When driving on gravel or a wet road, you get the feeling that your feet will be drenched in water, and when it rains, you get the feeling that there is a metal basin above you instead of a roof. The design of the window lifts is not well thought out, the windows do not open all the way, which is especially inconvenient when paying for parking or opening the barrier when entering a parking lot.
The noise level of the gearbox is quite high, however, this is typical for all VAZ models. The size of the digital information displayed on the on-board computer display is insufficient, you have to strain to read the values, this distracts attention from the road. Other minor shortcomings can be easily tolerated.
The Lada Granta liftback, conceived by AvtoVAZ designers as a budget family car, almost meets the ideal combination of price-quality criteria. This is certainly a step forward for the Russian automobile industry. The car has fairly good technical characteristics, high passive safety, is economical, has a stylish modern design and a very comfortable interior.

The Lada Granta model range was launched in May 2011, when mass production began. It was assumed that this would be a budget car for a wide range of Russians, capable of replacing the “classic” and “Samara”. AvtoVAZ mastered sedan, hatchback and sport models. In March 2013, a new modification of the Granta with a liftback body, the VAZ 2191, was presented.
Options affecting the characteristics of the Lada Granta car
Speaking about the technical characteristics of the Lada Granta, I would like to talk separately about the existing option packages that the car plant offers for each model variant. There is truly room for activity. From the most minimal to the most luxurious, including climate control, parking sensors with a rear view camera, and a multimedia system with an on-board computer.
Technical characteristics of the car
The five-door Granta model with a liftback body absorbed the best qualities of its classmates, retaining the strong body of a sedan and the large trunk volume of a hatchback. At the same time, she has a swift, dynamic appearance. To enhance the strength of the body, additional stiffening ribs were used, located between the trunk floor and the wheel arches, and the thickness of the floor and side members was also increased. The raised window line, sloping roof and new body kit, front and rear bumpers added originality to the design. Improved aerodynamics of the car made it possible to reduce hydrodynamic resistance, reduce fuel consumption and eliminate contamination of the rear window.
The Granta liftback is available in standard, classic, comfort and luxury trim levels. To designate a particular configuration, indices are added to the main model number. For example, VAZ 219110 is standard, VAZ 219170 is classic start, and so on.

Since the release of the first batch of Lada Granta liftback, several crash tests have been carried out. The first one was made in the Czech Republic with one airbag, the result was 8.4 points out of 16. Not bad for a car in this class, considering the performance of such cars as Hyundai Solaris (8.5 points), Hyundai Accent (8.9 points), Chevrolet Lanos (8.1 points) and Fiat Albea (7.5 points). The geometric dimensions of the passenger compartment remained almost unchanged upon impact, and the driver, if this had happened, would not have received any damage other than fright.
Assessing the handling of the liftback, we can state: thanks to the improved aerodynamic shape, roll in corners has decreased, although only slightly, the car has better road holding.
Design
Exterior
The main innovations of the Lada Granta Liftback 2022 affected its appearance. The new product is designed in the X-style common to this version of this modification, which was borrowed from the popular Lada Vesta. From this car Granta received an updated front bumper with chrome X-inserts, like the Vesta. Therefore, at a quick glance at the front of the car, it can often be easily confused with Vesta. Also, more stylish seats for fog lights appeared on the bumper. The air intakes have acquired a different and more modern form.
From the side, the car remained completely the same as the previous liftback. The only thing is that now it is mandatory to install door moldings painted in body color on all cars. Among the representatives of the first version, there were sometimes cars that were not equipped with this part from the factory.
An interesting feature of the Lada Granta in this body are the updated side mirrors, which in all trim levels are now equipped with turn signal repeaters. Previously, this option was available only in top versions. In addition, according to the manufacturer, now the mirror lenses should become less dirty. But at the same time, the owners of such cars, who also happened to drive the previous version of the liftback, do not notice any significant changes.
The Granta Liftback has also changed somewhat at the rear. They began installing a more compact bumper painted in the body color, at the bottom of which there is a black diffuser trim, giving the car a slightly aggressive look. The taillights have become slightly smaller, but the shape is not too different from the previous ones.
It is noteworthy that with the release of the updated modification, the manufacturer did not install a rear wiper on cars in the “Standard” configuration. The factory claims that due to the shape of the trunk, water and dirt drain from it perfectly. True, more expensive versions are still equipped with this part, as before.
Interior
The interior of the new Lada Granta Liftback 2022 has received some changes, also borrowed from Vesta. This made it more stylish, modern and youthful.
Security and Multimedia
The car received virtually no new security systems. In this regard, it differs from its previous version only in that the top trim levels are now equipped with climate control, cruise control, traction control and stability control, as well as some other functions to ensure additional safety. In addition, some trim levels are equipped from the factory with rear parking sensors. Also, according to current Russian legislation, the GLONASS system is now installed on all Lada Granta Liftback 2022.
As before, in maximum versions the car can be equipped with four speakers and a multimedia audio system. At the same time, the basic versions are equipped only with a simple radio or even have audio preparation.
“Music” in Grant works quite well, but this is clearly not enough for a true music lover. True, the car has excellent capabilities for independent modification. Therefore, for those who value good quality sound, it is quite possible to take a liftback in the minimum configuration, and then independently choose an audio system to suit your taste.
Salon
The first thing you notice in the interior of the new liftback is the X-shaped inserts on the dashboard, which correspond to the general updated concept inherited by Grant from Vesta. Also an interesting and stylish innovation were rectangular deflectors, which are now being installed instead of the obsolete round ones. At the same time, the dashboard itself remained the same, the same as it was once installed on the Kalina. The car function control buttons are located mainly under the audio system. Some car owners find this arrangement a little inconvenient. An interesting new feature was the white backlighting of the dashboard, which replaced the boring and outdated green one for many.
Granta Liftbek seats, according to the manufacturer, have now become more convenient and comfortable. The driver and passenger seats have lateral support, as well as wide headrests. In maximum versions, electronic control functions and heating are available. At the same time, in the basic configurations, everything has to be adjusted manually, as before. In addition, new seat upholstery has made the interior more comfortable. But the feeling of being in an inexpensive and budget car, as before, has not gone away.
Features of external and internal design
VAZ 2191 is the first car with a liftback body from AvtoVAZ, and one cannot help but note a very successful debut. The appearance is much more attractive than the sedan; the more rapid lines do not deprive the car of its elegance. New front and rear bumpers, painted in body color, have a stylish design and give the car a modern look. The liftback body has less hydrodynamic resistance than its counterparts. The clever shape of the sloping roof prevents splashing on the rear window, cleaning it with air flow. New limiters on the front doors with a fine-tuning effect, which allows you to close the doors securely and easily without effort or slamming. One of the significant advantages of this car, rightfully called a family car, is the presence of a large trunk, the volume of which is 440 liters.
Options and prices
Lada Granta Liftback 2022 is offered in car dealerships across the country at a price starting from 421,000 rubles. This is how much you will have to pay for a vehicle in the most minimal “Standard” configuration without installing additional equipment. The car in the maximum luxury version with automatic transmission will cost at least 649,000 rubles. And for a Granta with a robot you will have to pay at least 561,000 rubles. The cars are also sold in “Comfort” and “Club” versions. When purchasing at a car dealership, those interested will be able to purchase branded R15 alloy wheels for an additional fee, which are available from the factory only in the maximum configuration. You can also order all sorts of additional options or tuning elements, for which you will have to pay separately. But the price of such “extras” in most salons is relatively low. However, you can install them after purchase, either at a dealership or on your own.
Thus, the Granta in the liftback body in the new version still remains one of the cheapest cars on the Russian market. At the same time, most LADA car dealerships constantly delight their customers with various promotions and discounts, as well as favorable credit conditions and trade-ins, which allows you to buy a new car very inexpensively. Therefore, there is no doubt that the stylish and noticeable updated liftback will definitely find its buyer. The car will appeal to both young novice drivers, girls and even experienced drivers.
Despite the fact that this car is quite simple and inexpensive, it has an interesting appearance, a large trunk and pretty good safety and maneuverability for the money. Despite the fact that some skeptics strongly doubt its reliability, and there were not as many innovations as we would like, the first sales already showed that the car was liked by numerous categories of Russian citizens. Most likely, its sales will only grow further. After all, the Granta Liftback 2019 is assembled quite well, many of the significant shortcomings of the previous version have been eliminated, and the service is quite affordable even for residents of the domestic outback. In addition, it has excellent capabilities for independent tuning and modifications, which will appeal to young people and those who prefer to stand out on the road. Of course, it’s too early to talk about the quality of this car, but I sincerely want to believe that everything is not as bad as AvtoVAZ’s ardent opponents say.
