- Make sure air flows only in the direction away from the hose. Otherwise, replace the injector.
- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Finally, adjust the nozzles (see Section Adjusting glass washers).
Fan nozzles
To perform cleaning, it is important that the wipers do not drag dust across dry glass.
Fan nozzles provide a more convenient solution for spraying liquid. In such a system, glass washer is sprayed like rain over the entire working surface. The advantages of this method include the following parameters:
- Uniform coverage of the entire glass area with the cleaning solution;
- The wipers begin to move over the already wetted surface;
- Economical consumption of glass washer due to dispersion;
- Reduction of micro-scratches due to the absence of dry friction.
This technology also has its weaknesses. The fan nozzle design is more sensitive to low temperatures and an additional heating system is installed to prevent freezing.
What types of malfunctions are there?
In fact, there are not so many problems, and they are divided into electrical and mechanical. Most often, problems arise in the mechanical part. Mechanical problems are simple, the first problem is lack of fluid. That is, it either simply ran out in the tank, or froze due to the low temperature. In the first case, you just need to top it up, and in the second, warm up the engine well, and its heat will defrost the liquid.
The hose could also have come off; it needs to be installed back, and the problem is solved. And the most common problem is clogged injectors. They can become clogged due to the use of low-quality fluid or due to the ingress of dust and weight.
Poor flow can also be due to problems with the pump or seals, so you should find out what the problem is.
Nuances of adjustment
Windshield washer nozzles replacement, cleaning, selection
If, during the cleaning process or after long-term use, the washer fluid fan begins to function incorrectly and does not reach the necessary areas of the windshield, you will have to adjust the fan nozzles.
There is considerable debate regarding these sprayers. Some are sure that there are no methods for adjusting the operation of fan washer nozzles. Others suggest using available tools for configuration.
When installing cleaned or new windshield washer nozzles in your car, you should think in advance about how to set them up to work properly. Otherwise, the water will get too high or low and be directed to the side, which will not allow you to effectively clean the glass and will disrupt the normal operation of the wipers themselves.
In fact, the fan type of nozzles is unregulated. Although there is an opposite opinion, according to which they are configured in exactly the same way as conventional inkjet ones. To adjust, it is supposedly enough to take a regular needle or pin, insert it into the nozzle body and start rotating in different directions, achieving the required direction of the sprayed liquid from the windshield washer reservoir.
But in reality this method will not work. It is relevant only for those cars that use standard or rather classic jet sprayers. Here you can definitely insert a sharp pin or needle into the hole, twist it in different directions, thereby changing the direction of the supply jet. Moreover, each nozzle is adjusted separately so that they all do not hit water at one point on the windshield of your vehicle.
Nobody forbids you to take a risk and try to insert a needle into the nozzle of a fan nozzle. You can even twist something there and try to adjust it. Don't be surprised if you don't see any results. Such nozzles are not adjustable, since their design does not have moving elements. Hence the uselessness of picking with needles and pins.
A stream or fan of water will be supplied correctly and evenly if all requirements for consistent and accurate installation of the sprayer are met. Then you won’t have to configure anything, since the need for this procedure will disappear by itself.
But it cannot be said that fan nozzles always spray liquid in the right direction, and the probability of incorrect water flow is zero. Situations like this do happen. This is due to various factors, including the incorrect position of the sprayer relative to the windshield of the car. This error was made during installation.
To change the direction of water flow, you will need to use the most ordinary electrical tape. Some people advise filing a plastic structure, but this is not recommended due to the possible risks of breaking the fan sprayer. It is better to take electrical tape and wrap it in several layers in the front or back of the nozzle. This will allow you to raise or lower the liquid spray level accordingly.
An alternative to electrical tape can be a seal that can stay on the nozzle for a long time and not lose its properties over a long period of operation. A seal or tape is placed under the back or front of the nozzle. This completes the adjustment. It is not recommended to carry out any additional procedures using needles, pins or other sharp objects.
Fan nozzles are truly effective and useful types of windshield washer fluid sprayers for cars. Despite the presence of some disadvantages, the advantages still outweigh the possible disadvantages. This explains the increased demand for fan sprayers among those motorists whose cars were originally equipped with classic jet sprayers.
The motorist can adjust and clean the injectors with his own hands. All types of nozzles are cleaned and adjusted, but with certain differences. If inkjet ones are adjusted with a needle, then for fan ones there is no adjustment as such. But certain manipulations to change the direction of the sprayed liquid can be carried out without turning to a car service center for help and without buying new nozzles.
Removing the nozzle
Windshield washer pump does not work
On any machine, before dismantling the injectors, you should first disconnect the hoses through which fluid is supplied to them. To prevent the tube from getting lost in the engine compartment, you either cling it to something with an ordinary clothespin, or insert a screwdriver into it - this way the end will not slip away anywhere and will not fall inside the engine compartment. Just use a cross so as not to tear the plastic edge of the hose with the sharp end. The part is removed with the hood open.
- If the injectors have plastic protection plugs, they must be removed. Here you need to be careful: for example, on Toyota they are held on by rather fragile rivets that are easy to break. The Skoda Octavia has a design feature: to remove the injectors you will have to remove the wipers;
- On the body of each nozzle there are clamps similar to spring petals (2 pieces on each). They are pressed out with a flat screwdriver and the nozzle is pulled out. The process looks somewhat different on the Chevrolet Lacetti
: there the clamps are not pressed out, but are grabbed with pliers and pulled towards themselves; - If the injectors have been removed for cleaning, they are blown out with compressed air, or cleaned with a thin wire and rinsed in clean water - an accidental grain of sand is usually removed without difficulty. But if the problem is salt deposits, the nozzle will most likely have to be replaced.

Cleaning jets on a car
Mitsubishi Galant Project RalliArt Logbook Installed a windshield washer check valve from TOYOTA
To clean the windshield washer without removing the part from the car, try using a thin needle or pin. Carefully insert the end of the needle into the hole and push it all the way, then pull it out and check the operation of the sprayer. If the dirt plug was close to the outlet, a stream of water will throw it out.
When cleaning with a sharp, thin tool, observe the following safety rules:
- If you use thick pins and awls, you risk damaging the calibrated hole. The nozzle will spray with an uneven stream that does not reach the top of the glass.
- Do not push the tool too deep. The needle may get stuck tightly or break.
- When cleaning, do not move the tool to the sides. The position of the plastic sprayer may be disturbed and the jet will begin to hit past the glass or through the roof of the car.
If superficial cleaning does not work, try rinsing the nozzle with a 20 ml syringe equipped with a thin needle. The algorithm is like this:
- Prepare a soap solution that is enough for 2-3 refills of the syringe.
- Disconnect the fluid supply tube from the sprayer.
- Insert the needle into the spray nozzle and with a sharp movement of the piston, squeeze out the cleaning solution. Repeat the operation 2–3 times.
There are two other ways to clean injectors with disconnected tubes:
- insert a thin steel wire with a diameter of 0.2–0.3 mm into the nozzle, pulling it through using pliers;
- blow out the holes with a compressor.
The first option is not suitable for sprayers with two nozzles - the wire will probably not pass out and will get stuck. Blowing with compressed air gives excellent results when the compressor is capable of providing a pressure of 6–8 bar. Point the gun at the nozzle - if it is inserted into the fitting, the nozzle may fly out and get lost.
Advantages and disadvantages
There is nothing wrong with driving a car with classic jet injectors. They also have certain advantages and have a number of advantages.
You can think about a replacement if the advantages of fan systems outweigh the possible disadvantages.
Fan nozzles have several key advantages:
- uniform distribution of washer fluid. When water is supplied, it falls on the surface of the windshield in a dense layer of small drops. Distribution occurs over the entire surface covered by the windshield wipers, and sometimes even beyond it. This already depends on the settings. Separate jets pour the bulk of the liquid onto one zone, skipping other areas. This makes the wipers do a worse job of removing dirt;
- The efficiency of the windshield wiper blades increases. This follows from the first advantage, since the wipers move along the wetted surface along their entire working area. The jet leaves behind dry and dirty areas. Because of this, wipers have to walk part of the way through dry dust and dirt;
- Fans do a better job of removing dried insects and stuck-on solid dirt. Some people find that the jet removes hard dirt better. In fact, small drops fall on the entire surface of the dirt, soften it faster and help the wipers complete cleaning;
- the number of scratches produced is reduced. When the wiper passes over a dry surface that the jet of a classic nozzle has failed to moisten, the brush scratches the glass. If there is a layer of dust or dirt, the abrasive properties increase significantly. As a result, the windshield becomes covered with small scratches, and its attractive appearance is gradually lost;
- Windshield washer fluid consumption decreases. This does not happen on all cars, but on most vehicles. Although washer fluid is not the most expensive consumable, even such savings are important.
Some will say that you have to pay for such benefits. But no, the price is quite reasonable. Fan-type injectors do not cost much more than jet nozzles, so you won’t have to spend a fortune on them. Cost cannot be considered a disadvantage.
But fans do have disadvantages. There are two main negative points here.
- Freezing. Due to the peculiarities of its design, the fan nozzle is less protected from negative temperatures. Therefore, they are capable of freezing more often than their inkjet counterparts. To solve this problem, special nozzles equipped with a heating system have been developed. If you live in a region with very cold winters, it makes sense to install heating. In such conditions, even jet models can freeze, so it’s not worth calling this drawback purely the prerogative of fan sprayers.
- Covering a large area of the windshield with water. Advantage sometimes acts as a disadvantage. Since the entire glass is covered with small drops, until the windshield wiper passes over it, the driver’s visibility of the road is impaired. Under difficult conditions, even a second loss of control over the situation can cause the driver to act incorrectly. But this minus is conditional. With the correct setting of the wipers, the driver quickly gets a good view after applying a spray of liquid from the windshield washer reservoir.
Despite the conventionality of the disadvantages, they should also be taken into account when choosing the optimal injector option for your vehicle.
If you are completely satisfied with the fan devices, this will be a great addition to the windshield wipers on your car. But you will also have to learn how to clean and adjust the fans yourself. There is nothing complicated about this, because every car owner must cope with the task.
Using ready-made chemicals or citric acid
In auto chemical stores you can find various specialized products, the main purpose of which is to eliminate such dense calcium formations and clean the windshield washer system. Despite their effectiveness, such products are still not widely used on the market, which is explained by their high cost. Therefore, you should not be surprised by the fact that many car owners use improvised means the old fashioned way, especially since they are completely safe and effective.
One of these time-tested folk recipes for cleaning the washer reservoir and the entire system is citric acid. The cost of lemon juice is minimal, and provided that the maximum permissible dosages are observed, plaque can be completely eliminated, returning the original elasticity to the pipes. The use of such a chemical allows you to remove contaminants from the spray nozzles, which again efficiently wash the windshield, ensuring its complete cleaning.
Citric acid effectively breaks down various solid deposits; it is an inexpensive and completely safe product to use. All you need to do is add a small amount of lemon juice to the water in the expansion tank, then lightly spray the glass with water so that the cleaning solution reaches all tubes and spray nozzles. It will be necessary to let this liquid work for several days, which will be enough to completely remove the existing plaque.
The undoubted advantage of using such citric acid is its minimal aggressiveness, which eliminates the possibility of damage to the paintwork at an increased concentration of the solution. However, remember that you should not use pure lemon for such cleaning, so it must be diluted with water, at least in a one-to-one consistency.
Replacing windshield washer nozzles
Good visibility while driving is the main condition for safety. In bad weather, when the glass is flooded with rain and mud, or in the summer, when knocked down insects form all over the place, visibility is ensured by the windshield cleaning system. In this case, the washer and in particular the nozzles play an important role. The quality of glass cleaning depends on how efficiently they work. Like any other part, injectors fail over time and must either be cleaned or replaced with new ones. The question immediately arises: which injectors to buy, those that were previously installed or new, more efficient ones?
Which washer nozzles to choose?
Previously, jet-type injectors were installed on cars. They sprayed liquid onto the glass in a stream directed at one point. Modern car models use fan-shaped windshield washer nozzles. Their main design difference from inkjet devices is the number of nozzles. Plus, the diameter of the holes is smaller compared to jet nozzles. Due to this, the liquid sprays out like a fan under high pressure. This immediately covers a significant area of the windshield.
Today, fan-type injectors from the Volvo and Toyota brands are considered the most popular and reliable. If you have an older model car with jet jets, it is recommended that you replace the windshield washer nozzles with fan-type devices. To do this you will have to make some minor modifications. However, this will be completely justified.
Replacing windshield washer nozzles yourself
To replace washer nozzles, you first need to remove the old jets. First, open the hood and disconnect the fluid supply hoses to the injectors. Then gently press the nozzle from the inside of the hood; it should come out easily. If this does not happen, pry the nozzle with a thin screwdriver from the outside and remove it.
Install new injectors in the reverse order. Before doing this, carefully look at the standard hole for the nozzle and the design of the nozzle itself. Height adjustment may be required. In such cases, it is recommended to place a sealant underneath the nozzle.
Cleaning washer nozzles
If the washer nozzles do not work well, which is noticeable by the quality of the jet, they may be clogged. In this case, you need to clean them. To do this you will need a compressor, a pin (needle or thin string), a large syringe, water and soap.
First, make sure that the cause of the problem is indeed clogged injectors. Check the presence of water in the tank. If there is water, remove the fluid supply hoses to the injectors and turn on the washer. A good stream of water from the tubes will indicate that the rest of the system is in good condition. This means that the problem is really in the injectors.
- Cleaning with a compressor. First, disconnect the fluid supply hose and thoroughly rinse the nozzle with soapy water to remove dirt and debris. After this, insert the hose from the compressor into the nozzle and blow it out.
- Syringe flushing. We fill the syringe with water and rinse the jet nozzle in the opposite direction. The dirt should pour out along with the water.
- Cleaning with a pin. Using a needle, pin or thin string, clean the inlet and outlet of the nozzle as much as possible. After this, rinse the nozzle with water using a syringe.
If, after cleaning the holes, the functionality of the injectors is not restored, you will have to remove them and soak them overnight in a soapy solution. After this, it is necessary to repeat cleaning and rinsing as indicated above.
If your car has dismountable injectors, they can be disassembled and cleaned. To do this, remove the end sleeve and remove the ball with the spring. We clean and rinse everything well. Then we reassemble in reverse order.
- Before flushing the nozzle, it is imperative to first disconnect the fluid supply hose. Otherwise, debris will enter the system, which will lead to failure of other elements or to re-clogging of the jets.
- Use sharp metal objects (pins, needles or strings) carefully. Avoid damaging the calibrated holes, which could lead to injector failure. This is especially true when cleaning those jets that are designed with ball sprayers.
- If the injectors become clogged regularly, check for debris in the washer fluid reservoir. After cleaning the injectors, it is recommended to flush the entire system.
Washing with removal
In particularly advanced cases, nebulizers do not want to be cleaned using traditional methods - using needles, wires and syringes. There is only one option left - to remove the injectors from the car, wash them thoroughly, and if that fails, buy and install new parts.
On many modern cars, the sprayers are held in the holes by plastic clips. Dismantling is carried out in this order:
- Find a narrow flathead screwdriver in the garage.
- To remove the washer nozzle, use a screwdriver to pry the product at the bottom pad and pull it up.
- Pull the element out along with the pipe.
- Disconnect the handset. As a rule, it is pulled over the fitting without being secured with a clamp.
Reference. In some cars, the nozzles may be attached differently - you have to unlock the latches from below.
Immerse the removed element in a soap solution for a day or try treating it with a chemical detergent. Finally, blow out the nozzle with a pump or compressor and replace the nozzle in reverse order. Check where the jet hits and adjust the element if necessary. If the above manipulations do not lead to the desired result, simply replace the atomizer - the spare part is inexpensive.

Cleaning methods
Now about how to clean the windshield washer nozzles. There are many methods that were invented by folk craftsmen. They are effective and easy to implement.
I'll tell you several methods. And you decide for yourself which path to take.
- Application of a compressor. It is considered the most useful and fastest cleaning method. But you will definitely need the compressor itself. It’s not worth buying it just to clean the device. The compressor hose is connected to the nozzle nozzle and the air supply is turned on. Literally 30 seconds is enough to blow out all the dirt.
- An ordinary medical syringe. It is inferior in efficiency to a compressor, but consumables and tools cost pennies. Water with a small amount of citric acid is poured into the syringe. All hoses from the nozzle are disconnected. It is better to read in advance in the operating manual of your car how to remove the sprayer on it. A special feature of the method is that the syringe is inserted where the water comes out and does not enter. That is, on the back side of the nozzle. This will make washing more effective.
- A simple pin. Some people believe that you should not use pins and needles, since they can damage the glass washer spray. Well I do not know. I have used this technique many times and have had no problems. The main thing here is to be careful. Please note that pins only remove minor dirt. This is a kind of road method when you don’t have a compressor or at least a syringe with citric acid at hand. A pin or needle is inserted into the nozzle and the dirt is carefully picked out. Only those contaminants that have accumulated near the nozzle are cleaned. There's no point in going deeper.
- Detergent and cleaning agent. The method is effective, but will require quite a lot of time when compared with other methods. Remove the nozzle and place it in a container with water and cleaning agent. Sometimes it is enough to hold the sprayer there for a few minutes. But after that you still have to wash it. With a syringe or a compressor, decide for yourself.
As you can see, there are no particular problems with cleaning windshield washer nozzles. The procedure is simple, regardless of the method you choose.
Keep in mind that cleaning is not a panacea. In some cases, the injectors may wear out and permanently fail. Then the only way out will be to completely replace them. Well, at least they cost a little.
What in the washer can break?
If the windshield washers do not work, it means that a failure has occurred in one of the sections of the system described above. Let's look at what problems with the glass washer may be associated with.
Pump
The pump motor is the part of the washer system that wears out very quickly due to frequent operation.
Unfortunately, you can understand that something is wrong with this device only when water stops flowing to the nozzles. Otherwise, it does not show its malfunctions in any way.
Pump repair method:
Two common ailments can affect the motor:
If corrosion of this device is your case, do not worry. Experienced motorists can easily cope with it with a simple eraser.
But if this mechanism is erased or broken, it will have to be pulled out and replaced with a new one.
You can understand that the pump is the cause of the problem by the absence of a characteristic sound. If you press the washer lever and do not hear the usual buzzing sound, it means that the pump motor is not working.
Often windshield washer malfunctions are associated with the breakdown of this particular part. We'll tell you how to replace it a little later.
Blockage
Also, water may stop flowing to the nozzles due to blockage. The fact is that the tubes through which the liquid flows are very thin and the debris that accumulates in them can cause obstruction. To combat this defect, the system will have to be flushed and possibly purged.
Torn hoses
Another reason could be that the hoses have lost their integrity. If the tubes become leaky, water will not get from point A to point B, just like if it is clogged.
No current
And another common reason is lack of nutrition. Check that the pump and accumulator shafts are securely fastened. Perhaps the motor is simply not receiving energy.
There are also terminals on the motor that could have oxidized or fallen off. Check them out.
There is also a windshield washer fuse on the motor with a power of about ten amperes. If the pump motor fails, this fuse may need to be replaced.
If problems are discovered during the cold season, it is possible that the water in the tank has simply frozen. You can fix this with a hairdryer. And it’s better to immediately fill in the “anti-freeze”, because due to frequent expansion under pressure of water that has turned into ice, the plastic container may burst.
Replacing washer nozzles
First, you need to purchase new hoses that will supply fluid. A good option would be a tube that connects to the aquarium. Replacement does not require extensive experience or special education. The process is quite simple and is exactly the same in most current cars. To replace injectors, you must perform the following steps:
remove the upholstery, if any, then you need to very carefully remove the plastic pistons. To do this you will need special tools; removing buffer foam pads mounted on adhesive tape (to assemble them, you need to purchase previously unused adhesive tape) and detaching the lining on plastic parts; remove the tubes through which the water is directed; removing previously installed injectors; connection of the pipe to new injectors and installation without final fixation; the check valve is connected to the injector nozzles and pipelines; Finally, we check the operation of the system, adjust the direction of fluid supply and carry out final fixation.
Selection of fan nozzles
The first and easiest option is to select original injectors specifically for your car. Sometimes such injectors are supplied as an option or as an element of richer configurations. If the original fan injectors are not provided for your model or you want to save money, you should think about selecting alternative injectors that will immediately fit your car or with minor modifications.
The most common option that the Internet is full of is injectors from the Volvo S80
Volvo
model number . Suitable for a wide variety of cars. There are examples of installation on Toyota, Subaru, Daewoo, Mazda and a number of others.
By the way, there is much less information about this, but there is a very interesting and, most importantly, absolutely identical and inexpensive option - this is Ssang Yong 7845009010. In fact, this is an exact clone of VOLVO fan washer nozzles - accordingly, it will be suitable for the same cars.
Injectors from VW-Skoda, catalog number 3b0955985, fit well on Daewoo Lanos and Chevrolet Aveo. The cost is about 300 rubles per piece. For almost all models except Grandis, Pajero Sport, Pajero 4, Outlander XL
Injectors from the American

. Catalog numbers MR300201 and MR300202.
Features of work
There is nothing complicated about the operation of the injectors. This device is designed to supply water or a special washer fluid to the windshield of a car.
All nozzles are divided into two types.
- Jet. They release a stream of water and that’s it. Basic principle, nothing special. Mainly used on older cars;
- Fan. Their feature is the uniform distribution of water or liquid over the surface of the lobovka. Such devices extend the life of the wipers because they allow them to glide over a constantly moistened glass surface.
They are characterized by several situations that require mandatory driver intervention.
- Lack of liquid. Usually it simply runs out in the tank, and the driver simply does not notice this and does not add a new portion in time. Check regularly how much liquid is in the container and monitor the level;
- A hose that has come off. I think you won't need instructional videos or photos with instructions here. Just put the hose in place and that's it. The renovation is complete;
- Freezing of liquid. Usually occurs due to low temperature and the use of ordinary water instead of a special washer. Warm up the engine more. Due to the generated heat, the liquid will defrost;
- Clogging. The most common trouble that you can deal with yourself. Everything is done quickly and without any difficulties.
Causes of windshield washer malfunction
Before replacing the windshield washer with a new one, diagnose the old one. Find out exactly what the problem is.
Causes of windshield washer malfunction: - clogged nozzles; - hoses are in poor condition - cracked, torn, etc.; — the terminals came off; — electric pump malfunction; — the barrel itself is cracked and liquid is leaking.
If the car is parked in the cold for a long time, it happens that in severe frosts the electric windshield washer pump freezes. By the way, if your pads are frozen, I can help you with advice here. Try warming it up. You need to put the car in the garage, drain the liquid and fill it with hot water and let it sit for a while, then drain the water and fill it with hot water again. After this, add glass washing liquid and check the operation. If the windshield washer does not work, then the motor has broken down and the windshield washer will have to be replaced.
Replacement is very simple and quick. You can carry out the replacement yourself, with your own hands, without using any tools (except for wrenches).
If you need to replace a new barrel, you need to decide what size it will be. If you forget to keep an eye on the windshield washer barrel, then you need to buy a barrel of a larger displacement, you will have an additional volume of washer fluid and will have to fill it less often than usual.
There are barrels designed for one and two pumps; you choose based on the brand of the machine.
Briefly about the operation of washers
Every car enthusiast who has been using one car for a long time has encountered an unpleasant problem - sooner or later the nozzle stops supplying washer fluid or splashes past the glass. There are several reasons for the problem - from a simple lack of water in the tank to severe clogging of the supply tubes. To separate injector malfunctions from other problems, it is advisable to understand the structure of the washer system, which includes the following elements:
- plastic tank with a supply of clean water;
- electric pump;
- connecting tubes;
- 2 nozzles installed in front of the windshield or directly on the wipers.
There are 2 types of sprayers - with one and two holes in each.
When the driver presses the corresponding lever, the electric pump turns on and pumps water through thin tubes to the nozzles. The latter spray liquid onto the surface of the glass. If necessary, the direction of the jet can be adjusted by turning the plastic tips, inside of which the jets are located.
The main reasons for washer failure and repair methods
There are three main points that may prevent fluid from flowing to the windshield.
The washer may not function due to a simple lack of liquid in the tank
1 reason. Forgetfulness or negligence of the driver himself
The washer may not function due to a simple lack of liquid in the reservoir. This problem can be solved simply: buy glass liquid and pour it into the tank. In most cars it is located under the hood, where exactly it is better to check in the technical documentation for servicing the vehicle. Each car brand has its own design solutions.
“Anti-freeze” is resistant to low temperatures, but each has its own freezing threshold
In winter, the washer may not work due to freezing of the liquid in the reservoir. For the winter it is better to fill in “anti-freeze”. It is resistant to low temperatures. Fixing this problem is also easy. It is enough to drive the car into a warm room for several hours or warm up the engine to operating temperature. The heat from the motor will melt the water. It is best to pump it out of the tank and fill it with winter washer.
Reason 2. Mechanical damage in the glass cleaning system
The main factors may be:
- disconnection or rupture of the tube through which liquid flows to the sprayers;
- the hose on the way from the tank to the injectors is pinched by other body parts;
- the reservoir is leaking; there may be a crack in it and washer fluid leaks through it;
- clogged nozzles.
Replacing injectors can eliminate technical problems
Mechanical problems can be resolved by replacing the hoses, reservoir or injectors on the hood. You can try to clean the latter with a thin needle. This type of repair of the windshield cleaning system is within the power of every car enthusiast.
Reason 3. Electrical fault
Such problems can be called the most complex, but some can also be fixed with your own hands, without going to a car service station.
Electrical failures can be as follows:
- system fuse has blown;
- poor contact on the connector of the pump that pumps liquid;
- failure of the electric motor in the pump.
Checking for faults in electrical circuits should begin with the fuse. According to the car's owner's manual, you need to find where the fuse box is located. On the back of the block there is a diagram of their location. Using it we find the required fuse, check it and, if necessary, replace it.
If everything is fine with the fuse and the washer does not work, go ahead and check the voltage at the electric pump connector. We disconnect the chip and use a voltmeter to check the presence of 12 volts when the washer button is on. The absence of voltage indicates that you need to look for a break in the wiring from the power button to the connector.
If after checking the wiring and contacts the washer does not work, then most likely the problem is in the motor itself. It should be replaced. The fluid supply pump fails rarely, but if it happens on the road, it will be difficult to carry out such repairs. In this situation, it is better to contact the nearest auto repair shop.
Adjustment
Another important element of maintaining your car's windshield washer system is adjusting the nozzles. It is required if the jet coming out of the nozzle is directed in the wrong direction.
The process itself is simple and will take just a few minutes. And how to adjust? There is no need to remove or dismantle anything. Just do the following:
- take a regular needle or pin;
- insert it with a sharp edge into the nozzle (there are 2-3 nozzles in total);
- depending on where the jet is directed, start turning the needle in the required direction;
- if the jet goes above the glass, we turn it down, and if it sprays very low, we move up;
- left and right are adjusted in the same way.
Such manipulations are possible due to the fact that the sprayers themselves have the shape of a ball rotating inside a plastic housing. Therefore, a simple needle can act as an excellent adjustment tool.

As you can see, cleaning and adjusting the windshield sprayers on your car is very simple. You just need to monitor their condition and carry out preventive measures on time. But if the injectors completely stop working, then you will have to spend from 60 to 600 rubles, depending on the car, and replace the old devices with new ones.

The left driver's injector began to spray poorly. Now to the side, now up. I thought about changing it, but somehow the price is 750 rubles. I didn’t like the nozzle. I decided to try a long-proven method.
To complete the effect, after 2-3 full syringes, I lightly pressed the syringe plunger so that the lemon flowed into the nozzle, but did not flow out through the sprayer, and left it in this state for 20-30 minutes. After this period of time, I poured another 2-3 times and there was already a result. The injector worked like it did from the factory. Uniform spray fan. Next, rinse the nozzle 1-2 times with plain water. I did the procedure with both injectors. That’s all. However, in my case it wasn’t all right. When I installed it, there was a fan a couple of times, and then the same thing again. The determination to buy a new one was maximum. However, I remembered that there is an L-shaped check valve under the nozzle. I decided to wash it in the same way. After washing and reassembling, the injector came to life and is still working to this day. But I had to make fun of the injector some more. While I was removing and installing it, one of the injector mounting “whiskers” broke off. I used the Volver-XC90 method to solve this problem. I took an M8 thread and cut a thread onto which I screwed a nut.
This design now holds the injector better than the factory mustache. You just need to be careful when tightening and unscrewing the nut so as not to drop it into the hood.

Valeo C56 Compact 550 mm windshield wipers with fan washer nozzles for VAZ Priora Supplied from Volvo.
Awesome thing compared to ours! I've been traveling with fans for 5 years now. At speed on the highway it is inconvenient - it blows the spray down the windshield. The Land Cruiser has two-jet as stock, it hits the middle of the windshield even at 120 km/h. I want to try two-jet on a VAZ
Many people write about consumption, but this winter I spent less washer fluid with the fan ones than last winter with my family. I took the jets with the letter G, you can look in the bulletin board. The valve is from the previous owner, although there is an option that it was from the factory (the maximum configuration). True, one blows badly while driving, but I really liked it when I bought it, I’ll have to replace it in the spring.
In addition to all that has been said, I have a station wagon tank for two motors, I powered them together and each injector pumps its own motor.
This winter I installed one from a shnivy and one valve from Toyota, in front of the injectors, plus I soldered a resistor in the wiper relay to 50 kohm, the washer flows before the stroke, the brushes rub 2 times, the consumption is less than with the original ones
similar, only 3 years already)
They cost 600 rubles from a Volvo at one time, they pour beautifully with one press for 1 second. all the glass is filled. + there is a relay from VW, i.e. one press the glass is filled and 1 stroke of the brushes, and not 3 dry)
Can I have the relay number? I have 2 strokes and the second one is dry, when the brushes are new.
relay 99 article number 357955531 Soon I will make a post about the washer. My config: Washer reservoir drain + boiler from Mercedes w220 www.drive2.ru/l/466024980849624275/ Washer motors Golf www.drive2.ru/l/460725884559559225/ Check valve Toyota Fan injectors Volvo Windshield wiper motor VW Golf www.drive2.ru/ l/10119682/ Well, relay 99.
the original relay for disassembly costs 500-1000 rubles, and you get a super convenient relay, in addition to the washer, which is based on the turn-on time. The pause can also be adjusted very conveniently; the longer it is turned on, the longer the pause will be. or one revolution faster. in pause mode the brushes can clean quickly almost like in mode 1
I installed it from a VAZ 2101 on the hood, and there is no need to attach it to the frill like the tenth ones. But the effect is the same. I didn’t think about the consumption, the goal was to irrigate all the glass.
Many people also praise Chevy Niva
no one has ever put it! what you?!
Installed a long time ago - everything is fine, still alive. Washer consumption is much lower www.drive2.ru/l/7476703/
from 10k on a frill (there is a (welcom) in the BZ and the hood is always dry and clean))
Yes, the main thing is to install the valve
So the expense is still huge?
Without a valve, it will not be possible to irrigate in one second, so the flow rate will be higher. Plus with the valve it’s much more comfortable
Where should I install the valve?
Hyundai, Toyota... I got it from the same place on the market
Features of fan-type windshield washer nozzles
Since standard nozzles are not suitable for everyone, since they work worse and less efficiently in some places, a fan nozzle is a worthy alternative.
To understand the nuances of setting and cleaning, you first need to understand how this nozzle works and how the best performance is achieved when cleaning the windshield of a vehicle.
Most automakers initially equip their cars with fan injectors in basic and simplest configurations. Structurally, they differ from standard elements, where 2-3 separate jets are used. In the case of a fan nozzle, it provides spraying in the form of a large front consisting of small drops of liquid. This allows you to cover an impressive area of the windshield at once.
Classic two-jet jets are inferior to their fan counterparts in quality and coverage area of windshield washer fluid.
The main distinguishing feature is the method of liquid supply. Conventional jet systems deliver 2-3 separate jets. For these purposes, special feed nozzles are used. The design of the fan nozzle allows you to simultaneously treat a large area of the windshield with liquid. Outwardly, it looks like a fan is opening. Hence the corresponding name of the device.
You shouldn't make hasty conclusions. To decide whether you need such injectors or not, you should understand their strengths and weaknesses.
