Good day to all readers. This is my first time writing a review, so don't judge too harshly. And in general, this is not a review, but first impressions. I will write as best I can, as they taught me at school. I will try to avoid complicated words and abbreviations so that everything is clear.

In general, the Lada Granta liftback is my first new car; before that there were many different cars of different brands: from an old sprinter to a Cruiser 100, from a VAZ 06 to a Priora. And they were all used, so don’t ask why I didn’t buy a used one for that money, and I would have been happy. I wanted a new one.

At the moment, finances were only enough for Grant. There were a lot of Russian cars, so I had no illusions about the build quality and spare parts. I’ve been traveling for less than a week and I’m already waiting to see what will happen first.

So, in order, let's start with the purchase history. I decided so I decided. I was waiting in a new body, because what’s the point of taking an old body if a new one is about to arrive at the dealership.

As soon as the cars arrived at the dealership, I went to see them in person. I wanted to take a white one in the minimum configuration for 440,000 rubles, but, remembering how bad it was for me in the summer in a black nine without air conditioning, how hard it was to turn the steering wheel in a working gazelle and in my Suzuki Escudo on large wheels without electric power steering, and also to turn the oars , instead of power window buttons, I changed my mind.

In my city there was no average configuration, I had to travel 400 km to another city. By calling in advance, of course. The inconvenience was caused by the situation with the purchase of the car, namely, that they did not have a title in stock.

First you have to make a deposit, then they pay it to the factory, the factory instructs DHL to transfer the title to the car dealership. And then you pay the rest and pick up the car with a title. So, I had to travel 800 km twice. I made a deposit on Saturday and only picked it up from the dealership on Wednesday. I think this is some kind of chaos.

You come to the salon with money, you’re already thinking about how you’ll leave with it, and they kick you for five days. Yes, something like that, what if I change my mind or freak out and buy a used one. In general they don't care about the client. My opinion.

To be honest, I didn't even take it for a test drive. It’s still cheaper to buy a new car, but there was only enough money for it. Don't forget, we'll sweep away the used ones. In general, the Granta liftback color is planet blue. The PTS says bright blue. Equipped with power steering, front power windows, air conditioning, rear wiper, two rear headrests, maybe something else. 87hp 8th grade mechanics. There wasn't enough money for 16kl. And I wanted it that way.

At the dawn of release, Grants could not boast of sound insulation even if they were rated satisfactory. Later, the plant introduced an expanded Shumka package for expensive trim levels, and now it is included in all versions. And rightly so: the budget Lada, even in the luxury version, is by no means quiet - where else can you save?

For its price, Granta has acceptable sound insulation. Nothing outstanding, but compared to similar cars from the first releases - heaven and earth! So, if you have a pre-restyling car, this may be one of the reasons for replacement.

Impression

In general, I got in, drove out of the car dealership, drove about 10 kilometers and became depressed. I don’t even want to describe my feelings. I immediately took it to armor the front part with anti-chip film. I had to part with the car for another day; I didn’t even drive an hour. The next day I took it, somehow my soul felt happier, I don’t know why.

I forgot to write, the car itself is 502,500 rubles. + 10,000 anticorrosive with fender liners. The dealer installed everything himself before the sale. Therefore, when I arrived, they had already announced a price of 512,500 rubles with these extras. And I didn’t resist. Anticorrosive throughout the bottom and arches is good.

Well, now about the car: the car itself looks okay, but it seems to me that it could be a little wider and a little lower, otherwise it looks somehow awkward from the back. The engine is still being run-in, there’s not much to say yet; in the city it’s quite enough, but on the highway uphill it’s hard for it. Even trucks overtook me up the hill.

Well, I think after the break-in everything will be fixed. I try not to give it more than 3,000 rpm, and on the highway it’s 110 and no more. The gearbox on the new Grant howls—it howls in all gears. The gears are still a little hard to engage, well, everything will probably get used to it.

The noise is average - nothing new here. Somewhere in the front side windows the wind is blowing at speed, you can hear it quite well. The smell in the cabin is, of course, terrible. Everything rattles little by little, something in the panel, in the doors, the rear windows, when closed, also rattle, the front windows, if opened 2-4 cm, also rattle.

The fit is a little high for my height of 192 cm. I would like it lower, but there are no options. Luxury ones have seats with seat height adjustment. I didn't like the instrument panel. The orange scale is not for everyone, and you can’t change the backlight.

There is a lot of space on the dashboard, but it is not used as it should. For example, temp. engine, air temperature, mileage before refueling, gasoline consumption, on-board network voltage, everything could be displayed in a column, but no, you can only set one parameter on the display.

And if you need to look at another one, you have to switch the wiper lever on the joystick. It's annoying, to be honest. Also in the tidy, the edging of the rings is glossy black; something often shines on it. I often get distracted by this, thinking that something is on the display.

The suspension on the new Lada Granta liftback 2022 is quite decent. Maybe it's just new. Pits, bumps - everything works out. The only thing, I already said, is that it’s a little lower, but so far there are no complaints about the suspension.

We decided to find the differences between the two Granta bodies and started with safety. The creators carefully approached the issue of revising the body design. Since the hatchback is inferior to the sedan in terms of resistance to lateral loads, it was decided to strengthen the roof, arches and wings, and increase the overall thickness of the floor sheet. If you compare the Lada Granta with the Samara, which the liftback replaced in the AvtoVAZ model range, the body has become twice as rigid, and accordingly, the model has become safer.

Together with Renault-Nissan specialists, the luxury car has a modernized suspension with gas-filled shock absorbers, thicker stabilizers and stiffer springs. Other trim levels come with the standard sedan suspension.

One of the main distinguishing features of the Lada Granta is the spacious trunk for both a liftback and a hatchback. And although at first glance it is smaller than that of the sedan - 480 versus 440 liters, when folding the rear seats its volume increases by more than one and a half times (760 liters). These figures significantly exceed those of the Lada Kalina, the trunk limit of which stops at 670 liters.


The interior of the Lada Granta has remained virtually unchanged compared to its sedan predecessor. The same console, instrument panel, the same seats. There is enough space in the back seat for three passengers to feel quite comfortable. The only question is the space above your head. If your height is 190 cm or less, you will be comfortable, but taller passengers will find the car uncomfortable.


When conducting test drives of the Lada Granta liftback, many drivers noted that the combination of a powerful engine and relatively low weight (1070 kg) provides decent dynamics for an inexpensive car. The main thing is not to accelerate the car above 150 km/h, since handling and directional stability at top speeds are not at all impressive. With a quiet ride, thanks to the elastic suspension, which is optimal for our roads, the Lada Granta leaves the most pleasant impression.


The brakes can also be praised with flattering words, both during emergency and normal braking. But the advertised sound insulation raises complaints: when driving dynamically, the cabin is noisy, and you have to speak much louder to have a conversation. Installing additional sound insulation will solve the problem.

Average fuel consumption in the city with a manual transmission is 7.9 liters per hundred kilometers, while on the highway it is one liter less. “Automatic”, of course, is more voracious: on average 9.6 liters per hundred kilometers in the city and 8.5 on the highway. However, these are quite modest figures.

To summarize, we can say that, despite certain shortcomings, the Lada Granta liftback fully justifies its price and has every chance of becoming a bestseller among economy class models. Finally, video review of the Lada Granta hatchback:

The appearance did not deceive expectations: the car really looks great, especially in profile. Surprisingly, not just anyone, but AVTOVAZ managed to make a car with such a body and such dimensions harmonious. It’s a tempting idea to create a B-class that will be both beautiful and roomy. Tempting and complex. The VAZ team succeeded – not an ounce of heaviness, exactly the opposite: a swift, light silhouette, complemented by a couple of important details.

Firstly, the “tightened” front bumper looks nice, modern and “more expensive” than the previous one. Secondly, the same is true for the new mirrors with integrated turn signals (in Lux), which, among other things, no longer cause aerodynamic noise at high speeds.

Take a look again: the almost perfect roof line, falling towards the edge of the trunk, so clearly echoing the window sill line rising towards the stern. Such simple remedies and such adequate results. AVTOVAZ, why didn’t you do this before?! And behind the beautiful facade there is a very functional interior hidden.

Of course, when you get into this liftback, you get into Granta. Inexpensive plastic, inconvenient “twist” of the multimedia complex, the inability to put a half-liter bottle of mineral water in the cup holder and change gears of “mechanics”, a compromise “budget” driving position... There is no engine temperature indicator (however, it will appear on cars of the next model year), and the new gearshift lever knob looks a little clumsy and is not very convenient to handle - it’s a bit large...

However, it will be easy for consumers of products under the Lada brand to get used to all this - these are not such shortcomings compared to what journalists wrote about in the context of AVTOVAZ several years ago. Yes, the rear headrests still have to be removed when folding the “sofa” (and the designers probably can’t get away with this), but after you’ve found a place for them in the cabin...

That very moment when the car does not deceive for the second time, but rather exceeds expectations. Looking at the huge area with a flat floor, everyone will think about their own: a student - about a pleasant evening on the river bank in the company of a girlfriend, a pensioner - about almost ripened seedlings on the windowsill, eager to move to the country... The trunk volume, even with the back of the rear seat raised, is 440 liters . This is almost the same as the sedan, much more than the Kalina hatch, and (attention!) more than the Kalina station wagon! And at the same time, despite the sloping roof, people with a height of “180+” sit quietly in the back.

How does she drive? You can say “like Grant,” but in fact there are several options for answering this question. We tried different versions of the liftback, and this is what we came up with. The manual transmission has once again been slightly modified, the gears are now engaged a little more clearly, but the innate hum of the gears has not been eliminated. In addition, the wheel arches are severely lacking in sound insulation.

But the liftback has a luxury version with gas-filled struts, which make the car noticeably stiffer on bumps, but also much less rolly in corners. I wish the steering wheel had a little more feedback, but even here the design possibilities for improvement have already been selected to the maximum - an increased caster angle, revised characteristics of the elements, and negative rear camber too...

But the Granta is hardly a driver’s car in principle (if you don’t consider a completely separate Sport version), so all other versions, except the luxury one, have ordinary “oil” struts that will cope perfectly with country potholes and other vicissitudes of fate.

On the other hand, if we compare the liftback with the sedan, the difference in the “drive” is obvious: the car has become more composed, in a fast turn it is not so prone to skidding the rear and is more similar to the exemplary (if we keep in mind the Lada line) Kalina, whose turning ability is close to neutral. Budget tires LingLong also brought a surprise - of course, they start squealing early, but at the same time they hold tenaciously (just don’t go to the Nurburgring on them), and in addition, they work well as an addition to suspension elements when driving over uneven surfaces.

In general, there are no complaints about the power units - AVTOVAZ has always been able to make good engines, the rule “do no harm” applies here. No harm done - the 106-horsepower engine, combined with a manual transmission, perfectly pulls the car up on a slight incline in fifth gear, and the traction reserve is enough to overtake a strainingly crawling truck without resorting to shifts. With a 98 hp engine, which was “made friends” with the Japanese Jatco automatic transmission, the Granta is a little slower in accelerating to “hundreds”, but within one second, so the subjective sensations are pleasant.

True, such a Grant is unlikely to shine in terms of efficiency - it is extremely difficult to get a consumption of less than 12 l/100 km. But in general, the “automatic” option is so cool (with it, honestly, I want to throw out of my head the thoughts that mechanics are labor, and two-pedal cars are for girls), that with a difference of 2 or 3 liters per 100 km you can come to terms with it. In the end, you have to pay for everything. And you must agree that an automatic transmission in this segment is not even a rarity, but an almost unprecedented luxury. By the way, the “automatic” option is noticeably more expensive. But such cars already have a buyer.

Liftbacks, like sedans, are equipped with the latest generation Bosch ABS with the BA emergency braking function, and in the luxury version they are complemented with the ESP exchange rate stability system. In addition to active safety, there is passive safety - low-cost versions have one airbag, while “normal” and luxury versions have two. Thank God, we didn’t test the airbags, but the ABS works correctly, if not intelligently – not a hint of the rough “jackhammer” in the brake pedal on the first Grants.

What about the brakes themselves? I have something to compare with - after all, the first generation Kalina was the family car for seven years. Yes, they have become better - the “vacuum unit” was improved jointly with Renault-Nissan, so the pedal travel has been reduced, and the force increases more smoothly. You start to think “almost like a foreign car,” and then you remember Largus, which is also a Lada and, at the same time, indeed, albeit a budget one, but a “foreign car.” That's where the brakes are. There is a pendant. There is plastic, which is just as cheap, but creaks less after a few thousand kilometers... In general, the Lada brand still clearly has room to grow.

So a Lada Granta in a liftback body means really high expectations. The expectations of the factory workers themselves - before launching completely new models, it is so important to have a strong springboard. Journalists' expectations - is this really the AVTOVAZ that could do it? And this is also consumer expectations. The car will definitely find its buyer. She will be appreciated. She is a very adequate “today” of the domestic automobile industry.

Having absorbed the Kalina family, the Lada Granta began to be offered in four body types (sedan, hatchback, liftback, station wagon). A fifth one will appear soon - a pseudo-crossover based on a station wagon. No one else in the class has such an assortment.

The Granta update is immediately noticeable when viewed from the front, but from other angles and in the interior, the results of the work done are not so obvious. There are many differences, although everything was done with little blood. For example, they didn’t spend money on a new dashboard - they took it from the discontinued Kalina with minimal modifications.

The instrument cluster has been updated to match the latest Lada innovations. Granta now has radial digitization and orange accents. The old-fashioned display with a green background has given way to stylish black and white. The interior lighting is LED, and the lampshade is combined with an emergency call button. They didn’t even forget about the seat upholstery - it now has a different pattern. It seems like a trifle, but against its background the pre-restyling Grant seems like an alien from the distant past.
