Chevrolet Niva fuel filter: where is it located and how to replace it

Attention! If the car is operated in dusty conditions or with low fuel quality, the filter must be replaced more often than specified in the regulations.

The fuel filter is installed at the bottom of the car, in front of the right rear wheel and is covered with a plastic casing.

We carry out the work on an inspection ditch or overpass.

The fuel in the power system (with the ignition on and for some time after it is turned off) is under pressure. Therefore, if we replace the filter immediately after a trip or after turning on the ignition, it is necessary to relieve the fuel pressure in the power system. If the ignition has not been turned on for a day or more, there is usually no fuel pressure in the system.

Having released the block retainer, disconnect the wiring block from the fuel module.

We start the engine and let it idle until it stops due to fuel exhaustion. Then turn on the starter for 2-3 seconds. After this, the pressure in the fuel system will be released.

Where is the fuel filter located?

Before proceeding directly to the change procedure, you need to find out where the fuel filter is located. If the car was released in 2009, you can find it directly under the hood. Considering the relatively most innovative modifications, its location will be under the bottom.

In order to get to the filter, the rear seats must be removed. The film attached to the sealant will be visible from below. It must be carefully removed and the device will be directly in front of your eyes.

Having understood where it is located, you need to find out how to change it correctly.

By squeezing the two clamps of the tip of the fuel supply tube, we move the filter, removing its fitting from the tip of the tube and remove the fuel filter from the clamp.

Since fuel remains in the filter, we drain it into a previously prepared container.

We install the new filter in the reverse order.

Job

The fuel filter itself is located at the bottom of the car, in front of the rear right wheel. This element is additionally covered with a plastic casing.

Before replacing the fuel filter on a Chevrolet Niva yourself, you need to drive the car onto an overpass or pit.

When the ignition is turned on and for a certain time after it is turned off, the fuel in the system still remains under pressure.

This means that if the replacement is carried out immediately after the end of the ride, it is necessary to relieve the pressure in the system.

To do this, you need to raise the rear seat cushion. This will provide access to the hatch cover. To remove it, you need to unscrew the 2 fixing screws.

Then disconnect the wire plug from the fuel module, first releasing the lock on it.

Next, to replace the fuel filter on a Chevrolet Niva, you need to start the engine and leave it on so that it produces gasoline (this lasts a few seconds). Then turn on the starter for 2 or 3 seconds.

This completes the pressure release procedure. But it’s better to leave the car for about a day and only then start working.

The next step is to remove the fuel filter housing. It is secured with a bolt and 2 nuts, which require a 10 mm socket to unscrew.

Then the tip is removed from the filter fitting, for which the 2 clamps of the fuel outlet pipe are compressed.

Using a 10mm socket, you need to loosen the filter clamp bolt.

Then move the filter, removing the fitting from the tip of the tube and first squeezing the 2 clamps. This will allow you to remove the element being replaced from the clamp.

The gasoline inside the filter must be drained into a replaceable container.

Installing a new fuel filter on a Chevrolet Niva is carried out in the reverse order. In this case, you need to pay attention to the arrow drawn on the body - it must be directed towards the front of the machine (along the direction of the fuel supply).

When putting on the tips of the fuel pipes, clicks of the clamps should be heard.

When everything is done, all that remains is to turn on the ignition and inspect all connections for leaks.

At this point, replacing the Chevrolet Niva fuel filter with your own hands is completed.

Fuel filter diagnostics

A number of signs indicate that it is time to replace the fuel filter. This may include:

  • Feeling of difficulty in the operation of the motor when moving upward;
  • An extraneous hum is clearly audible when the engine warms up;
  • Fuel consumption has increased;
  • The car engine starts with great difficulty or does not start at all;
  • The engine operates with continuous surges.

The first thing you need to do if these signs are present is to check the special filter. If the car does not have the mentioned symptoms, then the filter change cycle should be once every 30,000 km.

These actions will help to continue operation of the engine, as well as other significant structures of the machine.

It must be borne in mind that changing the filter component is also necessary when performing microcircuit tuning, after which the car will be brighter, and the amount of fuel consumed also changes. In this case, for the purpose of replacement, it is necessary to choose the highest quality, as well as expensive, spare part.

Replacement frequency

If the gasoline in the tank does not contain foreign impurities, the coarse filter can work for years. It should be checked and cleaned only if the pressure in the fuel line drops. It also makes sense to wash the mesh with carburetor cleaner at every maintenance. The fine filter of the Chevrolet Niva is designed for 30,000 kilometers. However, taking into account the quality of the fuel, it has to be changed after 15,000.

The need for replacement can be determined by the following signs: • Poor traction when driving uphill. • Intermittent operation of the engine, especially at speed and under load. • Increased fuel consumption. • Difficulty starting the engine.

Restyled Nivas are equipped with fine filters GM 21231117010. However, there are many analogues in stores: Bosch 0450905273, Hummel WK512 and others. The price of parts starts from 400 rubles.

Chevrolet Niva › Logbook › Replacing the fuel pump filter and fine filter

Mileage 63 t.km. I decided to change the fuel filters. I change it myself for the first time. I bought an original fine filter, but did not take the mesh because... I read that they are different, you have to go to the store with your own. I did everything according to the instructions: I removed the hatch cover from the seat, turned off the power from the pump, started it and waited until the car stalled. I went to throw off the hoses and didn’t expect a catch, but it turns out there was still pressure left, I filled everything around the cap with gasoline and ran for a rag, I forgot to prepare it in advance. Now I know.

The main signs of a faulty fuel filter

More known reasons:

  1. When the engine warms up, extraneous hums are heard. They may occur from time to time.
  2. When moving uphill, engine activity is difficult.
  3. The energy-power apparatus functions intermittently.
  4. Increased fuel consumption.
  5. The engine won't start at all.
