The next issue of the video magazine “Okay Mechanics” has been released. This time the presenters (Yanina Pavlova and Stanislav Bereziy) talked about the LADA Izhevsk plant (part of the AVTOVAZ Group), where all modifications of the Lada Vesta are currently produced.
The Lada Izhevsk plant has a full production cycle technology: stamping, plastic injection, welding, painting and assembly. The production capacity of the car plant is 30 cars per hour. Last year, 20 Lada Vesta and 10 Lada Granta cars were produced here per hour. After the transfer of production of Lada Granta lift kits to Tolyatti, all capacities of the Izhevsk Automobile Plant were allocated to Lada Vesta.
When did production begin, its features
In September 2022, the manufacturing process of the Lada Vesta car began. Two months later, the product is released for sale. At first, the model was seen as another failure, but today Lada Vesta is being sold in fairly large quantities, along with some foreign cars. The advantages of the car include:

- Attractive appearance and sufficient capacity.
- The standard assembly now includes ESP and ABS.

The new Lada Vesta sedan is assembled and produced in Izhevsk, where the Lada Granta liftback is produced. Renault engineers helped develop the body, which was designed using the latest software. The car frame is not inferior in strength to the Ford Focus. This was proven already in the first crash tests.

So, let's start with specifics. It should be noted where the Lada Vesta is assembled. Oddly enough, cars began to be produced not in the city of Tolyatti, but at Lada-Izhevsk. The release began on September 25, 2022. And on October 22 of the same year, President Vladimir Vladimirovich “tested” a new Russian novelty. Based on first impressions, he really liked it, in particular for its handling and comfortable interior.
An important criterion worth noting is the fact that only a third of the car is assembled from imported parts. This is the radiator of the engine cooling system, the steering mechanism of the electronic power steering and almost all the electronics. Much of Vesta is made in Russia. These parts are delivered to Izhevsk directly from the city of Tolyatti.
This is good news. After all, Lada Vesta wins in comparison with Priora, Grenade, Kalina, it looks more interesting, more beautiful and more reliable. This is how the new generation Lada is assembled. The “IKS” concept makes the car recognizable and is a kind of calling card. A very rich palette of body colors leaves no one behind. The radiator grille and headlights stand out especially gracefully. AvtoVAZ has never produced anything like this before.

The manual transmission of the Lada Vesta, in comparison with its competitors, will please you with smooth gear shifting and the absence of “hum”, which is typical for previous models of the VAZ family.
The car software has several driving style parameters. You can easily switch from one or another control mode. Everything is like in foreign cars.

All information available about Lada Vesta at the moment indicates the presence of only one production point, which is located in Izhevsk. But car enthusiasts want to know everything about Lada Vesta. Therefore, questions often arise: where else will the new Russian car Lada Vesta be produced?
There are several assumptions about this; official representatives do not say where the Lada Vesta will be produced besides IzhAvto. Although there are several well-founded assumptions. Most likely, sooner or later part of the production will move to the Togliatti plant. It’s a matter of time, gradually the demand for the new model will increase, new modifications will appear that will finally displace the obsolete Priora from the assembly line.
In addition, there are rumors that the Lada Vesta car will be produced at other enterprises. The most likely place of production is the Republic of Chechnya. It is also possible that the new Vesta will be assembled in Kazakhstan.

The factory has a mini conveyor for doors. The doors are assembled separately from the body, as in other global car factories. This reduces labor intensity, improves quality and productivity. At the end of the line, the doors are installed on the same body from which they were removed.
The ring conveyor, which has a total of 9 trolleys, allows you to simultaneously install the rear beam and the power unit module on the body.
Manipulators are devices that increase human strength many times over. For example, such devices are installed in the area where doors and instrument panels are installed on the body.
Other robots apply glue to windshields and rear windows. This process was entrusted to robots, because... they do this work more accurately and efficiently. The person just glues the glass onto the body.
The plant has a special area for checking the quality of the assembled car, which consists of five posts. These include adjustment of wheel geometry and headlights, a vehicle dynamic test stand, a wheel lateral slip test unit, an electronic control system tester and a leak test chamber. All cars, without exception, pass through the inspection line; the results of each stage of the inspection are recorded in a vehicle assembly control card, which is stored for at least five years. Also, quality control of all machines is checked by human inspectors.

The new Lada Vesta cars on sale now are all assembled at IzhAvto. All the few copies from Togliatti were sold out in the first days after the start of sales. All further production was moved to Izhevsk for a number of reasons. Below we will look at why the new Lada Vesta began to be produced at this particular enterprise.
Throughout last year, AvtoVAZ was in a fever. Due to fluctuations in the ruble on the market, problems arose every now and then with the supply of components for various models produced at the enterprise. By the time the Lada Vesta Lada Vesta was released, the problem had worsened even more. The Lada Vesta car turned out to be somewhat more expensive than originally expected.
For this purpose, they decided to adapt the production capacity of IzhAvto. At this enterprise, the screwdriver assembly of Nissan Almera and Nissan Sentra was already established. Also, the Lada Granta is produced here. By the time Lada Vesta production started, the modernization of additional workshops should have been completed.
The IzhAvto plant had several advantages. Assembly is carried out on mixed-type lines. That is, up to four different models can be assembled on one thread. That is why it turned out to be much easier to launch the Lada Vesta car here. It was only necessary to install an additional line for stamping some body parts.

Robots are also present at the enterprise, but in general the new Lada Vesta car is welded by hand. This nuance also makes it possible to assemble models with different bodies in one workshop.
In general, the idea of AvtoVAZ managers was completely successful. New Lada Vesta cars cost less than they could cost if produced at the main plant in Tolyatti. New production facilities, recently reconstructed, were also added to the business. At the same time, practically no additional funds had to be spent on organizing the process from scratch.

Production bases
Initially, it was assumed that the new Lada Vesta would be assembled at the main plant in Tolyatti. An assembly line was even set up, but overall it turned out to be not entirely profitable. And, this car required some cost adjustment to be made in order to prevent the price from being excessively inflated and to fall into the corridor allocated by marketers.
Therefore, it was decided that the new Lada Vesta would be produced at a ready-made test site in Izhevsk. Some parts are produced in the workshops of the main enterprise. That is, at the moment there are two fully operational production lines for the Lada Vesta car. However, one of them is currently not fully loaded.

All three Vesta radiators from the French brand Valeo (a well-known component manufacturer) are distinguished by good workmanship, in no way inferior to their world analogues. During dismantling, it was difficult to suspect that the radiators were assembled in Tolyatti at Valeo’s own production site.
By the way, the competence of the employees of the hotline of the Russian representative office of Valeo (where we were transferred to answer questions) was called into question. They couldn’t say exactly what was being assembled at the Valeo site in Nizhny Novgorod, and when asked about production in Togliatti, we were told that there was no confidence that it was working at all, although the press service of AvtoVAZ firmly confirmed the opposite.
Chechenavto
Few people know, but car production in the Chechen Republic has been established since 2008. Therefore, knowledgeable people were not surprised by Ramzan Kadyrov’s statement that the launch of Lada Vesta in the republic will take place in 2022. But there is no official confirmation from AvtoVAZ managers yet. According to their statements, this issue is being coordinated.
Let's take a closer look at the prospects of this endeavor. For the production of the Vesta machine, there is already a production base here. Now the Lada Priora is being produced here, which is expected to be removed from the assembly line in the very near future. Stopping the ChechenAvto plant is not very profitable from all points of view.
