Draining waste fluid

It is necessary to drain the used engine fluid when the engine is warm. This is due to the fact that heated oil is more liquid. This makes it easier for it to leak out of the thin channels of the lubrication system.

The replacement can be made on any level surface, because it is not necessary to remove the engine protection on a Chevrolet Aveo. It has a special hole designed to drain the waste. But since we are changing in a pit, we removed the protection, so the draining process will be more accurate. The bolts that secure it are set to 17 key.

When everything is ready, we proceed to the draining operation:

    We lift the hood, find the filler neck on the engine, and unscrew the plug that closes it (Fig. 1).

  • Now we go down under the car and place a waste container in the drainage area. You can use a cut canister or an old bucket.
  • Unscrew the drain plug using a Torx T45 sprocket (Fig. 2).

    Using this method, you can drain the maximum amount of used oil, after which you can proceed to further actions. The main thing is not to forget, everything that we unscrewed must be put back in place.

    Flushing the lubrication system

    Engine flushing on a Chevrolet Aveo should be carried out only in exceptional cases, which include:

    1. Purchasing a used car when you cannot know about the quality, as well as the regularity of lubricant replacements.
    2. During operation, the service replacement interval was repeatedly exceeded.

  • Engine operation with constant frequent overheating, which contributes to coking and other deposits.

  • There are several types of flushes for the Chevrolet Aveo engine:

The absence of aggressive additives in the wash composition gently cleans the engine, but is not able to remove heavy contaminants.
  • Regular oil that you are going to use when changing. This method is not so popular due to its high price.

Installing a filter, filling in new engine fluid

If the Chevrolet Aveo lubrication system is sealed and does not require repair work to eliminate leaks, you can proceed to adding fresh oil. In addition to the oil itself, for the 1.6 engine we will need a new rubber sealing ring for the drain plug GM 90528145. As well as the original GM oil filter 93185674.

Consumables for maintenance

When everything is ready, let's move on to the bay:

  1. We put the drain plug in place, it is advisable to replace the rubber O-ring.
  2. We wipe the seat under the filter element housing.
  3. We put a new rubber ring on the plastic case, first lubricate it with fresh oil.
  4. We tighten and install the housing with a new filter element.
  5. Pour new oil into the filler neck.
  6. We check the level on the dipstick; it should be between the MIN and MAX marks.
  7. We start the engine, let it run for 10-15 seconds, then turn it off.
  8. After 5 minutes, check the level with a dipstick and top up if necessary.

HELPFUL ADVICE: It is recommended to drain the oil within 15 minutes after the trip, until it has cooled down and has good fluidity.

NOTE: For manual transmissions, use API GL4 SAE 80W-90 or SAE 75W-90 oil. The manufacturer recommends replacing the oil filled at the factory with SAE 75W gear oil if the vehicle is operated for a long time at ambient temperatures below -30°C.

To check the oil level, top up or replace it in a manual transmission, perform the following operations.

1. Remove the engine crankcase protection (see “Removing and installing mudguards and engine crankcase protection”).

2. Loosen the oil level plug located on the side of the gearbox housing and remove the plug. 3. The oil level should be at or slightly below the edge of the hole (you can reach the surface of the oil with a screwdriver or your finger).

4. If the oil level is very low (cannot be checked with a screwdriver or finger), remove the cap from the oil filler plug located on top of the gear shift housing.

5. . loosen the plug.

NOTE: The oil filler plug doubles as a breather, so make sure the holes in it are clean.

WARNING: Operating the vehicle without the protective plug cap is prohibited! If it is missing, road dirt will get into the gearbox.

7. Fill the oil with a syringe into the hole in the gear shift mechanism housing until it appears from the inspection hole. Close the inspection hole plug.

HELPFUL HINT: The plug has a magnet to collect metal wear debris; clean it before installing the plug.

8. Tighten the oil filler plug.

9. The design does not provide a plug for draining the oil, so if it is necessary to change the oil, install a container under the gearbox to drain the oil, and remove the bolts securing the lower cover of the gearbox.

10. . and drain the oil. 11. Remove the cover and gasket. 12. Wipe the cover and gasket with a clean rag to remove any remaining oil.

NOTE: Replace the gasket with a new one each time the bottom cover is removed.

13. Install the lower cover of the gearbox and fill in the oil as you did when checking its level and topping up (see paragraphs 1-7 of this subsection).

Leaks and problems

The longer the Chevrolet Aveo's mileage increases, the more problems appear, as in principle with any car. Most often this is due to natural wear and tear of the engine, causing oil to burn. Although the manufacturer allows for a small consumption.

The most problematic engine in the family is considered to be the 1.5 liter. Many owners complain about oil consumption. Most often, the culprit is the valve stem seals or coking of the piston rings. Although there may be many more options for problems with increased consumption.

All this is general information, which may manifest itself differently on each specific vehicle, since everyone’s operating modes are different. The same applies to leak locations; it is impossible to identify the cause from a distance.

Replacement process

To change the oil in a Chevrolet Aveo automatic transmission, you will have to study a little the technical characteristics and design features of the vehicle. So, you should understand that you will have to dismantle the pan and wash it.

According to the technical documentation, the Chevrolet Aveo automatic transmission contains 3 liters of oil. When changing, 2.75 liters / - 10% is usually sufficient. But, if flushing is carried out, all three liters will be required. Let's look at the replacement process itself:

We install the car on an overpass or pit. Of course, if you have your own lift, then the task is simplified.

  1. We remove the battery terminal so as not to short-circuit anything accidentally.
  2. We climb directly under the car and place the container opposite the drain bolt from the automatic transmission.

Unscrew the drain plug.

Smoothly unscrew the bolt and wait for the oil to drain.

The process of draining oil from the box.

Now, unscrew the screws securing the pallet and remove it from the car.

We install a new gasket and mount the pan in its seat.

Install the new pan gasket.

We take out the oil dipstick in the box. We will pour new liquid through it. If you don’t have a special watering can, you can do it yourself using a hose with a diameter of 10 and a plastic bottle.

We fill in new oil through the dipstick.

Disconnect the return hose. Then we connect the washing tube, and the second part into the bottle.

Disconnect the drain hose to flush the automatic transmission radiator.

We get behind the wheel of the car, start it and start going through the gears with a delay of 3-4 seconds. This is necessary to flush the automatic transmission radiator.

Having unscrewed the return line, set the hose to 10 to flush.

We put the unit back together and top up the oil.

Fuel consumption
