The thought occurred to me to change the ignition switch on the Niva, because... I don't like starting the car with my left hand. In addition, I would like the radio to turn off when the key is removed from the ignition.
A lock from a VAZ-2110 (with a microswitch and backlight) was suitable for this case. But it was not possible to install it on the standard Niva 2121 steering column. In addition, the steering column from the VAZ-2110 has height adjustment! which also significantly captivated me.
In short, as it turned out, installing a steering column from a VAZ-2110 along with an ignition switch in a Niva is not so difficult! All the work was done in 3 hours of easy work!
Steering column assembly
- In order to connect the steering column and the steering mechanism, you need to replace one part of the universal joint on the standard steering shaft of the VAZ 2131. By installing the tip removed from the VAZ-2110 shaft.
- This procedure goes quickly with a vice!
The mount is easy to adapt - I welded two washers at the back, and at the front where the main load is, I welded battery mounting plates from M2141 or GAZelle as mounting lugs
Installs without any problems. The length of the VAZ 2121 steering shaft (with a modified universal joint tip) is just right for proper installation.
- After assembly, the cover from the steering column 2110 fits in without any problems. Ennobling the whole thing!
- And the ignition switch is on the right!
