Lada Granta 2022 in four bodies at once: liftback, hatchback, station wagon and sedan


A large-scale update of the model range carried out by AvtoVAZ has led to the appearance of the 2022 Lada Grant in four body styles: liftback, hatchback, station wagon and sedan. Because of this, the Russian model competes with Renault Sandero and Logan, Ravon R2 and R3. Moreover, Granta recently received a sports modification, Drive Active. The Russian model comes with 3 engines and the same number of gearboxes. The initial versions of the car are not rich in equipment: ABS with EBD, 1 airbag and audio preparation. More expensive versions include air conditioning, central locking, heated front seats, fog lights and other equipment. At the same time, Granta is offered with the same configurations in all its existing bodies.

LADA Granta FL engines: features and disadvantages

The new Lada Granta LF liftback received two engine versions: 1.6 liters. 8-valve VAZ-11186 and 1.6 l. 16-valve VAZ-21127. In 2021, a new version of the power unit was released - 1.6 liters. 8-valve VAZ-11182. Very soon Lada Granta FL with updated engines will appear on the market.

Power units work in tandem with a transmission. On the Lada Granta FL it is represented by mechanics, a robot and a 4-speed Japanese. Let's figure out what features each power unit installed on the model has.

Let's move on to comparing the configurations and costs

Note that Priora is the only model in the domestic production field, produced in 4 body versions: sedan, hatchback, station wagon and especially coupe.

For fans of station wagons, Priora is a monopolist.

Granta does not have the specified body type, but can please its buyer with a sedan and a liftback. The sport option is positioned separately.

In terms of equipment, two versions are available for the Priora: “Norma” and “Lux”. The difference between Granta, in addition to the two indicated, is the presence of the “Spartan” variation “Standard”.

Interestingly, the inexpensive equipment options of the Priora have enviably greater potential than that of the Granta. And their price is significantly higher.

If we touch on the “Luxury” version, then it is almost identical for both models considered here.

16 valve engine

This is a more technically advanced brother of the 8-valve. In fact, it represents a deep modernization of the VAZ-21126 engine. The model received an intake receiver of variable length, due to which its power increased from 98 hp. up to 106 hp

Advantages of a 16-valve engine

If you tune the version with 16 valves, you can reduce the acceleration time of the car to 9 seconds. This is ideal for highways where speeds exceed 100 km/h. At these speeds, the 16-valve model feels more confident in handling.

The design of the internal combustion engine includes hydraulic compensators, which save the machine from zero maintenance with valve adjustment. There is a groove in the engine, so there is no need to be afraid that the valves will be bent.

Disadvantages of the 16-valve engine:

In terms of torque, the 16-valve version is inferior to the 8-valve version. To spin the engine to 148 N*m, you will need more than 4000 rpm.

Among the design flaws, it is worth mentioning the problem of spark plug wells sweating with a mileage of 10,000 km or more. Oil begins to drip inside. This is due to the use of sealant rather than gasket as a seal.

Exterior comparison

Traditionally, we start with the appearance. We look at the galaxy of options that are offered by the manufacturer’s design workshop. The Priora immediately evokes associations with a classic sedan, which slightly reveals the similarity of its lines with its predecessor. The body shape is more suited to the definition of “traditional” rather than “modern”.

Even despite the restyling performed in 2014, the body cannot be called revolutionary changed. The designers “made the Priora happy” with new headlights, bumpers and rear dimensions. The exterior has improved, but not significantly, although reviews from most owners of the new product are positive.

Much more significant changes have already been noticed in the interior. Just think about the use of materials from the “soft-look” line alone, thanks to which the interior acquired a richer look. But the previous problems did not go away, including the small size of the driver's seat cushion. The difference between the Granta is the larger amount of space inside the cabin. Only the plastic of the dashboard, which is not of the best quality, can spoil the picture.

The exterior should be noted separately. It is quite modern and not without its own style. The car body will delight you with its sweeping lines and graceful contours. From a distance, the model is indistinguishable from an expensive foreign car.

In this discipline, Grants had more advantages, but this is not a fact that this particular model is better.

What are the owners thinking?

As a separate point, I would like to dwell on the reviews of owners aimed at comparing Grants and Priora. Such battles often flare up on online forums.

Most “couch” critics prefer Granta, although they immediately “roll back”, afraid of its novelty. In terms of technical aspects, the cars are almost identical, and in terms of exterior, the palm is deservedly “on the hood” of the Grants.

There is also a category of opponents who defend the Priora’s position, citing the reliability of the car.

But there is also a caste of third parties who compare the purchase of a VAZ model to playing a lottery, i.e., if you are lucky and get a successful car, then you enjoy the operation. When fortune turns, no modifications can correct the situation. It’s just impossible to understand what to choose for yourself: LADA Granta or LADA Priora?

(No. 27) Which engine on the Grant is better to choose?

I think it’s no secret that the Lada Granta is available with 4 different types of engines. And each power unit of this car has both its advantages and disadvantages. And many owners who want to buy a Grant do not know which engine to choose and which of these engines will be better for them. Below we will consider the main types of power units that are installed on this car.

VAZ 11183 - stands on the Grant “standard”

This engine was inherited by the car from its predecessor, Kalina. The simplest 8-valve with a volume of 1.6 liters. There’s not much power, but there certainly won’t be any discomfort while driving. This engine, however, is the most torquey of all and pulls like a diesel at the bottom!

The biggest advantage of this engine is that it has a very reliable timing system and even if the timing belt breaks, the valves will not collide with the pistons, which means that you can simply change the belt (even on the road), and you can drive on. This engine is the easiest to maintain, since its design is completely identical to the well-known unit from 2108, only with an increased volume.

If you want to avoid problems with repair and maintenance, and not be afraid that the valves will bend if the belt breaks, then this choice is for you.

VAZ 21116 - set to “norm” on Grant

This engine can be called a modernized version of the previous 114, and the only difference between it and its predecessor is the installed lightweight connecting rod and piston group. That is, the pistons began to be made lighter, but this led to a number of negative consequences: Firstly, now there is no room left for the recesses in the pistons, and if the timing belt breaks, the valve will bend 100%. The second, even more negative point. Due to the fact that the pistons have become thin, when they meet the valves, they break into pieces and in 80% of cases they also have to be replaced. There were many cases when almost all the valves and a couple of pistons with connecting rods had to be changed on such an engine. And if you calculate the entire amount that will have to be paid for repairs, then in most cases it can exceed half the cost of the power unit itself.

But in terms of dynamics, this engine outperforms a conventional 8-valve engine due to the lightweight internal combustion engine parts. And the power is about 87 hp, which is 6 horsepower more than the 21114. By the way, it works much quieter, which cannot be ignored.

VAZ 21126 and 21127 - on Grants in the “luxury” configuration

Everything is clear with the 21126 engine, since it has been installed on Prioras for many years. Its volume is 1.6 liters and 16 valves in the cylinder head. The disadvantages are the same as the previous option - collision of pistons with valves in the event of a belt break. But there is more than enough power here - 98 hp. according to the passport, but in reality, bench tests show a slightly better result.

21127 is a new (pictured above) improved engine producing 106 horsepower. Here this is achieved thanks to a modified, larger receiver. Also, one of the distinctive features of this engine is the absence of a mass air flow sensor - and now instead of it there will be a DBP - the so-called absolute pressure sensor.

Judging by the reviews of many owners of Grants and Kalina 2, which have already had this power unit installed, the power in it has actually increased and this is felt, especially at low speeds. Although, practically no elasticity has been added and in higher gears the acceleration does not occur as quickly as we would like.

Appearance

As you can see in the photo, most of the car's design remained untouched. However, the new body also boasts some improvements, thanks to which the car will become both more attractive and more functional. The most changes can be found on the front of the car. As before, it is located at a low height and has medium dimensions. There is also a tilt, which allows any driver to feel comfortable behind the wheel and perfectly assess the situation on the road. The increase in the amount of relief immediately catches the eye. Already on the hood you can find several smooth transitions in height, which are located on the side parts of the lid. As before, the main part of the bumper is decorated with an X-shaped air intake, inside of which all the parts are made of plastic and painted black. Only in the center the perimeter of this structure is distinguished by chrome trim, as well as the Lada brand badge. On the sides, the air intake is decorated with massive headlights, which take on an even more aggressive shape and are located at a large angle. Unfortunately, they will still have only halogen filling in any configuration. There is now a little more relief here, thanks to which the bumper has a brighter appearance.

The body kit has also changed a bit. It has been replenished with some relief, which is distributed over its entire area, and also includes a long air intake made in the form of a strip. In the center there is a grille that improves the cooling of the engine compartment, and on the sides you can see small round fog lights. There is also a much larger variety of sensors for electronic assistants.

The car's profile has undergone virtually no major changes. Still here you can find a bunch of wavy relief, concentrated mainly on the doors. The main detail here is a wide strip of windows, which will now be framed by a slightly wider line, painted in gloss black. The dividing posts are also painted in the same color, and they have also become somewhat wider. The rear view mirrors have slightly increased in size and also acquired a more triangular shape. Now in the database they will be able to boast of the presence of turn signals, as well as a handle painted black. Further, the body is decorated with a slightly protruding strip located approximately in the center of the doors, which is painted either in the color of the car or finished with unpainted plastic, as well as slightly inflated wheel arches.

A little more transformation can be found by looking at the rear of the car. It is located slightly higher than before the update, and has also become somewhat shorter. The trunk lid was replenished with a small protrusion located at the very end, and also received an abundance of relief. Next you can see large chrome plated nameplates, bright marker signals placed on the sides of the door, and stylish height transitions. A lot of space is allocated here for body kit, but it cannot boast of an abundance of decor. Here you can only find a black diffuser and sensors.

Pros and cons of the new grant for me personally

Let's keep it short and to the point. For myself, I identified the following “+” machines and “-“

Slightly subjective advantages:

+ Light, many people cursed at it, but in comparison with the top ten it’s just heaven and earth, the light is gorgeous. + The rear doors open very wide, almost 90° versus about 45° on the VAZ 2110 + There are at least a couple of cup holders

— The box was still humming, even stronger than on my 2005 10. — The seats are uncomfortable, you sit as if on a stool - they are very hard, due to too pronounced lumbar support, the shoulders do not touch the back, there is lateral support, but it is of no use at night, I dangle in it like a pencil in a glass. The same poor frame from the eight, it was still crap in the mid-80s, but in modern realities it is generally rare crap. — Lack of a courtesy lamp for the rear row (on the Priora, and there was one on 10) — Very small glove compartment, A4 sheets won’t fit. — The steering wheel is very light, and if a child can turn it on the spot with one little finger, which is very convenient, then at speed nothing changes and you need to be very careful so as not to accidentally jerk the steering wheel and fly into a ditch.

Slightly subjective cons:

— Lack of an armrest (I had to buy it separately) — Lack of eyeglass case (I had it on the pre-restyling Grant, but now it’s jammed
