Chevrolet Niva paint number |
When operating a Chevrolet Niva car, any owner, sooner or later, is bound to encounter the problem of needing some paint somewhere. Either there are chips on the hood, or some kind of scratch. The quality of painting of Chevrolet Niva cars is very good in my opinion, with year-round use in salty Moscow, the factory coating does not cause any complaints after five years of operation. But nevertheless, I also encountered the problem of touch-up.
Of course I searched and found the number for that paint. what color is my car, but I decided that what I dug up would be useful to many “Shnivovoda”, do not be lazy to add your comments on the issues of Chevrolet Niva colors, Chevrolet Niva paint numbers, maybe I can add and correct something.
What is the difficulty? It would seem that it could be simpler in our world of abundance. But it was not there! At a minimum, in order to buy the coveted can of paint, you will need to know the paint color number, as well as the manufacturer and type of paint, acrylic, alkyd, two-component, etc.
And here lies the first secret.
But the fact is that different manufacturers of automotive enamels have their own numbering, moreover, manufacturers often produce certain paints for any project! Just as the manufacturer of the Chevrolet Niva, the GM concern, did. A very important point is who produces paints for a particular car manufacturer, because... Each car paint manufacturer has its own numbering. In particular, for the production of the Chevrolet Niva, the GM concern uses paints from the world-famous concern MOTIP DUPLI GROUP (Holland-Germany). The Motip concern, which produces paints for painting the Chevrolet Niva, thanks to its flexible marketing and active innovation policy, is a recognized world leader in the production and sale of the widest range of aerosol paints and varnishes for automotive, household and decorative purposes, as well as high-quality auto cosmetics and technical aerosols .
The Motip Dupli Group concern was formed in 1998 as a result of a merger (Holland), Vogelsang Holding (Germany-Switzerland) and the company producing putties and primers Weber&Wirth.
Of course, I managed to find out all this in the process of searching for the required paint for my beloved Chevy Nivika, which I am sharing here.
So, let's start with the colors of the Chevrolet Niva car produced by GM, and at different times, Chevrolet Niva cars were produced in completely different colors and, moreover, the colors of previous years were not released later, but in the table I did not consider it necessary to divide the colors into old and new, because The article is not so much historical as technical and is designed to help people look for their paint number for their favorite Chevrolet Niva car:

How to determine damage using a thickness gauge?
It will not be difficult to conduct research on any brand of car using such a tool. You will need the original paint thickness on the car, which can be found in the table. Write down or remember this value. Then use the device to determine the paintwork indicators on all parts of the car. This procedure is carried out in a few minutes and does not require any special skills. But it is important to do everything accurately and without doubt.
The only caveat worth remembering here is the quality of the device. Sometimes the data from the table will not agree completely because the thickness gauge can be a little deceiving. If the deviation is within 10-15%, you can ignore such moments. But exceeding the permissible values by several times is a guarantee of poor-quality body repairs to the car. Most often, paintwork in such places can be visually distinguished from factory coatings.

Painting. — Chevrolet Niva, 1.7 l., 2008 on DRIVE2
Well, I had a free day and decided to paint something. To begin with, I opened the putty on the rear left fender; the crack bothered me. It turned out that no one knows what a spoter is, they just threw on a heap of putty and that’s it... I took off all the old putty, straightened the wing as best as possible and put it on “new”.
Full size
While the putty was sinking, I decided to paint the thresholds. I sanded everything that was needed, filled it with acid, then sealed the seams with sealant. There were thoughts on how to fill the seams of parts working in conditions of constant dampness, sandblasting and chemical reagents from the road. Actually there are only 2 options, either tinning or polyurethane. I chose a less labor-intensive method. There was no question of covering everything with hygroscopic putty! One unnoticeable chip, a scratch on the coating and that’s it, the chemicals from the road began to be absorbed! Well, the plus to this method is that the polyurethane is located exactly in the place where the rubber on the door rubs in. Shniv owners can observe constant paint rubbing in this area.

Well, after that a layer of epoxy primer, anti-gravel, then primer for plastic, base and varnish. It turned out like this)

Just right for the field. I hope these thresholds will last longer than the factory ones. The putty is almost ready, you can create a semblance of a wing. The right wing, as you remember, is also in spiders and the same rusty sandblasted arch, so I decided to paint both rear wings entirely + the 5th door opening.

I removed everything, primed it, and also where necessary with acid and epoxy. On top of this there is anti-gravel on the arches and on the rear panel.

I sanded the smooth transition of the anti-gravel to the ground. I didn’t make straight lines... I don’t like it lately. I painted everything)

It's a little overdone, everything is too shiny, it would be a shame to rub against the branches)) I barely figured out the color. For some reason I thought it was TRIUMPH, but it turned out to be RASPBERRY, i.e. This is the paint that is used on TAGAZ Huynday) How it ended up on Sheviniv is unclear. And it didn’t really fit... I gave it to me for coloring, and taking into account the burnout, they turned out great! In tone.

And into the grain.

I immediately decided to make the bottom inside. A thin layer of factory primer is only suitable for painting shovels to give them a marketable appearance. Everything was rotten, moisture got under the vibration sheets... the bottom began to rust. At this rate it would have rotted in a couple of years...
Full size
The vibroplast was partially torn off. Cleaned, primed with acid and red primer, ready for painting. The car will probably float more than once, there will be wet carpets, it needs to be kept from rusting. Apparently there is no factory coating.

Calibration
Before starting measurements, the thickness gauge must be calibrated. For this purpose, special calibration plates are used, which are included in the kit. But the calibration gets lost due to temperature changes, dampness or a dead “battery”. Therefore, always check the calibration of the device before taking measurements. If you rent a thickness gauge, ask that it be calibrated in front of you, and also be given calibration plates for subsequent self-adjustment. Just in case, check how to do this.
And also interesting: Tuning Niva 2121 with your own hands: body, interior, suspension "
Do not use a thickness gauge on a dirty car.
Do not use the thickness gauge on a dirty machine. Firstly, the device readings may be incorrect. Secondly, using a thickness gauge on a dirty body can damage both the device itself and the paintwork.
1. Don't use no-name or cheap thickness gauges.
2. Check in advance the acceptable paint thickness for a specific model. For attached parts this is usually 100–200 microns, for the body frame - 40–60 microns.
3. Select a device based on the inspection conditions: winter - you need a frost-resistant thickness gauge, the machine has aluminum parts - a device that works with non-ferrous metals.
4. Operate a calibrated instrument on a clean machine.
5. Measure the element at at least five different points perpendicular to the body.
6. Measure not only the hinged panels, but also the internal parts of the body.
What to consider when choosing auto paint
If we are talking about a used car, it is very important to determine whether it has been completely repainted in order to eliminate the risk of purchasing a “criminal” vehicle. In addition, you need to remember several important rules for choosing paintwork:
- If the former owner changed the color completely, then most likely non-factory paint was used. Therefore, the information obtained by VIN code will be irrelevant, and the color of the existing coating in different places of the body should be compared.
- You can use a paint thickness gauge. Not a single technician at a service station will paint a car as efficiently as they do at the factory. Therefore, the amount of paintwork applied will most likely differ in different places on the body (if the car has been repainted).
- Paint changes its properties over time due to natural conditions. In this case, the shade of the coating in different places of the body will also differ from the original tone according to the VIN code.
- To minimize the risk of choosing the wrong shade, you can turn to spectral paint selection, which allows you to select the right pigments for the paint composition.
- It should be borne in mind that many car manufacturing plants use paintwork that is not commercially available. In such a situation, it will be difficult to find the right color, even if you accurately determine the shade. You will need the services of a professional computer selection of the closest possible shade.
- If the car is more than 10 years old, then the paintwork has most likely already been discontinued. In such a situation, it is also necessary to use complex techniques for selecting and mixing paint colors.
Let's sum it up
If you would like to see the table, please use the data in this post. You can determine the painted areas without viewing the original information on the car. The thickness of the car's paintwork will be uneven; it is often possible to visually determine the places where painting was done. But sometimes this task will be quite difficult.
In the automotive market, every second car went through a painting procedure after purchase. And determining this fact will allow you to knock several hundred dollars off the cost of a used car. So preparing for a body survey can really pay off. If you do not find any signs of repair, then you can safely buy such a car and enjoy its operation.
