Therefore, for those people for whom gasoline is an unaffordable expense, a manual gearbox is proposed, since it is with it that fuel consumption will be the lowest. The ground clearance (clearance) of the Lada Grant is about 190 millimeters and will allow you to easily overcome significant bumps.

"Granta": 16 valves

Now let's talk about the engine, which comes in mid-range and top-end trim levels. This is also a 1.6-liter unit, but already developing 106 horsepower. This unit features a new 16-valve head. This made it possible to increase torque and power, as well as reduce fuel consumption. If we talk about dynamics, the 16-valve Granta accelerates to hundreds in 10.6 seconds. By the way, both a manual and a robotic gearbox can be used as a gearbox. With the latter, the car reached a hundred one and a half seconds later. And until 2015, an automatic machine from Jatko (Japan) was also available.

But, as noted in the reviews, fuel consumption increased significantly because of it. If with a manual the car spent about 6.7 liters (for a robot the figure is 0.1 liters more), then with an automatic the car spent at least 12 liters in the city. This angered many owners. Due to the decline in popularity, AvtoVAZ had to abandon this gearbox (four-speed automatic transmission).

Inside, the interior is quite spacious, and does not differ much in all three body types. There is enough space for the driver's and front passenger's legs, even if the legs are almost straightened and not bent at the knees. There is a little less space in the back seat, but at the same time, your knees do not rest against the back of the front seats.

The width of the seats is impressive and can accommodate large passengers. The same applies to the driver's seat. The steering wheel is located quite conveniently and has a large distance to the seat. Based on the width of the rear seat, the car can easily accommodate three people of average build.

Also, it is worth noting the difference in the size of the luggage compartment. In the sedan and sport body, the trunk has the same volume - 520 liters, but in the liftback, the trunk is increased to 760 liters, thanks to the modified body.

What kind of oversized cargo will fit into the trunk of a Liftback?

With the rear row seats folded, the trunk can accommodate four tires with a radius of 14 - 15 inches. Plus, there is space on the sides for storing tools, a tow rope, and a foot pump for inflating wheels.

Interior and exterior of Grants sedan

So, the first indisputable advantage of the Granta sedan over its competitors is a spacious interior, in which even tall people (from 195 cm) will not have to rest their heads on the ceiling or bump shoulders with the front passenger. The interior decoration cannot boast of expensive materials. The ceiling is textile, the floor is carpet, hard plastic - without inserts. But for a people's car, the main thing is to maintain low cost and practicality.

There should be no problems with cleaning the interior, and the use of expensive finishing materials can significantly increase the price. The trunk of the Granta sedan will please those who like to transport cargo. Its capacity is enormous, as can be seen from the appearance of the car. Granta's stern looks a little heavy, although this does not interfere with the dynamics at all. Compared to the donor Kalina with a trunk volume of 400 liters, the Granta's trunk has grown by 80 liters.

It also hides a full-size spare tire and tools. The luggage compartment is opened either with a key or with a button from the passenger compartment. The sedan's exterior proclaims its practicality. Quite pleasant, but lacking any grace. Perhaps this is explained by the fact that its development was entirely entrusted to computer programs.

Grant is supplied to the market in three trim levels that have become familiar to AvtoVAZ: “standard”, “norm” and “luxury”. The most affordable sedan in terms of price and the poorest in terms of equipment is the “standard”. Today its price is 293,600 rubles. You can't paint a bumper in body color even for money. The front and rear bumpers of the Lada Grant practically do not stick out, although they have a convex shape. Thanks to this, the machine reaches a length of just over four meters (4260 mm).

The liftback, due to its more spacious luggage compartment, has a shorter length. True, the difference is not significant at all, only 1.4 cm (total length - 4246 mm). But the Granta in the sport body has a length longer than that of the sedan, by only 2 cm (4280 mm). This slight difference is not due to changes in the structure of the body, but due to updated bumpers that have a more convex and patterned shape.

The width of all three types: sedan, liftback and sport is absolutely the same. The dimensions of the car, from the edge of the left mirror to the edge of the right, are 1.7 meters. These dimensions are not very different from other Lada models (in width). At the same time, roominess and comfort are completely different in each model. For example, in Grant the interior is quite spacious, which cannot be said about Kalina.

The Grant's rear seats can only be folded when the front seats are pushed all the way forward. In this case, the rear head restraints must first be unscrewed. The top parcel shelf can be easily removed, which is very useful if you need to transport something large. The volume, of course, is not added, but the load does not rest against anything. In the photo the shelf is raised. In the niches on the right and left you can place medium-sized bags, and, if necessary, a strategic set of tools for car repairs on your own.

Above these recesses there are hangers for packages: now there is no need to clutter up the rear seats with them. There is a light above the left niche, but it only works if the driver turns on the low beam headlights. In cloudy weather and in the evening it’s a good addition, but considering that you can forget to turn on the low beam, it’s not very convenient.

The rubber mat in the trunk did not receive flattering reviews. It is no longer possible to attach a “motorist’s bag” to it with Velcro, and the quality of the mat’s material is worse than it could be. And the trunk really needs a rubber mat. A pile covering is not suitable for this role, since, firstly, it can be damaged by the leakage of various liquids, and secondly, it will collect all the dirt and dust from the luggage compartment.

The rubber coating in the Granta's trunk easily fits on top of the usual one. But, if you store something in the spare wheel recess, you need to take into account that one mat will rest against the side niches of the trunk and bend, and if you put some things above the spare wheel, they will fall into the resulting recess.
