In order for the car to operate smoothly, it is necessary to monitor its technical condition. Using an on-board computer, diagnostics of VAZ 2112 and 2111 with an 8 and 16 valve engine can be done by yourself. The article describes diagnostic devices and provides instructions for its implementation.

When is diagnosis necessary?
Computer diagnostics involves reading error codes, erasing them and correcting them. For this, various diagnostic adapters and systems are used. These include multifunctional stands, OBD connectors, portable readers and other devices. Thanks to diagnostic equipment and software, the slightest malfunctions in the vehicle’s control system and its main components are detected.
Using diagnostic systems, you can change parameters to increase the power characteristics of the machine. If a new car model comes out, you can reprogram the functions for the new equipment.
Computer diagnostics are usually carried out in the following cases:
- indicators on the dashboard light up, signaling any malfunctions;
- the driver has suspicions of a malfunction of any components or systems;
- check the condition of a used car before purchasing;
- Experts recommend diagnostics at least once a year.
Diagnostics using electronic equipment makes it possible to obtain real information about the technical condition of the car.
How to check VAZ 2112 errors
There are 2 methods of troubleshooting on a car with an 8 and 16 liter engine - self-diagnosis and connecting with a third-party detector.
In the first option, you can look at the faults like this.
- Get in the car.
- Insert the key into the lock cylinder and do nothing else.
- Hold down the daily mileage key and, without releasing it, turn on the ignition (do not start the engine).
- Information about entering the service mode will light up on the device.
- Press the module control key twice.
- Count the errors that appear.
The second option involves connecting special equipment to the OBD2 port. Here the operation should be performed by specialists with experience in this field.
Instructions for performing diagnostics
To diagnose a VAZ, a computer or diagnostic equipment is connected using a diagnostic connector.

All broadcast codes are read by the scanner. They are stored in the controller’s memory until its power is turned off. Using special software, specialists decipher the codes and determine what malfunctions and failures exist in the system.
The diagnostic procedure consists of several stages:
- Suspension diagnostics. This procedure is performed if uneven tire wear, knocking or humming is detected when driving at a constant speed, making sharp turns, or on an uneven road. And also in case of premature activation of the ABC, increased free play of the steering wheel.
- Engine check. The power engine should be diagnosed if it runs intermittently, takes a long time to heat up, is difficult to start, as well as with increased fuel consumption, loss of power, the appearance of extraneous noise, or a decrease or increase in idle speed. During diagnostics, the electrical supply and ignition system are checked, and the pressure in the cylinders is measured (the author of the video is Pavel Master).
An automatic transmission is diagnosed in the following cases:
- no gear is engaged;
- When changing gears, noises, jerking, and slipping appear;
- increased fuel consumption;
- Oil leak detected.
During diagnostics, the scanner reads error codes of the automatic transmission control system, evaluates the readings of the throttle position and cooling system temperature sensors, as well as the position of the automatic transmission selector.
First of all, diagnostics are performed using a scanner. The scanner readings are deciphered and conclusions are drawn about problems in the system. At the second stage, analog testing is carried out - wiring, contacts, and batteries are checked. Next, an online check is carried out. The screen displays indicators of sensors, fuel injection, etc. Then the data obtained during posting is analyzed. At the last stage, the error codes stored in the controller’s memory are erased. After this, reinitialization is necessary.
Diagnostics using additional tools
To diagnose cars, including the VAZ 2110, various equipment is used, which is connected to a special connector. Thanks to this equipment, which is not particularly complicated or expensive, you can get a complete picture of the condition of the car.
The service station uses a personal computer to which data from phase sensors is transmitted via a special cable.
Adapter for car diagnostics
Bluetooth devices have appeared on the market that allow diagnostics using a smartphone, tablet or laptop.
They work according to the scheme. The device is connected to the connector, the ignition is turned on and the diagnostic process begins. The data comes from phase sensors to the ECU. From it to a mobile device on which specialized software must first be installed.
This makes it possible not only to obtain more data, but also to present it in a more visual form. This method allows a driver, even with little experience in operating a car (in our case, a VAZ 2110), to obtain all the data about his car.
But most drivers prefer to carry out diagnostics at a service station. So that you are aware of the data that the on-board computer produces through RAM from the phase sensors, we will present the transcripts of common errors.
Decoding combinations
If problems arise with electrical equipment, they must be corrected immediately. Error code 1602 will indicate that not everything is in order in this matter.
Sometimes error 1602 can simply be reset and does not appear in the future. Socialists call such data “good.”
Error 1602 sometimes appears if:
- the battery was disconnected for some time;
- there was a voltage surge when starting the engine, for example, in cold weather.
But if error code 1602 appears all the time, you need to check the entire network. Perhaps there is a break. If error code 1602 constantly appears, you can try cleaning the battery terminals. Check if they are securely fastened. Didn't help, error 1602 still appears? Check the circuit. You need to start from the positive terminal of the battery. Start with the electrical fuse and fuse link.
Check the ground of the ECU, TPS. Sometimes it happens that the cause of error code 1602 is an alarm that can block the controller circuit and affect the readings of the phase sensors. In such a situation, you need to file a claim with the company that installed the alarm.
Error 0102 indicates a low signal level, which is reported from the mass air flow phase sensor.
Code 0102 will be stored in RAM memory in the following situations:
- low air consumption, which depends on the speed of rotation of the crankshaft;
- how open the throttle is;
- Several cycles have passed since the problem appeared.
If the error appears periodically, then you need to:
- check the condition of the air barrier;
- fastening the wiring block to the ECU;
- check IAC;
- clean the throttle pipe.
Another error that may occur is 0300. 0300 appears in cases where the RAM records frequent misfires.
If error code 0300 is displayed constantly, then you need to check the following components:
- spark plug;
- nozzles;
- ignition system;
- increased or decreased compression levels may be the cause of code 0300;
- Also, code 0300 may appear in case of wiring failure.
You cannot ignore the appearance of error 0300. In the future, this may lead to deterioration in the performance of other nodes.
It is not difficult to master car diagnostics, in particular the VAZ 2110. It will extend the service life due to timely detection of faults detected by phase sensors.
Connector location and features
For communication with the controller there is a connector, which is a trapezoidal block with 9 blocks. To connect a scanning device, you need to know where the diagnostic connector is located. In a VAZ 2112 car it is located under the instrument panel console to the left of the steering column.

On the VAZ 2111, the connector is also located in the area of the steering column on the right. Most often it has a vertical location.

Pinout
If self-diagnosis is carried out, then you need to know the lining of the block. Pinout is the purpose of the contacts that are located on the block. Below is the OBD pinout.
Pinout of OBD II device for VAZ
“A” is the contact responsible for connecting the ground; “B” is the contact that is necessary to connect the L-Line; “M” is a contact that is used to connect K-Line; “G” - contact responsible for controlling the fuel pump; “H” - contact for +12V power supply.
You can diagnose your car yourself by connecting a scanner or other diagnostic equipment to the diagnostic connector. This will save time and money on visiting a car service center.
Error codes
It is recommended to carry out diagnostics and flashing of the ECU with the on-board PC removed.
Now let's decipher the codes of all ECU error codes that can pop up when connecting the car's on-board computer to a laptop or tablet PC: 0102 - Low signal level of the mass air flow sensor 0103 - High signal level of the mass air flow sensor 0112 - Low level of the intake air temperature sensor 0113 - High Intake air temperature sensor level 0115 - Incorrect coolant temperature sensor signal 0116 - Incorrect coolant temperature sensor signal
Programs for diagnosing VAZ, Lada cars and their correct settings
This article will discuss ways to connect diagnostic scanners to the OBD2 and GM12 connectors of VAZ, Lada, and the following models: 2107, 2108, 2109, 21099, 2110, 2111, 2112, 2113, 2114, 2115, Granta, Priora, Vesta, X -ray, Kalina, Largus, Niva The work of the ELM327 OBDII and Master Kit BM9213 scanners with VAZ, Lada cars and diagnostic programs Torque, OpenDiag and their correct configuration will be considered. We’ll also look at connecting these scanners using the example from the videos.

Connecting a diagnostic scanner via GM12 and OBD2 connectors to VAZ, Lada cars
Let's start right away with where most novice diagnosticians of VAZ or Lada cars fail. For its injection cars, AvtoVAZ installed connectors for connecting GM12 type ECUs. The ELM327 scanner is designed to work with OBD2, so contacting the “brains” of the car by using this scanner to diagnose VAZ and Lada cars up to model 2114 will be a little problematic, but, in general, with certain “dances with a tambourine” it is quite possible (although cars with Bosch firmware 7.9.7 will be visible from 2011 without problems). But first of all, we will look at connecting a diagnostic scanner via the GM12 connector, which is connected to a car with a GM12 (OBD1) connector via USB.
Connecting the scanner to the GM12 connector of VAZ, Lada 2107, 2108, 2109, 21099, 2110, 2111, 2112, 2113
For diagnostics (as well as CHIP tuning, firmware) of injection engines of VAZ cars with a GM12 (OBD1) connector via the K-line, a scanner from Master Kit BM9213 and its upgraded version BM9213M are used.

ELM327
Separately, we will introduce you to the ELM327 adapter, with the help of which many VAZ 2110 owners perform full diagnostics on their own.
ELM327 is one of the latest OBD developments. This scanner is used to check cars using a computer. The key advantage is that the device supports all known OBD protocols and interacts with many diagnostic programs. A USB cable is used to connect the device to a computer.
The software for the ELM327 is mostly free, although some software is available only for a fee.
The adapter can work on computers with different OS. Namely:
The full capabilities of the scanner can only be fully realized through properly selected software. For self-diagnosis, software for scanning the transmission and engine is available free of charge. Commercial versions of the programs allow you to additionally check other components of the car.
Key Features
Let's take a look at the capabilities that the ELM327 chip provides:
- Reads error codes and vehicle malfunctions;
- Displays codes and their descriptions;
- Exports data for printing, if necessary;
- Removes error codes;
- Displays data in metric and US measurement systems;
- Records, saves data, builds graphs;
- It has an acceleration counter from 0 to 100 km/h, which allows diagnostics on the go.
Many vehicle operating parameters must be checked while driving. Not all adapters are suitable for this, so it is important to choose equipment that suits your requirements.
Equipment
By purchasing this adapter, you get:
- High precision adapter based on ELM327 processor;
- OBDII cable;
- Cable for connecting to a computer;
- Disc with free software.
It is not necessary to have a powerful computer to operate the adapter and receive information. The parameters of the simplest laptops are quite enough to diagnose the VAZ 2110.
Self-diagnosis allows you to save a lot of money, get objective information about the condition of your car, and also save yourself from unnecessary financial costs that will certainly appear when you go to a service station.
