  • third option “C” - used when a non-standard camshaft is installed in a car engine, each model has such a series or batch of cars;
  • the penultimate “D” stands for Dynamic, this re-flashing of the engine is designed to increase power and torque, in other words it is a change in the dynamics of the car;
  • the last class “E” - firmware for reducing fuel consumption and adjusting engine efficiency, also designated as Economical.

As a rule, cars with an on-board computer are subject to engine flashing; it is these cars that have a special control unit and a factory mechanical part for controlling the unit designed for this purpose.

Improved gas dynamics

The most common method of increasing cylinder filling is to improve gas dynamics. But it is the most unguaranteed... With this method, the channels and combustion chamber are modified.

First, we increase the volume of the cylinders as much as possible. We do not use the camshaft, that is, the torque curve remains in the old speed range. As a result, we get a more dynamic car, without the driver having to change his driving style.

To increase the working volume of the cylinders, instead of the standard crankshaft, we install a part with a large eccentricity or bore the cylinders for pistons of a larger cross-section while maintaining the correct geometry. This is done on a high-precision machine.

The first option seems less expensive, but it has its own nuances. Finding a crankshaft with a large eccentricity is quite difficult. Basically, they are produced individually, and even then not all enterprises. Therefore, it is easier to purchase a standard product and select a piston group for it.

Naturally, you cannot do without new pistons and connecting rods. However, standard connecting rods will not fit a crankshaft with a large eccentricity - you need to install shortened ones, and they will provoke additional mechanical losses in the operation of the internal combustion engine due to increased movement resistance. In addition, short connecting rods are less reliable because they experience greater loads.

From this we conclude that the option with cylinder boring is less expensive. The thickness of the cylinder wall allows you to obtain additional volume by increasing the diameter by 1-2 mm without loss of strength. At the same time, you don’t need to bother with finding special pistons - serial models, of course, with a larger diameter, will do. Boring cylinder blocks in a car repair shop will cost 1200-1600 rubles.

Silence in the cabin

Largus used to be noisy. After restyling, an additional sound insulation package was provided for the luxury package. “Above-plan” mats were laid on the floor, in the body pillars, doors, wheel arches and on the ceiling. That is, almost everywhere.

The result is a reduction in interior noise of 1.7–2.7 dB at 100 km/h in fifth gear. And with intensive acceleration in third - by 5.1 dB. Excellent (and tangible) performance.

The first thing the process of flashing a car engine begins with is determining the purpose of flashing (fuel savings, increasing power or modifying the unit). To carry out this procedure, you will need a desktop computer or laptop (most often) with previously configured software and a special cord for connecting to the OBD port of the car.

Depending on the make and model of the car, the control unit can be located differently, in front under the panel, outside under the hood, under the seat, or even in the trunk of the car. But most often it is located in the front of the car, this is both convenient and accessible for flashing the car engine. It is better not to describe the process of flashing a car engine, reading, modifying and refilling, since it is different for each make, model, and even year of manufacture or submodel of the car. The main stages of flashing a car engine are adjusting the factory firmware and testing the results of the modification.

The Cross version is the case where changes can be kept to a minimum. If I had a choice between Largus and Largus Cross, I would without a doubt take the second one. And I would recommend this to everyone.

The car initially, if taken in a good configuration, minimizes the need for tuning. Everything I said before applies here.

But in practice, only some of the improvements are really useful in this case. I explain my position. The Cross version initially offers:

  • original body kits;
  • wheels with a diameter of up to 16 inches with beautiful designs;
  • roof rails, regardless of configuration;
  • rear parking sensors, regardless of configuration;
  • improved suspension struts (with them it’s not so scary to drive off-road);
  • modified seats with good lateral support and increased comfort compared to the regular Largus;
  • beautiful door cards and panels;
  • interesting dashboard along with the dashboard;
  • leather steering wheel;
  • The standard audio system already has 6 speakers (but I would still install multimedia).

Yes, most car owners don’t need more. The main thing is to initially buy a car with a rich configuration. Then tuning your Largus Cross comes down to a minimum set of modifications.

Don’t forget that AvtoVAZ offers several features for Cross from the factory. Namely:

It is impossible to deny the fact that previously only young car enthusiasts were engaged in tuning. But now improvements are increasingly of interest to adults and sensible people. This is due to the ability to optimize the operation of the car, reduce the cost of its maintenance through some changes to the factory version of the car. There are a number of measures to reduce fuel consumption through modernization.

Tuning is aimed not only at improving existing capabilities, but also at creating new functions. The choice of direction largely depends on what specific goals the car owner is pursuing.

Some strive to create an outwardly exquisite masterpiece on the basis of a standard factory car, that is, they are purely interested in changes in external perception. Others want to increase comfort and make being inside the car as pleasant as possible.

And there is also a category of motorists who do not care so much how the car looks on the outside or on the inside. The main thing for them is to achieve maximum power, increase acceleration dynamics and improve technical parameters

In this regard, tuning does not have a clear definition. These are any works, procedures and activities aimed at changing the design, appearance, factory settings and functions.

It is also worth noting what is considered car tuning from the position of the traffic police or traffic police. Every owner of a non-standard and modernized car will confirm that the State Traffic Inspectorate does not really like and feel sorry for such cars. This is due to possible violations that arise when changes are made to the design or technical component of the vehicle.

The same new audio system cannot be considered a violation, and is not included in the list of prohibited procedures for re-equipping a car. But if you install xenon that blinds oncoming cars, use dull tinting on the windshield, or boost the engine without changing the characteristics in the official documentation, expect fines and the possibility of confiscation of the vehicle until the faults are completely eliminated.

But tuning should not have the opposite effect, manifested in the form of deterioration in handling, reduced safety or harm to other road users.

When doing something new, you should always be aware of the rules, regulations and laws. Going against the law is strongly discouraged. You can clearly see how illegal tuning is done and what it leads to in the end. When boosting the engine on a machine not intended for this purpose, there is a risk of loss of control and explosion of the power unit. Some modifications in the interior using a large list of volatile equipment lead to failure of the generator, short circuits and fires of the car, since it cannot withstand such loads.

Modernization of the model is mostly aimed at increasing the level of comfort, reducing fuel consumption, increasing dynamics, and improving appearance.

Engine

One of the options for tuning the car in question is to improve the power unit, which is capable of developing from 102 to 106 hp. depending on the settings and features of the motor. For a measured ride, these characteristics are quite enough. However, there are car enthusiasts for whom the standard power is not enough. You can modify the engine in the following ways:

  • perform chip tuning by flashing the electronic control unit;
  • change characteristics by replacing engine parts.

Chipovka

The most popular option for upgrading a power plant is chip tuning. If the work is carried out in a specialized service, where the unit is flashed with a program with properly calibrated parameters, then you can get greater dynamics from the car. Depending on your wishes, the electronic unit can be re-flashed to suit your needs:

  • reduction in fuel consumption;
  • reduction of exhaust toxicity;
  • improvement of dynamic performance.

Reprogramming the unit yourself is not recommended, as there is a high probability of side effects. High-quality work costs about 4–10 thousand rubles. As a result of its implementation, it is possible to improve the elasticity of the engine and reduce consumption by 1.5 liters per 100 km. If the results of chipping seem insufficient to you, then you need to engage in more global modernization.

Technical improvement

Intervention in the design of the motor can improve the initial power characteristics by 10–40%. Refinement involves intervention in the following nodes:

  • supply system;
  • gas distribution mechanism;
  • injection elements;
  • cylinder-piston group.

Chassis

If the owner of the Largus Cross is not satisfied with the characteristics of the suspension, changes can be made to it. Through modifications you can improve the driving performance of the car. Changes can be aimed at the following actions:

  • installation of reinforced suspension elements;
  • increase or decrease in clearance;
  • installation of parts with improved characteristics (stands, stabilizers, etc.).

The clearance of the Largus Cross is 170–195 mm, depending on the configuration. These indicators are quite enough for confident driving both in the city, on the highway, and for trips into nature. If the ground clearance seems too low, it can be increased by installing special spacers for the shock absorbers. These parts are mounted between the cup and the racks.

There is also a more complex and expensive option for increasing ground clearance: replacing shock absorbers and springs or installing larger wheels. As for reducing the ground clearance, in relation to the Largus Cross this procedure is simply inappropriate, unless the goal is to make the car an exhibition piece.

Brake system

Tuning the brake system involves installing larger brake discs or products with perforations and notches. Thus, it is possible to increase the efficiency of the brakes and improve the removal of heat and moisture from the working surface. When choosing brake discs, you should focus on the standard size of 260 mm.

In addition to original wheels from Renault-AvtoVAZ, you can install products from the following manufacturers:

  • BM;
  • Hella;
  • MinTex.

Appearance

The owners put a lot of effort into changing the appearance of the Largus Cross. Let's look at the main elements that can be modified:

  • front and rear bumper. If desired, the car can be given a more sporty and dynamic look by installing tuned bumpers;
  • thresholds. Installing thresholds improves the appearance of the car, the landing is visually lowered and when installing the box on the roof, it is easier to use;

There are actually quite a few options for external tuning. If you listen to the opinion of many car owners, the standard instrument cluster is not very informative. To make this element more readable, you can install a digital instrument panel that is compatible with the standard wiring. If you do not want to completely change the instrument panel, you can replace the backlight lamps and controls to your liking. Thus, the lighting will not distract from the road during long night trips.

Interior and trunk lighting

Improvements to the lighting in the cabin can begin with the lampshade, since this element does not provide sufficient brightness of the backlight. Modernization comes down to replacing standard W5W light bulbs with LED ones. If the brightness is still not enough, install additional LED boards directly into the lampshade, connecting them parallel to the standard lamp and fixing them with double-sided tape. For better light diffusion, you can use foil, which is glued to the inner surface of the lampshade.

As additional light sources, you can use LED strips or lamps that are placed on the ceiling and connected to the trunk light connector. Additionally, you can organize illumination of the driver’s and passengers’ feet, as well as the thresholds when the door is open. For these purposes, LED strip or special lampshades are also used, which are connected to the door ends. Such modifications will provide the interior with a sufficient level of illumination.

Heating and ventilation

For Russian winters, it would be a good idea to equip the car seats with heating. When installing such equipment, you should use products from trusted manufacturers to avoid accidental fire.
