How to change the lubricant?
Draining the crankcase and filling it with new oil does not require any special skills or special expensive tools. It is advisable to have an inspection ditch, although in extreme cases you can do without it, but doing the work will be inconvenient.
List of required tools:
- key for unscrewing the drain plug measuring 17 mm;
- a container for mining is more convenient when it is wide and equipped with low sides;

The procedure is carried out only when the engine is warm, otherwise the waste will not flow out of the crankcase completely. If the engine is cold, you need to warm it up to at least 60-70°C or start working immediately upon arrival at the garage. - Clean the hex plug from any dirt. Place a container under the car crankcase and use a key to loosen the plug so that it rotates by hand.
- Tighten the oil plug all the way by hand and sharply push it to the side. It is not advisable to drop the plug into the drain, as you will have to take it out later. Adjust the position of the container relative to the stream.
- Open the hood and unscrew the filler cap. Wait until most of the old oil drains.
- Using a puller, loosen the oil filter. Place a rag underneath, tighten it by hand and quickly turn it upside down so that grease does not leak from it. In this position, pack and prepare for disposal.
If there is no device for loosening the filter, then you can pierce it through with a flat-head screwdriver or a steel rod and unscrew it, holding the ends. After emptying, go down into the hole and screw the plug back, holding it with a key with a little force. Then lubricate the rubber ring of the new filter with fresh grease and screw it into place, tightening it by hand and making a half turn back.
A few words about how much oil to pour when filling. Using the scale on the canister as a guide, pour 3 liters through the funnel and check the level with a dipstick after 5-10 minutes. After this, add oil so that the level is between the marks on the dipstick indicating maximum and minimum.

- Remove the old filter and clean the seat under it. It is also advisable to replace the o-ring - it is also considered disposable, like the filter itself.
- Before screwing in the new filter, it should be slightly lubricated with fresh oil. It also wouldn't hurt to lubricate the O-ring.
- Place the new oil filter on the fitting and tighten it by hand until the gasket (ring) is in contact with the cylinder block. It is not recommended to twist anything, as this may damage the threads. If you succeed, you can tighten it another 3/4 turn.
- After the filter is screwed in, you can fill in new oil. To do this, unscrew the plug on the neck of the filler hole. Then gradually pour in oil up to the maximum mark on the dipstick.
- Place the plug back into the filler hole, then start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- Check the oil level again with the dipstick. If the lubricant is below the maximum mark on the dipstick, you will have to add a little oil
When to change?
According to factory instructions, the lubricant in the power unit of a VAZ 2115 car should be replaced every 10-15 thousand kilometers or once a year.
