First, you need to accurately measure the distance between the pedal and the floor mat (the bottom of the car). To perform this task, a regular ruler will do. The measuring tool must be positioned so that its angle of inclination is 90 degrees. For VAZ-2110 models, the acceptable value is 120-130 mm. Use the second wrench (“19”) to keep the tip from turning. We remove the part from the fasteners. The tip bracket is removed from the studs. Next, unscrew the screw of the protective cover holder. Here we need to unscrew the bolt with which the cable is attached to the pedal. We dismantle the bushing and inspect its technical condition. If necessary, we make a replacement. Under it there is a flywheel gear, on which the mark is located. It should coincide with the cut on the left side of the crankcase.
6. Move on to the crankshaft pulley mark. To do this, you need to loosen the tension on the generator belt by unscrewing the tensioner nut.
7. Having removed the belt from the pulley, we fix the current position of the flywheel by inserting a screwdriver between its crown and the crankcase.
8. Place the 17 key on the generator pulley bolt, unscrew it and remove it. Behind it there is a crankshaft gear with a mark, which should coincide in this position with the mark on the oil pump cover.
9. If any pairs of marks do not match, you need to turn off the gear, screw in the bolt securing the generator pulley, and, without removing the key from it, gradually turn the crankshaft until all the marks match.
10.When the marks are in place, remove the tension roller with a 15mm wrench, then the support roller, and remove the timing belt.
10. We install new rollers, install a new belt, starting with the crankshaft pulley.
11.Tighten the belt by rotating the tension roller clockwise using a special wrench (or fixing it with curved pliers) until the tension is optimal. You can check the degree of tension without the help of tools. It is enough to grasp the belt in the area between the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft pulleys and rotate it horizontally. The optimal tension will be at which you can turn it with your fingers no more than 90 degrees.

When adjustment is needed
You need to send the car to the garage and start adjusting the clutch system of your VAZ 2110 as soon as you notice signs of deviation from the normal operation of the unit.
The clutch greatly affects the performance of the entire car. What can we say, without it you will not be able to engage a single gear. Therefore, you will not be able to go anywhere.
The pedal may be too tight or fall apart at the slightest pressure. Both situations indicate that the clutch needs to be adjusted.
In general, the work is carried out in two stages:
- Clutch travel is checked;
- The setup itself is carried out directly.
But the first thing you should start with is studying the most important tool for repairing all components, assemblies and mechanisms of the VAZ 2110. Of course, we are talking about the instruction manual. Open it at the clutch section, study the main nuances, understand the essence of the unit, its design, operating principle, and then become familiar with the adjustment process.
Now we will talk about two main setup steps.
Pedal travel
This is where the whole process begins. The factory manual states that normal travel is about 13 centimeters.
But over time, the parameter increases as the driven disc lining wears out. This leads to the fact that the pedal rises slightly. Measuring the indicator is not difficult.
- Open the door leading to the driver's seat in the cabin.
- Squat down so you are close to the pedals.
- Place a regular ruler on the mat under the pedal, positioning it perpendicular to the clutch pedal.
- Measure the distance from the mat to the extreme point of the pedal, that is, the maximum distance.
- If the indicator is 16 centimeters or more, this indicates an urgent need for adjustment.
Adjustment
If the situation demands it, we will do it. You don’t have to disassemble anything, because this process can be performed even by a beginner who does not have much experience in car repairs.
The setup process is as follows:
- Arm yourself first with a pair of simple keys for 13.
- Open the hood and locate the clutch cable lug in the engine compartment.
- There is a lock nut on it.
- Using the first wrench, slightly loosen the locknut, and with the second, turn the adjusting nut.
- If you turn it closer to the tip, the total pedal travel will increase, and if you move it in the opposite direction, the pedal travel will decrease.
- Tighten the nut and check how the manipulations affect the clutch pedal inside the cabin.
- Having reached the desired mark of 13 centimeters, sharply press the clutch pedal about 5 times and release. If the distance is less or more than required, repeat the operation.
- Having completed the adjustment, tighten the lock nut back, and therefore slide the rubber stopper sleeve as far as it will go.
With these simple steps you can do the work on your car yourself. But keep in mind that if the cable or other components of the clutch drive show signs of deformation or wear, it is better not to risk it, but to immediately replace them when making adjustments. This will protect you from many problems in the future.
The adjustment cannot be called complicated, so there is no point in going to a service station. Well, unless you have a lot of other things to do and you don’t have time to work on your car.

Step-by-step instruction
Let's consider two options. This is an adjustment for full and free pedal travel.
Adjusting the pedal's full travel:
- Unlock the nut (it is marked with a white mark).
Adjustment with bolt
- Using a bolt, we adjust the clutch.
Adjusting the pedal free play:
- Using a "12" wrench, loosen the nut.
- By unscrewing the rod, we reduce the pedal stroke, and vice versa, by screwing it in, we increase its stroke.
- If adjustment by hand does not work, then use the key set to “6”. When adjusting, constantly check the operation of the clutch pedal and its travel.
- As a result, your reverse gear should engage freely and without any crunching sounds.
Adjustment via stem
The whole process is quite simple and will not take much time, and the result will be a comfortable ride and good condition of the clutch components.

For long-term and trouble-free operation of the clutch system, the following rules must be observed. You can't keep your foot on the clutch for long. Usually this manner is acquired at the very beginning of learning to drive a vehicle due to the fear of not being able to disengage the clutch in time before stopping the car. Without taking into account the constant tension of the leg, which is located above the pedal, the pedal is pressed, albeit slightly, and at the same time gradual wear of the driven disk occurs. The release bearing, although it is intended to function in rotation, is under a greater load when the pedal is depressed, which significantly reduces its service life. It is strictly not recommended to disengage the clutch for a long time (for example, while parking in traffic jams). If you have to park for a long time, move the gearshift lever to neutral and release the clutch.
The slipping of the Daewoo Nexia clutch system is easily determined by the tachometer readings. If, while driving, when you depress the gas pedal, the revolutions quickly increase, and then gradually decrease and the car accelerates, then the clutch system needs immediate repair.
Step-by-step instructions for adjusting the VAZ-2110 clutch with your own hands
First, you should measure the distance between the clutch pedal and the mat, placing a ruler against the latter. The normal figure is 12-13 cm, but if it is within 16 cm, adjusting the VAZ-2110 clutch is not yet necessary.
If this indicator is higher, repairs are performed. How to adjust the clutch on a VAZ-2110:
- The car is placed on a level surface with the hand brake applied.
- We are looking for a mount that combines the pedal and the mechanical cable under the hood. At the end of the latter there should be two lock nuts.
- The lock nut located on the lower tip is loosened, after which the second one is tightened until the desired pedal stroke is achieved. Loosening the second locknut increases the stroke, while tightening it, on the contrary, decreases it.
- The clutch pedal is pressed all the way 3-4 times.
- The pedal stroke is re-measured.
- When the desired indicators are achieved, the first locknut is tightened back.
- The rubber bushing moves until it rests against the fork.

Reason for long clutch travel:
Typically, the reason for checking the clutch pedal travel is to replace the clutch cable. After replacing the cable, this adjustment must be done 100%. There may also be other reasons for this: the clutch disc lining has worn out over time and requires replacement, and with this the pedal travel has increased. It is allowed that the clutch drive stroke on a VAZ 2110 car should be no more than 160 mm. Good indicators if the pedal travel is within 120-130 mm (the distance between the clutch pedal being depressed and the clutch pedal being pressed all the way into the mat).
