How to open the door if the car lock is jammed?
What should you do if the car doors are locked and the key is either in the car itself or in the trunk, and the spare key is far away?
How to open a car door if the lock is jammed? Quite a lot of people find themselves in a similar situation, and most often at the most inopportune moment. Although might the moment be right in such a situation? It is because of this that, even if you have a spare set, it will never be superfluous to know how to open the car if you don’t have the key in your hands. It is clear that this applies only to those who find themselves in an unexpected situation, and not to car lock burglars. They are already capable of breaking the lock, from which you can only protect yourself with an alarm. Since the car is your property, you, of course, are not afraid of the alarm - you have one main task, namely to open the door without much loss of money and time. There is no need to panic, the car door is very easy to open even without a key.
So how to open the door if the lock is jammed? From the very beginning, you should stop panicking and rush from one extreme to another - don’t break the glass, leave it as a last resort. Initially, try or analyze several ways in which you can minimize risks and choose the appropriate one.
How to open a locked door if the card cannot be removed (there is no access to the screws)
Removing the card with difficult access to the bottom screws
Often, access to the lower or side fastenings to remove the door trim is prevented by a threshold or seat. This applies to cars where the door card is additionally held on by several screws from below, near the threshold.
If access to them from the passenger compartment is maintained, you can get there by moving the seat back and forth and unscrewing the screws with the shortest screwdriver. If the rear door handle is broken and the sofa overlaps several fastening elements of the card, it will have to be folded back or removed. It may also be necessary to bend or remove the seal.
Partial card removal to access the lock
On some cars, the lower fastening screws of the door card, when closed, are blocked by the threshold and cannot be reached, even if you remove the door seal from the passenger compartment. Then you need to try to tear it off the door at least partially.
If you cannot remove the card completely, you will have to act extremely carefully, trying to bend the casing only from the side of the lock. You need:
- Unscrew all accessible fasteners on top of the card and unclip the clips.
- Move the door card from above to create a gap between it and the door.
- Penetrate (with your hand or a foreign object) into the gap to the cables/rods and act on the unlocking rod, cable or tongue.
After the lock opens, it will be possible to normally disassemble everything completely without the risk of breaking it and gain access to the internal parts of the door for repair or replacement.

How to open a locked front door on a Chinese car
In most cases, the reciprocal U-shaped lock bracket is installed on the rack in the direction of travel with the upper part (“shelf” of the letter U forward). But on some models this bracket is perpendicular (the “shelf” looks out to the side) and its mountings can be accessed from the passenger compartment by removing the B-pillar trim. If your car is one of these, you can:
- Remove the upholstery of the rack on which the bracket is installed.
- Through the hole in the rack, get to the screws that secure the bracket.
- Drill out the screws or force them out, for example using a broken bolt extractor.
- Once the screws are no longer holding the bracket, the door will open and you can gain access for normal repairs.
Method 1. Additional set of keys
If you have a second set of keys, you can simply open the door by ringing or asking someone to bring it. This method is suitable for those whose car is located close to the second set of keys. Do not leave the car with the keys inside unattended, as car thieves know many ways to open the car, and your car will also contain keys as a gift. Attackers can be anywhere, and especially in parking spaces and parking lots. If there is no one to bring you an additional set of keys, you should ask the parking security guards to monitor the car while you carry the second set of keys. This method is the simplest, free and fastest, but not always applicable for certain reasons.
2nd method. We take out the seal
On the driver's door or another door, you can carefully pry off the rubber glass seal near the lock. A small screwdriver or other small object may work for this. Next, you need to pull out the glass seal - only 3-4 cm is enough. The opening tool can be a stiff wire, a knitting needle or other thin sharp objects. The end of the wire must be bent with a hook at an angle of 45 degrees.
Insert the wire vertically into the hole between the door and the glass with the hook down. After this object hits the lock, you should walk around the lock and find a mechanism to open it. After finding it, you should move the hook to the left and then move it to the right. Then feel for the locking mechanism of the lock and, when the hook is hooked onto the rod of the mechanism, open the lock.
What if this method doesn't work? How to open a car door if the lock is jammed? There is also another variant of this method.
The end of the wire can be bent into the shape of a hook with a radius of about 1-2 cm. It is also worth placing the wire vertically between the seal and the glass near the door handle. Sometimes it may be necessary to pull out the seals near the glass from the edge. Then you need to feel and hook the door rod where the door lock is located. And then use a wire to pull the rod upward until it clicks.
It may also help if you press with your hands and slightly lower the side window down at least 1 cm. It’s worth trying to do this with all the windows. If this works out, you are very lucky. Then you should bend the hook from the wire and through the opening in the lowered glass, remove the door lock button. It's worth being patient a little and trying to engage the button. If this works, you can open the door.
HELP! The door lock is jammed.
People, save us! The lock of the passenger (right front) door is jammed.
Prehistory: after winter rain there is snow and frost. It stood for 4 hours. There was a crust of ice on the car. I opened the car and all the doors opened except the passenger door. I thought she was frozen. I warmed it up in the garage - it didn't help. There is no way to open it by force either.
He took off the door trim, crawled to the inside lock, broke it into pieces, but opened the door. I installed a new internal mechanism, connected all the rods correctly, and installed a new external lock (silent liver). I assembled everything and everything worked perfectly.
The car sat on the street for a day. And today it doesn't open again. The same story. Neither the button, nor the key, nor both can be opened, although it gives in a little. It's like he's holding something.
What could it be? How to treat?
Do you think it’s an electric drive... by the way, it’s possible... but can it hold?
Well, why did you have to break the lock? Moreover, the passenger door... Doesn’t it open both from the outside and from the inside? Maybe it's something to do with the rod adjustments? I would recommend warming up the machine in the garage, removing everything CAREFULLY, without excessive enthusiasm, lubricating everything, preferably with a composite lubricant (like Litol24), and putting everything back together. If even after this it suddenly does not work as it should, I quote the manual “contact a specialized technician.” center"…
