LADA Priora is one of the most expensive and at the same time best-selling domestic cars. Local car enthusiasts prefer the Priora because it is considered a car that has stood the test of time. But deciding on a car brand is only half the battle. It is clear that we are taking Priora. But here an “internal” dilemma arises: which Prior should we take? And if your wallet will quickly help you decide on the configuration, then choosing the body type is not so simple. Priora sedan or hatchback - which car is worthy of being in your garage?
Lada Priora is a time-tested car
Design
Lada Priora 2022 in a new body is a fast car, suitable for any type of road. During the renovation process, the image of the Lada Priora remained the same: smooth body lines, bright optics, an extraordinary radiator grille, chrome trim, a full range of options, interior comfort, a powerful rear bumper.
The Lada Priora car is: dynamism, maneuverability, cross-country ability and budget cost.
Exterior
The appearance of the 2022 Lada Priora, of course, is not “ultra-modern”, but it has become much more attractive and aristocratic. This is noticeable even if you just look at the Lada Priora from the photo. Changes are noticeable in the design of the false radiator grille; new stampings have been added on the doors. “Ribs” began to be visible on the hood, and elegance was added to the front bumper. The shape of the foglights was changed, and LEDs were added to the rear lights.
In all models of the Lada Priora 2022 Sedan, the following updates can be noted:
- Running lights.
- Light tinting of windows.
- Exterior mirrors are electric and heated.
- External handles are painted to match the color of the body.
- Light alloy wheels, fifteen inches.
- Steel temporary fourteen-inch spare wheel.
- Decorative wheel caps.
- One-piece stamped mudguard for the engine.
Of course, similar innovations have been introduced into all modifications, as can be seen from the photo of the 2022 Lada Priora Hatchback or Station Wagon. In general, we can say that the restyled Lada Priora 2022 has been given a very presentable look.
The front seats are comfortable, but the profile support is not sufficiently developed. The back row of the back row is located vertically - you can’t sit on such a sofa for a long time. In the photo of the interior of the new Lada Priora 2019, all the updates are clearly visible.
The following options have been added or changed in the Lada Priora Universal 2022 and in the Hatchback of the new Lada Priora:
- Frontal airbag.
- Auxiliary systems ABS, BAS, EBD.
- ISOFIX child seat attachment.
- Immobilizer, climate control, factory alarm, central locking with remote control.
- Navigator, multimedia with seven-inch monitor, 12 v socket, cabin filter.
- Armrests, headrests, folding backrest.
- The steering column is adjustable, with hydraulic booster, and electric windows.
- Front passenger sun visor, heated seats.
Defense history
The Swedes from SAAB were the first to strengthen car doors with powerful pipes: in 1972, the Saab 99 debuted with “safety bars”. It was only in the second half of the 70s, after the completion of work under the ESV (Experimental Safety Vehicle) program, initiated by the US Department of Transportation and supported by leading manufacturers, that “Swedish bars” began to be installed on other cars. By the way, among domestic cars, door bars were first installed in EuroSamara - VAZ-2109 cars, which were assembled from 1996 to 1998 for the European market by the Finnish company Valmet.
Saab 99, 1972 - the first car with “safety bars” in the doors (shown by arrows)
The next important element of “lateral” safety was the side airbags. Autoliv received a patent for them in the early 90s. And the first production car with such airbags for the driver and front passenger was the 1994 Volvo 850: seats with the SIPS (Side Impact Protection System) system were installed to order. Then, in 1998, in the BMW fifth and seventh series, inflatable “pipes” of the Head Protection System appeared, which “shot” from the roof slope and windshield pillars during a side impact, protecting the riders’ heads. But the “pipes” were soon replaced by security “curtains” - their protected area is much larger.
In addition, car bodies in the 21st century have become stronger thanks to computer simulation of crash tests, the use of high-strength steels and modern welding and adhesive methods. That is why it is imperative to wear seat belts in modern cars - after all, in the event of an accident, including a side one, the body, belts and airbags work as a single complex to protect the life and health of riders...
Options and prices
The Lada Priora 2022 configurations in the new body are presented in five versions. The prices of the new Lada Priora 2022 are influenced by the characteristics of the technical properties and the saturation of options. For example, the Standard costs only 294,000 rubles, but, of course, there is no rich equipment here.
The Lada Priora Coupe is, in fact, an ordinary hatchback without rear doors. Lada Priora Hatchback - three-door, front-wheel drive, class C. Sold in two versions - Luxury and Normal, cost 443,000/540,100 rubles.
The price for the Lada Priora Station Wagon starts from 446,600 rubles, according to technical data, it has eight options.
The designation “x” Lada Priora 2022 in model descriptions means that all versions have an x-concept in external design.
The Priora 2022 is equipped with gasoline power units, according to which the price is usually set:
- 1.6 lit. 8 valves (87 hp), 5 MT / Standard – 414,900 rub.
- 1.6 lit. 16 valves (106 hp), 5 MT / Norm - 463,600 rub.
- 1.6 lit. 16 valves (106 hp), 5 MT / Normal / Climate - 503,900 rub.
- 1.6 lit. 16 valves (106 hp), 5 MT / Comfort - 512,400 rub.
- 1.6 lit. 16 valves (106 hp), 5 MT / Image – 523,400 rub.
Several color options for the Lada Priora are available, the price for them is negotiated additionally.
Why did you choose the EMP2 platform for the Priora in the new body?
According to the source, the choice of a third-party platform was caused by the need to load the assembly plant in Kaluga. This site is jointly owned by Stellantis and Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi itself has recently been part of the Renault-Nissan concern. All this makes the partnership of the two corporations a completely logical move. Stellantis currently assembles commercial vehicles and outdated Peugeot 408 and Citroen C4 models at this car plant. Demand for the latter has dropped to almost zero. In order to revive production, fresh models are needed. This could be the relatively affordable Peugeot 2008 crossover, which is currently being imported to Russia. The model is based on the EMP2 platform. At the same time, mastering the production of cars on a new platform is quite risky. If you fail to achieve high sales figures, the project may turn out to be unprofitable. Russians have not been favoring French brands lately.
New Lada Priora NFR 2022 - side view
From the above, it becomes clear that the production of a model on a new breed platform by the well-known Lada brand in Russia can be a good safety net. Full-size sedans are in good demand in our country, subject to a reasonable pricing policy. Take, for example, the extremely successful Toyota Camry and Kia K5. The new Lada Priora should be in no way inferior to its competitors with a more humane price tag, which means we can fully count on stable demand. Moreover, the price of foreign cars has grown very much over the past year (by 20% only according to the RRP), and there are also markups from dealers.
At the same time, the reputation of the Lada brand has grown greatly in recent years. Successful models like Vesta have proven themselves to be very good. Even the Lada Granta, after a series of modernizations, has become significantly better in terms of consumer qualities. The release of a higher-class model, which should be the new Lada Priora NFR, seems to be a completely logical move in such a situation.

Is the interior of the Priora poor compared to Logan 1 and Volkswagen Polo?
Compared to its contemporaries in the same class, the 2170 was about the same level. All their shortcomings and minor mistakes were actively discussed. A comparison of the interiors proved that the car was almost on a par with Logan and Polo in “its” years. The maximum configurations were equipped differently, but did not make one interior better than the other.
The only thing worth noting is that its seat cushion is much stiffer than that of the two foreign cars. The interior itself is done in gray and black, so the final choice between these three cars is purely a matter of taste. There is no winner or loser, the interiors of these cars have slightly different styles.
Reviews and test drive
Most car owners leave positive reviews about the Lada Priora 2019. The main advantage is the very affordable cost of the car, inexpensive maintenance, and the availability of all necessary spare parts in auto stores.
Among the advantages of the car are noted:
- Durable, reliable body.
- Endurance of the motor and other technical equipment.
- Economical fuel consumption.
- Stylish exterior design.
- Optimal dynamic qualities and maneuverability.
And if you tune the Lada Priora hatchback, then such a car will give even a foreign car a head start on the road.
But, of course, the car is not perfect - there are also disadvantages:
- There are only two engines to choose from, and there is no diesel engine at all.
- There are only two trim levels – not much choice.
- The cabin is cramped and the rear seats are uncomfortable.
- The adjustability of the driver's seat is not very functional.
- The plastic trim is hard, brittle, fragile and creaks.
- Build quality is not the best.
Watching the video will help you get additional information about the car and draw your own conclusions.
The Lada Priora hatchback (VAZ 2172) replaced the VAZ 2112 model. Production of the car started at the Volzhsky Automobile Plant in February 2008 - about a year later than the Priora sedan. According to the automaker, more than 950 changes and over two thousand new parts were made to the design of the model, compared to its predecessor.
With all this, externally the Priora hatchback is not too much different from the “two-piece”. The car received more modern lighting technology, retouched bumpers, new fenders and a hood, but the car’s profile remained virtually unchanged.
Configurations and prices of Lada Priora hatchback 2015 / VAZ 2172
Equipment | Price | Engine | Box | Drive unit |
1.6 MT standard | 443 300 | gasoline 1.6 (106 hp) | mechanics (5) | front |
1.6 (98 hp) Norm MT | 454 300 | gasoline 1.6 (98 hp) | mechanics (5) | front |

1.6 Luxury AMT | 534 100 | gasoline 1.6 (106 hp) | robot (5) | front |
Of course, the dimensions of the car have not changed. The overall length of the five-door Priora is 4,210 mm (wheelbase - 2,492 mm), width - 1,680 mm, height - 1,435 mm, ground clearance (clearance) is 165 mm.
Thus, compared to the sedan, the Priora hatchback is 140 mm shorter and 15 mm higher. The trunk volume of the five-door is 70 liters less (360 liters versus 430 on the sedan). But if you fold the back of the rear sofa, its volume increases to a decent 705 liters.
Basic faults
The main problems that you may encounter when using the camera include:
- Pollution (especially off-season or winter). The roads are very dirty, and this is a fact - in addition to the fact that the bottom collects almost all the dirt from the ground, individual drops reach the video camera. So it’s worth wiping it before the trip, and if the trip itself is long, you’ll have to clean the device right before parking. Due to the dirt, the image will be cloudy, so you will have to park the old fashioned way.
- Incorrect connection - “dissonance” with parking sensors or lack of image. You will have to check all connections to ensure they match the wiring diagram.
- Mechanical damage to wires. Almost always, the most vulnerable parts of the wires need to be insulated, protecting them from the influence of moving parts. Take care of this by using electrical tape.
Technical characteristics of Lada Priora hatchback
As for the dimensions, the hatchback is 140 mm shorter than the sedan and 1.5 centimeters higher. The width and wheelbase of the cars are the same. As for wheel sizes, 14-inch wheels are standard on all Priors. The clearance of the Lada Priora hatchback is 165 mm. It is worth noting that the luggage compartment of the hatch is smaller than that of the sedan, however, with the rear seats folded down, the loading space almost doubles. Below are detailed dimensions and dimensions of the machine.

Tuning
As shown in the photo, the white Lada Priora hatchback is one of the cars that most successfully accepts the modernization of its appearance. Even a simple replacement of standard bumpers with restyled ones and tinting the windows gives the car individuality. However, the fantasies of car owners do not end there.
• Various types of body kits are used in the color of the Priora (pictured) hatchback white. Tuning bumpers and radiator grilles, installing a spoiler sometimes make a car completely unrecognizable, aggressive and impressive.
• Photo of a white Priora hatchback, tuning it in a retro style, can often be seen on the streets. Chrome-plated hubcaps in the style of the 50s of the last century and white rims on the wheels leave no one indifferent.
• The Lada Priora hatchback (pictured) is white, with red lighting at the bottom and looks very original.
• High-quality LEDs and eyelashes installed on a white Priora hatchback (photo below) will make the headlight tuning complete and the appearance seamless.
Options and price of Lada Priora hatchback
Currently, the Lada Priora hatchback has two main configurations: “Norma” and “Lux”. There are 7 “standard” versions and 3 “luxury” versions. There are two 16-valve engines to choose from and a host of options. The modern Priora has a set of all necessary functions, such as airbags, a multimedia system, power windows, a multimedia system with GLONASS navigation, climate control and cruise control. And the new interior is seriously different from what was offered before the restyling. The four-spoke steering wheel was replaced with a steering wheel of a different shape, and the buttons and switches are now pleasant to touch. Of course, I would like more comfortable seats and better quality fabric, but do not forget about the price of the Lada Priora hatchback , which is very affordable compared to foreign cars of this class.
The cheapest version of the Priora hatchback has a price of 369,700 rubles . This is the “norm” package5) with a 98 hp engine. The price of the most expensive Lada Priora hatch “luxury”6) is 464,500 rubles . For this money you get 4 airbags, ABS, BAS, ESC systems, electric power steering, all door lifts, alloy wheels, rain and light sensors, a multimedia system and even cruise control.
All current prices for the Priora hatchback in 2014 are slightly lower.
- “Norm” package5 1.6 liters (98 hp) – 369,700 rubles
- “Norm” package 5 1.6 liters (98 hp) – 380,400 rubles
- “Norm” package5 1.6 liters (106 hp) – 388,000 rubles
- “Norm” package5 1.6 liters (106 hp) – 388,000 rubles
- “Norm” package7 1.6 liters (98 hp) – 394,700 rubles
- “Norm” package 4 1.6 liters (98 hp) – 397,400 rubles

- Luxury package1 1.6 liters (106 hp) – 459,100 rubles
- Luxury package6 1.6 liters (98 hp) – 464,500 rubles
It is also worth noting that all configurations of the Lada Priora hatchback are several thousand rubles more expensive than the Lada Priora sedan.
Sport car
Very often, cars of the VAZ family are chosen as racing cars, especially for amateur competitions. One of the most suitable for these purposes is the white Priora hatchback. Pictures of sponsors advertising, riders' names and serial numbers are visible from afar on a white background.
Even the basic version of the car, the white Priora hatchback, features a sporty look. Tuning (photo below) will give it an aggressive and brutal look. Of course, a lot of work is required to upgrade the standard equipment to the racing version. But, as shown in the photo, the white Priora hatchback allows you to do it even in a garage, especially since there are no problems with purchasing components and spare parts for the Lada.
What can be done with the interior as tuning
When tuning a car, you can consider different options and choose the one you like best. There is even a separate direction of tuning, when the first Priora is equipped with parts from the restyled one, less often they do the opposite.
The first point of modernization of the interior of the VAZ-2170 can be called lighting and light:
- The interior light above the gearshift lever. It can be made a little brighter so that even the small print on documents can be seen at night.
- LED illumination of the ignition switch. In order to always hit the target without scratching the steering column, the target can be illuminated. It will not look “collective farm” - modern ready-made kits are made quite competently.
- Leg lighting. It looks impressive, and also helps you navigate the pedals the first time.
- The lighting installed inside the door card is directed downwards. You will need it when you open the door at night and put your foot on the ground. There may be a puddle below, and if it is illuminated, you will notice it in time, even if you are tired.
- Ashtray lighting. This is done, again, for yourself - to make it more convenient to turn on charging or powering the DVR.
- Changing the dashboard backlight or replacing it is possible.
Another favorite part of tuning the interior of a car is adding new, decorative seat covers. This is often done to add lateral support, which the car does not have, as well as enhanced lumbar support. In addition to the usual textile, throw-on and fastening covers, you can make custom upholstery - give it to a master atelier, who will work on each seat manually.
For reasons of practicality, Lada Priora owners add sound insulation everywhere. It’s much calmer to drive this way, especially over long distances – there’s no constant hum in the background. It is added under the door trim, as well as in the ceiling - all in order to ensure silence inside the cabin.
The last thing, one of my favorite things, is music. The sky is the limit: from the subwoofer under the trunk lid to the speakers inside the door card. The best sounding music in a car is a source of pride for the owner. Preference is given not to multimedia, but to the best custom radios.
Hatchback body features
The white Priora hatchback body (photo below) also has some features that I would like to mention separately. The advantages of this design:
• Capacious trunk. The white Priora hatchback (pictured is a rear view) allows you to increase it even more if you fold the rear seat flush with the floor. In addition, by opening the rear door slightly, you can transport fairly large items.
• As you can see in the photo, the white Priora hatchback has a stylish and slightly sporty look, aimed at young buyers. The rear part of the body, made with bevels, especially emphasizes this design. The appearance of the car greatly benefits due to this, despite the fact that the useful volume of the luggage compartment is reduced.
• Judging by the reviews of passengers, sitting in the back seat in a car with a hatchback body is much more convenient.
• The interior cabin is separated from the luggage compartment by a partition, which makes it much more comfortable.
• Having a compact design and streamlined shape, the white Priora (pictured), with a hatchback body, is suitable for maneuvers both in the city and on the highway. It behaves well when overtaking and changing gears.
The hatchback body design also has a disadvantage - the passenger compartment quickly cools down when the rear door is open in the cold season.
