The problem is mainly mechanical - the trapezoid breaks. When repairing wipers, many replace standard products with frameless ones. They have an attractive appearance, adhere better to the glass, and do not have hinged joints, so they are not affected by dirt and icing.

- The wipers freeze. The problem in this case lies precisely in the drive gearbox. It has a limit switch and is actuated by a cam. And the job of the cam, in turn, is precisely to control where the brushes will be after the power stops being supplied to the switch lever. A malfunction in this option in most cases occurs when the driver turns on the wipers that are frozen to the glass. As a result, the gearbox breaks down and needs to be replaced.
Requirements for windshield wipers.
The windshield wiper circuit has several types of design. With any design, windshield wipers must ensure cleaning of the windshield regardless of the amount of precipitation. What is the advantage of a relay with an adjustable pause
As a rule, all modern cars have at least 2 operating modes for windshield wipers: intermittent (that is, with a pause between sweeps of the blades) and constant. Have you ever encountered a situation where, during light drizzling rain, when the windshield wipers operate in “pause” mode, this pause is too short and the wipers “scrape” on the windshield that has not yet gotten wet? I think most drivers have found themselves in similar situations. If your car does not have the ability to adjust the pause in the operation of the brushes, there are only two ways to solve the above problem. The first is to turn the wipers on and off as needed, but this distracts the driver from driving and creates additional risks for safe driving, especially if the trip is long. The second way is to leave everything as is, that is, to accept the movement of the brushes on dry glass, but this, firstly, leads to increased wear of the wiper cleaning tape, and secondly, it can irritate the driver.
Methods for connecting windshield wipers.
The connection diagram for windshield wipers can be divided into two types, depending on the method of connecting the operating mode switch.
In the first connection method, a constant plus is supplied to the wiper drive electric motor, and the mode switch connects the motor elements to the minus. This method is widely used in foreign and domestic cars.
The second method is completely opposite to the first, that is, power is supplied to the electric motor through the mode switch, and the minus in this case is taken from the drive housing.
I propose to consider the principle of operation of a car windshield wiper circuit using an example, where plus is supplied to the electric motor through a mode switch, since this is the more common connection method.
The diagram shows the connection of a windshield wiper drive with an electric motor powered by permanent magnets and having two operating speeds. The difference in speed in this circuit is ensured by the displacement of one of the positive brushes relative to the physical center of the electric motor armature.
Replacement
If the old motor has failed, there is no point in trying to repair it somehow. To buy a new part, you will have to spend very little money. And the replacement procedure on most cars is extremely simple.
I will describe the main stages of work associated with replacing this element of the windshield cleaning system of any car.
- Turning off the vehicle's power. A safety measure without which further work makes no sense. Be sure to remove the negative terminal from the car. It's simple but important. Otherwise, you not only risk burning the wiring, but also getting an unpleasant electric shock yourself.
- Search for a motor. It all starts with identifying where your windshield wiper motor is located. It depends on your car. On some cars, just lift the hood and you will immediately see the washer reservoir. The motor itself is located on the reservoir (partially inside) of the windshield wiper, into which the liquid is poured. Do you see the tank? If yes, then you are in luck. If not, then you will have to look for it by removing elements of the engine compartment. On some car models, the tank is hidden so that the fender protection has to be removed.
- Disconnect the connectors with wires from the motor. Then remove the tank itself.
- The hose and fitting are separated from each other. Don't forget to drain the liquid. Filling a new one will not be difficult. Yes, and for prevention it won’t hurt to do it.
- Using a screwdriver, push the intake seal out of the bushing. This will allow you to completely remove the windshield washer motor.
- Don't forget to install a new bushing when reassembling. This often leads to the washer pump itself breaking down. So the old bushing goes to the landfill.
- Reassemble the assembly in reverse order. Here many craftsmen relax, because they consider the work done. In fact, reassembly causes more problems than disassembly. Advice from someone who made similar mistakes. That is, from me. Do not try to remember the location of parts unless you are confident in your memory capabilities. We got distracted by something, forgot, got confused. This happens to everyone, and there is nothing wrong with it. To ensure proper reassembly sequence, you can record, mark, or label the parts in the order in which they are removed. This will make it easier to put everything back together the way it was before.

Zero position.
The circuit consists of a fuse F, a three-position switch SA, a permanent magnet motor M and a limit switch SQ. The zero position of the SA switch corresponds to the off state of the vehicle's windshield wiper. If the switch is moved to this position after working, then the electric motor will stop only after the limit switch SQ is opened, which occurs when the wiper blades are in the extreme position.
Closing the electric motor brush with the SQ switch to ground leads to dynamic braking and a sharp stop of the electric motor, which prevents the moment of shutdown and re-supply of power to the electric motor brushes through SQ, which will lead to non-stop operation of the electric motor.
First position.
When switch SA is moved to the first position, power from fuse F through the switch contacts will flow to the motor brush and the drive will operate at low speed.
Second position.
If you turn on the second position, then the additional brush of the electric motor, displaced relative to the negative brush, will receive power, which will lead to a change in the magnetic flux of the armature and an increase in the rotation speed.

Connecting wipers and washer
“Plus” power is supplied from the ignition switch through fuse No. 2 at 10 Amp of the mounting block. The permanent “plus” goes along the black and yellow wires to contacts “4” of the connectors of the gear motor and the steering column switch. It should not disappear even when the switch is in the “off” position. The blue wire supplies “+” 12 V power to the motor when the switch is in “continuous mode” position. On the blue-white wire, in the “off” position there should be a “minus”, and in the “continuous mode on” position the “minus” is turned off. This is done to slow down the motor when the power to the closer is turned off.
The red wire supplies the relay with “+” 12 V from the switch when the intermittent mode is turned on. At the moment of operation, contacts “2” and “4” close, and “1” and “3” open, the motor starts working and the brushes make one or two movements. Then “+” 12 V is turned off, and contacts “1” and “3” are closed to each other and to “minus”. The motor stops for a few seconds and then the cycle repeats.

The standard wipers on the VAZ 2107 operate in intermittent and continuous modes. If they do not work at all, then first we do the simplest thing: before starting repairs, we check the fuse and the degree of oxidation of its contacts in the mounting block (location F2 for 10 A). If the wipers do not work in rare rain mode, then most likely the relay in the mounting block or the steering column switch itself is to blame. If there is no current, then there is an open circuit in the steering wheel, and the switch is to blame.

You can check whether the motor is working properly by disconnecting the rods from it and connecting it directly to the power source. If the rotor does not spin, the gear motor is faulty and should be replaced.
This must be done in the following order:
- disconnect the electric motor from the fuse box;
- put a mark on the rod (crank) in order to fix its position;
- remove the fasteners securing the rod;
- remove the bolts securing the trapezoid;
- remove the gear motor.
Installing a new motor is done in exactly the same order, but in reverse order.
Another common reason why the wipers on the VAZ 2114 stop working is the breakage of the trapezoid. You can determine it visually, and, in case of breakdown, replace the entire unit.
It is not recommended to independently restore a worn or bent trapezoid - it is better to replace it with a new, similar one. This will help maintain the correct balance of the wipers and their correct clamping force.
Sometimes it happens that one VAZ 2114 wiper does not work (or works incorrectly), while the other functions properly. The reason for this may be souring of the bushings at the joints of the trapezoid rods. Fixing such a malfunction is simple - just lubricate all the hinges of the moving mechanism.
