a particular product. The indicated value is intended to indicate how much the disk is able to “peek out” from under the wing. The parameter affects the degree of stability of the car. Typically, the numerical criterion for overhang starts at 40 mm.
- “DIA” is the diameter of the hole that allows the wheel to fit onto the hub surface. When choosing a product, you should take into account the corresponding hub parameter. The measurement is carried out in millimeters.
- Bolt pattern (in our version 4x98). The first number in the formula means the numerical composition of the fastening bolts, and the second is the diameter, on the line of which the centers of the holes for fasteners are located.
- Disc width. This ordinary characteristic is usually expressed in inches. For LADA Granta the following values are valid: 5; 5.5 and 6.
Armed with the above information, even an inexperienced owner will be able to select a suitable set of disks, thereby replacing the factory disks.
The next thing to consider might be the type of 15-inch wheels you plan to purchase. Let us remind you that these products are forged and cast (we do not take into account stamped ones). Here the main criterion will be the owner’s budget.
Standard disk sizes
When talking about wheel sizes, it is not enough to just mention their diameter. The remaining parameters are important for understanding whether they are comparable to the hub of a Lada Granta car, as well as what type of tire they are intended for.
For example, rim width is the size of the tire seat. The mounting hole pattern gives an idea of whether additional spacer adapters will have to be used. As noted above, this car uses a 4x98 wheel installation scheme with a center of 58.6 mm.
Disc offset is a fairly important indicator, especially when using wide wheels. It reflects in mm the distance from the hub mounting pad to the plane that visually divides the rim into two rings of equal width. Disc diameters are measured in inches.
As standard, the Lada Granta is equipped with sizes R13, R14, R15. It is rare to find a model with 16 discs.
The table shows the recommended tire sizes and the corresponding wheels.
Tires | Discs |
175/70R13 | 5Jx13ET35 |
175/65R14 | 5Jx14ET35, 6Jx14ET35 |
185/60R14 | 5Jx14ET35, 6Jx14ET35 |
185/55R15 | 5Jx15ET35, 6Jx15ET35 |
195/50R16 | 6.5Jx16ET29 |
The numbers indicated through a fraction in the tire size mean: tire width / profile height as a percentage of the width. The Latin letter “R” indicates the type of tire - radial. The last numbers correspond to the diameter of the disk.
A little about wheels
Tires - Today, these are one of the most high-tech products on which safe and comfortable movement by car directly depends. There are a large number of tires on the market today from many different manufacturers. They consist of a frame, a protector and a breaker layer between them. And also the toughest part of the tire - the bead, which is designed for reliable fixation and sealing on the rim.
Disks - In the modern world, a wheel includes two parts: the rim - which is a surface closed in a ring with sides on which the tire is fixed, and the disk - which is a support for the rim with holes for fixing the entire wheel to the hub, most often using bolts or hairpins. Currently, there are the following types of discs: stamped, cast, forged, composite and combined.

Parameters of standard nuts
One of the main parameters of nuts or bolts is the shape of their pressing surface, which can have several varieties. When selecting the necessary nuts, you should proceed from the shape of the recess in the mounting hole of the disk.
Most often it is necessary to use bolts or nuts with a cone-shaped clamping part. As a rule, the cone has an angle of 60°. Sometimes such bolts may have a 1.3 mm head and a nose at the end of the nut.
The clamping surface of the fastener can also be flat or hemispherical. It is important that the clamping planes of the fastener and the disk fully correspond to each other. Otherwise, over time, as a result of strong dynamic loads, the attachment point will weaken. When choosing nuts with closed heads, you should pay attention to their length.
If the pin prematurely rests on its inner part, then it will not be possible to fully tighten it. Also, nuts that are too short may not leave room for the socket head of the impact wrench. Some wheel models only allow the use of hex or star nuts.
When choosing bolts, you need to consider their length. A reliable connection can only be achieved if the bolt is screwed in to the entire threaded thickness of the hub. However, if it is too long, then when the car moves, such fasteners will begin to cling to internal structures.
Ideally, the tip of the bolt should only protrude a couple of threads when fully tightened. Bolts are made only from steel, but nuts can be steel, aluminum or titanium.
Is it advisable to pay attention to alloy wheels?
Casting has long been popular, including 15-inch versions for LADA Granta. Compared to analogues, these products have several advantages:
- a lot of various offers on models and manufacturers;
- light weight, providing a slight increase in dynamic capabilities and reduced fuel consumption;
- more affordable cost compared to forged analogues;
- the use of corrosion-resistant alloys in the design, which allows the product to provide a decent service life.
What drives can be installed
It is clear that any car manufacturer, just like AvtoVAZ, always recommends installing only its original sets of spare parts. But replacing a wheel rim with non-standard samples has long been considered completely commonplace.
Often such a replacement can even improve handling characteristics and reduce financial costs. The wrong approach to this issue can lead to the repair of suspension elements and the entire chassis of the car.
Owners of Grants sometimes notice that the standard set with winter tires copes with its functions worse than the less wide non-standard options. Wide wheels are prone to skidding and hydroplaning.
Regardless of the reasons why the discs are replaced, inexpensive stamped products, cast or forged options can be installed on the Lada Granta. If the stamp is made only of steel, then the material for the production of light alloy wheels can be aluminum, titanium and magnesium alloys.
Stamped wheels, despite their unattractive appearance, are in high demand due to their practicality. Firstly, this is the cheapest replacement option, and secondly, with strong impacts such a product will only bend, which can always be fixed, and the unattractive appearance can be easily hidden with inexpensive plastic caps.
But their high weight reduces the dynamics of vehicle acceleration and increases fuel consumption, which often tips the scales towards the purchase of cast and forged wheels, which, due to their lightness and high thermal conductivity, improve dynamics and contribute to faster cooling of the brake elements. Products made from titanium alloy have the most attractive appearance and have the best strength, but they are also the most expensive of this product segment.
Their aluminum counterparts are more popular. They are not as expensive as titanium, but in terms of strength they meet all safety requirements, and, moreover, they look great. The disadvantages of cast wheels include their worse strength characteristics than stamped steel options and high cost. A strong blow can permanently damage the disk.
Lada Granta wheels
Lada Granta is a pretty new car. The first Grants appeared a couple of years ago and did not arouse much trust or interest, as the very ambiguous reputation of the manufacturer itself was reflected.
However, at the moment the Lada Granta is the best-selling car in all regions of the Russian Federation in its price segment.
In addition to the growing demand for the car itself, interest in consumables and car components, in particular, wheel rims, began to increase. The insufficient quality of roads in the Russian Federation leads to rapid wear or deformation of the disks, and yet choosing a high-quality sample for the Grant is not so easy!
What kind of disks can be installed?
The manufacturer recommends installing only the original set of disks on the Grant, however, many drivers often resort to installing analogues of non-standard parameters.
In the case of installing non-original rims or tires, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the vehicle: with the correct selection, the car’s handling will improve and the cost of components will decrease, if incorrectly, you will have to buy other new parts or repair the chassis and suspension in the near future.
This is interesting! Drivers operating the Lada Granta have more than once noticed that the original set of wheels for winter tires does not always successfully cope with the assigned tasks. Many drivers recommend choosing wheels for the winter with the narrowest form factor possible, which should have a positive effect on the vehicle’s handling.
What size wheels and tires are preferable in different situations?
Manufacturers make their products in different sizes not only so that they look aesthetically pleasing on your car. There is also a practical reason for this. Original Granta Sport wheels meet all driving safety parameters.
For a relaxing ride
If your driving style is calm and moderate, most often you drive on asphalt roads, then it is best to choose road tires. If the goal is not speed, then you should choose the smallest wheels possible.
For racing
Wheels directly affect speed. In the case of aggressive driving, the situation is different and it is necessary to select the largest wheels (within acceptable limits). This difference cannot be noticed with the naked eye, but it is there, albeit small.
Off-road
The wider the tire and the higher its profile, the easier it will be for the car to overcome off-road bumps. Therefore, the choice is obvious - the largest and highest-profile wheels are definitely suitable for driving off paved roads.
The most comfortable
If the car is used for family trips, where comfort overshadows other characteristics, then you should choose wheels with tires with the smallest possible radius. For Lada Granta Sport this figure is R15. Only under such conditions can you get comfort and not worry about bumps and potholes on the road.
Better maneuverability
The car's handling directly depends on the size of the selected wheels. To improve maneuverability, it is necessary to increase the contact patch area, and this can only be achieved by using wider tires. Moreover, an increase in the diameter of the wheel is always associated with a decrease in the height of the tire relative to the disk, which means that such a wheel turns out to be harder and reacts more strongly even to small irregularities. This is good for driving on perfectly flat roads with smooth turns, but bad for sudden maneuvers where there are even small but sharp changes in elevation.
Snow and ice
It is unlikely that anyone will separately select wheels for snow or ice during winter use. But those who are exactly sure what kind of surface they will have to drive on in winter need to choose wheels adapted to certain conditions.
It is necessary to choose wheels taking into account weather conditions
Wide tires are suitable for icy surfaces due to the fact that the contact patch with the surface is larger and the grip on the road is better.
The situation is completely different with narrower wheels - they perform well in the snow. The contact area is minimal and the pressure is higher, which helps push the snow.
Wet road
On wet roads, drivers may experience a phenomenon called hydroplaning. This is the name of the process when a car gets into a deep rut with water and loses traction, which means it loses control over it. Here, the size of the Grant Sport wheels does not matter, only the tread is important. Tires with wide drainage channels cope much better with wet roads.
Dimensions
For the Lada Granta Sport, it is possible to install different wheel sizes. As standard, the car comes with 15 and 16-inch alloy wheels. These dimensions are calculated by the designers as optimal for a sports car. In this case, the chassis will operate most efficiently and have a minimum level of wear on components and parts. Exceeding the recommended dimensions is at your own risk and may have undesirable consequences.

If possible, when replacing wheels it is best to install ones made by forging. These are the most durable and lightweight products that can significantly improve the performance of the machine.
To select high-quality rims for Grant Sport, you need to know the size of the mounts and other parameters, as well as determine the optimal size of the wheels themselves.
Wheels for cars
Immediately after its release, the Grant model gained great popularity among consumers. In connection with this, the manufacturer decided to expand the model range and release the Granta Sport sports modification.
Wheels "Lada Granta Sport" R16, original
Due to its great popularity and domestic production, there are a huge number of offers on the market for the sale of components and spare parts for the car. These include Lada Sport wheels. The sports version of the car is equipped only with alloy wheels of only two sizes, 15 and 16 inches.
Note!
The manufacturer, the Lada concern, recommends installing only original spare parts and wheels.
However, it often happens that the owner of the car wants to stand out. In such cases, installing wheels from various brands, the products of which are widely represented in stores, will help. For those who want to save money, buying replicas or used products is suitable.
Important!
If you want to get maximum sportiness, you can install R17 size wheels on the Granta Sport.
On such large rims, you can forget about smoothness and comfort, but you can get maximum controllability. There is also a risk of not meeting the permissible dimensions. In this case, the tires will rub against the wheel arches and other structural elements when cornering. This will increase wear on both all chassis parts and the wheels and tires themselves.
If, due to various reasons, the car owner is faced with the question of replacing disks, then it is necessary to take into account many different parameters. Among them, you should take into account the dimensions of height and width, wheel offset, drilling and others. If the selected products have the following characteristics, they will definitely fit the car:
- Cast wheels with dimensions 185/55 R15 and 195/50 R16;
- Large products with dimensions 175/55/R17;
- The company that produces Granta Sport, the AvtoVAZ concern, has an agreement with the manufacturer K&K. The products of this brand are unified for the machine and have all the suitable sizes and necessary parameters.
If the car is operated on original or any other wheels, the manufacturer indicates that during cold periods it is advisable to install narrower wheels and tires. This helps provide greater stability in poor conditions such as snow, ice and other slippery surfaces.
"Lada Granta Sport" on individual forged wheels
Among auto athletes and simply tuning enthusiasts, it is common to replace wheels with larger ones and rework wheel arches and other structural elements. In this case, it is important to remember about the possible loss of warranty, since the manufacturer declares certain dimensions that should not be violated. In addition, increasing the size greatly affects ride comfort, although it improves handling.

How to choose stamped products
The version of the Lada Granta Sport under consideration can only be equipped with alloy or forged wheels. Installation of stamped products is not provided by the vehicle manufacturer. However, if necessary, such wheels can be installed; to do this, you should adhere to the listed parameters.
They are not very attractive in terms of appearance and are absolutely not suitable for a sports car. If the decision to install stamping has been made, then it is advisable to operate it in the cold winter season. Such wheels will significantly worsen the technical and dynamic characteristics of the car.
