Removing the upholstery
In order to gain access to the lock mechanism, it is necessary to remove the door trim. To do this, do the following:
- A pair of screws are unscrewed at the top of the door near the trim;
- The decorative plugs at the bottom of the handle are removed and a couple more screws are unscrewed;
- The power wires (blocks) are disconnected from the power window buttons;
- The handle retracts to the side;
- The screws are unscrewed and the plastic pocket located at the bottom is removed;
- The internal door handle is dismantled by turning 90 degrees; to do this, the fixing screws are first unscrewed;
- The speaker is unscrewed and the supply wires (block) are disconnected from it;
- When all the fixing elements have been removed, you can carefully remove the upholstery fasteners from the bottom up;
- The sheathing is removed from the insulation and the door blocking button is removed.
After all the steps taken, you can proceed to removing the faulty lock.
Dismantling the lock
To remove a faulty Niva Chevrolet door lock you must:
- Disconnect the rod holders from the lock levers;
- The screws that secure the assembly are unscrewed;
- The old mechanism is removed from the door;
- The wires are disconnected;
- Plastic clamps are replaced on the new part, thanks to which the rods are fastened;
- A new mechanism is installed back.
It is important to remember that when installing the rods to the lock, the rod that is fixed closer to the electronic drive must be inserted not only into the lock, but also threaded with the end into the rod; this is the only way the lock will work as it should. When all work on installing the lock has been completed, the door trim is reinstalled. Before assembly, you should make sure that all fastening pistons are present and located correctly. In order to eliminate extraneous noise that appears from vibration of the speakers, you can add a seal.

What causes the lock to stop working?
The problem practically bypasses Nivas operating in the city. But for those who often drive on country roads, the problem will be very familiar. In any case, they already know what to do, but this article was written for those who are encountering this for the first time.
First of all, this is dust that gets clogged under the door trim. During operation, dust accumulates and causes the lock mechanism to jam. As a result, the central locking does not work. But the larva will stop working first. Eventually, the lock stops locking with both the key and the key fob.
It is recommended to constantly check that the trunk door is closed before leaving the car. This malfunction occurs suddenly and many car owners have had their cars left open to thieves for years.

Installation of silent locks
Unexpectedly, the key was blocked in the ignition switch, it is put in the first ignition position, and in the second the starter does not turn the key, even for the life of me. This procedure gave rise to the idea that a gang of illegal proctologists was working at AvtoVAZ, because to a normal person with hands that grow from natural places and with normal fingers, the manipulations seemed incredibly difficult. After the key is inserted, they retract and do not interfere with rotation.
Emergency opening of apartments, cars, garages, etc. in Abakan and Khakassia.
This is what such a bolt looks like, it goes to the cone.
Electrical equipment Replacing a faulty ignition switch on a Niva Chevrolet First, you need to remove the protective cover from the steering column and the protective coupling - the rubber ring around the lock.
It is secured with 4 breakaway bolts, which are specifically designed to make it more difficult to steal a car. Therefore, if you are not going to repair the lock itself, but simply decided to replace it, then do not forget to buy 4 tear-off bolts!
That is, they are easy to tighten; the caps have hexagonal key heads, which, at a certain tightening torque, break and a round cap remains. This is what we will need to unscrew, as many as 4 pieces. It turns out that putting it on is easy, but taking it off is difficult. And this is the true truth, believe me. For some it will take 10 minutes, for others it will take 2 hours, and they can’t remove it, but simply cut off the bolts with a chisel.
Why doesn't the back door of a Niva Chevrolet open?
The Chevrolet Niva is equipped with a standard central lock; therefore, each of the five doors has an actuator that unlocks the lock when the central device is activated.
However, as practice shows, electronics are not at all involved in problems with locks.
In 99% of cases, the problem is still in the mechanics , either in the lock itself, or in damage to the rods. We will not consider cases where the door freezes to the body; this is an exception, but most often the owners are let down by the lock.
Broken lock rod (rod is bent)
The rear door lock rod is marked with an arrow.
There are often cases when the lock rods bend not due to improper assembly (although this is possible), but due to the banal entry of dirt into the door cavity.
It all happens something like this: the protective polyethylene film can peel off from the door frame in some places, and because of this, dust gets into the door cavity. Everything would be fine, but dust accumulates not only at the bottom of the cavity, but also on the levers of the lock itself. One fine moment we go to the car wash or get caught in a heavy downpour, the dust turns into dirt and limits the working strokes of the lock.
Trying to open the door with the handle, we make more and more effort, as a result of which the rod bends. It bends until the central locking actuator simply does not have enough movement to unlock the door. Even straightening the thrust, we will not achieve anything.
The rear door is without trim.
There is only one way out in this situation - dismantling the door card, aligning the rods, dismantling, lubricating and cleaning the lock. Moreover, the sooner you do this, the less likely you are to end up with a completely blocked rear door.
Design features, or tricky spring
Jammed trunk lock on a Niva Chevrolet
The rear door lock on the Chevrolet Niva does not have particularly complex mechanisms. The lock is ordinary, it works according to the VAZ principle, the only difference is that it is locked and unlocked by an actuator. Actuators also fail, but this happens extremely rarely. And even in this case, it is always possible to open or close the door manually.
However, this system also has nuances - if you activate the central locking with any door open at least one click, the lock of both the rear and any other door may jam.
Tricky spring.
In most cases, it's all about the spring in the housing , which loads one of the rear door lock levers. Probably, the steel from which the spring is made does not meet the operating conditions, so the spring tendrils often break off . As a result, one of the lock levers lives its own life - it wants, it will lock the lock, it wants, it will open the door on the move. It’s an unpleasant story, so at the first whims of the lock or its drive, it’s worth removing it and eliminating the cause.
What could be the reason that the door does not open?
The Chevrolet Niva is equipped with a central lock, so each door has an additional device - an actuator. It is responsible for blocking the door lock when a signal is received from the central locking system. But in most cases this is not the cause of failure. If the door of a Niva Chevrolet Niva does not open, then in about 85% the problem lies in damage to the rods or lock. In winter, the door may freeze to the body due to the formation of condensation on the seal or moisture ingress after washing. But these cases are not a breakdown and go away on their own over time.
Spring failure
If cracks and serious mechanical damage appear in the spring, there is a high probability that the lock will also fail . In such a situation, one of the levers that operates inside the machine is overloaded. The tendrils of the spring break off, after which the lever with which the clutch is organized becomes completely unpredictable.
Even complete blocking in this case does not protect the doors from opening while moving . Springs that were originally made from low quality material are more susceptible to defects. An incorrectly selected metal grade can also affect further operation. Even if it is only a passenger type of design.
Step-by-step repair of the mechanism is as follows:
- The rear door trim is removed.
- Study the settings.
- Change or reinstall parts.
Castle repair
Before you begin the repair, you must remove the outer panel that hides this lock. For any work, it is recommended to remove the negative terminal from the battery. For repairs you will need the following tools:
- crosshead screwdriver;
- flat-head screwdriver with wide tip;
- set of clips;
- a clip holder or wooden wedge for unfastening the pins.
Experienced locksmiths wrap a flat-head screwdriver in a rag when they unfasten the door pins and push the tool under the door trim. During work, half of the plastic caps on Niva fail. Before installing the casing, you must remove them from the panel and replace them with new ones.
The process of dismantling the front door trim from a Chevrolet Niva
There are various reasons why there is a need to carry out such work . For example, when repairing a door mechanism or installing additional speakers. The work is easy to do yourself, you just need to spend some time studying the nuances.
The procedure is not at all complicated.
- The inner handle has two plugs; under them there are mounting screws for this design. To remove the plugs, just poke at the structure with a sharp object.
- Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws from the armrest, and the latter is removed.
- Three screws hold a special pocket on the plastic, with which you can store various items inside. The screws themselves are located at the bottom.
- The plastic cover of the handle for opening the door is dismantled next. The handle is unscrewed, then the screw inside is removed. Remove the decorative trim by pulling part of the part towards you. The main thing is that the trunk is not damaged.
What is the door trim of the Niva Chevrolet
As a rule, the casing in any car is made of plastic . It hides the inner parts of the doors in the car. There may be other decorative elements on top of the plastic parts.
The product has several main functions:
- Installation of speakers, storage of small items inside special pockets.
- Reduced external noise levels inside the cabin.
- Place for mounting a handle that opens and closes the door.
- Creating an attractive appearance and a certain style.
- Hiding the metal base of a Niva Chevrolet, how to remove the front door trim - everyone can figure it out.
The process of removing the trim from the rear door
Painting, straightening, any welding work - these are situations in which it is necessary to remove the rear door . Or this is done in the case when the presence of such an element interferes with the organization of any other work.
First, prepare the necessary set of tools. Then they move on to the actions themselves, the sequence of which is standard :
- The minus terminal is disconnected from the battery to de-energize the entire vehicle. The driver's steering wheel is no exception. The bolts securing the door opening limiter are unscrewed with a ten-point socket.
- Rubber protection elements are removed from the wires that fit under the door. By squeezing the plastic clamp, the pads are disconnected from each other.
The retaining clips are removed from the door hinges using a flathead screwdriver . It is quite easy to pry the indicated space with it.
The door must be pulled up along the axes with a hinge to be removed from its place . At this stage, the repair work can be considered almost complete. Installation is in reverse order. The door mechanism is checked for functionality.

Installation of the part on the door
To dismantle the door fragment and replace the closing mechanism, it is important to prepare a place with a socket and a vice, as well as a set of tools:
- wrench;
- drill;
- hammer;
- drill;
- pliers;
- short screws;
- Screwdriver Set.
The body rim cover is sold together with the lock. After the inner lining has been dismantled and the device has been removed, the main part of the Euro-lock is inserted into the door. It is important to tighten the fasteners well. Two holes are drilled in the rack to install the cover plate. The element is fastened with hardware. If the built-in niche for the latch protrudes a little, it can be filed or tapped with a hammer. The edges of the screws are also filed.
What is the Chevrolet Niva door trim and its purpose?
The Chevrolet Niva lining has a standard appearance, but over time, natural wear and tear of the material occurs. Removing the rear door trim of a Niva Chevrolet will be required after an accident, mechanical damage to the door structure from the inside, or a desire to update the interior. The main purpose of the fabric element is to close the metal structure of the door, which contains electrical wiring and sound-proofing material.
The upholstery improves the appearance of the vehicle and makes the interior more cozy and comfortable.
Dismantling is recommended in cases where it is required:
- replacing the material with a new one due to stains, abrasions or damage;
- checking the functionality of electrical wiring, power windows, rear-view mirrors;
- installing speakers, disassembling a door handle or lock;
- replacing the clips that hold the panel, they are plastic and dry out over time;
- improvement of sound insulation, increasing the level of vibration protection.
Fabric inserts are found not only on the rear/front doors, but also in the trunk area. If removal does not involve replacement, then it is not necessary to completely remove the decorative panel from the door. It is enough to unfasten a few clips to gain access to the niche. During the replacement, it is possible to carry out a small auto-tuning of the interior.

At first there was such a problem, then it would close and you couldn’t open it, then it would open on its own while moving... after the last failure to open with the neighbor in the garage: he pulled from the outside, I kicked from the inside. But the problem turned out to be in the guide, which is at the end of the door, it was wedged... I adjusted it and lost it without any problems, but I also wanted to disassemble the lock and climb through the trim.
I could clearly see how the whole door was frozen, at the edges, I took hot water and poured it all around the door, pulling the handle within reason, after 15 minutes it opened)))
Move the lock button inside which. Up down. Sometimes passengers pull the handle when the electric lock is activated and the door jams.
I had such crap, but everything turned out to be prosaic - I pinched the door in the area of the lock, which was lying in the trunk, and the door was clamped tightly. He reclined the seat and dragged the blanket into the cabin. He tore off the corner, but then he opened the door ☺
There was such a mess, the plastic rod on the lock turned out to have fallen off. I took the trim off and stuck it back in.
bullshit. you have to do it in a brutal way - take an ax and do some shit in the area of the castle! should open in a while!
Yeah after the second rub)))))
well, maybe after the third... you don’t need much there!))))
After the third one I’ll be cutting down the tank)))
I had similar nonsense, I removed the paneling from the inside and moved the rods with my hands and opened it. Then I made an extra spring and spilled water all over it. And I did this with almost every castle. Because there are often problems with opening.
Try to press in the area of the lock (next to the handle) with your hands (to close the door) and then try to open it. It opened for me the second time.
They write to you correctly, fold the rear seats, press down with your foot, and let someone from the street pull the handle, it should open 100%, then fill everything heavily with WD 40 so that everything will flow, my door is jammed due to the dust that has accumulated there, the lock After that I didn’t change it, I spray it more often with VD and everything is good.
The mechanism inside may have become covered. It is inexpensive, around 500 rubles. If it is, when purchasing, pay more attention to the connector and number of wires
brace yourself) if it doesn’t thaw in the warm box and won’t open, if you push and pull in different directions, then... lower the rear seats, climb into the trunk and try to help apply pressure from there. If it doesn’t help, remove the upholstery and look at the rods. You can push the rod out and apply the same pressure and open the door.
and once you open it, either lubricate the lock with WD-40 (it will help against jamming, but not for long), it’s better to replace the entire lock
The four-door body of the Niva Chevrolet, in comparison with the Niva 2121, looked like just a limousine. What a shame it is for Shnivy owners when this body turns into a three-door. What to do when the back door on a Chevrolet Niva does not open, we will consider the reasons and solutions to the situation right now.
Removing the rear door lock on a Chevrolet Niva for repairs
You will have to remove the rear door trim.
Even if the door no longer opens, you can easily get to the lock and unlock it, and then remove it and repair it. This is done like this:
- The rear door door card is removed even when the door is locked. First, unscrew the two screws from the bottom of the door card.
- Remove the window handle by bending the handle with a flat screwdriver and pulling the latch upward.
- Unscrew the screw securing the decorative trim under the door handle, pulling the handle towards you.
- The door card is held on by six pistons - two at the bottom, two at the center and two at the top. They snap off if you pry them with a long screwdriver. The door card can now be removed.
The decorative card has been removed.
Video about removing the lock on a Niva Chevrolet
Opening the door
The lock can be unlocked by pulling the plastic tab of the actuator or another lever; using a long screwdriver, you can move the lock latch itself.
When the door has opened, you can remove the lock, but before that you need to remove the negative terminal from the battery. The lock is held on by fastening screws at the end of the door.
Trunk door lock.
After removing them with a long screwdriver, you need to remove the drive rods, disconnect the terminal blocks and remove the lock from the door cavity along with the actuator . After this, when the lock is in hand, the reason will become visible. In extreme cases, the lock can be replaced. Good luck to everyone and obedient locks!
Initially, a Chevrolet Niva is equipped with a central lock that can remotely control opening. For this purpose, each of the 5 doors has a special device - an actuator. It is responsible for removing the lock when receiving a signal from the alarm system.
But in practice, most problems with opening the rear door are not at all related to the operation of electronic components.
In 95% of cases the problem is related to mechanical parts. This can be either the lock itself or the rods located inside. In some cases, this may be due to the fact that the Chevrolet Niva door seal freezes on a recently washed car. But in this case it is easy to determine the source of the problem, so further we will consider situations in which the problem mainly arises with the operation of the lock.
Unlocking the lock.
To open a locked door, you need to pull the plastic tongue of the actuator. You can also move the lock latch itself. After it is unlocked, you can remove the lock, but you must disconnect the battery terminals. The lock itself is held in place with screws at the end.
After they are unscrewed, you need to use a screwdriver to disconnect the rods and disconnect the terminals. Then you can pull the lock out of the case. Once it is pulled out, it is much easier to carry out an external inspection to determine the exact cause of the problem. If in doubt, it is better to immediately replace the part with a new one that will definitely be in working order.
Back door to the field
The traction is broken.
Basically, the rod can bend if it was assembled incorrectly. The problem can also appear if the car is often used in off-road conditions and dirt gets into the cavity. This can happen if the plastic film peels off from the door frame. In this case, dust may accumulate inside it.
During movement, dust settles not only at the bottom of the cavity, but also on all components, including the levers. After the car gets caught in the rain or washed, all the dust turns into dirt, firmly settling on the insides. As it accumulates, it leads to a decrease in the lock stroke, and at the moment when the passenger tries to open the door, great efforts have to be made. Because of this, the rod begins to bend over time. And at some point its progress is not enough to unlock it. Even after it is straightened, the integrity of the system will already be compromised and components will need to be replaced.
Broken lock rod
Incorrect assembly often causes the lock rod to bend . This also happens because dirt and water have gotten inside the door.
In some places, the protective polyethylene film peels off from the door frame . Which leads to dust getting inside. There are several places where it accumulates - at the bottom of the cavity, on the levers of the lock itself. Mixing with liquid makes the dust heavy and blocks the normal operation of the mechanisms. Any part can jam.
The rod bends due to the fact that the owner puts more and more effort into trying to open the door . After some time, the actuator simply does not have enough travel to make normal movements. In this case, even straightening the thrust no longer corrects the situation.
In this case, resort to the following solutions:
- Removing the door card.
- Repairing all rod damage.
- Dismantling along with lubrication and cleaning of the lock from the inside.
The sooner this is done, the better , then serious damage will not appear.
Spring failure.
Basically, the problem of lock failure lies in the fact that the tendrils of the spring break off, which loads the rear door lock lever. This occurs due to the use of low-quality steel in the production of the part or violations of operating conditions. In any case, such a breakdown leads to the fact that one of the lock levers begins to move in a random direction and it is impossible to predict whether the lock will open at the moment or not. There are even situations when the rear door lock of a Niva Chevrolet can open while driving. Therefore, you should not wait for unpleasant situations to arise and carry out repairs immediately if any problems arise with the lock.
What to do if the rod is broken or bent.
The rod may fail as a result of dirt getting inside the door. Even new cars are susceptible to this. Chevrolet Niva is usually operated in conditions where there are no roads, where there is a high risk of fine dust getting inside the door. But during rain, car wash or wet weather, this dust absorbs moisture and turns into dirt. It can also be bent as a result of improper installation, and subsequent exposure to it leads to its destruction over time.
If you try to force open a jammed door, there is a high chance of bending the rod even more. Eventually, the thrust stroke is greatly reduced and the actuator does not have enough movement to unlock. At the same time, even after straightening the rod, it already changes its length, limiting the stroke.
In this situation, only disassembling the door and replacing the rods with new ones can help. It is important to check the operation of the lock and lubricate it if necessary. If you notice a malfunction in time, it is better to do the work right away, without waiting until the door is completely blocked and more difficulties will arise with its disassembly.
Castle repair.
Before starting repairs, the door trim on the Niva Chevrolet must be removed. The door card can be removed even after the door is completely locked.
- After this, the window lifter handle is removed. To do this, use a flat-head screwdriver to bend it and pull the latch up.
- The decorative cover of the handle is removed. It is held on by latches; to disconnect it, you only need to pull it towards yourself with force, after prying it off with a flat-head screwdriver.
- The door card itself is held on pistons in the center, top and bottom of the door. They can also be snapped off by prying them off with a screwdriver.
Features of the Chevrolet Niva door
The back door of the car is quite simple. The lock built into it is similar in design to that installed on the VAZ model. If the actuators fail, you can open them manually.
Important features of the system: if you activate the central locking when one of the doors is slightly open, the system may jam, and it will not necessarily be the one that was not closed properly.
This may be a result of the spring jamming in the lock body. This results from the fact that the steel from which it is made may not withstand the operating conditions of the car. As a result, the tendrils of the spring may break off, and the lock will start working after a while. Symptoms, as a rule, can be different, up to the door opening on the move.
Door repair work is quite simple.
First you need to completely remove the decorative trim. This is easy to do even with a locked door. All you need to do is follow a few simple steps:
- The screws at the bottom of the door card are unscrewed.
