On the Lada Granta, the liftback and sedan dimensions are combined with daytime running lights in one lamp. That’s what the lamp is called: a two-filament side light/daytime running light (it’s the same on the new and old family - W21/5W). When the ignition is turned on, the DRLs (21 W thread) are automatically turned on, and when the headlights are turned on, the DRLs go out and the side lights (5 W thread) turn on. Next, we will tell you about the features of replacing the DRL bulb of a Lada Granta..

Types and causes of breakdown

These devices have several types:

  • low beam headlights. Switched on while the vehicle is running. In Russia it is allowed to use them as a light source for daytime driving;
  • high beam headlights. Operate at reduced voltage. This helps to reduce the intensity of light, which in some cases does not increase the visibility of pedestrians and cyclists on the road;
  • fog lights. Their use in Russia is permitted (clause 19.4 of the traffic rules);
  • front turn signals;
  • individual light sources at the front of the vehicle with specific light intensity patterns.

The main manufacturers of high-quality DRLs are such brands as:

These and other models of light sources may differ in shape (rectangular, round, oval), the number of diode bulbs inside, power, and brightness.

Today, manufacturers have even begun to produce silicone diode bulbs suitable for the Lada Granta. They can be located on one or several tapes.

Among the main reasons why DRLs do not light up are:

  • lack of polarity check before installing light sources;
  • The turn signal channel does not light up;
  • fuse is blown;
  • lack of heating or burnout of the filament.

To improve daytime running light sources and make them extremely useful and stylish for the car enthusiast, you need to do all stages of the work as efficiently as possible. Instead of standard lamps, which do not burn very brightly, you can install LED lighting without a base assembly. You can buy these components in almost every store that sells car parts. At the same time, when making a choice, you need to focus on models with the highest lighting brightness.

Operation of LED lamps

Where and what lamps are used on Grant 1 and 2

To find out which lamp you need to buy for replacement, you need to study the table of lamps used in Lada Granta and Lada Granta FL cars. Also, this table will be relevant for models with a liftback and station wagon body.

Light typeApplicable lamp standard

In order not to take out an old lamp and take it to the store, you just need to look at the desired light source in the table. Article numbers are not needed when purchasing light bulbs. It is enough to tell the seller the standard of the light source.

Installing new lighting

The necessary increase in brightness or service life of light bulbs can only be achieved by replacing existing lights. Car enthusiasts often replace the halogen lighting sources installed in Lada with LED ones. As a rule, even a person without experience in replacing lamps can cope with this task. However, you should know a few nuances. Simply placing a new diode in the right place is not enough - the process has its own characteristics.

They are:

  • it is often necessary to tear off the previous base from the diode in order to move its parts to the required holes;
  • the driver will have to check the polarity of the light sources on the Grant to ensure the safety of the fuse. If this is not done, the fuse that controls the voltage in the network will simply blow out. The fuse that is installed in this car model is capable of de-energizing the safe operation of the electrical circuit.

Before changing light bulbs, you need to make sure that such a procedure will not violate current legal regulations.

You should also remember to undergo routine inspection. It will help determine whether the changeover procedure is dangerous. Once you take out your old light source, you don’t need to throw it away immediately. If you do not pass inspection with new lamps, it would be logical to return the old ones in their place. Also remember that the legislation of the Russian Federation allows only white and yellow lighting on cars - other colors are illegal.

Changing the lighting on the Lada Grant to the recently popular LEDs provides many advantages:

  • consumption of less electricity and, therefore, fuel;
  • longer service life (some are designed for the entire life of the Lada Granta);
  • excellent visual effects, bright road lighting;
  • These models do not put a large load on the generator and do not overload the fuse.

To replace the right headlight, follow the algorithm:

  1. Remove the cartridge by rotating it counterclockwise.
  2. Remove the broken product by pulling it towards you.
  3. Check that the bulb's antennae match the same mounts in the car and insert it into place at a 45-degree angle.

Correct placement of diode antennae

Installing lighting in the left headlight has its own characteristics, since it is more difficult to reach.

Before the replacement process, remove the air filter unit by first unscrewing the antifreeze hose. After this, remove the 3 rubber fasteners that secure the block. Further actions are similar to replacing the lighting in the right headlight.

The Lada Granta DRL lamp is a lighting device for daytime running lights. In cars of this brand, the function of such lights is performed by dimensional lamps. In the technical literature they are called that: double-filament lamps for side lights and daytime running lights (DRL). When the ignition is turned on, a 21-watt thread of running lights lights up, and when the headlights are turned on, a 5-watt thread of side lights lights up.

The manufacturer equips the Lada Granta with the simplest and most inexpensive DRL lamps. They have many disadvantages, but only one advantage - low price. Some of the main consumer complaints about these lamps are dim yellowish light and very low service life.

Car enthusiasts who do not want to put up with the shortcomings of standard daytime running lights replace them with other models at the first opportunity. LED lamps without a base assembly or lamps with increased visual comfort are suitable as light sources. The range of such lamps is quite wide; you can find them in almost any auto parts store. When choosing LED lighting sources, experts recommend being guided by the brightness parameter.

The DRL lamp of the Lada Granta Deluxe is an ordinary halogen low beam incandescent lamp, shining white. The main disadvantage is reduced visibility in rainy weather due to the fact that white light produces much more glare from wet surfaces and raindrops than yellow light.

What does the market offer?

Below are some options for halogen lamps of different price categories that can be installed on the Grant:

And these are just a few types of halogen lamps. In general, the range of such lighting equipment is very extensive and allows any car owner to find a suitable option both in terms of price and quality of work.

About lamps with increased visual comfort

For the Lada Granta, such a running light lamp is a conventional lighting device, made using standard halogen technology, but having a more pleasant white light spectrum. Their main drawback is reduced visibility in rainy weather. This is explained by the tendency of white light to produce more glare from wet surfaces and raindrops compared to a yellow tint.

To be more specific at this point, among the most common halogen products that are readily purchased by many owners are the following:

  • OSRAM and General Electric;
  • "Mayak" and "Philips";
  • "Narva", "IPF" and "Hella".

This is not the entire recommended list of devices. If you ask about the priorities of the car manufacturer, they like OSRAM H4. These devices have two versions:

The first version has full compliance with legislative regulations in terms of ensuring safe conditions of use, including: current strength, cut-off line, illumination, beam delivery geometry and power.

The second option has an advantageous difference from the first in terms of increased resource, but is inferior in the power of the light beam. However, purchasing devices is one thing; you need to know how to change the running light bulb with your own hands.

LEDs or halogen

Many car enthusiasts strive to improve their car and install LED lamps on it instead of conventional marker lamps. At first glance, this work seems quite simple. After all, their bases and sizes are the same. But, after installing new lighting fixtures, the owner begins to get annoyed by the signal on the panel, indicating a malfunction of the side lights. At the same time, in reality everything works quite well.

The problem arises due to the low power of LEDs compared to halogen ones. As a result, the controller simply “does not see” them, which leads to a message appearing on the dashboard. To fix the problem, you just need to add a couple of resistors to the circuit, they will reduce the voltage and stabilize power consumption. As a result, the light on the panel will go out. But, you need to take into account that it is not always possible to install LEDs. For some cars this is contraindicated. And the savings are quite relative. The difference in power consumption between these types of large light bulbs is not that great, but the cost of LEDs is much higher.

If replacement of lamps is required, it is carried out using the following simple method.

We answer the question of how to change the running light bulb on your own.

  1. We provide comfortable access to the lighting device on the left (upstream) side. For this purpose, we remove the housing of the filter component of the air intake tract and disconnect the sensor, its supply cables and pipes.
  2. The body itself is forced to move upward and to the left.
  3. To provide access to the headlight on the right side of the car, it is necessary to remove the decorative engine cover. Here we temporarily unscrew the oil filler plug, then unscrew the 4 fastening units and pull the cap (snap it off).
  4. Removing a used DRL lamp involves first rotating the socket counterclockwise, after which it is removed from the socket. Having taken out the old lamp, we mount the new element into the cartridge groove. Now we screw the cartridge itself into the block.

Attention! Changing halogen devices does not “tolerate” touching the surface of their bulbs with your fingers.

This is due to the risk of leaving marks from sweat and fat, which negatively affects the service life of the device. We recommend using cotton gloves when working that do not have rubber coating on work areas. Before installing lamps on LADA Granta, wipe their bulbs with alcohol-containing wipes. This is exactly how the running light bulb is replaced.

If you notice that your running light bulbs burn out too often, the reason may be due to errors during replacement. The fact is that you cannot touch the bulbs of halogen lamps with bare hands. It is best to work in new cotton gloves that are free from dirt and other defects. The fact is that greasy marks that will remain on the lamp bulb can reduce the overall service life by up to several times. And to remove dirt, you just need to wipe the flask with a cloth previously moistened in an alcohol solution.

And, of course, do not forget that after replacing the lamps you may need to adjust the headlights.

LED running lights

The indicated process of replacing lamps on a Lada Granta does not imply that the owner has super abilities, but is associated with some minor nuances.

  1. Replacing the running light bulb with LED analogues involves performing it simultaneously in both headlights.
  2. When installing LED devices, it is necessary to observe the polarity of their connection.

Attention! If you do not take into account the need to ensure polarity, this leads to instant failure of the lighting device itself. In addition, the fuse protecting the DRL circuit falls into the risk zone.

To check the polarity of the lights on the LADA Granta, you should use a tester with the voltmeter mode turned on. Before removing the used lamps, turn on the DRLs. When the contacts of the receivers receive voltage, we bring the voltmeter probes (red and black) to their surface. We look at the readings and, if we find a negative value, this indicates a violation of the order (polarity) of the connection. In this case, the digital tester displays a “minus” on the screen, and the analog one “drives” the arrow below “zero”.

What can you supply?

Standard for this car are halogen lamps. But it is quite possible to install other types of lighting elements. The following types of lamps can be installed on Granta:

  • XENON. The light of such paws is provided by the creation of an electric arc in an environment of inert gases. They are distinguished by high brightness, relatively small dimensions and a significant service life;

  • LED. They are becoming increasingly popular among car enthusiasts. Their advantages include significant light brightness, low power consumption, and long service life.

But it’s still better not to experiment with light, but to use the Granta lamps that are indicated in those. documentation for the car, namely halogen.

With their quite good performance indicators, such lighting devices are the most inexpensive, and there is a large selection of them, which allows you to choose the best option for use.

Features of installation of LED DRLs

If you couldn’t find devices for the Lada Granta without bases, then you can stop at using conventional products. Here you will need to manually remove the base, and its released contacts will need to be adjusted to the mounting holes.

Once the procedure is completed, replaced devices should not be thrown away. This is explained by the need to comply with regulations governing regulatory and technical requirements for aspects of daylighting, which requires a visit to the technical center. If this is neglected, then there is a possible risk of prohibiting the operation of a car with lighting equipment modified in this way during the next technical inspection.

Today, the market network is able to offer a lot of LED devices for LADA Granta, with different lighting spectrums. However, regulations say that only white or yellow tints are permissible for DRLs, and other alternatives are prohibited.

Analysis of reviews from Lada Granta liftback owners

  • Grant-Eject (https://www.drive2.ru/l/6512513/): the sedan's lamps are different from those of the liftback. In the first modification they are combined, in the liftback they are separate.
  • Diyk: taillights often sweat on sedans, the problem has been eliminated in the liftback;
  • Silica Gel: to quickly remove moisture, attach a moisture absorber for shoes to double-sided tape. It doesn't last long, but it's effective. Improving the sealing of the rear lights is an alternative option.
  • Grant-Eject: insufficient fixation contributed to the flashlight falling out during movement.
  • LADA Granta 2012 (https://www.zr.ru/content/articles/832528-lampy-primenyaemye-v-avtomobile-lada-granta/): the car is reliable, unpretentious, subject to a moderate driving style. Over a period of five years of operation, breakdowns are typical and characteristic.

Lamps for increased visual comfort

The DRL lamp of the Lada Granta Deluxe is an ordinary halogen low beam incandescent lamp, shining white. The main disadvantage is reduced visibility in rainy weather due to the fact that white light produces much more glare from wet surfaces and raindrops than yellow light.

The following brands of high-comfort halogen lamps are most often found on sale: OSRAM, General Electric, Mayak, Philips, Narva, IPF, Hella, etc. The manufacturer recommends choosing OSRAM H4 models in Standard and Light Day modifications. The first fully complies with all norms and legal requirements for safety, illumination, geometry and accuracy of the cut-off line. Has the highest luminous intensity value. The second model differs from the first in having a significantly longer service life. In terms of luminous intensity it is slightly inferior to the Standard modification.

Replacement of low beam lamps is carried out as follows. Clear access to the left headlight unit. To do this, release the Lada air filter housing from all fasteners, disconnect the wiring harness and sensor. Then slide the filter housing up and to the left. To gain access to the right headlight, you need to remove the power unit cover. To do this, unscrew the oil filler cap and then the 4 mounting bolts. After this, pull the cover up and unclip it.

To remove the old lamp, first turn the socket counterclockwise and then carefully pull out the light source. Install the new one in the reverse order: first install the base into the groove of the cartridge, then screw the cartridge clockwise.

Please note: when replacing halogen lamps, it is not recommended to touch the bulbs with your fingers.

The fact is that fingerprints of sweat and grease on the bulbs of lighting devices reduce their service life many times over. Therefore, it is necessary to work in clean cotton gloves without rubber coating. Wipe the flasks themselves with alcohol wipes before installation.

Replacement instructions

To gain free access to the left block, move the housing that covers the air filter and protects it from external factors. To do this, you will need to remove all the harnesses and housings from the device, and then simply move the desired housing up.

With the right block the situation is somewhat different. In this case, to replace the running lights on the Lada Granta, you will need to dismantle the power unit cover. To do this, first remove the cover of the oil filler system, after which the desired housing is snapped off. It is worth noting that the cover can be firmly fixed, so you should firmly pull up to remove it. After replacing the running lights, be sure to return the cover to its installation location to avoid the risk of any hard dirt or debris that accumulates under the hood getting into the neck.

Daytime running lights based on diodes

Replacing incandescent lamps and installing LEDs on a Lada Granta car does not require special skills, but has some nuances. Firstly, the lamps in both headlights must be replaced at the same time: if you change one incandescent lamp to an LED one, then be sure to change the other one too. Secondly, replacing lamps with LED lighting sources requires mandatory compliance with power polarity.

Please note: if you try to install an LED lamp without observing the polarity, it will instantly fail. Moreover, there is a high probability of failure of the power fuse for the DRL lamps. Therefore, if your actions nevertheless lead to the device burning out, be sure to change the fuse before trying again.

The polarity of the contacts is determined using a voltmeter (tester). After the old lamps are removed, you need to turn on the daytime running lights so that voltage is supplied to the contacts. Then connect the red probe of the voltmeter to one contact, the black one to the other. If the device shows a positive voltage, the red probe will correspond to “plus”, and the black probe will correspond to “minus”. If the voltmeter shows a negative DC voltage, it means the wires are connected in reverse: red to negative, black to positive.

In this case, the digital tester will produce a negative voltage with a minus sign, and the readings of the pointer voltmeter will go below zero.

Replacement instructions

So, if you want to achieve a better glow and increase the service life of your optics, just change the lighting sources in it. As practice shows, the most popular option in this regard is to replace traditional halogen lamps with diode light sources. But before you begin this process, you need to understand that simply installing a diode instead of a halogen will not be enough.

After all, this process has certain features:

  1. Typically, for installation it is necessary to tear off the base previously installed on the diode element in order to transfer it to the required hole.
  2. Replacing Lada Granta DRL lamps also involves checking the polarity of the lighting sources in order to maintain the functionality of the safety element. If you do not do this, the fuse will fail in any case, thus de-energizing the safe operation of the on-board network.

Car daytime running lights
The replacement procedure is as follows:

  1. First, you need to turn off the ignition, open the hood of the car and disconnect the terminals from the battery. This will allow you to turn off the device and ensure further safe operation when the power supply is de-energized.
  2. Let's start the replacement with the light sources in the right lamp. To do this, pull out the cartridge; to do this, you need to rotate it counterclockwise.
  3. Then the failed lighting source must be removed from its seat; to do this, simply pull it towards you.
  4. After completing these steps, make sure that the antennae on the removed bulb correspond to the location of the contacts on the new one. The antennae themselves should fit into the mounts on the optics without any problems. Install the new lighting element at a 45 degree angle.
  5. Next, the lamps in the left headlamp are replaced. Here the procedure will be slightly different, since it has its own characteristics, in particular, it will be more difficult to reach the light bulb. Before changing devices, it is necessary to dismantle the air filter unit; to do this, disconnect all fasteners and clamps, as well as pipes. It will also be necessary to unscrew the pipe through which the coolant passes. The block itself is supported by three special clamps; they must be removed.
  6. After completing these steps, you will need to repeat all the replacement steps described above. Further assembly is carried out in reverse order. Now all you have to do is connect the battery and check the functionality of the optics.

Price issue

The cost of a set of lamps or the daytime running lights themselves can vary greatly depending on the manufacturer and place of purchase. Below are the average prices for headlights, as well as lighting sources that can be purchased on the Russian market.

Elements of tuning optical devices

Recently, installation of LEDs has become popular. There are many advantages with analogues: long service life, direction of the light beam, brightness, resistance to high plus and minus temperatures.

And the main trump card is cost, availability, and a wide range of color shades.

The installation process is somewhat different from the usual, as it is necessary:

  1. dismantle the standard illuminator (lamp);
  2. depressurize the lantern, remove the rubber seal;
  3. cover the seat with LED strip of the required length;
  4. connect the contact board;
  5. Reassemble the structure in reverse order.

Recently, it has become popular to install fog lights on the rear bumper. This improves visibility when passing backwards and prevents accidents. Replacing the rear fog light of a Lada Granta liftback is carried out by analogy.
