The first stage is diagnostics of the VAZ-2105 starter

If the VAZ-2105 car suddenly stops starting, then you can try to find problems and failures in its functional system yourself, as they say, in a garage. The entire diagnostic process can be divided into several main stages.

The first step is to check the starter:

  • spins or doesn't spin;
  • with what intensity does it rotate?

If you didn’t pay attention at the moment when you tried to start your car, then try starting the car again and listen to the operation of the starter.

So, let's consider possible situations of development of events.

Situation No. 1 – when the ignition is turned on, the starter does not turn, the drive relay does not click. There is only one conclusion: the fault lies precisely in this automobile part. Although experienced car enthusiasts claim that such a conclusion may be incorrect! Before you write off the starter, you should pay attention to the battery. Perhaps the battery is discharged, so the starter does not turn, and the VAZ-2105 does not start.

Situation No. 2 – the starter turns barely, which is called sluggish. This could mean an almost completely discharged battery. To be sure of this, you need to pay attention to the following points:

  • operation of the headlights (in this situation they will shine very dimly);
  • beep sound (if the battery is not fully charged, the beep sound will be very quiet).

Situation No. 3 – the starter performs its functions properly, but the car still does not start. In this situation, you no longer need to blame the battery, but look for faults in other automotive systems:

  1. Ignition.
  2. Fuel supply.

Situation No. 4 - the starter performs its functions properly, the ignition and fuel supply systems work perfectly, the VAZ-2105 does not start. It remains to check the camshaft drive belt.

Based on the above situations and possible malfunctions, you should proceed to the next stage of self-diagnosis of the VAZ-2105.

Crankshaft position sensor

The sensor itself is very reliable, and there is nothing to break there. However, it can become clogged with a thick layer of dirt and stop functioning. The way out of the situation is simple: just wipe it. As a rule, it cannot become dirty immediately and the problem will manifest itself gradually: at first your VAZ does not start well, and after a month the car is no longer able to start.

Since a lot of dirt accumulates on this sensor, its contact with the wire simply rots. This is already a common problem, but it can be easily solved by manually restoring contact. The crankshaft sensor is located on the oil pump.

It is important to know! It is not permissible to make contact using twists. So you will lose it in a month, so it is best to solder the contact and cover it with lithol.

Hot carburetor engine does not start

The reasons are related to the malfunction of carburetors 2108, 21081, 21083 Solex, 2105, 2107 Ozone and their modifications. In addition to a carburetor malfunction, it is worth paying attention to the ignition system (2108, 21081, 21083, 2105, 2107), the car’s power system, etc.

Symptoms of a problem

A warm (“hot”) engine does not start. The starter rotates the crankshaft, but there is no spark in the cylinders.

The warmed-up engine starts, makes several flashes and stalls.

Causes of malfunction

— There is no fuel in the float chamber

Maybe it just evaporated. Pump it up using the manual pump lever on the fuel pump.

— Problems with fuel supply to the carburetor

We check the fuel supply system (before entering the carburetor) by removing the hose from the fuel supply fitting on the carburetor and pressing the pump lever on the fuel pump several times. A strong, pulsating stream of fuel should come out of the hose opening. If the stream is weak or not at all, then the fuel pump or some other element of the power system may be faulty. As a result, the fuel supply is insufficient or stops altogether.

If it is not there, we connect a piece of wire plus the battery and the valve outlet. There is no click - we change the valve. A click appears - we are checking the EPH system. Checking the gasoline supply

You can indirectly determine the supply of gasoline to the cylinders by the appearance of the spark plug. If the spark plug removed from the cylinder is wet and smells of gasoline, then everything is fine with the fuel supply. However, it is better to make sure of this more reliably.

On injection engines, this requires relieving pressure in the fuel system using a special valve at the end of the fuel rail. Unscrew the cap and press the valve with a screwdriver. Gasoline should squirt out from under the valve. After this, release the valve and turn on the ignition. At this time, the fuel pump must start, restoring the released pressure in the system. If the pump is silent, turn on the starter. When the pump does not operate even when the starter is turned on, there is most likely a malfunction in its power supply system.

If the pump starts working, then we check the pressure in the fuel system again, releasing it through the same valve in the ramp. Splashing gasoline again indicates that everything is in order with the fuel supply system. When gasoline does not splash and does not appear from under the valve at all, we can talk about a faulty fuel pressure regulator in the rail (constantly bleeds gasoline through the return line into the tank) or some kind of plug in the main fuel line (for example, due to freezing of water in low-quality fuel ).

On carburetor engines, checking the fuel supply is much easier. It is enough to remove the air filter cover, move the throttle lever of the first chamber of the carburetor, simulating pressing the gas pedal, and see if gasoline sprays from the spray nozzle. You can pump gasoline into the carburetor using the manual pumping lever, which is found on all mechanical gasoline pumps.

    Power system malfunctions

    The VAZ 2107 car engine is a proven and reliable unit. If the power unit does not start, the following problems in the power system are possible:

As a result, the power unit does not start, especially after a long stay, when the fuel level in the float chamber is extremely low.

    What else could happen?

    It often happens that the car has barely left the workshop, and ignition problems are already making themselves felt. It goes without saying that drivers become indignant and want to punish careless specialists. However, there is no need to rush into a showdown! There can be several reasons for this phenomenon, and the most common of them are:

    • valve clamping;
    • incorrect ignition installation;
    • Incorrect marking on the pulley and camshaft.

    However, there is another, most common problem when the car does not start after replacing the piston rings. Outwardly, everything seems completely normal: the starter turns properly, but the engine still does not want to start. It is this state of affairs that confuses drivers. Everything works fine, why then do problems arise?

    Expert advice in this case is quite simple: the spark plugs need to be unscrewed again, and 2 or 3 cubes of motor oil should be poured into the cylinders using an ordinary medical syringe. Next, you need to run the engine a little without spark plugs, and then screw them in and repeat the procedure. Now the car will definitely start moving!

    Of course, after the engine grabs its share of oil, its “appetites” begin to increase, and nothing can be done about it. Of course, you can completely replace the motor part and components, but such a procedure is completely unjustified. It’s better to be content with what you have, because in general the VAZ 2105 car is quite economical, both in terms of operation and consumption. The main thing is to provide him with proper care. Then you won’t have to worry about breakdowns for a long time.

    VAZ 2107 carburetor does not start - reasons

    The first step is to determine whether fuel is entering the engine. To do this, check the entire fuel system.

    Fuel tank and fuel lines of the VAZ 2107: 1 - fuel pump; 2 — hose from the fuel pump to the carburetor; 3 - carburetor; 4 — rear tube; 5 — sensor for level indicator and fuel reserve; 6 — safety shield; 7 — tank ventilation tube; 8 — fuel tank; 9 — gaskets; 10 — fuel tank mounting clamp; 11 — front tube; 12 — fine fuel filter.

    1. We determine the integrity of the fuel line. The presence of a fine filter will greatly help with this; it is usually installed in front of the fuel pump. To do this, you will need to pump up the pump manually. If fuel circulates in the filter during manipulations, then the system is sealed. If fuel does not flow and the filter remains dry, you need to check the integrity of the entire line from the tank to the fuel pump.
    2. After the fuel line has been checked, the fuel pump must be checked. To do this, you need to disconnect the inlet pipe (while the fuel must remain inside the pump), fuel leakage indicates a malfunction of the check valve, therefore, the pump needs to be replaced. If there is no leak and gasoline remains inside the pump, you need to close the inlet pipe and pump the fuel manually several times. After pumping, a vacuum is formed in the pump, which should not be released even within 1 - 2 minutes.
    3. If the fuel pump is working properly, make sure that fuel enters the manifold. Here you will need the help of a second person. To do this, you need to remove the air filter cover and turn the starter while pressing the gas pedal. Meanwhile, your partner should look into the intake manifold and observe. If fuel does not flow, the carburetor should be flushed and the procedure repeated.

    Ignition problems

    The most common malfunction. The spark itself may exist, but its strength is not sufficient to ignite the fuel mixture. To identify the problem, the first step is to check the spark plugs.

    In case anyone doesn't know, spark plugs can be found by the wide wires coming from them. We need to determine which candle has failed, because they cannot all break at once. To check, you need to start the VAZ engine and listen to the sound of its operation. Next, we unscrew the spark plugs one by one and listen to how the sound of the engine changes. When you remove a faulty spark plug, the sound of the engine will not change.

    Inspect the unscrewed spark plug. By the carbon deposits on it you can determine why it failed. Most likely, the electrode will have one of the following deposits:

    • Of red color. Occurs due to the addition of various additives to car fuel. If you see this type of carbon deposits, then you should refuse additives, because soon you will have to change the remaining spark plugs.
    • White (similar to plaque). Indicates that the fuel mixture is unbalanced. This means that it is formed in the wrong oxygen/fuel ratio. There may be either an excess of fuel or an excess of oxygen.
    • Matt black color. Occurs due to an excess of gasoline in the fuel mixture. Reason: the carburetor is incorrectly adjusted or the injector is not working correctly. Another symptom: increased fuel consumption.
    • Oil black. Logically, this indicates increased oil consumption, which gets onto the electrode and interferes with the formation of a spark.


    It is important to know! The spark plugs may be outwardly in good working order and the lack of a spark may be caused by filling the spark plug electrode with gasoline. This occurs due to a low battery charge.
