The oxygen sensor has become unusable

The importance of this component of the on-board engine management system (or ECU) for any car, including the Lada Kalina with an 8-valve engine, cannot be overestimated. Over time, the lambda probe requires replacement. This sensor serves to record the amount of oxygen present in the exhaust gas stream. Receiving certain impulses from this oxygen sensor, the on-board control module adjusts the composition of the mixture, which leads to a decrease in the volume of unburned oxygen in the exhaust. Also, the operation of the lambda probe partially characterizes the level of fuel consumption.

Failure of the designated sensor initiates the appearance of the warning lamp, and as mentioned above, the reasons are different. This action is performed due to the lack of a signal from the computer required to control mixture formation. Such a malfunction entails an increase in fuel consumption and causes a decrease in the power level of the power plant. Most modern cars are equipped with two or four lambda probes.

It is not difficult to determine the fact that the oxygen sensor has failed. Here you will need to connect the scanner to the appropriate diagnostic socket of the car and turn on the reading program in the device. Faulty sensors cannot be repaired and are therefore replaced with new analogues.

The main reasons for the probe to malfunction, if the check engine light comes on, is contamination of its working element with oil impurities entering the exhaust manifold. In this case, there is a decrease in sensitivity, leading to incorrect readings.

Neglecting the problem can cause a malfunction of such an expensive exhaust circuit component as a catalyst. The cost of the sensor itself is commensurately less than the price of the neutralizer, so we do not recommend delaying the replacement of the lambda. The replacement procedure is characterized by the absence of difficulties. The main thing here is to adhere to the provisions of the relevant instructions.

Diagnosis of errors

When you begin to notice something unusual in the behavior of your car, or there are obvious problems in its operation, then it certainly makes sense to have it diagnosed. Naturally, the OBD-II diagnostic connector will show errors most efficiently and accurately, however, not everyone has sockets to control this connector and has to use the standard one.

In order to enter self-diagnosis mode, you must:

  1. Turn off the ignition.
  2. Click on the daily vehicle mileage button.
  3. Then, continuing to hold it, turn the key in the lock.
  4. Thanks to this, all available indicators will light up, and the dial indicators will go into self-test mode and show data from zero to maximum.
  5. When this happens, use the button located on the steering column switch and use it to switch the data on the instrument panel.
  6. To read the fault codes, we need the last one - the third screen. Unambiguous error codes will be displayed there.

A terrible problem that occurs with viburnum is a broken timing belt. It is impossible not to notice this problem. It doesn’t happen that you start the car in the morning and the belt is broken.

If not, then you need to turn the pulley (in rotation) until the marks match. The work is troublesome, you need to disassemble a lot of things to get where you need to, you also need to keep track of the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft, in general there is a lot of fuss.

Diagnostics

If you notice that something is wrong with the operation of the Lada Kalina vehicle, then it makes sense to diagnose the car. As a rule, all breakdowns appear immediately after checking the car. You can ask for help in carrying out diagnostics at a service station, where you will pay a certain amount for this service, or you can do everything yourself. On the first one you can see the process of checking the functionality of the instrument panel. The second will show the version of the software installed in the car, and the third will show combinations of faults.

To check your car for breakdowns, hold down the daily mileage button and hold it while turning on the ignition key. At this time, all arrows will go from zero to maximum.

Then press the button located on the steering column wiper switch. This is done in order to switch the data mode on the instrument panel screen.

To read combinations of faults in a car, you will need the last screen. It will display clear codes. To obtain four-digit combinations of faults, use special equipment or the services of specialists at a service station.

Poor quality fuel

Spark plugs can also flood due to bad gasoline. This is another reason why the engine does not start. Very often, condensation forms in winter and clogs the coarse filter. To avoid this, periodically add pure alcohol to the tank in winter.

Of course, there are severe cases when filters and injectors become clogged and they have to be washed out for a long time and tediously (or whatever is easier to change), but this happens mainly when buying gasoline from some garage “oil workers”.

It’s quite easy to protect yourself from them - just refuel at trusted places and under no circumstances buy gasoline from any garage gas dealers. In principle, they are not such a common occurrence now, but they still occur, and people buy gasoline from them because it is cheaper, but it is better not to do this, the stingy pays twice - an immutable truth.

And if you really had to buy such a piece of water, at least filter it, there is no need to clog the filter with nozzles.
