The famous company of the Russian automotive market, AVTOVAZ, has a new muse, or rather Steve Mattin, who inspires production to reach unprecedented heights. And it’s not just him, because with him came a fresh and young team that perfectly understands what a modern buyer needs. This can be confirmed by the completely new and different Lada XRay model created this year.

A little history: A true sensation was created in 2012 at the Moscow Motor Show, when the XRAY Concept was presented. After all, it set a completely new design tone for the further development of the brand and became the basis for this machine. The next public show took place in Moscow in 2014. Then Concept 2 was born, which began to resemble the series even more. What happened next is known to everyone - the crossover hatchback Lada XRAY was presented to dealers at the Moscow Off-Road Show, which took place on August 26, 2015. It was then that the manufacturer assured that 1000 cars would be produced before the end of 2015, and about 50 more in 2016 000 copies. And now, on December 15, 2015, as promised by the manufacturer, the new product entered the production line. “A high class B hatchback, designed in SUV style,” is how AvtoVAZ positioned the XRAY.

But the company’s design concept is still preserved, and this is the main thing. Attention is drawn to the original front of the body: stylish head optics with LED DRLs, which are shaped like an irregular quadrangle, a modern false radiator grille with chrome inserts that resemble the letter X, domestic designers adopted this trend from the Lexus RX and the new Mitsubishi Outlander 2016, which They designed their models this way, as well as a powerful and stylish bumper, which is covered at the bottom with protection for driving in various conditions.

Additional lighting resembles a boomerang in shape. There are X-shaped stampings on the side surfaces, and LED turn signal indicators on the rearview mirrors. The windshield is tilted to its maximum.

The window sill line is located higher, and the glass adds a collected look to the appearance. It’s true that the food turned out to be a little bland, apparently due to the simple lampshades of the overall lighting fixtures, which simply disappeared on the roof pillars. The first concept of Lada XRAY 2012

At the Moscow Motor Show in 2012, AVTOVAZ first presented the XRAY concept; it defined the so-called style DNA. It is clear that since then the car has been modified - only general features have been preserved from the concept. True, the style elements laid down in that first concept were preserved and adapted.

Now AVTOVAZ faces another task - to make an all-wheel drive XRAY. It will have a different level of noise insulation and a set of useful options even in minimal configurations.

Grunenkov noted that he is familiar with the criticism of the new product and tries to perceive it from a professional point of view. AVTOVAZ carefully monitors all user comments on social networks, and also works with potential buyers through the Customer Satisfaction Center.

So, many people think that the wheel size of a hatchback is too small. Grunenkov explained that it was defined in terms of handling and cross-country ability. The alloy wheel itself measures 16 inches, but the tire has certain off-road characteristics and is quite tall. If necessary, XRAY can also be used on a dirt road. Drum brakes are installed at the rear of the car, as they are better protected in aggressive environments: dust, snow, dirt. Disc brakes are more capricious in this regard, but options for their use will be considered in the future on special versions of the car.

He currently heads the XRAY project and took the time to tell fans of the Lada brand about decisions that seemed incomprehensible or controversial to a number of critics of the model.

The history of the creation of the model dates back to 2012 – then, at the International Moscow Motor Show, the first concept called Xray was shown. In 2014, another new product was presented to the world under the name “Concept 2”, which was already a full-fledged production model. And finally, in 2015, the first “live” five-door cars rolled off the assembly line of the Tolyatti auto giant. The beginner's dimensions are:

The crossover is based on a platform from Renault Nissan, and the car’s closest relative is a fairly well-known hatch - Renault SanderoStepway. Therefore, the suspension of front-wheel drive models has a rather primitive design - MacPherson in front, and a torsion beam in the rear.

Plans for the near future also include all-wheel drive - the Lada X Ray 4 x 4, which will be based on the Renault Duster technology (McPherson in front and multi-link in the rear).

This one will accelerate in 10.3 seconds; maximum acceleration speed - 183 km/h; 16-valve timing; works with a five-band robot; consumption 7.1 l.

The manufacturer has already announced the price of the new product and the equipment, which entered the assembly line in mid-December 2015. Car sales will begin on February 14. It is expected that more than 50 thousand LADA XRey crossovers will be produced in 2016.
