Good day, dear readers. I decided to share my experience about tires. Initially, I purchased Yokohama BlueEarth 155/70 tires, which were really good in terms of dynamics and fuel consumption (soft, light weight - just over 4.7 kg), but disgusting tires in terms of reliability (quick wear, soft sidewall and rolling rims), which I changed it three years later at 30-35 thousand km. I later purchased a set of 5" wide stamped discs, which greatly improved comfort (the contact patch was wider) but added more than 10% of the weight per disc. I love driving outdoors, so I set out to install wide tires, and with a minimal change in the profile height (I’ve already read a lot of reviews about the deterioration of dynamics). First, I installed Toyo NanoEnergy 3 165/65 R13 on the front wheels (I ordered it in Moscow with delivery), because I hoped that the 2 mm smaller profile would level out the change in tire weight. I realized that everything is not so simple and I still lost in dynamics, but I thought it was good that it was not 165/70, which is 8 mm higher. Then I set out to find something wider than 165 mm for the rear wheels, but light enough so that the car wouldn’t stall. The ideal option turned out to be 175/60, which I could not find (it is not available at a reasonable price, but 5000 rubles for an R13 tire - let them drive themselves).

I started looking at 185/60, but realized that a wide tire might rub against the outside of the fender from the inside.

The reasons for choosing the above tire sizes are given in the table. The data from the calculator may not match. For example, I chose a tire weighing 6.5 kg, but in the calculator it is 8 kg. But the ratio in % shows everything very clearly.

Now I’ll outline the pros and cons of wide tires. Advantages. 1. Flaws. 1. For ideal asphalt roads, it is better to use tires recommended by the manufacturer (155/65 R13 for my liter version of Matiz). In general, the brakes on wide tires remain no worse, but since the wheel is more difficult to stop, at first it slows down more slowly and at first the brakes are worse. After the wheel has slowed down, the brakes are already better and no worse over a long braking distance. But a short one may not be enough.

7. In my case of mixed-width tires, there are difficulties with the spare wheel, because There must be identical tires on one axle of the car. Conclusions: 1. 185/60 should not be installed on the front and on Matiz 0.8 liters. Also, don't put it on the back if you can find 175/60. In my reality, you should never install tires with a width of 155 mm. I would buy 185/60 again only if I didn't find 175/60. They happen in the spring. And I wouldn’t put 165/70 in my wildest dreams, despite their reasonable price. Although people put the size 175/70 (+1.5-2 l/100 km) and I understand that they need it due to the lack of roads, but for me it is unacceptable to put Zhiguli tires on Matiz and get class C consumption in a class car A. 2. I do not recommend tires with a width of 175 and 185 mm for girls, because I have to press the brake harder. 175/60 ​​can still be installed on the front, but without power steering in a parking lot the difference will become noticeable 3. If I suddenly go back to 165/65 at the rear (which is unlikely), I will definitely put spacers on 6-10 mm discs for better cornering. In principle, I'm almost happy with the result (almost, because it's not 175/60). These tires are suitable for me, and the presence of a derated Aveo 1.2 liter engine under the hood, air conditioning, power steering and sound insulation add weight and slightly offset the increased rigidity of the tires. But now on long trips you will have to take a 155/70 spare tire instead of a 135/80 spare tire, because... Throwing the rear wheel forward would not be the best idea. However, I respect other people's tire choices for their driving conditions and do not consider any of the tire sizes they use to be detrimental.
