Nowadays, the issue of fuel consumption has become as relevant as ever, because gasoline prices are rising every day. Car owners always try to choose a more economical model, and Lada Priora is one of them. The fuel consumption of the Priora will please motorists, because it turned out to be pleasantly profitable. It may depend directly on the configuration of the car, but since, basically, they all have sixteen valves, the consumption of a 16-valve Priora per 100 km is not particularly different from other models.
Initial characteristics
Car manufacturers always indicate the technical characteristics of their products with some errors. And Priora, produced by the automobile company AvtoVAZ, is perhaps no exception. Initial data for this car included gasoline consumption of 6.8 to 7.3 liters/100 km.
But the real data of this model fluctuate a little and not even in the smallest amounts. And the consumption rates for such a Lada per 100 km are already different. Now we will try to show it to you.
Engine | Consumption (highway) | Consumption (city) | Consumption (mixed cycle) |
1.6i 98 hp 5-mech | 5.5 l/100 km | 9.1 l/100 km | 6.9 l/100 km |
1.6i 106 hp 5-mech | 5.6 l/100 km | 8.9 l/100 km | 6.8 l/100 km |
1.6i 106 hp 5-rob | 5.5 l/100 km | 8.5 l/100 km | 6.6 l/100 km |
Driving and fuel consumption in winter
During prolonged cold weather, the car has to be refueled more often, and the same is the case with the Lada Priora. In winter, more fuel is spent because the interior needs to be heated. Maneuvers are also more difficult to perform, which is why experts recommend changing your driving style to a more careful one in winter, because in addition to high fuel consumption, the risk of accidents on the roads increases.
Consumption in the city is affected by how the driver picks up speed and how he/she applies braking. Constant traffic jams also have a negative impact on consumption. Many drivers often turn off the engine in traffic jams, which allows them to save fuel, but this is not always convenient or appropriate, and manufacturers of modern cars have not yet figured out how to effectively save fuel directly in winter. However, if you follow certain recommendations, you can still achieve optimal consumption.

Driver surveys
To find out what kind of fuel consumption the Priora has per 100 km, it took observations from the drivers themselves, who were already able to verify the real figures in practice. These reviews are divided into several categories. Of 100 percent of respondents, most of the votes were given for the Priora's fuel consumption of 8-9 liters/100 km.
Further, with slightly fewer votes, we settled on data of 9-10 liters/100 km. The next results were consumption of 7-8 liters, which was voted for by one third of the drivers, the majority of those participating in the survey. Also, in the minority of votes, there were reviews (from large votes to small ones):
- 12 liters/100 km;
- 10-11 liters/100 km;
- 11-12 liters/100 km.
What causes increased fuel consumption on the Lada Priora?
For those who are concerned about the question of why the fuel consumption of the Lada Priora has increased, then in most cases, this is due to problems with the engine, especially if the electronic engine control system is faulty. You especially need to pay attention to these nodes:
- there is a throttle position sensor in the throttle assembly, it needs to be checked;
- you need to check the coolant temperature meter in the cylinder block housing;
- there is an oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifold housing, there may be problems with it;
- in the pipe through which air is supplied to the throttle there is a mass air flow sensor, it must also be checked for serviceability;
- In the throttle assembly, you also need to check the idle air regulator.
All these Priora problems can be detected using special equipment that is available at the service, and all these problems can be eliminated by replacing one or all failed sensors.
There are other reasons why fuel consumption on the Lada Priora may be higher:
- unstable pressure in the fuel system, this happens if the injectors are clogged or the fuel pump is faulty, or the filters in the fuel system are clogged;
- if the catalyst is clogged, this will also lead to excessive fuel consumption, since the mixture will be richer;
- if the air filter is dirty, this will also not lead to anything good;
- if the thermostat does not work, the motor will overheat, and this will lead to excessive consumption.
In addition, fuel consumption will be higher if the canister purge valve does not work properly. If this valve is changed, fuel consumption should return to normal.
It also happens that increased fuel consumption is associated with air leaks in the power system; it often happens that air leaks occur in the fittings, which are located on the back of the plastic casing, on which “16 valves” is written. If you put plugs on these fittings, the air leak can be eliminated. This can already be considered Priora tuning.
Methods for additional measurement of fuel consumption:
- To really accurately measure fuel consumption, you can fill the tank full, then measure how many kilometers you managed to drive using the odometer. This way you can see the real fuel consumption by dividing liters by kilometers;
- the on-board computer does not always accurately determine fuel consumption in the combined cycle; after zeroing, it starts counting from 20 liters per 100 km;
- To visually assess fuel consumption, you need to look at the current indicator when driving evenly in 5th gear.
Reasons for discrepancies
To give an accurate answer to what the average fuel consumption of the Lada Priora is, you need to take into account all the factors that influence higher or lower fuel consumption. The reasons may vary. These include:
- car color;
- engine condition;
- driver's driving technique;
- road condition;
- use of air conditioning, stove and other additional appliances;
- driving over 50 km/h with the windows open;
- time of year and others.
Air filter dirty
Efficiency in winter is negatively affected by the condition of the road surface, which causes slipping of the drive wheels, as well as a decrease in speed in city traffic due to traffic jams. at low pressures, 0.4 atmospheres lower than usual, rolling resistance increases and because of this, the car consumes up to 10 more gasoline, and tires wear out faster.
Car color
Some motorists argue that the cost may directly depend on the color of the car. For example, a light model consumes much less than its dark counterpart, but this is far from a guarantee.
American scientists have proven the influence of color. They found that this manifests itself especially in the warm season.
When the car heats up, it spends a lot of energy cooling the interior and, of course, fuel consumption increases
In the interiors of dark cars, during the hot season, the temperature was several degrees higher than in light models. That is, the fuel consumption of the Priora station wagon (per hundred) in the summer will be less.
Everything ingenious is simple
If you have to drive a car both in winter and in summer, saving gas will not be difficult, no matter what brand we are talking about. True, not everyone knows about this. The indicators indicated by the manufacturer are reliable. The technical passport and other documents can be trusted 100%. You need to focus on them when making a responsible choice, making an important decision at a car dealership. At the same time, they are flexible. There is always the opportunity to make rational additions, and on legal grounds. These are minor changes. There is no need to invest a lot of money in order to reduce fuel costs and later worry about the legality of innovations. All you need to do is fantasize, take a break from the routine. The first method will help you get in the right frame of mind.
The color of the car affects fuel consumption - incredible, but true. Relevant studies have been conducted in the USA. The Americans, as always, showed curiosity and ingenuity. The result was surprising. A car in white, silver, or light shades heats up less in hot weather. In this regard, less energy is spent on cooling the interior. This allows you to reduce gasoline consumption by 1.2%. Of course, much less coolant is also consumed. So it’s time to think about a new design for the Lada Priora if the body is covered in dark shades of paint.
Beautiful pastel colors have always made and still make a good impression on others. The magic of dark colors can compete with the magic of delicate shades such as pink, lemon, peach, beige, coffee. A lot of them. You just need to remember the goal - choose the most beautiful one from the lightest ones and repaint the car. Soon the investment will pay off.
Winter
It's a difficult time of year for cars. Priora fuel consumption can vary significantly. The 16 valve Priora consumes more in winter. Firstly, when the engine is not warmed up, the gasoline consumption of the Lada Priora will be higher.
Secondly, the increased complexity of roads that require the car to drift also increases fuel consumption. Thirdly, speed. The slower the car moves, the more gasoline it uses.
Lada Priora, which has 16 valves, is overall more economical than other cars with similar technical characteristics. In addition, if you wish, you can always convert it to gas consumption and significantly save your family budget.
Restyling
In 2014, it was decided to restyle the model, the appearance of which became more modern and dynamic. The Priora was equipped with the same 1.6 liter power units, but with an automatic transmission developed by VAZ specialists. They managed to maintain the dynamic characteristics of the car and maintain the same gas mileage as versions with manual transmission.
In the same year, Priora began to be produced, which installed 1.8 gasoline engines with 16 valves for 123 and 130 horsepower. This made it possible to increase the speed to 190 km/h, and the acceleration dynamics to 10 seconds. On a busy road it consumes 9.8 liters of gasoline, and on the highway 5.4 liters of gasoline.
LADA Priora guzzles gas and has trouble picking up speed
Good afternoon. The question is this. I recently bought a Priora 10g. 1.6 16 valve. In the city it consumes a lot of gasoline 9.6-10 liters. per hundred. On the highway it seems like nothing 6.5-7.5. On the highway it picks up speed poorly, 4th and 5th gears are generally terribly slow. My 15 picked up speed much faster with the 1.5 engine. I went for diagnostics, and based on the diagnostic results, I changed the camshaft sensor, but nothing changed. Maybe someone has encountered such a problem. What can be done?? Thank you!

Ten years ago, on a 9, I had an almost similar case: the mass air flow sensor died - it worked on cold and on hot, in between, but not on warm. There were no mistakes. What I mean is that such error sensors show when everything is done, completely extreme indicators, but for now they don’t - they are somehow trying to knead the mixture, it is obvious that the mixture is incorrect.

kmk, the lambda immediately shows an error, and the mass air flow sensor stupidly lies, so errors can be seen if the contact has fallen off or everything has already drowned in the fuel.

on one car the lambda probe wires were completely torn off, the check mark on the panel did not light up, but the exhaust was clearly not Euro 5 :))

It largely depends on the driving style; my son drives something like this, my consumption is noticeably lower, the tire pressure also affects it, and I hope that you don’t have winter tires.

there is a remedy - 100%! stop driving.
in the city 10 liters is a good indicator for 16v.
as little as possible, but your classmates will curse you
in the old days, 10 was the norm for me on the highway - only then an average of 110 was quite possible
