New Volkswagen Tiguan 2022: photo and price, crossover characteristics
For a long time, one of the most popular representatives of the mid-size crossover class has been the Volkswagen Tiguan 2. Its success is due to a good combination of reliability, practicality and a high level of comfort.
But in order to stay at the top, it is necessary to carry out frequent restyling, which is what the company does. The new model, shown not so long ago, differs from its predecessor in a more stylish design, an improved interior with advanced multimedia and good technical performance. Unfortunately, the price of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan was slightly higher than its predecessor.

Reviews from Volkswagen Tiguan 2 owners
The car is simply a miracle. For that kind of money, it is impossible to find such a reliable and innovative car in this segment. The only thing is that you need to replace Android Auto (with a wired connection in the 21st century) with Yandex and run all the options included in the program by default.
This is my second Tiguan; before that there were different brands. Overall a very good car. I don’t even know what to put in the cons. The hood was opened only to pour fluid into the washer. From MOT to MOT I didn’t do anything myself. THAT is a little expensive: 15 - 18 thousand rubles. When there were severe frosts up to 30 degrees, the heating system failed, I figured it out myself, removed the terminal from the battery and everything was restored.
Sometimes an error appears in the front parking sensors, but when you clear away dirt or ice, everything returns to normal - there are no more complaints. Now everything is functioning normally.
Inconvenient multi-steering wheel control system. For example, to disconnect the interlocutor you need to go to the menu on the steering wheel. Less comfortable chairs, back support, now what is there, what is not. They reminded me of the Lada Granta chairs. Previously, I drove a Tiguan for 700 km without stopping and my back didn’t hurt, but now I’ve driven it, and in the parking lot you can stretch your back. The seat material itself leaves much to be desired. The feeling is synthetic, although the car costs more than 1500 million.
It gets dirty instantly and is difficult to clean - I will buy covers. Stiffer suspension, on speed bumps there is a constant feeling that the struts are about to break through the body. I don't really like the driving experience of the new Tiguan. I don't like the power steering setting. By the way, they never fixed the jamb of the head unit, displaying the names of the contacts in reverse.
If the contact is recorded Last Name First Name Middle Name Position, then the screen will display everything the other way around: Position Middle Name First Name Last Name. It's annoying and infuriating when typing.
There are two Tiguans in the family, the first 170 hp sport style and this one 220 hp. highlight. Both one and the other give only positive emotions. These are universal machines that can do everything, especially the 220 mares. The evolution is striking, there are many useful features, for example, Android Auto, you can display everything you want on the screen from your smartphone, navigation, calls and the Internet with movies.
I advise you to visit the coders and unlock useful features. The car drives and handles perfectly, and if you make a chip on this engine, the acceleration figures will be around 5.5 seconds to 100, a normal crossover!

Oil change work in automatic transmission Tiguan 2.0 TSI
This generation of Volkswagen Tiguan has a filter with a metal mesh (on newer ones made of synthetic fibers). For such an automatic machine, it would be correct to first remove the pan and replace the filter, then collect and fill in new transmission fluid.
- Using a wrench, unscrew the drain plug from the transmission pan. A little less than one liter will drain
- Use a 5 mm hexagon to remove the overflow cup and drain the remaining oil from the Tiguan automatic transmission
- We unscrew all the bolts holding the transmission pan. Corrosion is visible in the photo, so I recommend replacing the bolts with new ones when removing the pallet (otherwise, next time you may have difficulty unscrewing)
- Remove the pan, there will be some ATF in it
- Unscrew and remove the old filter
- There is a small amount of abrasive on the magnets but no significant or obvious signs of wear and no brass. The filter mesh is also in very good condition
- Remove the old seal from the automatic transmission pan. We wash off all the residue from the pallet
- We install clean magnets and a new rubber seal on a thoroughly cleaned pallet.
- We are preparing the automatic transmission for installing a filter and pan.
- We tighten the new filter 09G 325 429 A using a torque wrench with a force of 11 Nm.
- Having previously degreased the surface in contact with the rubber seal, we install the pan in place. Bolt tightening torque WHT 000 309 8Nm
- Returning the overflow glass to its original place
- ATF is supplied to the gearbox through the drain plug, so we pour the transmission fluid into a filling container. With a partial replacement, approximately 3.9 liters will be needed.
- We screw the hose of the filling device into the pan and pump oil into the automatic transmission under pressure. As soon as the oil begins to flow back (its level becomes higher than the overflow glass), stop the supply and start the car
- In order to accurately set the ATP level in the automatic transmission, you need to drain the excess oil from the box at a temperature of 35 degrees. We connect the diagnostic program and follow the instructions for warming up and monitoring the oil temperature (for those who do not have the ability to connect, you can heat the automatic transmission to body temperature, using your hand as a meter)
- Disconnect the filling container and let the excess liquid drain
- Once the stream has become thin, you can screw a new plug into the pan (according to the regulations, always install a new washer). Torque 27 Nm
Technical specifications of Volkswagen Tiguan 2022
The specifications of the Volkswagen Tiguan 2022 fully meet the needs and requirements of the modern automotive market. According to the manufacturers, the chassis of the SUV is adapted for comfortable driving on flat surfaces, but when traveling outside the city, where there are primers and various uneven surfaces, the model behaves quite well. In complete off-road conditions, the ground clearance will seem a bit small.
Even before the start of sales was announced, the manufacturers declassified all the specifications of the engines with which the car will be produced.
There are several options available for gasoline units with varying degrees of boost, as well as diesel engines:
- 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine with 150 horsepower and a 6-speed manual transmission. The engine is equipped with a direct fuel supply system, has a rotational potential of 250 Nm and is available on models with front-wheel drive. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 9.2 seconds, and fuel consumption is 7 liters per 100 km in the city, 5.1 liters per 100 km on the highway and 5.8 liters in the combined cycle. The maximum speed is 202 km/h. For an additional fee, you can choose a robotic gearbox with identical dynamic characteristics, but increased fuel consumption.
- 2-liter 180-horsepower gasoline engine with 7-band robotic gearbox and torque of 320 Nm. This engine is installed on all-wheel drive versions of the SUV and provides a maximum vehicle speed of up to 208 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 7.7 seconds. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 7.4 l/100 km, in the city – 9.1 l/100 km, and on the highway – 6.4 liters per “hundred”. Forced version with a power reserve of 220 hp. and a torque of 350 Nm accelerates to 220 km/h. Reaching the first 100 km/h takes no more than 6.5 seconds. In the city, the car consumes 9.7 l/100 km, on the highway – 6.8 l/100 km, and in the combined cycle – 7.8 liters of gasoline fuel.
- The diesel line is represented by two-liter TDIs with 150 or 190 horsepower. The engines are equipped with a 7-band “robot” and a Common Rail direct fuel supply system. The “younger” version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds, and the forced one in 7.9 seconds. Fuel consumption for the 150-horsepower engine is 6.8 liters per 100 km in the city, 5.1 liters/100 km on the highway and 5.7 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle. The 190-horsepower engine requires 6.5 liters of fuel per 100 km in the urban cycle, 5.2 l/100 km on the highway and 5.7 liters in mixed use.
Tiguan with manual transmission
Despite the fact that 2022 is just around the corner and a huge percentage of car owners have recognized the splendor of automatic transmissions, there are still drivers who prefer classic mechanics. Its advantages can be considered:
- control depends entirely on the driver;
- fast gear shifting compared to automatic transmission;
- lower fuel consumption compared to automatic transmission;
- the ability to tow a car;
- reliability;
- ease of maintenance.
Judging by the reviews of owners of Tiguans with manual transmission, no one had any problems with this transmission, which indicates its reliability.
Several versions and trim levels with manual transmission will be available in Russia:
Trendline
- 1.4 125 hp — 1,459,000 rubles;
- 1.4 150 hp 4motion - 1,659,000 rubles.
Comfortline
- 1.4 125 hp — 1,559,000 rubles.
It is worth noting that European drivers got a wider variety of engines, which include a 2.0-liter diesel engine with a power of 150 hp; cars with this engine and gearbox can have front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Volkswagen Tiguan 2022 specifications and prices
If you want to learn more about current configurations and offers with prices, check out this material.
The main condition for restyling the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan was to maintain similar attractiveness of price lists, consumer properties and technical characteristics. As a result, configurations and prices will not undergo major changes. The version of the popular German crossover in the new 2nd generation body after modernization was supposed to debut in March, however, in light of recent events, the release date was slightly shifted in time. Main competitors: Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai and Toyota RAV4. The buyer will be offered 4 trim levels to choose from: Respect, Status, Exclusive and R-Line. The price of the restyled Volkswagen Tiguan 2021 officially starts at 1,749,000 rubles for the initial modification with a 1.4-liter turbo engine, 125 horsepower, manual transmission and front-wheel drive.

The initial version of the Volkswagen Tiguan 2022 can also be ordered with a manual transmission. With the exception of the descent assistant, the equipment is identical to the previous version. A robotic transmission is included in the list of options. And for the same prices in the showrooms of official dealers for the Tiguan crossover, you could previously choose 2-liter diesel (150 hp) and gasoline (180 hp) modifications. Now the heavy fuel unit is excluded from the range. The flagship modification R-Line is distinguished by a sporty body kit of the new model, the presence of electric front seat adjustments with a massage function, adaptive headlights and cruise control. Also offered is a leather interior and an automatic parking system.
DQ500
A modification of the robot DSG7-0BT/0BH is installed on the Tiguan. This is one of the best representatives of transmissions from the VAG concern.
Since this DSG was released 7 years after the first robot, in 2009, it absorbed the experience and best technologies of the manufacturers. Not only VAG specialists, but also American engineers worked on it.
The 7-speed gearbox with two wet clutches can withstand significant torque, which sometimes reaches up to 600 Nm. It is not surprising that the unit was installed on powerful passenger cars, commercial vehicles and minivans.
Design
DSG7-0BT/0BH is a preselective mechanism with two input shafts, which are located one inside the other. Each of them has individual gears and synchronizer clutches that correspond to odd and even rows. Hydraulic cylinders operate the forks, which engage/disengage the clutch. Mechatronics is responsible for the movement and pressure of the hydraulic working fluid.
Principle of operation
The box instantly, in less than 0.01 seconds, switches to the next gear without loss of torque. This effect is achieved due to the fact that the gears of all gears of one of the rows, even or odd, are always in mesh. At this time, the clutches of the second row are in the readiness stage. The selector handle changes gear and the load is transferred to these gears. Thanks to this, the gearbox changes gears very smoothly without wasting a lot of fuel.
In addition, the robot adapts to the driving style. It can work both softly and harshly. It will only take a short time to adapt.
The unit is serviced once every 60,000 km. It is recommended to fill it with oil G 052 182.

Flaws:
- heavy weight;
- vulnerable mechatronics solenoid valves;
- high cost of the box;
- a heat exchanger that gets dirty quickly, which requires cleaning after three to five years (the unit often needs to be replaced).
Modifications and options
Today, Russian car enthusiasts have access to Volkswagen Tiguan 2022 crossovers with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, and the total number of available trim levels reaches five:
The initial level of equipment, for which dealers ask from 1.35 million rubles (all-wheel drive - from 1.55 million), is ready to please with the presence of 6 airbags, cruise control, a heated steering wheel and front seats, an auto-braking system, three-zone climate control. control, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a wide range of auxiliary systems (ABS, ESP, ASR, etc.) In the richest versions, the cost of which can reach up to 2.3 million rubles, the equipment includes:
- LED headlights,
- heated rear passenger sofa,
- parking sensors,
- digital "tidy"
- more modern multimedia system;
- electric tailgate,
- tire pressure monitoring system,
- 18-inch wheels and more. etc.
New body
4 years have passed since the appearance of the second generation of the crossover in a new body, so the Volkswagen Tiguan is awaiting a planned restyling. The updates will be deeply evolutionary in nature, and the main external difference is the headlights, made in the style of the new Golf hatchback with characteristic pointed direction indicators. The radiator grille, front and rear bumpers, and taillights will also undergo correction. The modernization of the model will take place not only in the direction of improving the design of the exterior and interior, but will also affect the technical characteristics. As a result of the latter, modifications of the Tiguan 2022 will appear, such as a charged version of the R and a rechargeable hybrid GTE with a total power of 245 horsepower and a range of up to 60 km on pure electricity. The capacity of lithium-ion batteries is 13 kWh. The new Tiguan has a lot in common with its older brother, the Volkswagen Touareg.
Interior
The interior of the Volkswagen Tiguan 2022 will also be similar to the restyled Golf, from which the modernized interior will receive a digital instrument panel and expanded functionality of the proprietary multimedia system. In addition, the interior trim may receive improved materials, and noise levels will be reduced by greater use of soundproofing mats. Similar changes await the interior of the long-wheelbase version of the Tiguan (Allspace), with a wheelbase increased by 110 mm, three rows of seats and a 7-seater interior. Plus, during the update, the composition of the equipment and the list of electronic assistants will undergo corrections, among which adaptive cruise control with an autopilot function stands out. The palette of body paint colors and finishing materials will be expanded.
Suspension
The car has a completely independent suspension, which provides enough comfort and performs well on country roads. The well-known MacPherson strut is used at the front, and a multi-link system at the rear. There are also many electronic assistants.
The units are paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, and for an additional amount you can get a 7-speed DSG robotic gearbox. There are also both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions.
In the end, I would like to say that the German manufacturer has successfully released a new generation. The car has become much better and more modern. Like the previous generation, this is ideal for a family man. It’s unlikely for young guys, since he’s not the most dynamic. The manufacturer cares about its customer and therefore offers the buyer three trim levels: TrendLine, Comfortline and Highline. You can buy it with confidence, but don’t forget to evaluate your competitors, you might like them better.
Mechanical box
Various modifications of Tiguans are equipped with three types of manual transmissions with a single-plate dry clutch. These are 6-speed units with minor differences in design.
The two-liter engine is paired with a gearbox with a different main pair, and the version with the 1.4 TSI has a gearbox with different gear ratios in 3,4,5,6 gears.

Handling and off-road performance
One of the distinctive features of the new Tiguan is that it is very easy to drive on asphalt. According to this parameter, the German crossover is quite comparable to more expensive passenger cars. On-board electronics play a significant role in this; they can eliminate driving errors. Thanks to its relatively compact size, the VW Tiguan demonstrates good maneuverability. When making turns, the car accurately maintains the chosen trajectory, which is facilitated by the connected all-wheel drive.
The crossover has a 201 mm ground clearance, due to which the VW Tiguan can be freely used off-road. At the same time, all-wheel drive and a robotic gearbox do not tolerate constant high loads. In addition, the low-performance starting engine is not capable of pulling the crossover out of the mud. Therefore, when operating the Tiguan, it is better to avoid going off-road.
How long does the DSG 7 transmission last?
Replacing a unit from unofficials costs approximately 55,000 rubles. Average clutch life of the DSG7
latest modification – 70,000–90,000 km. It is noticeably higher than its predecessors. At the same time, transitions beyond the psychological bar of “100,000 km” are becoming more and more common.

Dynamic characteristics and fuel consumption
A Tiguan with a starting engine consumes an average of 6.5 liters of fuel and accelerates to 100 km/h in 10.5 seconds. Installing a more powerful 1.4-liter turbo engine results in the first figure increasing to 6.8 liters, the second decreasing to 9.3 liters. A Tiguan with all-wheel drive and a 180-horsepower unit accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds, consuming about 8 liters. The top-end engine provides acceleration to “hundreds” in 6.8 seconds. Average fuel consumption increases to 8.4 liters.
