You mean that the fuel in the power system (with the ignition on, as well as for some time after) is under pressure. Therefore, before replacing the fuel filter, the pressure must be relieved. If the car’s ignition has not been turned on for more than 3 hours, then there is usually no pressure in the fuel system. You can check the pressure by unscrewing the cap of the fuel rail fitting and pressing the spool rod. (see here)
You also need to keep in mind that the filter is located below the level of the fuel tank and when it is removed, fuel can flow out of the tank through a tube disconnected from the filter. Therefore, you need to have a container to collect fuel.
To relieve pressure in the system, remove the lining of the left front sidewall (see here).
We disconnect the connectors connecting the wiring harness of the engine management system and the rear wiring harness.
We start the engine and let it idle until the fuel runs out. Then turn on the starter for 2-3 seconds. After this, the pressure in the power system will be released.
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
To remove the filter under the bottom (Euro-3)
To remove the filter under the hood (Euro-2)
Remove the spare wheel support bracket.
Holding the filter with a 19mm wrench, use a 17mm wrench to unscrew the fuel pipe fitting, gradually bleeding the gasoline into the substituted container.
We remove the fuel pipe from the filter. Similarly, disconnect the fitting of the second tube.
Each tube has a rubber O-ring, which we replace with a new one if damaged.
Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the clamp bolt.
. and remove the fuel filter.
Install the filter in reverse order.
The arrow on the new fuel filter should point toward the rear of the vehicle (in the direction of fuel flow).
Having installed the new filter, we connect the connection block between the engine management system wiring harness and the rear wiring harness.
We check the tightness of the connections with the engine running.

an ordinary tire monomer will not work. You need one with a cone. From the pictures you will understand what is where. In the first picture there is a number 2. I don’t know what is written in your manual, but in my service book it says 40 thousand. I change it every 10k, but this is purely my opinion, otherwise there will be supporters here that you shouldn’t change it so often, and the screen on the fuel pump every 20k. I don’t do all this on my first car. I don’t force you to do this, do it as you please, or according to the manual. and the pressure is checked when all the filters are changed, and the car still doesn’t work and takes a long time to start. Go to any auto store and ask. You need a pressure gauge to measure the pressure in the fuel line.
Done according to regulations or in case of failure. In terms of time, it takes from 30 minutes (if suspended) and up to 4 hours if changed by removing the tank.
The cost of replacing a VAZ 2131 fuel filter depends on its installation and the complexity of the work. The easiest way is to change an element installed in the engine compartment or an outboard element embedded in the highway.
When to change the fuel filter on a Chevrolet Niva
The manufacturer recommends replacing the fuel filter on the Chevrolet Niva every 30 thousand km. According to the experience of many drivers, this should be done 2 times more often - every 15 thousand km. The fuel pump filter at each service station can simply be washed with carburetor cleaner.
You can tell when it’s time to replace the filter by the following signs:
- Engine thrust decreases when climbing a mountain.
- Fuel consumption increases significantly.
- The engine begins to operate unstably (intermittently) at high speeds.
- The engine does not start on the first try.
The same symptoms may occur if other elements of the fuel system fail. It's also worth checking the spark plugs.
The most common indicator of fuel filter contamination is a decrease in traction. When you drive a Chevy Niva uphill, the engine does not seem to produce the usual power. In this case, check the fuel filter immediately.

If it is installed in the gas tank, then there are two replacement options. If there is a service hatch under the rear seat, that's good. If there is no hatch, then you can either cut it out or replace it by removing/installing the fuel tank.
The main signs of a TF malfunction:
– fuel consumption has increased sharply; – the car began to stall at idle; – the engine is running rough, the ignition system is in the room; – car jerking when going uphill.
If necessary, we can also change the fuel pump and measure the pressure in the rail.

Niva fuel filter
The filter is an important component of the fuel system of a vehicle - the life and service life of the power unit and adjacent vehicle systems directly depends on the quality of purification of the incoming fuel.
That is why it is necessary to change the fuel filter in a timely manner, adhering to the conditions of scheduled maintenance and the car manufacturer’s regulations.
As is correct, when replacing an old filter, drivers choose foreign-made options - the original filter on the Niva has a short lifespan and quickly becomes clogged.
The most popular fuel filter models for Niva are presented in the table below. All parts comply with the stated standards of the official manufacturer.
ManufacturerCountry of productionPart numberApproximate cost, rub.
Romania | ASAM | 30524 | 260 |
Romania | ASAM | 30543 | 275 |
Italy | STARLINE | SF PF7012 | 350 |
Italy | STARLINE | SF PF7043 | 370 |
France | PURFLUX | EP163 | 370 |
According to the automaker's regulations, the fuel filter on the Niva must be changed every 30,000 km. However, the need to replace the part may arise much earlier - if low-quality fuel is poured into the car or the car is driven on dusty or dirt roads, then the filter needs to be changed every 15,000 km.
Remember, the service life of the engine depends on the timely replacement of this element; a clogged filter significantly speeds up the production of engine components.
Note! It is strictly not recommended to install a fine filter on a car, especially when refueling the vehicle with low-octane fuel. The fine filter does not provide adequate filtration quality, as a result of which small abrasive elements and chips can get into the internal combustion chambers of the engine, which will reduce the service life of the engine. This type of tuning is not compatible with the domestic auto industry!
Where is the fuel filter on Niva
The location of the fuel filter on a car depends on the environmental characteristics of its engine:
- If the car operates according to Euro-2 requirements, then you need to look for the element under the left front mudguard, in the area of the engine compartment;
- If the car operates according to Euro-3 requirements, then the part will be located under the bottom of the body inside a special recess. The reference point for your search will be the additional exhaust system muffler.
Regardless of location, the procedure for replacing the fuel filter is carried out according to an identical algorithm of actions.
How to replace a fuel filter with your own hands: step-by-step instructions
The algorithm for replacing the fuel filter on a Niva is carried out according to an intuitive scenario - all consumable components in the domestic automotive industry can be easily replaced with your own hands without outside help. To service the fuel system, you will need a set of wrenches, a rag for wiping, and a canister for draining remaining fuel. To replace the fuel filter you must:
- First of all, turn off the power supply to the vehicle - to do this, you need to remove the negative terminal from the battery;
- Then you need to remove the bracket that secures the spare tire support to the car;
- Next, use wrenches to unscrew the fuel pipe fitting. Please note that when dismantling the pipe, the gasoline that is in the fuel line will begin to drain - you need to put a bottle or canister for draining;
- After dismantling the first pipe from the filter, we also remove the second element. It must be remembered that at the ends of each pipe there is a rubber sealing ring, which must be replaced after replacing the filter - otherwise gasoline will leak;
- Now, using a “10” key, unscrew the fixing clamp that holds the filter itself, after which the part can be replaced with a new one.
- The procedure for installing a new filter and assembling the system is carried out according to these instructions in strictly reverse order. When installing the filter, you need to check the polarity of the part - the element must be installed with the arrow pointing towards the rear of the car. Otherwise, the filter will not work correctly and the maintenance procedure will have to be repeated.
It must be remembered that replacing the fuel filter should only be done when the engine is not warmed up.
After replacing the fuel filter, it is imperative to check the tightness of the system when starting the power unit - with the engine running, there should be no air leaks through the main pipes or the contact points of the filter with the hoses.

The fuel filter on a VAZ 2121 and Niva 2131 with an injection engine is removed to replace it with a new one if it becomes clogged. The main sign indicating a filter malfunction is the appearance of interruptions in engine operation in different operating modes. Prepare a standard set of tools, and then perform the following sequence of actions:
- De-energize the vehicle by disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery. Next, remove the spare tire, and then remove the bracket for its support to provide free access to the filter.
- Next, prepare an empty container into which fuel will be drained when the fuel pipes are disconnected.
- Then, using a nineteen key, we hold the filter from turning, and with a seventeen key, we slowly loosen the nut securing the connection of the supply tube and gradually unscrewing it, bleeding off the fuel and, accordingly, the pressure.
- Similarly, unscrew the second tube and move them to the side. Copper O-rings are installed at the junction of the tubes.

Come on. The washers must be burned until red before installation, and the copper will become softer and “squeeze” perfectly, then over time it will become hard (this is the properties of copper).
Threat So, all the HP fuel equipment on diesel engines is assembled on washers, and if you do everything right, the diesel engines are dry, contrary to popular belief.

There was a BIG filter on my field from the factory. After driving 10,000 km, I decided to replace it, I bought an SCT filter, it came with two copper gaskets, I did not install them, since the rubber rings installed at the factory were intact. I changed the filter, ran the engine for 15 minutes to check for leaks, everything was dry, but after three days I smelled gasoline. I looked under the car, and there was a puddle - it was leaking from the nut connecting the pipe to the filter. From my own bitter experience of changing the oil filter, I realized that SCT filters suck and immediately went to the store. I bought a BIG fuel filter there; the gaskets did not come with it, but the seller immediately offered to buy rubber rings for 10 rubles apiece, so I immediately bought a dozen in reserve.
While removing the old filter, I discovered that the rubber ring was torn, as if the edge had been bitten off. it bit at the junction with the filter, apparently it’s not for nothing that SCT put copper gaskets in their filters - their filters are not sharpened for rubber bands.

The VAZ 21214 engine can be used to install the VAZ Niva car Stk #: 2121, 21213, 21214, 2131; "Nadezhda" 2120 and their modifications.
Model 21213 became the basis for the new unit. Many of the 21214 engine components differ slightly from those of the base model. The introduction of most design configurations involves the transition to an injection system, the introduction of parts that comply with Euro 2 (3) environmental standards, and the introduction of hydraulic supports for the valve levers. Installing power steering on a car required additional modifications to engine parts.
In its own design, the engine underwent several modifications. The first models were equipped with centralized injection. Model 21214-20 already had parallel fuel injection, a Bosch MP7.0 controller and was Euro 2 compliant. The move to Euro 3 and the introduction of hydraulic support for the INA office valve levers required modifications to the engine. Now the engines are in mass production of the following modifications.
