The Lada Granta is a budget front-wheel drive car that was developed on the basis of the Lada Kalina. Sales of the car began at the end of December 2011. Currently, 5 types of engines are installed on Lada Granta/Kalina 2:

- VAZ-21127 (106 hp)

About modern VAZ engines
The manufacturer offers a choice of two 8 valve engines :
- VAZ-11183-50 (82 hp) is a modified VAZ-2111 engine, as a result of which environmental performance has increased, the engine has become more reliable and less capricious. It also has the advantage of elasticity and traction. Disadvantages include periodic valve adjustments and noisy engine operation. If the timing belt breaks, the valve does not bend.
- VAZ-11186 (87 hp) is a modified VAZ-21114 engine, as a result of which it was possible to reduce noise and gasoline consumption. Environmental friendliness has improved and power has increased noticeably. Disadvantages: compared to the VAZ-11183, this engine has a shorter service life. When the timing belt breaks, the valves bend.
16 valve engines :
- VAZ-21126 (98 hp) is a continuation of the VAZ-21124 engine and is currently one of the most advanced domestic engines. Disadvantage: valve bends when the timing belt breaks.
- VAZ-21127 (106 hp) is a modified VAZ-21126 engine. In comparison, the engine has become more torquey at the bottom, the changes are minor, but noticeable. The disadvantages include bending of the valves when the timing belt breaks.
Clearance and its purpose
Ground clearance is the distance between the road surface and the lowest point of the car located on its body part. It is called ground clearance. The amount of such clearance depends on the car model and its purpose. In addition, this indicator is influenced by the body manufacturing option. Currently, there are several main body types of passenger cars:
- sedan;
- station wagon;
- hatchback;
- crossover;
- SUV.
If for a sedan, station wagon and hatchback this distance varies in a small range from 150 to 170 mm, which allows them to be used mainly in city conditions, then crossovers and SUVs have significantly greater ground clearance. This quality allows them to be used on roads with large holes, bumps and ditches. And with all-wheel drive, SUVs can overcome any off-road conditions.
Depending on the ground clearance, the driving style is selected
The driving style used by the driver should also depend on the ground clearance of the car. If the ground clearance is large, you need to accelerate the car very carefully, especially on winding sections of the highway. If you ignore this recommendation, you may drop the car on its side when performing the maneuver.
With a low clearance, the car handles well at high speeds and behaves predictably. This reduces the risk of an accident. In addition, modern vehicles have good aerodynamic properties. Therefore, with a large increase in speed, their body is pressed more tightly to the ground, which reduces ground clearance. This characteristic is inherent in sedans and hatchbacks.

Car interior
Inside the Granta Sport, the new seats immediately catch your eye. When creating them, a standard grant frame with a modified form is used. There is a red thread on the steering wheel, handbrake and gearbox. The upholstery is made of leatherette. As practice shows, in car showrooms, high-quality leather retains its appearance longer than real leather.
The center console is represented by a touch screen, the diagonal of the monitor is 7 inches. Below it is the air conditioning control panel. The front windows roll down automatically. The rear ones, in turn, do not have electric drives.
The safety of the car will be ensured by a pair of airbags. The front seat belts on the Granta Sport are height-adjustable, so a person of any height can adjust the seat belt to their anthropometric data. The windshield and rear windows are heated.

Comparing the sports version of the Granta, we immediately note the enlarged wheels (the diameter of the rims is 16 inches), shod with Yokohama tires (this is the company chosen by USA representatives). Granta Sport tire size is 195/50 R16. Behind the rear wheel discs you can see the brake discs (rear – 135 mm in diameter, front – 200 mm). The regular model has drum brakes.
The distinctive new fiberglass bumpers feature an updated shape. External differences from the regular Granta model include a new spoiler, sills, and lower trim made of unpainted plastic.

Internal dimensions of Lada Granta

For the stylish Lada Granta, the overall dimensions inside are really well thought out and allow all passengers and the driver to spend even long trips with maximum comfort.
The height from the junction of the seat and backrest is 910 mm for the second row and 990 for the front seats. The seat widths are 49 cm and 51 cm respectively. The distance from the second row seat to the first varies from 12 to 33.5 cm, which allows passengers to sit comfortably in the seats.
The height of the seats relative to the floor of the cabin for the second row is 34 cm, and for the first 28.5 cm (subject to slight adjustment). The distance from the pedals to the edge of the seat can be from 33.5 to 56 cm.
The trunk dimensions are another advantage of the Granta. The width of the compartment is 135 cm, but the width of the opening is much smaller (95 cm), which must be taken into account when loading the car. The depth of the trunk is 1 m and 2.5 cm. Its height is as much as 60 cm, which allows you to transport even a variety of household appliances without any problems.
The steering wheel parameters will certainly be of interest to the future driver. The width of the front pillar is 4 cm, but the diameter of the steering wheel is 37.5 cm. This arrangement is very convenient and allows you to easily drive the Grant. In addition, all other characteristics allow for comfortable trips on any route, with any load in the trunk and any number of passengers.
Characteristics of the Lada Granta interior
The interior is typical for a budget car. The gray plastic of the dashboard doesn't even try to seem soft. There is nothing superfluous on the dashboard - a speedometer, a tachometer, a scattering of pentagrams and a trip computer screen. It is simple and informative. The same can be said about the “twists” who manage the operation of the stove and air conditioner. The only thing that stands out on the front panel is the screen of the multimedia system equipped with a touchpad. It has good performance, but mediocre brightness: when exposed to sunlight, it becomes impossible to read data from the screen.

But the rear passengers have practically nothing except seats and a roof over their heads - no ashtray, no USB connector, no niches in the rear doors where they could put anything, only pockets on the backs of the front seats. However, this is normal for a budget car.
Lada Granta - dimensions, ground clearance
The entire Lada Granta family is class B in size. If we talk about the sedan, the length of the Lada Granta sedan is 4.26 m, the width reaches 1.7 m, and the height is 1.5 m. The liftback has a length even smaller - 4.246 m, height and width remained unchanged. The wheelbase of both cars is the same: 2.476 m. The front track of the car is larger than the rear: 1.43 m versus 1.414 m. The clearance of the Lada Granta when fully loaded reaches 16 cm. As for the curb weight, it is 1.075 tons (for the liftback - 1.085 t.), and the total is 1.56 t. for both cars.
Naturally, the trunk volume of Lada Grants also varies. Oddly enough, the sedan has more - 480 hp, which is 40 hp. more liftback indicators. However, everything changes if you fold the seats: then the volume increases to 760 liters. All cars in the family are front-wheel drive, with a transverse engine. The steering is a classic rack and pinion design. The front suspension is independent, made according to the MacPherson pattern. The rear design is simpler - spring, semi-independent. The front brakes are disc brakes, with ventilation, and the rear brakes are traditional for budget VAZs - drum brakes. The gas tank of all cars is the same - 50 liters.
New body design
The Russian automaker sought to create a modern car. What has changed in the Grant liftback in the new body, and what has remained unchanged:
- Despite the outdated optics without diode devices, the car looks stylish.
- There are recesses in the bumper on which fog lights are installed (only for expensive equipment).
- The exterior of the new body is simple, there are no complex surfaces.
- The color scheme of the bumper of the expensive version matches the color of the body. Its lower part is equipped with a small air intake.
- The rear of Grant's car is decorated with large lights. The tailgate has recesses that visually continue the installed lights.
The dimensions of the rear bumper are very different from the front. At the same time, Granta in the new body has small wheel arches.
From the outside the car looks reliable. You don’t have to pay much for its maintenance, since Granta is produced by a domestic manufacturer. All necessary spare parts can be purchased at a low price.

Serial production started on May 16, 2011. Sales began at the end of December 2011.
On May 16, 2011, assembly of Lada Granta cars began in test mode on the AvtoVAZ assembly line. Serial production of the new product began in October 2011. Conclusion about the salon
The car's interior has not become much more modern, but the appearance of leather upholstery and original red stitching gives the car a special style. If we consider the Granta Sport Active Drive, reviews indicate the presence of comfortable, but at the same time, slightly hard seats.
In addition, the car does not have a very good view of the road through the mirrors. For its price, the car has a wonderful interior.
