    We remove the fuel filter from the clamp, while removing the filter pin from the holder on the clamp.

    Since fuel remains in the filter, we drain it into a previously prepared container.

    Install the filter in reverse order.

    In this case, the arrow on the filter housing should be directed in the direction of fuel flow (towards the front of the car).

    When to change the fuel filter

    There are points by which you can determine that the time to replace the filter has already come, although the required 30 thousand km. The Volkswagen Polo has not yet passed. We bend our fingers and find out the problems:

    • the engine does not start, although the starter turns properly and the fuel gauge indicates a full tank;
    • the engine “troubles”, this is especially felt at idle speed, although vibration and uncertain operation of the engine are also felt while driving;
    • when you press the gas, “dips” occur in the operation of the power unit;
    • acceleration time increased;
    • The engine suddenly stalls, both at idle and while driving.

    If at least one of these symptoms appears, you should pay attention to the fuel filter and, if necessary, update it.

    We put the tip of the tube with a blue clamp (fuel drain tube from the fuel filter) onto the middle fitting of the fuel filter.

    We insert the pin into the holder on the clamp. Having installed the fuel pump fuse, turn on the ignition and check the tightness of the connections.

    Tools and materials

    Before removing and replacing the filter, have the following ready:

    1. New TF. In order for the required device to efficiently filter the fuel entering the fuel system, preference must be given to original parts. In Volkswagen Polo sedan or hatchback, you can use Mann cleaning devices. The original article number is WK692. It is important that the filter is equipped with a pressure regulator.
    2. Flat head screwdriver. It will be required to loosen and remove the clamps securing the TF.
    3. Phillips head screwdriver.
    4. Clean rags.
    5. A cut bottle or other small container. It will be needed to collect remaining fuel from the cleaning device during dismantling.

    The automaker does not indicate the installation time for new front pads.

    To the inspection of components for the first maintenance, the following examination is added:

    • shock absorbers and front and rear suspension;
    • play in the front wheel hub bearings;
    • ball joints;
    • struts and anti-roll bar cushions;
    • steering gear covers and rod ends;
    • exhaust systems;
    • body and bottom;
    • dashboard, cigarette lighter, interior lighting.

    Be sure to check the condition of the parts fastening the interior doors and trunk to the body. Locks and hinges are lubricated. The original composition costs 576 rubles. The price of analogues differs slightly - 5-7% lower.

    Which filter to buy - original or high-quality analogue

    Volkswagen Polo spare parts are inexpensive. But often craftsmen install parts made by other manufacturers. It is better to use elements produced by large companies with a good reputation:

    Numbers, manufacturers of filter elements for VW Polo:

    • VAG (original element) – 6Q0201051J – 820 rub.;
    • PATRON – PF3177 – 1000 rub.;
    • Filtron – PP836/4 – 1200 RUR;
    • Goodwill – FG 113 – 1170 RUR;
    • Dextrim – DX2-0089W – 870 rub.

    Sequencing

    When everything you need is available, you can begin servicing. The first thing you will have to do, if you do not want to take a gasoline shower, is to relieve the pressure in the fuel line. To do this you will need:

    • Open the fuse box located on the instrument panel near the steering column.
    • Remove the fuse responsible for the operation of the pump and fuel supply relay from the socket. If the fuel filter is replaced on a Volkswagen Polo 2012 model year, then this fusible link is located in socket No. 36. However, other options are also possible. To avoid mistakes, check the electrical diagram corresponding to the machines of your year of manufacture and configuration.
    • Start the engine and let it idle, wait until it stalls.

    When the engine stops, turn off the ignition, get to the filter installed on the right side along the direction of the car, in a recess near the gas tank, and proceed in the following sequence:

    1. Using detergents, a brush and a rag, we clean the part, the hoses suitable for it and everything nearby from dirt. This is necessary to prevent dirt from getting inside the fuel system.
    2. Release the handbrake cable from the clamp. We take it to the side, so that it does not interfere, and secure it to the body with a rope or wire.
    3. Spray the screw that holds the filter element in place with penetrating lubricant.
    4. While the lubricant is doing its job, we mark (you can use electrical tape of different colors) the hoses so as not to confuse their location.
    5. By pressing the clamps with a flat screwdriver, we release the hose fittings and move them aside. You need to act carefully so as not to damage the plastic.
    6. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the screw holding the fastener and, holding the filter so that fuel does not flow out of it, carefully remove the old part from the socket.
    7. We drain the remaining gasoline into a previously prepared container. If desired, they can then be returned to the tank.
    8. We install the new filter element in place. Sometimes it is recommended to fill it with gasoline, but this is not necessary.
    9. Insert it into the mounting hole and tighten the self-tapping screw. It is better to replace rusted hardware with a whole one that is not damaged by corrosion.
    10. We connect the hoses, making sure that the fittings are securely fixed.
    11. We return it to its place and secure the handbrake cable with a clamp.
    12. We insert the removed fuse into the socket.
    13. We start the engine. It may not start immediately. It will take some time for gasoline to completely fill the system.
    14. When the engine starts, make sure that nothing is leaking anywhere.

    That's all, actually. We turn off the car, send the old part for recycling and get ourselves in order.

    Answers to frequently asked questions

    Is it worth going to a service station to replace the filter?

    If the car is not under warranty, then it is better to come to an authorized dealer for maintenance. Otherwise, if breakdowns occur, you will be denied service. You need to contact a car service if you want to further check the condition of the car. The technicians will connect diagnostic equipment and carry out the necessary tests of the engine and main systems.

    What happens if you don't replace the filter element on time?

    In addition to starting problems, loss of power and increased gas mileage, other problems may arise. Fuel system parts, such as pump injectors, will fail. Subsequent repairs will cost tens of thousands of rubles.

    How much does it cost to replace a filter at a service station?

    This depends on the location of the service. The average price in Russia is 400-500 rubles, excluding the cost of components. And if you order a comprehensive service, then even less.

    Selecting a new filter

    The fact is that the current Volkswagen Polo model is equipped with a fuel filter with a built-in pressure regulator. The original part has catalog number VAG 6Q0 201 051 J. It is, of course, more expensive than direct-flow substitutes. But if you want your car’s injection and fuel supply systems to function normally, you will have to purchase just such a filter element. As analogues, you can consider more affordable spare parts produced by third-party manufacturers:

    • MANN-FILTER WK 69/2.
    • Meyle 100 323 0003.
    • Lucas filters LFPF018.
    • JS Asakashi FS0061B.
    • Febi 30754.

    There are other options on sale that are suitable in terms of cost and quality.

    If the filter is at the bottom

    It is not convenient to replace the element in cars in which it is located at the bottom.

    To do this, you will need to use an overpass or drive the car to some hill - this will serve you for convenience.

    For example, we will take the Volkswagen Polo Sedan brand. The fuel cell on the bottom of the car is located near the gas tank on the right side.

    First, disconnect the three hoses. They are clearly visible and accessible. When we disconnect the hoses, the system will release pressure.

    Press the blue button with your finger or a screwdriver. Using a screwdriver, you can unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the filter.

    To install a new element, remove the plugs and insert it into the mount. There is an arrow on the filter; install it in the direction of the arrow towards the driver's seat.

    Install until it clicks. And so on for all three valves.

    We fix the bolt on the mount with a self-tapping screw. We check that no hoses are kinked during installation. We start the car and let it run for a few minutes. We check that there are no leaks and that all joints are dry.

    There is a tube next to the filter, try not to damage it, otherwise you will have to change the entire system.
