Which car is better to take: VAZ 2115 or Daewoo Nexia?

Not all car enthusiasts can afford to buy an expensive car, or even a car from the middle price segment.

When choosing in the lowest price range for used cars, when the budget is limited to literally 100 thousand rubles, the most common models are Daewoo Nexia and the domestic auto industry represented by the VAZ-2110.

These two cars can really be compared to each other as they are equally cheap and have their own strengths and weaknesses. To settle on one of the candidates, you should compare them in more detail, look into the interior and engine compartment, and take into account other characteristics and capabilities that are significant for the buyer.

The comparison will be made between the latest update of the VAZ-2110 and the 2nd generation Daewoo Nexia.

General technical information

The second generation Daewoo Nexia was introduced at the end of the summer of 2008. Although it was called a new generation, in fact it is the result of a deep modernization of its predecessor. The car received a slightly modified appearance, a different interior and engines. Production of the car continued until 2016.

The second Nexia is built on a front-wheel drive platform from FGeneral Motors, which was called T-Body. Nexia inherited this trolley from the Opel Kadett E. The engine is mounted transversely. The front suspension is independent with MacPherson struts. At the rear there is a semi-independent system with an elastic cross member.

The steering mechanism is rack and pinion, and only on the TOP trim levels was power steering available. There are ventilated disc brakes at the front and primitive drums at the rear. ABS wasn't even an option.

The domestic top ten is much older than its current competitor, but this did not give Nexia any particular advantage.

Work on the VAZ-2110 project began back in 1983, but a prototype appeared only 2 years later. Serial production started in 1995. Even at that time, from a technical point of view, the model was significantly inferior to its foreign competitors.

Over the course of its entire life cycle, the ten went through several updates, but production was eventually stopped in 2007. Although, under license from the Bogdan plant under the brand of the same name, the car continued to be assembled in Cherkassy until 2014.

The VAZ-2110 uses a front-wheel drive platform, which the model inherited from the VAZ 2108. The front suspension is independent with MacPherson struts. At the rear, AvtoVAZ installed a semi-independent structure with a torsion beam. The steering mechanism is rack and pinion, but only in later versions did a standard hydraulic booster appear. VAZ 2115

It is a subcompact five-seater small group car owned by the Russian automobile manufacturer AvtoVAZ. Produced from 1997 to 2012 . It was produced as a sedan with a front-wheel drive layout. Powered by a four-cylinder gasoline engine and equipped with a five-speed manual transmission.

It differs significantly from its predecessor in the modified body on the rear side - the trunk lid, lighting devices. The hood and front fenders were rounded, the bumpers were also changed, an additional brake light and moldings were added. But the finishing materials are frankly low quality. The plastic is oak, the upholstery materials are cheap. The build is well below average. Numerous gaps and cracks are normal for this machine. The front seats lack even a hint of lateral support, and adjustments are minimal. The rear sofa is designed for 2 people. There is minimal space in the legs. For the C-class, this is a frankly weak result.

Where is the VIN code?

But keep in mind that these are only stated characteristics. Real performance in Russian operating conditions was worse. Add to this the wear and tear of used cars, and the parameters become even more modest.

Experts point out that in the Daewoo model in question, the switches and buttons installed in the cabin operate without jamming, that is, smoothly and easily. This is an undoubted advantage of the car.

It should, however, be understood that a budget car like the Nexia has many significant drawbacks. However, for the most part they are skillfully hidden and do not catch the eye. These include:

  • poor fastening of the cables going to the rear speakers - they are often broken off by things carried in the trunk;
  • poor interior design;
  • less comfort for the person driving;
  • insufficient engine power;
  • weak (compared to VAZ) obedience to the steering wheel, etc.

Thus, the interior of Nexia is noticeably worse than in 2115, however, the quality of fitting of parts is an order of magnitude higher.

A person choosing a car will have the following advice:

  • if appearance is more important, then you should choose Nexia;
  • when reliability and power are required, the VAZ-2115 is suitable.

In the latter, it is definitely much more convenient for the driver to drive the car. He has at his disposal:

  • adjustable seat;
  • comfortable seat belt;
  • customizable steering column.

The engine installed on the Nexia fully complies with emission standards and international standards. Their exhausts practically do not pollute the environment.

At the same time, the product of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant in question accelerates to 100 kilometers, and subsequently the movement, while maintaining acceleration in 5th gear, occurs smoothly, while the Daewoo has problems.

Meanwhile, VAZ:

As practice shows, very often a consumer, when buying a VAZ, is subsequently forced to independently fine-tune certain elements. The most common defects experienced car enthusiasts include:

However, in any case, it is necessary to remember that a foreign car is more expensive to maintain than domestic cars. However, now many components for Nexia are somewhat cheaper. At the same time, the VAZ needs maintenance less often - the difference between the models under consideration, in particular, is approximately 5 thousand kilometers.

Security and Manageability

Both vehicles have not been tested by Euro NCAP or IIHS. Therefore, it is difficult to assess safety.

But objectively, these cars are far from ideal in terms of protecting the driver and passengers. Airbags are a luxury, as are full power windows, a good radio, air conditioning and other familiar components of a modern car.

Handling is slightly better in the ten. The car behaves well on bad roads and stays confidently on the road at a speed of about 130 kilometers per hour. Nexia becomes unstable already at 120 km/h. The roll is well felt in both cases when entering a turn. The absence of a hydraulic booster in the basic configurations affects the sensations. Driving for a long time is tiring.

As noted by all those who were lucky enough to test both cars being compared today. For city trips, it is again better to choose Nexia: it rides softer, does not rattle or vibrate, has power steering and air conditioning, and is generally much more attractive. At the same time, with regard to suburban routes and unpaved roads, Daewoo is significantly inferior to the brainchild of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant - the VAZ 2114 has more ground clearance, faster acceleration, and better cross-country ability. Although, of course, the final choice is always yours, because driving the chosen car is ultimately yours alone.

Options and prices

There was no clear hierarchy of equipment for the VAZ-2110. Daewoo Nexia was offered in 3 trim levels before production ceased. These are Classic, Basic and Luxury.

Car prices are low. It's worth making a little comparison here. You can get a dozen for literally 80-100 thousand rubles. Although there are more expensive options. The first generation Nexia costs the same. But the second generation will cost more due to its younger age and better condition. From 150 thousand rubles and above for a decent copy.
