Error P0505 - Idle Speed Control System - Malfunction

ERRORS ON-BOARD COMPUTER VAZ 2110: NOTE TO OWNERS OF “TENS”

VAZ 2110 error codes are presented numerically on the display, and they are transmitted from phase sensors to the on-board computer. This is convenient, but a novice driver will not understand much and will not be able to figure out how to use this equipment. But you need to know and be able to do this, since the system, thanks to the built-in self-diagnosis function, will help to identify a malfunction in the early stages, which means it is possible to eliminate it in a timely manner.

Diagnostics

There are two ways to diagnose the condition of car systems. Let's start with the first one, which does not involve the use of additional equipment.

To start the self-diagnosis function, you need to press a button that resets the mileage for the day. Turn on the ignition. You will see how the arrows on the instruments begin to move from one position to another. This means that the diagnostics of the VAZ 2110 has been launched and information has begun to flow from the phase sensors to the ECU. After the process is completed, the RAM will transmit numbers to the display that will show the state of the car’s systems.

Decoding combinations

When the self-diagnosis is completed and the number 0 is displayed, this means that everything is in order with the vehicle and all systems are working as expected:

  1. if 1 is displayed, this indicates that there are problems with the microprocessor or the RAM is failing;
  2. 4 - high voltage in the network, more than 16 V;
  3. if 8, then low.

If there is not one fault, but several, then a figure equal to the sum of faults will be displayed. If 6 lights up, then this will mean the sum of the numbers 2 and 4. If 14, then most likely there are three malfunctions at once, namely 2, 4 and 8.

The simplest diagnostics that is available to the driver without the use of additional equipment. It will, of course, help identify some faults, as well as show the condition of the components and systems of the VAZ 2110 as a whole. But to specifically identify all faults and decipher information coming from phase sensors, additional tools are needed. For example, the on-board computer STATE, which provides more data.

Diagnostics using additional tools

To diagnose cars, including the VAZ 2110, various equipment is used, which is connected to a special connector. Thanks to this equipment, which is not particularly complicated or expensive, you can get a complete picture of the condition of the car.

The service station uses a personal computer to which data from phase sensors is transmitted via a special cable.

Bluetooth devices have appeared on the market that allow diagnostics using a smartphone, tablet or laptop.

They work according to the scheme. The device is connected to the connector, the ignition is turned on and the diagnostic process begins. The data comes from phase sensors to the ECU. From it to a mobile device on which specialized software must first be installed.

This makes it possible not only to obtain more data, but also to present it in a more visual form. This method allows a driver, even with little experience in operating a car (in our case, a VAZ 2110), to obtain all the data about his car.

But most drivers prefer to carry out diagnostics at a service station. So that you are aware of the data that the on-board computer produces through RAM from the phase sensors, we will present the transcripts of common errors.

Decoding combinations

If problems arise with electrical equipment, they must be corrected immediately. Error code 1602 will indicate that not everything is in order in this matter.

Sometimes error 1602 can simply be reset and does not appear in the future. Socialists call such data “good.”

Error 1602 sometimes appears if:

  1. the battery was disconnected for some time;
  2. there was a voltage surge when starting the engine, for example, in cold weather.

But if error code 1602 appears all the time, you need to check the entire network. Perhaps there is a break. If error code 1602 constantly appears, you can try cleaning the battery terminals. Check if they are securely fastened. Didn't help, error 1602 still appears? Check the circuit. You need to start from the positive terminal of the battery. Start with the electrical fuse and fuse link.

Check the ground of the ECU, TPS. Sometimes it happens that the cause of error code 1602 is an alarm that can block the controller circuit and affect the readings of the phase sensors. In such a situation, you need to file a claim with the company that installed the alarm.

Error 0102 indicates a low signal level, which is reported from the mass air flow phase sensor.

Code 0102 will be stored in RAM memory in the following situations:

  1. low air consumption, which depends on the speed of rotation of the crankshaft;
  2. how open the throttle is;
  3. Several cycles have passed since the problem appeared.

If the error appears periodically, then you need to:

  1. check the condition of the air barrier;
  2. fastening the wiring block to the ECU;
  3. check IAC;
  4. clean the throttle pipe.

Another error that may occur is 0300. 0300 appears in cases where the RAM detects frequent misfires.

If error code 0300 is displayed constantly, then you need to check the following components:

  1. spark plug;
  2. nozzles;
  3. ignition system;
  4. increased or decreased compression levels may be the cause of code 0300;
  5. Also, code 0300 may appear in case of wiring failure.

You cannot ignore the appearance of error 0300. In the future, this may lead to deterioration in the performance of other nodes.

It is not difficult to master car diagnostics, in particular the VAZ 2110. It will extend the service life due to timely detection of faults detected by phase sensors.

How to get rid of error 505 in the Play Store

Error 505 appears when you try to install an application developed with Adobe Air. Its main reason is a mismatch between the software versions and the operating system. There are several options for solving this problem, and each will be discussed below. Looking ahead, we note that only one method of eliminating the error in question can be called simple and safe. Let's start with it.

Method 1: Clear system application data

Most Play Store errors that occur when trying to install or update an application can be resolved by reinstalling it. Unfortunately, the 505 we are considering is an exception to this rule. In short, the essence of the problem is that already installed applications disappear from the smartphone; more precisely, they remain in the system, but are not displayed. Consequently, they cannot be removed, nor can they be reinstalled, since they are supposedly present in the system. The 505 error itself occurs directly when trying to install software that is already installed.

To fix the problem, it is first recommended to clear the cache of the Play Store and Google Services. The data that this software accumulates while using a smartphone can have a negative impact on the functioning of both the system as a whole and its individual components.

Note: Our example uses a smartphone with Android 8.1 (Oreo) OS. On devices with previous versions of the system, the location of some items, as well as their names, may be slightly different, so look for ones that are close in meaning and logic.

  1. Open Settings and go to the Applications section. Then go to the “All applications” tab (may be called “Installed”).
  2. Find Play Store in the list and tap on its name to open the main application settings. Go to "Storage".
  3. Here, click on the “Clear cache” and “Clear data” buttons in turn. In the second case, you will need to confirm your intentions - just tap “OK” in the pop-up window.
  4. After completing these steps, go back to the list of installed applications and find Google Play Services there. Click on the application name, and then go to the "Storage" section.
  5. Tap “Clear cache” and “Manage space” alternately. In the window that opens, select the last item – “Delete all data” and confirm your intentions by clicking “OK” in the pop-up window.
  6. Exit to the Android home screen and restart your device. To do this, hold your finger on the “Power” button, and then select the appropriate item in the window that appears.
  7. After the smartphone boots up, you should proceed in one of two scenarios. If the application that was causing the 505 error appears on the system, try launching it. If you don’t find it on the main screen or in the menu, go to the Play Store and try to install it.

If the steps described above do not help eliminate the 505 error, you should move on to more radical measures than clearing system application data. All of them are described below.

Method 2: Reinstall Google Apps

Many users, most of whom are owners of old Nexus devices, could “move” from Android 4.4 to the 5th version of the operating system, as they say, illegally, that is, by installing a custom one. Quite often, firmware from third-party developers, especially if they are based on CyanogenMod, do not contain applications from Google - they are installed in a separate ZIP archive. In this case, the cause of error 505 is the mismatch between the OS and software versions described above.

Fortunately, fixing this problem is quite easy - just reinstall Google Apps using custom recovery. The latter is probably present in the OS from third-party developers, as it was used to install it. You can find out more details about where to download this application package, how to choose the appropriate version for your device and install it in a separate article on our website (link below).

Tip: If you have just installed a custom OS, the optimal solution would be to first reinstall it through recovery, after doing a reset, and then download another Google Apps package.

Technical description and interpretation of error P0505

OBD II Trouble Code P0505 is defined as “Idle Air Control System Malfunction.” Set when the powertrain control module (PCM) is unable to maintain or control engine idle speed.

In most cases, the PCM will attempt to make adjustments to various systems such as fuel timing, ignition timing, injection pulse timing, and others. Trying to maintain a given idle speed. However, when this limit is reached, the PCM will set code P0505 and turn on the warning light.

Idle speed in gasoline engines is adjusted and controlled by the idle air control valve, which is usually located on the throttle body. The valve is driven by a stepper motor, which receives commands from the PCM based on information received from various sensors located on the engine.

For example, if the engine is started in sub-zero temperatures, the PCM commands the valve to allow less air to enter the engine. This allows you to enrich the fuel-air mixture and creates conditions for regulating idle speed in cold weather.

As the engine warms up and combustion becomes easier and more complete. The PCM commands the idle air control valve to increase the amount of air entering the engine in response to changing conditions.

If the load on the engine changes, for example, when some electrical consumers are turned on or off. The PCM adapts the signal voltage to the idle air control valve. To ensure that the idle speed remains stable and at the RPM specified by the manufacturer.

[textbox note that the idle air control valve is closed by the PCM when the throttle valve is opened. This is done in order to prevent excess air from entering the engine.

Symptoms of malfunction

The main driver symptom of P0505 is the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light). It is also called Check engine or simply “check light”.

They can also appear as:

  1. The “Check engine” warning light on the control panel will light up (the code will be stored in memory as a malfunction).
  2. Floating speed, as well as attempts to stall at idle.
  3. Idle speed is higher or lower than normal.
  4. The engine may stall if the idle speed is not maintained by pressing the accelerator pedal.

How to Troubleshoot or Reset Trouble Code P0505

Some suggested steps to troubleshoot and fix error code P0505:

  1. Read all data and stored error codes using an OBD-II scanner.
  2. Clear the codes and check if the P0505 code appears again.
  3. Observe the engine's operation at idle speed, with the gear engaged and disengaged. To check whether the engine idle speed corresponds to the values specified in the manufacturer's technical documentation.
  4. Check the engine for vacuum leaks.
  5. Inspect the throttle body for carbon buildup. And also on the body and inlet of the idle air bypass control valve.
  6. Disconnect and check the idle air control valve.
  7. Check if the idle air control valve passages are clogged.

Car diagnostics

Of course, it is impossible to detect a malfunction in the operation of a vehicle without diagnostics. This can be done using special equipment, which can be found at every specialized service station. But you can also check your car for faults on your own. Note that when checking the car yourself, the error codes will not be the same as when diagnosing on the equipment.

Car VAZ 2115 tuning

So, how can you independently diagnose the state of the VAZ 2115 on-board computer? This question came to the mind of every owner of these car models. Now we will tell you about this in more detail. But diagnosing the car is half the battle, because the resulting combinations of faults also need to be deciphered.

Self-diagnosis of VAZ:

  1. Find the odometer button on the instrument panel. You need to clamp it down.
  2. Then turn the ignition key to position 1.
  3. Having done this, the odometer button will need to be released.
  4. When you release the button, the arrows on the instrument panel will start jumping.
  5. Press and release the odometer button again. Numbers will appear on the speedometer indicating the firmware version of the on-board computer.
  6. Finally, hold and release the odometer button for the third time and you can see the fault combination. In the case of self-checking, error codes will be presented in two-digit form, in contrast to diagnostics on equipment, where faults are presented in four-digit form.

Diagnosis and problem solving

Connect the scanner, read and write down all available codes. This information may be useful if an intermittent fault is later diagnosed.

If other codes are present along with the P0505 code, diagnose and resolve them in the order in which they were stored. The most likely additional codes are usually related to the vacuum system.

Therefore, check the vacuum system for leaks caused by damaged vacuum lines. If necessary, repair and clear all codes before operating the vehicle. Then, retest the system to see if any codes are returned.

Throttle valve

If the code persists, remove the throttle body from the intake tract and inspect it for excessive carbon deposit buildup. In some cases, it may be possible to remove light carbon deposits from the throttle body and auxiliary air passages using approved cleaners.

However, heavy deposits usually cannot be removed without damaging the throttle body or idle air control valve. In these cases, the best option is to replace the throttle body or idle air control valve with original parts.

When installing cleaned or replaced parts, ensure that all seals and gaskets are also replaced to prevent vacuum leaks. Double check all vacuum line connections before starting the engine or operating the vehicle.

Checking wires and connections

If the P0505 code persists, perform a thorough visual inspection of all associated wiring. Look for damaged, burnt, shorted or corroded wires and connectors.

Once no visible damage is found, check resistance, ground, and reference voltage. Compare all readings obtained with the data specified in the manual. Replace wiring as necessary to ensure all readings are within manufacturer specifications.

Stepper motor and idle control valve

Check the actual signal voltage that reaches the stepper motor at the connector. Using a scanner, command the idle air control valve to open. Compare the obtained value with the values specified in the manual.

Special diagnostic programs usually produce a voltage range that corresponds to the degree of opening of the idle air valve. And sometimes the degrees of rotation of the stepper motor.

These readings must correspond exactly to the stated values, otherwise the harness must be replaced. If all readings obtained are consistent with the stated values, the stepper motor is faulty and must be replaced.

These steps should resolve the P0505 code. But if it still appears again, then perhaps the problem is periodic. In such a case, diagnosis can be challenging. And sometimes it is necessary to give the malfunction a chance to worsen in order to understand exactly where the problem is.
