Each individual VAZ 2110 engine mounting mount and all of them together are designed to provide reliable mounting while simultaneously vibration isolating the engine and gearbox on the vehicle.

On the VAZ 2110, the cushion is a rubber-metal part such as a silent block. On one side this part is attached to the body, on the other - to the engine cylinder block. They hold not only the engine, but also the gearbox.

Design difference

On a VAZ 2110, the engine is usually held by three or four points at the bottom, and two or three at the top. But you should know that the 8 valve engine has a rear engine mount. The 16 valve does not have it, but it has additional supports.

Do I need to change

There are no recommendations for replacing pillows depending on their service life, but once you determine that they are faulty, you should not delay replacing them. Vibration processes can not only worsen the comfort of the driver and passengers, but also lead to destructive processes in the engine or gearbox itself.

Having decided to repair the engine mounting elements, you need to decide whether you will change the cushions themselves or the mounts assemblies. In principle, if the metal support itself is not damaged, it can be left, replacing only the pillow.

When and why you need to replace engine mounts: what to look for

First of all, it should be noted that the engine has several mounts: the right engine mount, the top engine mount and the rear mount. The support itself is a rubber-metal part, consisting of a metal body and a rubber insert (cushion).

To put it simply, the pillow vaguely resembles a silent block in design. The main objective of this solution is to dampen vibrations during operation of the internal combustion engine. Also, the absence of rigid fastening of the power unit to the body makes it possible to increase the service life of some body elements.

For example, when driving over uneven surfaces, the engine “rocks” on rubber cushions, the support smoothes out the vibrations, and there is less load at the mounting points of the internal combustion engine. If we talk about the VAZ 2110 model, the 8-valve engines on this car are secured using three supports (two side engine mounts, as well as a rear cushion). In turn, the 16-valve engine has 4 airbags (two side pores, a lower front airbag and an upper front airbag).

  • To determine when engine mounts need to be replaced, it is enough to assess the level of vibrations during engine operation. As a rule, if the engine mounts are faulty, strong vibrations will be transmitted to the body. Moreover, vibrations will be clearly felt on the steering wheel, pedal assembly, gear knob, etc. In such a situation, the entire body usually “shakes”, and the cause is faulty power unit mounts.

Engine vibration is felt most strongly during startup and also when the engine stops. Also, especially when the cushions are critically worn, a knocking sound may occur when the engine comes into contact with the support.

  • To determine the condition and need to replace the engine mounts, it is often enough to start the engine and then inspect the mounts and mounts. You also need to pay attention to the strength of engine vibrations at idle by placing a hand on the valve cover.

In practice, if deformation of the cushions is noticeable, the rubber has cracked/delaminated and lost its elasticity, in this case it is time to change the engine mounts.   1. Right pillow. It is necessary to unscrew: • The upper nut; • Bolts for fastening to the bracket; • Bolts under the wheel arch securing the bracket to the side member. We remove the bracket and install a new pillow, reassembling it in the reverse order.
  2. Left. After unscrewing the top nut, lower the motor onto the prepared support and pull out the top washer from the support. We unscrew the fastening bolts, remove the washer, after which you can replace it;
  3. Rear (8-valve only). Unscrew the nuts that secure the airbag to the body, then the bolts securing it to the gearbox. The new part may come with a bracket. But if it is not there, install it with the removed one and assemble all the parts in place.

Please note that when engine vibrations occur, you should not always immediately change all the supports “in a circle”. It happens that even on a relatively “fresh” car, only one element fails, while others are quite suitable for further use. This occurs as a result of technical fluids getting into contact with the rubber part of the cushion, etc.

However, as for basic recommendations, if the car has a mileage of about 80-100 thousand km. and more, and all engine mounts have the same service life and have begun to fail, it is better to immediately replace all such mounts.

The reason is obvious - if the rubber begins to deteriorate from old age, after replacing one clearly faulty element, after a while the next cushion will also no longer cope with its task.

VAZ-2112 (LADA 2112) is a Russian car produced by the Volga Automobile Plant. The model was mass-produced for 10 years - from 1998 to 2008. The Lada Priora replaced the Zhiguli (the popular name for the 2112 model).

VAZ 2112 is built on the VAZ 2110 platform. The new model was produced in a hatchback body. Structurally, the two models are identical, only the VAZ 2112 has a reduced body length. The rear seat is borrowed from the VAZ 2111.

Additional support

Replacement

The replacement procedure should not cause much difficulty for those who have independently repaired their car more than once, especially the suspension and chassis.

Dismantling works

Replacement has its own nuances depending on the pillows for each engine in question. We will separately talk about the repair of 8 and 16 valve engines.

8 valve engines

  1. Select a flat surface for repairs, place chocks under the rear wheels, and turn on the handles.
  2. Remove the engine protection.
  3. Unscrew the bolts of the generator belt tensioner, after which this belt must be removed. You will need a 13mm wrench.
  4. Place a jack under the car, place a strong wooden board on top and lift the engine until it releases the load from the supports.
  5. Using a 15 wrench, unscrew the central fastening nut of the worn pillow.
  6. Now use a 13mm wrench to unscrew the airbag fixing bolts mounted on the bracket.
  7. From below, near the right arch, 3 more bolts are unscrewed. They are responsible for connecting the bracket to the spar. You need a 17mm wrench.
  8. The bracket is removed, the pillow is removed and replaced with a new one.
  9. Next, perform assembly in reverse order.
  10. Place the jack under the transmission and then lift it up.
  11. Using a 15 wrench, unscrew the nut of the central fastening of the left pillow.
  12. Using a 13mm wrench, unscrew a pair of bolts securing the support, after which it is removed.
  13. Replace the damaged element, and then carry out the reassembly procedure.
  14. Remove a pair of nuts with a 17mm wrench. They secure the cushion to the body. Then a couple more nuts connecting the cushion to the gearbox are unscrewed.
  15. Remove the rear support.
  16. Using a 17mm wrench, remove the fastening nut connecting the bracket to the cushion. A new rubber part is installed in place of the old element.
  17. The rear support is returned to its original state by reassembly.

Manufacturers and prices of analogues

Powertrain cushions for Lada Priora are produced by many manufacturers. The most common brands are:

  • BRT - parts from the famous Balakovo Rubber Products Plant;
  • Lada Detal – original Lada spare parts from conveyor suppliers, in particular AvtoVAZ subsidiary VIS;
  • Riginal is a fairly young brand of PKF Niagara.

The cost of spare parts from these manufacturers is approximately the same, the difference in price depends mainly on the specific store. Some companies supply kits for replacing all suspension elements of the power unit at once. Such a purchase is usually more profitable than purchasing spare parts separately.
