In this way, we drain the antifreeze from the Peugeot 308 as much as possible, but you need to understand that some of the liquid still remains in the cabin heater and some pipes.

Flushing the cooling system

If you think that your cooling system is heavily clogged with deposits, you can use specialized flushes. For these purposes, chemicals from any well-known manufacturer are suitable, for example, Hi Gear 7-minute wash.

Before flushing the system, do not forget to reinstall everything that we removed when draining.

If you plan to change the brand of antifreeze, then flushing with distilled water is suitable. For this procedure, a 20 liter canister is sufficient. It will be enough for 3-4 runs.

Filling with new antifreeze without air pockets

When the old fluid has been drained and the system is completely clean, you can begin to fill in new antifreeze. We check again the pipes that we should have put in place, and leave the air outlet holes open.

You can add any coolant to G-12+, but the service life will be reduced.
Lobridaceae. G-12++ antifreezes have an unlimited service life if the rules of use are followed. These antifreezes are rarely found on sale and are expensive.

Antifreeze is a coolant with domestically produced inorganic additives. There are two types of it: blue antifreeze-40 and red antifreeze-65. It coats the cooling system elements with a layer of silicates. Over time, the protective layer increases. This is good protection against corrosion, but heat transfer becomes worse. When replacing the coolant, you need to thoroughly flush the entire system to remove silicates. The peculiarity of antifreeze is that it cannot be heated above 105 degrees, it does not boil, but the additives precipitate. Therefore, it is not suitable for modern engines that heat up to temperatures of 110 degrees.

Antifreeze classification

The coolant on the Peugeot 308 should be changed when the service life of the antifreeze has expired or if there are signs that the antifreeze is not suitable for further use. The suitability of the coolant can be determined in the following ways:

When replacing antifreeze, it is advisable to work in special clothing and gloves. Do not allow coolant fluid to come into contact with skin or varnished parts. There should be no small children or animals nearby; they can taste the pleasant-smelling coolant, which can lead to severe poisoning and death.

To carry out the work you need to prepare:

new coolant;
flat screwdriver;
a container for draining waste liquid with a volume of at least 10 liters;
clean rags.

Replacement is carried out on a cooled engine. The procedure for carrying out work on the Peugeot 308 is as follows:

Place the machine on a flat horizontal plane.
We unscrew the bolts and remove the original protection.
To relieve pressure in the cooling system, carefully unscrew the cap on the coolant reservoir. If you quickly unscrew the cap, you can burn your hands with antifreeze.
Under the radiator on the left side we install a container prepared for draining the waste.
Loosen the clamps holding the lower pipe. We disconnect the hose, put a rubber tube on the pipe and lower it into the container provided.

After draining the fluid from the radiator, we rearrange the container under the cylinder block. We unscrew the drain plug on it and drain the antifreeze.
We screw all the plugs back.

At the next stage, if necessary, flush the radiator, cooling system and cylinder block. The need for this arises if the type of antifreeze being poured changes, corrosion, scale has formed in the cooling system, mechanical impurities have appeared, etc. By flushing, the protective layer of old coolant is completely removed. Washing is carried out with water or a special cleaning agent.

After flushing, the stage of pouring antifreeze into the cooling system follows:

We check the integrity of the hoses. We check that all drain plugs are tightened.
Then unscrew the cap on the coolant conservator.
Unscrew the nipple screws to remove air.
Some coolant hoses are located slightly higher than the conservator neck, making them difficult to fill easily. To fill it, you need to make a simple device - a watering can for filling coolant. To do this, take a plastic bottle and cut off the bottom. The neck is sealed with any material so that it fits tightly into the neck of the expander.

We insert the manufactured extension into the expander and slowly fill it with coolant. As the nipples fill, antifreeze will flow out. First from the bottom. You need to wait until the liquid flows out without bubbles and tighten the nipple screw.
We continue to pour antifreeze until air comes out of the nipple located on top.
Pour out all the antifreeze, leaving about half a liter of liquid. We start the engine and let it run a little at high speeds and idle for about a minute. You need to wait for the fan to turn on and off.
We turn off the engine. When it cools down, remove the extension from the neck of the tank.
Check the antifreeze level in the tank. If it is below the maximum, add liquid. Screw on the expander cap.
We check the system for leaks. If found, fix the leak.
We return the crankcase protection to its place.
