Why does the key light up on the instrument panel? time to visit a car service

3.F above.
8. Setting the reference value of the TPMS tire pressure monitoring system (optional).

In the optional version, the car is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Setting the reference value (see point 3.G) should always be done after checking the air pressure in cold tires (see section "Tires and wheels"),

9. Informing about the need for maintenance (optional).

In a variant version, the car is equipped with a system for informing about the need for maintenance. (The key indicator lights up on the instrument panel, and the on-board computer screen will display the set threshold for mileage in “km”, or for time in days “-d”)

Your vehicle must be serviced every 15,000 km or once a year, whichever comes first.

When the warning threshold of 1,500 km or one month (whichever comes first) for the need to carry out maintenance is reached, when the ignition is turned on, the function is displayed on the liquid crystal display for three seconds, indicating the remaining period (in km and/or days). In this case, the function readings will become available for viewing on the liquid crystal display when scrolling through the functions of the on-board computer (see point 1 with examples above). When the service period has completely expired, the remaining value is replaced by dashes.

To turn off information (indication), see paragraph 3.H above.

After undergoing maintenance and resetting the counters, the indication of the function readings will become unavailable.

Why does the key light up on the instrument panel? Time to visit a car service

Service interval or why the key is on on the dashboard.
From the title of the article it is already clear that we will talk about the timing of vehicle maintenance. Thanks to modern digital technologies, it has become much easier for the driver to monitor processes in the car, its status online, problems and warnings. Eg

, previously, the fact that the tension of the timing belt had reached its limits could only be known when it broke, but now this is signaled by a light on the instrument panel, and there are a lot of such warning methods. Only one thing is required from the driver - a timely response to the car's signals, otherwise the car will break down.

What to do if an INSP error occurs on a Volkswagen

If there is an error, it is recommended to reset the maintenance indicator. When maintenance was not performed at a certified service center for Volkswagen Polo brand vehicles, the indicator can be reset as follows:

  • The ignition turns off.
  • Press and hold the “0.0/SET” key for a short time.
  • The ignition turns on again.
  • The “0.0 / SET” button is no longer held, then for twenty seconds. press the key with two horizontal rectangles.

Note! The maintenance indicator is strictly not allowed to be reset between visits to a car service center, since after this it will display incorrect information about future maintenance.

InSP shows an indication of the time interval until service maintenance. If an error occurs, scheduled maintenance can be performed. Although, on the other hand, resetting the display data will help get rid of the problem.

When a Volkswagen Polo car is under warranty, it is not recommended to get rid of the InSP error and reset the counter yourself. It is necessary to contact a Volkswagen dealership and undergo scheduled maintenance.

Otherwise, if there is no maintenance mark in the service book, the car owner may be denied warranty service. If the car's warranty has expired, you can get rid of the InSP error yourself by resetting the counter and the readings on the display.

Handicraftsmen and reset

Some people manage to reset this indicator temporarily in this way

:

  • Pull the ignition key out of the lock;
  • Press the odometer button for 5.0 seconds;
  • Without releasing the button, insert the key and place it in the extreme right position (to start). The panel should all light up with LEDs;
  • At that second when the entire panel lights up, release the odometer button and then repeat pressing and releasing five times with a minimum interval. Key for several thousand km. mileage will go out. But will this save you?!
  • Many people do not recommend this method, since there is a high probability that you will be 1000 km away. If you forget about the signal on the side of the car, you will cause even more damage, and sometimes even irreparable.

InSP - maintenance reminder

It is worth mentioning the features of the trip computer. The Volkswagen Polo is equipped with a trip computer, which makes it possible to get acquainted with the following data:

  • daily mileage;
  • outside air temperature;
  • how long did the trip take;
  • consumption of fuel material (instant/current);
  • driving speed (average value);
  • remaining fuel in the tank;
  • the distance available to the driver with the remaining gasoline in the tank.

When the maintenance period is approaching, when you turn on the ignition of the Volkswagen Polo, an InSP reminder about the need to undergo it is displayed. In this case, on the instrument display you can see the wrench icon and the mileage value indicated in the KM.

The indicated digital value shows how far you can travel in kilometers before the recommended maintenance. A few seconds pass, the picture on the display changes to a “icon” of a clock - this indicates the number of days before the maintenance.

Maintenance intervals

As such, there are simply no uniform standards for all brands, since each manufacturer himself decides the optimal replacement time for his brand or several brands. But, there are some standards that have been developed over the years and tested by experience:

Changing engine oil: for passenger cars, the estimated period is about 15–30 thousand km. mileage, depending on operating conditions. Of course, if the conditions are not standard, then the replacement must be carried out a little more often and the fluid used for the appropriate climate;

Maintenance deadline approaching

Once the time has come to carry out maintenance, a signal sounds when the ignition is turned on. At the same time, the wrench icon begins to appear on the display.

How to request the interval until the next maintenance? When the ignition is turned on on a Volkswagen car that is parked with the engine turned off, it is realistic to make an INSP request about the upcoming maintenance. To do this, press a special key in the instrument cluster until the wrench icon pops up. If the maintenance is overdue, the mileage value in KM is displayed on the screen with a minus sign.

There are 2 options: the relay in the signaling unit is faulty (i.e. the unit is for repair or replacement), or the signaling unit was installed by “garage professionals” and the wiring was hooked up crookedly. Polyube is on the way to the alarm installers, let them look for the jamb. If you installed it yourself, then remove the unit and take it to a service center for diagnostics.

PS: I’m in Tver this weekend, I’ll be at the dacha, come and have a look, maybe we can manage without the service.

Well, it was only in the fall that the maintenance took place.

RACING , we already wrote above what this icon means. And what to do in this regard can be found out by answering the following questions: 1. Why was maintenance done in the fall? Someone said that the oil needs to be changed in the fall, or has a year passed since the last maintenance, or has the car had 10-15 thousand miles on it? 2. Was this done at a special service center or did “someone” change the oil? It’s just that at a special service, when passing through, they usually reset this counter to zero, which lights up the “key”, and someone unfamiliar with Citroens may not know this
