Anyone who has driven long distances in freezing temperatures without working heating in their car knows how frustrating it can be. Making sure that the heater fan in a VAZ-2110 car is not working is quite simple and easy. All the driver needs to do for this is to start the car engine and, using the switching method, check whether a warm air flow is flowing into the cabin. The following points will indicate a faulty injector:

  • no warm air flow enters the cabin;
  • when switching modes, extraneous sounds are heard;
  • The device fan only runs at a certain speed.

If the car owner discovers the latest malfunction, then the cause of the breakdown must be looked for not only in the car fan, but also in the toggle switch or resistor.

For what reasons may the fan stop functioning?

If the car heater fan stops working, then several main causes of the malfunction should be analyzed. The fuse may have become unusable. It is a burnt-out part that most often damages the stove fan. And although replacing it is quite easy even for a car owner with little experience, this event is quite troublesome and time-consuming. This is explained by the fact that it is difficult to find the place where the short circuit occurred, because to do this you need to go through the entire heating system. It will not be superfluous to know that the protective fuse must be responsible for the operation of the following elements of the car:

  1. Glovebox.
  2. Cigarette lighter.
  3. The system responsible for heating the rear windows and mirrors.
  4. Headlight washer.

And this indicates that if it is not possible to detect a breakdown in the injector, then you will have to look through all the wires that feed the above elements.

Poor quality assembly of the internal parts of the main mounting block is also often the cause. It happens that the fan fails or poorly blows warm air into the cabin due to internal oxidation of the contacts, which occurs when the main unit of the car furnace is poorly assembled.

To make sure that the cause of the malfunction is oxidation, you need to move the device flagella along with the block to which they are attached with a little force. If during this manipulation the device begins, albeit weakly, but still to force warm air into the car interior, then to repair the fan it will be enough to remove the block, clean all the contacts and install it in its original place.

Principle of operation

The operating principle of such a control system is simple - the driver uses the left handle to set the desired temperature (completely cold or in the range from 16 to 28 degrees). Based on the set mode, the controller supplies power to the micromotor gearbox and it sets the dampers to the desired position. Two-way communication is used between these elements - a position sensor is installed on the gearbox, which “informs” the controller about the opening angle. Thanks to the installed temperature sensor (located on the ceiling), the controller constantly monitors the degree of heating of the air in the cabin, based on which it adjusts the position of the damper to maintain the temperature set by the driver.

Thanks to the use of automatic control system, the driver no longer needs to adjust the operation of the stove in order to maintain a comfortable temperature; he sets the temperature with a handle, and the controller does the rest. On the early VAZ-2110, the heater fan had three operating modes, the difference between which comes down to the rotation speed. Speed ​​adjustment is carried out by installing a rheostat block in the power supply circuit of the electric motor. Then models appeared in which the fan received a 4th operating mode - automatic. When it is turned on, the fan operates under the control of the controller - the ACS regulates the rotation speed of the electric motor to adjust the temperature in the cabin.

The use of electromechanical control on the VAZ-2110 increased the convenience of controlling interior heating, but due to the more complex design, the likelihood of stove failure increased.

Other Possible Causes

These include the following options:

  1. Liquid entering the car ignition relay. One effective piece of advice will help you find out that the fan is failing precisely because the relay is flooded. If a previously “stalled” fan began to function again as soon as the car engine had been running for 20-25 minutes, that is, after the vehicle had warmed up, then we can say with confidence that the cause of the malfunction is precisely the flooding. To get rid of this problem, it is necessary to replace the ignition system relay that has become unusable.
  2. If during testing it turns out that the fan operates only at one speed, namely the third, then you will need to check the serviceability of the additional resistor. This element supplies voltage directly to the fan only in the 3rd speed mode, so if the device cannot be started in the 1st and 2nd speed modes, this part will need to be replaced.
  3. The car heater fan may stop working due to a breakdown of the switch, which is responsible for the functioning of the entire heating system. To verify this, you need to remove the central part of the console, start the engine and, using a light bulb whose power does not exceed 12 V, equipped with connecting wires and a wire to “-”, close it to the car body. And with the second wire, check the operation of all three contacts that belong to the additional resistor. If during the test the light stays on, then the switch can be considered serviceable; otherwise, you will need to replace the fuse and check the integrity of the electrical circuit.

If all of the above failure options have been analyzed, but the VAZ-2110 stove fan still does not work, you need to check several additional reasons:

  • serviceability of the electric motor of the device;
  • check the motor contacts;
  • make sure that the brushes are not stuck or stuck on the main body.

Design features of the VAZ-2110 heater

The design of the ventilation and heating system for the interior of the 10 is significantly different from the cars of the Samara family. It is more complex and more effective. Firstly, there is no heater tap, i.e. the coolant, circulating in a large circle, constantly enters its radiator. Therefore, if the VAZ-2110 stove does not work, you should not immediately turn to the faucet and find it. The temperature of the air entering the cabin is regulated by a damper driven by an electronic micromotor, which is controlled manually using a special regulator, and also automatically by the vehicle controller.

When work on restoring the functionality of the MMR is completed, install it in place. For this:

  • Insert the pin of the micromotor-reducer lever into the slot of the lever. It is located on the damper drive;
  • If the lever is not turned properly, apply 12V voltage to the motor connector pins using two wires. We are talking about yellow wires here. This way you can return the lever to the correct position;
  • Having installed the micromotor-reducer, check it for operability, plus watch how the damper drive of your heater moves, whether the heater control lever “plows” properly to regulate the temperature.

We will repair or replace the damper and heater drive, you will be able to return the heater to its previous functionality and independently determine what temperature regime will be set inside the cabin of your VAZ 2110.

Let's figure out what kind of heater malfunctions we may have to deal with. Let us immediately note that if the VAZ-2110 stove does not work, this does not mean that its entire structure has immediately failed. Usually the cause of this is the breakdown of one of its elements. Before you begin diagnosing and searching for a possible problem, you need to clearly define for yourself exactly how the VAZ-2110 stove

: does not blow at all, blows cold air or blows slightly warm air. Based on these signs, it will be possible to conclude which of these elements has failed: a fan, a control unit, a damper, a thermostat, a heater radiator, or even a cabin filter.

Cold air: actuator or damper

If the VAZ-2110 stove does not work and cold air is blowing, first of all we check whether the drive is trying to change the position of the damper. To do this, turn on the ignition and rotate the position switch. In this case, you should hear whether the electric micromotor is running and whether the damper is moving. If nothing like this happens, you need to look for the problem in the switch itself, checking it for serviceability, or in the drive motor. In any case, you will have to dismantle the entire heater.

If you hear that the damper drive is working, but it does not change its position, most likely it is simply jammed. In the “tens” there may be two types of dampers: plastic and metal. And if the latter jam quite rarely, then for the plastic ones that were equipped with the first series of VAZ-2110, this is a common occurrence. The fact is that plastic is deformed under the influence of hot air, which, in fact, leads to jamming. To correct the situation, you will have to dismantle and disassemble the heater.

What's wrong with the fan

The first and most common reason why the VAZ-2110 stove does not work is the fan does not work. However, there may be several options here:

  • failed heater controller fuse;
  • malfunction of the mode switch on the control unit;
  • drive (electric motor) malfunction;
  • broken wiring.

Turn on the ignition and set the fan mode switch to any position except off. If at the same time you do not hear a characteristic hum and do not feel the movement of air from the deflectors, you can be sure: the reason that the VAZ-2110 stove is not working is that the heater fan is not working.

Checking the fuse

Let's start with the simplest. We lift the hood and find a mounting block there, and in it there is an F-18 fuse. It must be removed from the mounting socket and checked for suitability with a tester. There is another way to check, and it is much simpler. In the “ten”, this fuse is responsible for the safety of not only the heater controller, but also the glove compartment illumination lamp, as well as the cigarette lighter.

Turn on the ignition, open the glove compartment and look at the lamp. If it used to burn, but now it doesn’t, most likely the reason is the same why the VAZ-2110 stove does not work. Heater fan fuses are rated at 25 A. Please note this when replacing.

Most car owners can only check if the control unit is faulty by replacing it with a known-good unit. At the same time, they should know that the “tens” that are currently in use can have four types of control units. Their markings are as follows: 1303.3854, 1313.3854, 1333.3854, 1323.3854. The first three blocks are interchangeable and can be installed on heaters 2110-8101012 and 2110-8101012-01. But the latest control unit began to be installed in 2003 on the stove 2111-8101012. The cabin temperature sensor is not difficult to get from the installation site. There is a mini fan on it and if you put the control unit in the “MIN” (blue dot) or “MAX” (red dot) position, it should not rotate. You can also check the functionality of the stove by replacing it with a working sensor.

Other faults may be located only inside the heater and cannot be eliminated without partial or complete disassembly. This applies to the micro motor and its shaft position sensor, as well as two dampers that distribute the flow of cold and warm air. In addition, AVTOVAZ does not recommend repairing the heater yourself. Well, you probably already know about malfunctions of the cooling system, such as insufficient antifreeze level or failure of the thermostat , which affect the operation of the stove.

Key options for modernizing heating in the VAZ-2111

To keep the driver's feet warm, as provided in foreign cars, the VAZ-2111 needs to be modernized. Oddly enough, the uniform distribution of heat in the cabin affects the handling of the car. The heater does not operate comfortably enough for the driver due to the plastic block that distributes the air.

You've probably heard the term "herringbone" from other car enthusiasts - that's what this block is called, and all because it initially has slots.

The repair procedure is as follows:

  • you should start by dismantling the torpedo, carefully disassemble it part by part;
  • Having reached the blower pipes, seal the cracks on the panel; as an option, experts recommend installing a new sample of corrugated hose;
  • ideally, one corrugated hose is not enough, so additionally seal the panel;
  • What is the best means to cover the cracks, the service station workers suggested - the best for the VAZ-2111 is considered to be “Anti-creak”, which is used to treat all holes with fasteners without exception.

Next, start upgrading the damper of the VAZ-2111 furnace. When the car is assembled at the factory, the pressure of the damper to the panel body is weak, as a result we get a loss of heat, it feels like the stove is not working at full capacity. To get rid of this defect, repeat these steps:

  1. Remove the damper and remove the standard seal. Place the seal in all cracks and valves; this option will not allow the warm air flow to be lost on the way to the cabin. The standard sponge is usually replaced with Bitoplast 10 to ensure complete sealing of several layers - this is quite enough.
  2. If you notice that some of the heat is lost, moving towards the glass from the side where the driver is, cover the gap with ordinary construction foam; a nice bonus after this procedure is that the creaking will disappear.
  3. To keep the passengers' feet warm in the VAZ-2111, it won't hurt to upgrade the air ducts with your own hands. The heat inside the car forms a block, in which most often there is a large gap by default. Insert the corrugated hose, you will soon see that the air flow will become more intense and hotter.
  4. If you want to further improve the operation of the stove in the VAZ-2111, then remove the standard air distributor. Then place high-quality corrugation in it. Fastening is carried out to the panel device using mounting foam. Focus on a pipe diameter of 40 mm.
  5. If all this work is done, you will end up with several corrugations at once - one will provide warming to the driver’s feet, the rest will conduct a warm air flow to the passengers’ feet.

Checking the resistance resistor

The stove resistor has 2 spirals, the resistance of the 1st is 0.23 Ohms, and the 2nd is 0.82 Ohms. When both are activated, the heater electric motor operates at the first speed, but if the resistor operates at the first spiral, then the 2nd speed is activated. At the third, maximum fan speed, when the resistor is not used. When the electric motor is turned on without a resistor, the fan rotor rotates at the maximum 3rd speed.

In addition to the above malfunctions, the stove may also not work due to a low level of antifreeze, air in the cooling system, or a non-working thermostat or pump.

We are replacing the speed sensor

If the reason turns out to be the sensor, then you can replace it yourself. This can be done with a little experience with the operation of electrical appliances. Procedure:

  1. Be sure to wear rubber gloves, since de-energizing the on-board system of the machine can cause unpleasant sensations.
  2. Then you need to detect the sensor. As a rule, on a “tenth” generation car, the mechanism is located between the drive and the tip of the flexible shaft.
  3. Having found the device, it is necessary to disconnect the block with the wire by removing all spring clips.
  4. Next, use a 22 key to unscrew the mechanism from the drive.
  5. At this point the work is almost finished, but only a little remains. Next, the new device is installed. This is done simply, but the main thing is to get the sensor rod into the center of the drive. Then you need to tighten all the components in the reverse order, secure them and begin checking the new mechanism.

Adjusting the automatic control system

To check the functionality of the device, you should take a mercury thermometer and place it near the temperature sensor. After this, you need to activate the stove controller and set the fan control knob to position “A”. The automatic control system should be carefully adjusted only if after 15–20 minutes the temperature is more than two degrees below the data from the sensor.

In order for the self-propelled gun to work better, you will have to pull it out and then turn the knob located on the left side of the controller several times. You can increase the temperature by turning the knob clockwise, and decrease it by turning it counterclockwise.

After all the manipulations carried out, you will need to check the functionality of the heating device again and, if necessary, repeat it all over again.
