Appearance alone is not enough to make a decision about the advisability of a purchase. You also need to recognize their strengths and weaknesses.

In our article we will try to figure out what is worth buying - a VAZ 2110 or a VAZ 2114. And, if it is, then which model should you prefer?

The predecessor of the VAZ 2114 was the VAZ 2113, which had long since gained universal popularity, converted from the “nine”. When creating this car, the overall exterior was partially updated. A new bumper was installed in the front part, thanks to which the VAZ 2114 acquired a streamlined shape. Of course, it does not go unnoticed that the rear of the car has suffered virtually no changes.

The interior, compared to the “nine”, has been completely redone. The car now has a European-style panel with a built-in thermometer and liquid crystal display. The ventilation in the cabin has also been significantly changed. The instruments were arranged as closely as possible, giving the driver additional free space.

The undeniable advantages of the car include seats upholstered with high-quality and modern materials, under which there is a heating system. At the request of the buyer, air conditioning and sports seats can be installed in the car. The model is constantly being improved. The only negative quality is that it is impossible to predict how well the machine was assembled.

The Russian company VAZ has long concluded a contract with Porsche in order to jointly develop several cars from the line, including the “nine”, which is the ancestor of the VAZ 2114 model. When deciding to purchase such a car, keep in mind that its continuous production began back in 2003. The complete lack of comfort in these cars even upset me. In 2004, I bought a ten with a 1.5 liter engine as my first car. Since there was nothing special to compare with, at first I thought that everything was perfect. Then I began to notice that the engine speed was fluctuating. I gave it to the service and they did it. After this, problems with ignition appeared. In general, because of little things, the car began to self-destruct. After ten years I had an old Opel for a couple of years. Then my parents gave me a brand new “14”. And you know, even after the old Opel, the new VAZ 2114 seemed incredibly uncomfortable. Stiff suspension, cramped interior (my height is 183 cm), creaky plastic…. It turned out, by the way, that the car practically spits out gasoline if you drive at a speed of 100-110 km per hour. Yes, the repair of these two cars will require small expenses from their owners. All spare parts are always in stock, so the whole procedure will take little time. However, buying a vehicle, planning in advance where it will be sent for repairs, is illogical. The car must be, first of all, reliable. This characteristic cannot be applied to the VAZ 2110 and VAZ 2114.

A large number of problems with engines, chassis and electronics make it unattractive in the eyes of potential buyers. People who have limited funds buy a car, and the purchase is most often accompanied by the words “I don’t feel sorry for it.” It’s really not a pity: neither modern appearance, nor “explosive” dynamic characteristics. If AvtoVAZ had carefully improved the technical side of the cars, released modern restyled versions, introduced at least a minimal safety system into the equipment and improved the optics of its creations, their history would have received a new, promising continuation.

Engines VAZ-2110 and 2114

If we consider production cars, then the tenth generation models were equipped with both standard 8-valve and 16-valve engines. And the VAZ-2114 in most cases has 8-valve engines. In recent years, AvtoVAZ has offered consumers the opportunity to purchase a VAZ-2114 model with a 16-valve system, but this pleasure can only be obtained for an additional fee. As for the design of the instrument panel, this is probably a matter of taste and I don’t see much difference between these car brands. Personally, I found 2114 more convenient in this regard, although many people prefer the 10. You can argue endlessly.

Regarding squeaks and extraneous sounds, the 4 is slightly inferior to its competitor, and this particular model is considered one of the strongest rattles.

Now a few words about the interior heater. I didn’t notice much of a difference, although I used both one and the other car in fairly severe frosts. The VAZ 2110 seemed a little warmer, although, frankly speaking, these cars are far from being compared to such models as Kalina or Granta.

Here you will find almost new “sevens”, which were taken off the production line only in 2012, roomy “tens”, the eternal Samara and the most modern of them all – Kalina.

We will not consider Priora, and especially Grant. For that kind of money, we will only come across outright junk, which, even by AvtoVAZ standards, does not make sense to restore. We will choose simpler cars, and start with the older generation.
