How to replace the cabin filter in a Hyundai Solaris car

The cabin filter, present in the design of the Hyundai Solaris car, cleans the air entering the car. The consumable loses its capacity over time, as the work area gradually becomes clogged with dust and debris.

Cabin filters used on Hyundai Solaris

To solve the problem, periodic replacement of the purifier is required. Changing the cabin filter with your own hands is not so difficult, and if problems arise, you can always watch the corresponding thematic video.

Location of the cabin filter in Hyundai Solaris

Car manufacturers typically place cabin air filters in three places: under the hood, behind the glove compartment, or near the pedals. The Hyundai Solaris model is no exception. The cabin filter is located behind the glove compartment. This means that in the entire line of the manufacturer - Solaris models 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2022, 2022 and 2022, the cabin filter is located in the same place.

Filter selection

The choice of a cabin filter should be taken quite seriously, since this will determine how high-quality the air filtration in the cabin will be, as well as the direct impact on the human body.

971330C000 is the original catalog number of the Hyundai Solaris cabin filter. Also, there is another number - 971334L000, by which you can search for the part. The cost of the element is 750 rubles.

In addition to the original part, there are quite a large number of analogues:

Manufacturer's name vendor code Cost in rubles
Toko T1403024 300
Stellox 71-10219-SX 300
Goodwill AG 513 CF 300
Pilenga FA-P 4707 450
BIG Filter GB9910C 450
Goodwill AG 156 CFC 450
Blue Print ADG02581 700
LYNXauto LAC-105C 700

Nuances when you need to change the filter

For any brand of car, including Hyundai Solaris, it is recommended to change the cabin filter twice a year: in autumn and spring. Why is that?

Because it changes after the winter period, when dirt mixed with water has accumulated in it and it is forgotten and does not allow air to pass through well. Before winter, because in summer there is a lot of dust and dirt on the roads and the filter involuntarily gets clogged.

The cabin filter is changed because dust and foreign objects that enter the car interior are automatically inhaled by a person, and this can have a detrimental effect on health. This air can cause quite a lot of diseases, including cancer and pneumonia, so you shouldn’t skimp on your health and the health of your passengers.

Replacement frequency

The operating instructions contain the following information on replacing the filter element - it needs to be changed every 15 thousand kilometers.

However, due to environmental conditions, road dust, it is best to change once every 7-10 thousand km or once a season.

You can find out when you need to replace the cabin filter using the following parameters:

  1. Car windows begin to fog up heavily in rainy or winter weather.
  2. Unpleasant smell of mold or dampness inside the cabin.
  3. Dust on the windshield and instrument panel.
  4. Insufficient heating or cooling of the interior using climate control.

If at least one of these signs is present, you need to replace the filter element, having first read the instructions for changing the cabin filter on a Hyundai Solaris.

When to change, what interior to install

To perform scheduled maintenance operations, there are regulations, as well as manufacturer recommendations. According to them, replacing the cabin filter of the Hyundai Solaris 2 (HCr) heating and air conditioning system should be done every 15,000 kilometers or once a year.

Considering that the operating conditions of the car in most cases will be far from ideal, experts advise performing this operation approximately twice as often, in spring and autumn.

Characteristic symptoms:

  1. Windows often fog up;
  2. the appearance of unpleasant odors in the cabin when the airflow is turned on;
  3. deterioration of the stove and air conditioner;

They may make you doubt that the filter element is coping with its tasks and an unscheduled replacement will be required. In principle, these symptoms should be relied upon when choosing the correct replacement interval.

Suitable sizes

When choosing a filter element, owners do not always use products recommended by the car manufacturer. Everyone has their own reasons for this, some say that the original is unreasonably expensive. Some people in the region sell only analogues, so there is a need to know the sizes by which you can subsequently make a selection:

  • Height: 28 mm
  • Width: 200 mm
  • Length: 225 mm

As a rule, sometimes analogues for Hyundai Solaris II can be a few millimeters larger or smaller than the original, there is nothing wrong with that. And if the difference is measured in centimeters, then of course it’s worth looking for another option.

Selecting an original cabin filter

The manufacturer recommends using exclusively original consumables, which, in general, is not surprising. They themselves are of good quality and are widely available in car dealerships, but their price may seem overpriced to many car owners.

Regardless of the configuration, on all second-generation Hyundai Solaris (including the restyled version), the manufacturer recommends installing a cabin air filter with article number 97133-D1000. You can also use the element under article number 97133-D3000; it is a complete analogue of 97133D1000 in quality and size.

It is worth noting that sometimes consumables and other spare parts may be supplied to dealerships under different part numbers. Which can sometimes confuse those who want to purchase an original product.

When choosing between a dust and carbon product, car owners are advised to use a carbon filter element. This filter is more expensive, but it cleans the air much better.

It is easy to distinguish - the paper filter accordion is impregnated with a carbon composition, and therefore has a dark gray color. The filter cleans the air flow from dust, fine dirt, germs, bacteria and enhances the protection of your lungs.

Which analogues to choose

In addition to simple cabin filters, there are also carbon filters that filter the air more effectively, but they are more expensive. The advantage of coal SF is that it does not allow foreign odors coming from the road (street) to penetrate into the car interior.

But this filter element also has a drawback - air does not pass through it well. GodWill and Corteco carbon filters are of fairly high quality and are a good replacement for the original.

However, in some retail outlets the price of the original cabin filter for the second generation Hyundai Solaris may be greatly inflated. In this case, it makes sense to purchase a non-original consumable item. In particular, cabin filters are considered quite popular:

Conventional dust cabin filters

  • Mann Filter CU23019 – high-tech consumables from a well-known manufacturer
  • BIG filter GB-98028 – popular brand, good fine cleaning
  • Nevsky filter NF6548 - Russian manufacturer with an affordable price

Carbon cabin filters

  • Mann Filter CUK23019/1 – high-quality and thick carbon coating
  • BIG filter GB-98028/C – activated carbon
  • Nevsky filter NF6548C – normal quality, affordable price

It makes sense to take a closer look at the products of other companies - they also specialize in the production of high-quality consumables for passenger cars:

  • Corteco
  • Filtron
  • SCT
  • Sakura
  • GoodWill
  • Fram
  • JS Asakashi
  • Champion
  • Zekkert
  • Masuma
  • Nipparts
  • Purflux
  • Knecht Mahle

It is quite possible that sellers may recommend replacing the Solaris II cabin filter with non-original cheap substitutes with a much smaller thickness. They are not worth buying, since their filtering characteristics are unlikely to be at the proper level.

Why do you need to replace the filter?

Replacing this element is necessary to maintain clean air inside the car. If the filter element is dirty, it will contain bacteria, dust, parts of leaves, and fluff. During operation, a layer of dirt and dust forms on it, which is harmful to the respiratory tract. Such a “fur coat” also negatively affects the operation of climate control.

In spring and autumn, wet particles settle on the filter. There is a smell of mold and dampness inside the cabin.

The design of the filter element and its varieties

Since the only function of the cabin filter is to filter polluted air and clean it, the design of this part is not complicated. The cabin filter consists of only three simple parts: a housing, a mesh for coarse cleaning and the paper filter element itself.

The auto parts market offers a large number of consumables, among which filters occupy a significant segment. Hyundai Solaris has become a truly “people’s” car, which is why a large number of companies now offer to buy their products.

You can buy an inexpensive paper cabin filter, or you can buy a more reliable, but less expensive carbon one. However, it is advisable to buy an original product for Hyundai Solaris, as at least it will not harm the car.

How to choose the right cabin filter?

When a car owner selects parts for repair or maintenance, he must take into account the following points:

  1. Vehicle VIN.
  2. The name of the manufacturer and the quality of its products.

By observing the above features, you can choose a high-quality cabin filter. The Solaris model with 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter engines contains the same filter element in size and shape.

To purchase a part that fits your car, you need to base it on the VIN number. This number is usually indicated on the front of the body behind the driver's door, under the glass and on the engine under the hood. Also, all the necessary data can be found in the plastic vehicle registration certificate.

Important! If the filter is purchased online, the marketplace usually requires the VIN in order to locate the correct part. When purchasing from an authorized dealer or car dealership, you must provide the seller with a VIN number to check compatibility.

Filter types

Filter elements differ in the number of layers, type of filler and the presence of carbon impregnation:

  1. Single layer filters. Protect only from insects and large particles. Its cost is relatively inexpensive, but it needs to be replaced quite often.
  2. Filter with two layers. This element protects against finer dust and odor. Replacement frequency is approximately once per season.
  3. Filter with three layers of carbon impregnation. The smallest particles of fluff and pollen are captured. The carbon layer promotes air ionization and protects against unpleasant odors penetrating into the cabin. This is the most expensive type of filter, however, and the highest quality for cleaning the air inside the cabin. Service life is one year.

Original

Original parts are made from high quality materials. Their resource is very long. Filter elements for Hyundai cars are made according to all requirements and quality standards. Any cabin filter is supplied without a frame; it is simply inserted into an existing one.

High-quality filter elements include products from the following companies:

  • Mann;
  • Bosch;
  • Denso;
  • Mahle;
  • AMD.

This is not the entire list, but the highest quality filter elements from these manufacturers.

Analogs

Original components are not always affordable for car owners. Analogues are often 2-3 times cheaper, however, the quality is also at the same level. European manufacturers boast a carbon layer and a durable frame, while the cheap version often breaks during installation.

Those manufacturers listed above should be used in Hyundai Solaris cars.

You should not install a cabin filter from an unknown manufacturer to avoid unpleasant odors, insufficient air circulation and other problems.

Selecting the type of cabin filter by article number

Purchasing this spare part is not difficult. You need to choose a more suitable price category for yourself.

Original

The original version of the carbon filter is located under article number 971334L000 . The price per unit is quite high and amounts to 470–550 rubles .

It is possible to use analogues that are several times cheaper. There is much more choice here.

How to replace the Hyundai Solaris filter with your own hands?

To remove the filter and change it, you need to disassemble the glove compartment. To do this you need to follow the algorithm of actions:

  1. Open the glove compartment and empty it of its contents.
  2. Unscrew the plastic plugs located inside on the walls.
  3. Lower the glove compartment lid.
  4. Press the clamp and remove the filter cover.
  5. Remove the filter element.
  6. Install a new filter. When installing, pay attention to the direction of the air flow arrow.
  7. Reassemble the elements in reverse order.

With regular maintenance from an official dealer, the work of changing the cabin filter on a Hyundai Solaris is quite expensive - 1500-2000 rubles.

Various manufacturers and types of filters allow you to choose any option for your car. This can be an expensive or cheap filter element of varying degrees of quality. Timely replacement will eliminate the hassle of climate control and give the air inside the car the necessary purity.

Stages of replacing the Hyundai Solaris filter element

Compared to most other cars, replacing the cabin filter in the Hyundai Solaris 2 is relatively simple. No special preparation is required for this operation. All you need is the new filter element itself.

It is pointless to dispute the benefits of salon tea, especially when it comes to coal ones. Therefore, it is not surprising that self-installation of filters on cars has become common. This is a routine and fairly simple periodic maintenance procedure; there is nothing complicated about it.

According to the regulations, replacement of the cabin filter is provided every 15,000 km, that is, every scheduled maintenance. However, depending on the operating conditions of the vehicle, the replacement period can be reduced to 8-10 t.km. mileage The more often you change the filter in the cabin, the cleaner the air will be and the better the air conditioner or heater will work.

The second generation was produced from 2022 to 2022, as well as restyled versions from 2022 to the present time.

Replacing the cabin filter on a Hyundai Solaris 2 (HCR) is a routine procedure that will not cause difficulties even for car owners who are not well versed in car maintenance. It’s quite easy to do it yourself, and it won’t take much time.

Where is

Car manufacturers typically place cabin air filters in three places: under the hood, behind the glove compartment, or near the pedals. The Hyundai Solaris model is no exception. The cabin filter is located behind the glove compartment. This means that in the entire line of the manufacturer - Solaris models 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2022, 2022 and 2022, the cabin filter is located in the same place.

The cabin filter of Hyundai Solaris 1 is located behind the glove compartment shelf, which makes it difficult to get to it. To remove this obstacle, you need to open the glove compartment and then proceed according to the instructions described below.

The filter element makes the ride comfortable, so there is no need to neglect replacing it. Much less dust will accumulate in the cabin. If you use carbon filtration, the air quality inside the car will become even noticeably better.

Removing and installing a new filter element

To remove the filter and change it, you need to disassemble the glove compartment. To do this you need to follow the algorithm of actions:

  1. Open the glove compartment and empty it of its contents.
  2. Unscrew the plastic plugs located inside on the walls.
  3. Lower the glove compartment lid.
  4. Press the clamp and remove the filter cover.
  5. Remove the filter element.
  6. Install a new filter. When installing, pay attention to the direction of the air flow arrow.
  7. Reassemble the elements in reverse order.

Replacing the cabin filter of Hyundai Solaris 1 is a routine and fairly simple periodic maintenance procedure. There is nothing complicated about it, so replacing it yourself is quite simple.

To do this, we sit in the front passenger seat, opposite the glove compartment. After all, it is behind it that the installation location is located:

  1. Open the glove compartment to perform further actions (Fig. 1). Fig.1 Opening the glove compartment
  2. There are stopper plugs on the right and left sides of the glove box. They need to be turned counterclockwise, approximately 90°, after which we take them out and lower the glove compartment down (Fig. 2). Fig.2 Stopper plug
  3. Access to the installation site is open, now remove the plug. Squeeze the latches on the right and left sides, pull the plug towards you and put it aside (Fig. 3). Fig.3 Remove the plug
  4. That's it, now we just take out the old filter element, move it towards ourselves and replace it with a new one (Fig. 4). Fig.4 Replacing the old filter
  5. After replacing, all that remains is to install the cover in its place until it clicks, and also put the glove compartment in place.

This is interesting: Replacing the front and rear side members of a VAZ 2109 - detailed instructions

When installing, pay attention to the arrows shown on one side of the filter element. They indicate the correct installation position. Exactly how to install is written below.

When removing the filter, as a rule, a large amount of debris spills onto the mat. It is worth vacuuming the inside of the stove body itself - the size of the slot for the filter makes it quite easy to operate with the narrow nozzle of the vacuum cleaner.

Which side to install

In addition to replacing the cabin air filter element itself, it is important to install it on the correct side. There are simple notations for this:

  • Just an arrow (without an inscription) - indicates the direction of the air flow.
  • The arrow and the inscription UP indicate the top edge of the filter.
  • The arrow and the inscription AIR FLOW indicate the direction of the air flow.
  • If the flow is top-down, then the extreme edges of the filter should be like this - ////
  • If the flow is bottom-up, then the extreme edges of the filter should be like this: ////

In the Hyundai Solaris 2 (HCR), the air flow passes from top to bottom. Based on this, as well as the inscriptions on the side plane of the air filter, we carry out the correct installation.

Instructions for replacing the cabin filter on a Hyundai Solaris

In order to access the cabin filter on Solaris, no tool is required, and the operation itself will not take more than a couple of minutes.

First you need to empty the glove compartment - it will have to be folded down below the limiters, so that its contents will spill out. The limiters are located on the sides of the glove compartment; to remove them, just grab the head and turn it 90 degrees - after that the limiter can be pulled out towards you.

Now the glove compartment can be removed from the lower brackets, pulled out towards you and set aside.

The compartment is closed by a lid located immediately above the stove fan. To remove it, you need to press the latches along its edges.

If there was only a mesh on the car, take it out and clean it (by blowing it with air or rinsing it under the tap and drying it).

On cars younger than 2012, the cassette along with the filter is pulled out of the compartment. It is held in the cassette by small teeth along the edges - just bend one edge to pull out the old filter and place the new one.

The procedure for reassembling is also simple: if the filter is placed on top of the standard mesh, then it is enough to lay it on top and push them together into the compartment, but if the filter is in a frame, then it is enough to get it into the guides.

However, at least once a year (usually in the spring) it is worth treating the air conditioner with an antiseptic. In this case, before installing a new filter, you need to temporarily replace the filter cover and inject an aerosol antiseptic through the drainage tube - it can be easily found in the passenger's feet.

After allowing the foam to saturate the air conditioner evaporator, we return the drainage tube to its place so that the composition along with the dirt flows out. After this, you can put the cabin filter in place.

If the aerosol product kit does not have a tube of sufficient length, you can introduce the composition through the compartment. In this case, you need to turn on the fan at low speeds and start spraying into it, but this should only be done as a last resort - ventilation will spread the composition in the form of microdroplets throughout the cabin.

How often should you change the cabin filter?

According to the official dealer, the service life of the filter is not limited, but depends on operating conditions.
On average, the filter should be replaced every 15-20 thousand km. In conditions of unpaved roads, rural areas or simply increased road dust, the service life of the filter is reduced. It is recommended to check the condition of the filter after a mileage of 10 thousand km. How do you know if the filter is clogged and it’s time to replace it? For several reasons:

  • First of all, you will notice that there is more dust in the car interior;
  • During the cold season, car windows begin to fog up due to increased humidity;
  • Faulty climate control system: poor air flow from the heater and/or air conditioner;
  • An unpleasant smell of dust, rot, exhaust gases, and dampness appeared in the car interior.

All these signs indicate that the cabin filter is not doing its job and most likely needs to be replaced.

What to choose?

On top is the original cabin filter. Below are the most common replacements. The third from the top is the most expensive option.

To make it easier for you to navigate a wide selection of products, we offer you article numbers of original and analogue spare parts.

Original filter – HYUNDAI – 971334L000 , filter mesh – 976174L000 .

Analogues – KIA – 971334L000 , KOREA (OEM) – 971334L000 , KAP – 971334L000 , TOKO CARS – BK4-524CTOKO , MOBIS – 971334L000 , AMC – KC6113 , PMC – PMA043 , NIPPARTS – N134052 2, FORTECH - FS130 .

Despite the fact that there are quite a lot of analogues, it is best to install the original, since the price is not that high, and the quality speaks for itself.

Carbon and regular filter. What is the difference

All expensive German cars come from the factory with three-layer cabin filters. One of the layers is carbon-adsorbing. That is, not just inclusions in the filter paper, but a whole separate layer. It’s clear that such a filter has some use – it’s not just stupid marketing.

In markets and stores, a carbon filter is mainly called a regular filter with inclusions. The only thing these filters have in common is their name. The real ones are more expensive. Almost no one keeps them in stock. Why, if few people understand the difference between them.

Coal inclusions are pure marketing

If you use carbon filters from a certain company, it’s easy to find out whether it’s real or not. It is enough to cut the old filter and see if there is a carbon layer in it.

This filter contains a carbon layer

A tangible advantage of this filter is the absence of odors from the street. Even when you stand behind some old smoking car, you don’t feel the smell in the cabin.

From what the manufacturers of carbon filters say, it follows that they are more needed to protect health from harmful exhaust gases, and the absence of odor is just an additional bonus and not the main function. I have nothing to say here, I don’t know, I’m not an expert in this.

On the recommendation of our client, I started using a carbon filter from RAF. Before that I used TSN and FORTECH. The latter filter worse, but are also cheaper.
