The topic of poor rear door opening is a very painful one for Grant/Kalina owners. It did not bypass almost any owner of the above-mentioned cars.
And so we will try for the hundredth time to understand the causes of this disease. You can find a lot of information on the Internet about how to make the rear doors work. We will try to list the main operations that are recommended to be performed for better opening of doors: 1) Adjusting the lock, or rather the response “ear”. This needs to be done first, but it will not give a strong result, although it is very important. 2) Bending the door in one way or another. Many people achieve very good results, but some consider this method too barbaric or are simply afraid to do it, and there are no known masters. 3) Grinding the tooth in the lock. There is an effect, but not great. And if you overdo it, the locks will unlock spontaneously.
However, I almost never came across any information about why this actually happens. The front doors have exactly the same locks and they open perfectly, so why is it not so with the rear ones? It’s enough just to understand the design of the front and rear door opening mechanisms and understand what their differences are. It turns out that these differences exist and the whole “root of evil” is found in them. I came across this video. In it, the author describes well the design of the rear locks and makes a VERY important remark that easily explains what the difference is and why the rear doors are so difficult to open.
And so the whole essence of the problem is that in the rear doors, behind the place of traction, they simply made a bracket on which the handle lever rubs. And at this moment the main effort arises, because The silumin hook of the handle moves very tightly on the metal platform of the lock bracket. At first I didn’t even believe it, but when I removed the handle and pressed the lock lever with my finger on the closed door, I was very surprised at how easily the door opened. As I found out later, AVTOVAZ also knew very well about this and supposedly even corrected this ailment with new grants, this is written about in detail here. And so we see: a rod has finally been installed on the rear doors
I haven’t yet figured out how best to remake the mechanism, so I just sanded the surfaces of the bracket and handle hook, and then lubricated everything well. By the way, the handle itself had a very tight movement, i.e. when it is already removed from the door it is still not easy to open. Accordingly, I cleaned it and lubricated it in the same way, and it became much better. The effect of what was done turned out to be higher than expected, so my doors have not opened even once in 3 years of operation. But it turned out to be so simple.
All ways to solve the problem when the rear doors on a Lada Grant do not open well
Serial production of LADA Granta started in 2011.
The model replaced the classic configuration of the Lada Samara and Lada Kalina for the sedan body. In 2013, the line was supplemented with a liftback body option. This trim level shares the same wheelbase with the sedan and is equipped with similar engines. Despite the good assembly and good driving characteristics, the owners are faced with the same defect - the rear doors of the Lada Granta do not open well, we will tell you what to do in this case below.
Replacing the Grant door end switch
To carry out this procedure, in addition to the door sensor itself, you will only need a 10-mm open-end wrench. The sequence of actions will be as follows:
- First you need to disconnect the wire of the negative terminal of the battery;
- Then you need to grab the end switch and carefully remove it from the seat, overcoming the resistance of the clamps holding it;
- Afterwards you will need to squeeze the limit switch block clamp and disconnect the wiring harness block from it;
- Your next step will be to remove the protective cap from the limit switch;
- Installing a new device involves performing actions similar to those described above, but done in the opposite order.
Using this method, you can easily remove and change the limit switches located on all car doors.

Adjusting the rear doors of Lada Granta
Many owners of the Lada Granta car pay attention to the fact that the rear doors of the car are more difficult to open than the front ones. This “disease” concerns new cars that rolled off the assembly line in 2019.
Cases are described when owners who contacted car service specialists received the answer: there was a factory defect and it was impossible to make a full repair. The only option is to disassemble the car and reconsider the geometry of the body.
In terms of price, such work costs 90% of the cost of a new vehicle, if you contact a workshop.
The rear doors do not open - the child lock is “activated”
Protection against opening the rear door from the passenger compartment is available on every car. It's called child protection.
On the Lada Granta, in my opinion, this function is implemented better than on previous cars of the VAZ family. Then the child could actually accidentally pull the lamb in the door, but now, to activate it, you need to use a flat object, but more on that below.
Activating the child protection function
- There is a special plastic lever in the door body that must be turned to the right (clockwise) - then the door will not be able to open from the passenger compartment.
- To return everything back, you need to open the door from the street (external handle) and return the lever to its original position.
You can activate it using the ignition key, but it is better to use a screwdriver for this
Well, a detailed video of the process
Once again we try it on ourselves, or rather on the editorial car Lada Granta. Learn more about this feature in the video below.
As mentioned above, the windshield washer hose is used as a seal. It can be found at any auto parts store. The washer hose can be of a certain length, cut and packaged, or can be sold by the meter (by the meter is the best option). The main thing is that the sections of hose inserted into the side window seals are solid and not made up of scraps.
On the Internet you can hear a lot of advice about the length of the hose. Some say the length is 4.5 meters, for others 5 meters is enough. But when I measured the length of the hose on my Grant, it came out to 1.5 meters for the front doors and 1.4 meters for the rear. In total, four doors required 5.8 meters. How did I take the measurements? I simply took the hose and applied it to the seal into which it would be inserted. Then I measured the resulting length with a tape measure and this is what happened. Below is a photo of the hose measurement for the front door:
Possible problems, solutions
One of the main problems why the back door on a Grant may not open well remains the design feature of the lock. The locking mechanism and heavy pull require that the doors fit into the doorway with millimeter precision. It is important to strictly maintain the gaps between the canvas and the car body. Failure to comply with this condition leads to misalignment, friction of the part against the body in certain places, and deformation of the already crooked geometry. The main problems that will need to be addressed:
In 70% of cases, after self-repair, the doors on Grant begin to open without much effort.
The main points about door locks are discussed in this video
As a result of performing such work, the doors should have the same gaps, not be exposed outside the body and not fall into it; if you have problems with the front doors, we adjust them in the same way.
Please note that when making adjustments yourself, the most important thing is not to overdo it and not to dent the doors or damage the paintwork. If you have any doubts about doing the work yourself, it is best to contact a dealer or a specialized auto repair shop.
Adjusting a door with a large gap at the top
Before adjusting the lock, the gaps must be adjusted correctly. This is done by applying physical force to the door leaf, through correcting the position of the response bracket, which is located at the end of the doorway opposite the locking mechanism.
It is very important to pay attention to the gap that exists between the upper edge of the door and the rubber seal located in the upper part of the body and called the drain.
The gap should match the thickness of the credit card.
If the door fits too tightly to the drain and there is no gap, then the work algorithm is as follows:
If the gap is too large, do the following:
It is not recommended to remove the part from the car and try to change its shape. In addition to the fact that you will need to remove the electric window drive and dismantle the devices located under the casing, the actions will remain useless. The gaps need to be straightened on the body.
Adjusting the gap between the bumper and the trunk lid
1. For this purpose, you can use plasticine in the area where two surfaces come into contact. We make a small ball and glue it to where the bumper and the cover meet.
2. Next, close the trunk lid according to the manual: we lower the lid freely from a height of no more than 20 cm.
3. The gap is adjusted by moving the trunk lid lock latch. Upon completion of the adjustment, the position of the buffer and trunk lid are adjusted.
Bottom adjustment
To adjust the gaps in the lower part, it is necessary, as in the previous case, to apply force.
It is very important not to overdo it when performing these steps so as not to bend the part.
This method of adjusting Grant doors is used during the final stage of car assembly. Any violation of the geometry results in the doors becoming difficult to close.
How to adjust the lock and replace the stopper
For the lock to work without problems, you need:
- insert a limiter into it to prevent sudden closure;
- lightly file and round off the sharp part of the tooth.
The openings are closed with a cloth, since metal from a file can get inside the lock. Rarely, but the cause of difficulties when opening and closing can be a breakdown of the limiter, which allows the door to open only a certain distance without contact with other parts of the car. To replace this part, you only need to prepare the keys in the set. The work proceeds in the following sequence:
- The upholstery is carefully removed from the part;
- the bolt with which the limiter is attached to the body pillar is turned out (when the bolt is removed, the door cannot be opened for a long distance, otherwise its outer panel will be damaged);
- remove the two bolts that secure the stopper to the door;
- the damaged part is removed from the open space in the door panel;
- The new limiter is installed in the reverse order.
The above methods for adjusting Lada Granta doors will be more effective with an integrated approach. The element may close or open poorly due to the seal, which in the cold season you just need to lubricate, and the problem will disappear.
Adjusting Lada Granta locks
If the previous adjustments did not help solve the problem, you can try to fix it by adjusting the lock striker.
Tools required for work:
Work order:
It may also happen that after adjusting the lock, the door closes easily, but is not in the same plane with the surface of the body - it can protrude above it or be recessed relative to the body. If a protrusion appears, do the following:
If the part is recessed, then it should be pulled out:
If the hood comes back
In the case when the hood opens backwards, the situation becomes quite complicated. The most obvious and easiest way to open such a hood is to get to the lock mechanism through the air intake openings. Naturally, they must first be protected from scratches and chips with electrical tape, or the working tool must be wrapped with it. If the air intake grilles are removable, the best solution is to remove them (if possible). This way you can have excellent access to the lock and open it quickly.
Refinement of the castle
The method is used by experienced drivers who prefer to repair any fault themselves. This is a makeshift option, but it helps to adjust the smooth running for a year and a half and get a tight fit.
If you grind off a large sheet of metal, then the door may not close.
thermal insulation paint for wall insulation
Craftsmen recommend systematically checking the seals and the external position of the hinges; in this case, door adjustment on Grant will be required less than once a year.

How to straighten car doors
The “old-fashioned” way is to fight sagging with your own hands. That is, we take our hands by the back of the door, where the lock is, not the hinges, and lift it up. The door should be slightly open so that you can comfortably grab it with your hands. First, apply a little effort and look at the result. If this is not enough, then we increase the effort according to the situation. If there is no effect at all, then try first slightly lifting the door (it will rise along with the body), and then sharply pull it up.
The same method can be applied using a jack. The door should also be slightly open. We place a jack under the edge of the door through a block so as not to bend the door. We lift the door in the same way, at first a little, if this is not enough, we increase the force.
As a rule, such methods solve the problem of sagging doors, but for a certain time. After bending the door like this, sooner or later it will still return to its initial sagging state. A more reliable method is to lay plates of a certain thickness:
And again adjusting the rear door locks

Here folk craftsmen offer different options, in general, who is good at what. For example, you can do this or even install an electric drive for opening locks, although this is of course too cool in my opinion, but I really liked the video of how this electric drive works. general information
On machines equipped with Norma, central locking control units are installed, which are replaced with new ones if they break down. On Luxe vehicles, TsBKE are used instead. Below we will try to take a more detailed look at the central locking unit and its control unit, their relationship with the remote control, symptoms of a malfunction of this part, and also provide instructions for replacing it yourself.
Now let's look in more detail at remote control, which is intended not only for locking and unlocking car doors at a distance with synchronous activation of the security mode. In addition, it allows you to lock all locks with one turn of the key, lock and unlock all door locks by pressing one button located inside the cabin, and also turn on and off the car alarm both remotely and with the key.
Operating modes
Door locks on Grants are blocked by pressing the corresponding key on the remote control, after which they can be unlocked using the remote control in stepwise and simultaneous unlocking modes. The first of the listed modes will allow you to unlock all door locks by double pressing the key (first the driver's door is unlocked, and then all other doors). When you activate the second mode, you can unlock all the doors of the car at the same time, with one click.
To change the mode, the car owner will need to perform the following steps:
- first you need to turn on the ignition with the remote control key;
- then you will need to press and hold the unlock and lock keys in this position for five seconds;
- After the buzzer sounds, release the keys.
Blocking
If, after unlocking the door locks, you do not open the trunk or one of the doors, or do not turn on the ignition, then after twenty-five seconds all doors will be locked again.
Control from the cabin
When blocking doors directly from inside the car, you need to press the corresponding button located on the driver's door, or press a similar button in the module of the same door. Unlocking will require lifting the desired key on the door or pressing it in the module. To lock the doors from the outside, you will need to turn the key in the lock located on the driver's door clockwise, and to unlock the doors, turn the key in the opposite direction.
Sequence of actions when replacing the rear right (left) door handle
We carry out the work modularly, since initially it is necessary to dismantle the casing, the internal filling, and unscrew the handle latches.
Stage No. 1: dismantling the card.
Stage No. 2: disconnect the door lock rod and remove it from the door cavity.
This completes the process of dismantling the unlocking element. Next, we carry out preventive maintenance, install new parts, and assemble the structure in the reverse order.

Soundproofing front doors on Lada Granta
The pasting process is not complicated.
- 2 sheets of Visalis AL, dimensions 460x700 mm or more in reserve;
- 1 sheet of Bitoplast, size 1000x700 mm;
- half a meter of corrugation for wiring the front door;
- degreaser;
- hair dryer or any other heating device;
- gloves;
- tools, screwdrivers;
- rags.
Algorithm of actions
- After installing the structure (the process is described above), degrease the surface, clean it of dirt and corrosion.
- At the same time, we evaluate the condition of the vibration-isolating gasket and cover it with a new one.
- Cut Visalis into the required sizes.
- We lubricate all driving mechanisms and hinges.
- We isolate all possible sound sources.
- We cover the surface of the upholstery with vibration-absorbing material.
- We heat the Bitoplast and press it against the metal surface of the door.
If the algorithm is followed, the doors will close silently, as if in a foreign car.
The process of dismantling the structure is described above; we follow its points. After installation by screwing it onto the hinges, we proceed to assembly and filling the inside. Instead of worn rubber seals, we install new ones. This completes the self-replacement process.

Adjusting the rear door lock
The doors are difficult to open, the lock is jammed, an extraneous squeak appears when unlocking - the first signs of the need to adjust the door lock. The problem is common among domestic transport.
The left side wears out prematurely due to frequent use.
Inexperienced owners practice eliminating damage by lubricating the mechanism. However, the effectiveness of such a solution is low. Service station technicians recommend the following adjustment:
This completes the adjustment of the rear door locks.
The above algorithm is effective provided the lock is in good condition. What to do if there is a curvature or deformation on the door frame? In this case, the experts advise making improvements:
Along with adjusting the lock, you have to adjust the door. The reason is the increase in the radius of curvature of the frame. The defect is common and can be corrected by straightening the curvature.
No special tool is needed, the strength of the hands of the master (repairman) is enough.
Since 2015, AvtoVAZ has launched mass production of rear door locks of a new type on the Lada Grant. This is a modernized version of the previous locking mechanism.
The main difference is not only in cost, but also in the change in design and the use of durable polymer. This made it possible to significantly reduce the knocking sound when hitting a metal loop.
Way out
What to do if the car door does not open from the inside or outside? In fact, there are not so many solutions.
- Call a qualified service technician to open the door or lock. Considering current prices, just one call will cost the owner half the average salary. So it's not fun for everyone. This service can only be used in extreme situations;
- Remove the door hinges and unscrew the lock fastening: this option is more suitable when the front doors are jammed. The bottom line is this: if the door cannot be opened either from the outside or from the inside, then you need to use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the two hinges of the rear door that follows the “problem” door. In this way we will provide access to the rear wall of the lock mount. Here it’s a matter of chance, you can unscrew two bolts the first time, or spend 10-15 minutes doing this. After unscrewing the bolts, disconnect the rear wall of the door lock from the body. All that remains is to make an effort to pull back the door, and everything is ready;
- Next, it is necessary to remove the mechanism itself and do diagnostics, look for the cause, but this is “a completely different story”;

№ | Positive |
1. | Vasily: after two years of active use of the car, there are no complaints about the body or its elements. The doors close easily and the locks are also in good working order. I try to treat equipment with care and carry out diagnostics in a timely manner. |
2. | Kirill: at 65,000 km I adjusted the hinge once on the right side. Obviously there was a bad fixation from the factory. There are no more complaints, I am satisfied with the build quality of the domestic car. |
3. | Ivan: for the first time, a Russian car turned out great. Of course, there are complaints about the technology, but they are insignificant. Those who are familiar with a screwdriver can easily eliminate defects on their own. |
4. | Gennady: I haven’t noticed anything like this in a year and a half of driving. All mechanisms are operating normally, lubricated and secured. |
5. | Dmitry: after buying the car, I immediately re-tightened all the moving elements myself, lubricated them additionally, and adjusted the gaps. I haven't had any worries for more than a year. |
6. | Alexander: I bought the car two years ago from a dealership, drove more than 80,000 km, no comments. There were minor breakdowns, but I fixed them myself. There were no major breakdowns. |
7. | Ignat: in a year and a half of active operation of the machine, I adjusted the hinges twice and lubricated them additionally. In general, there were no serious breakdowns. |
Negative | |
1. | Kirill: I’ve only driven 75,000 km, but I’ve already adjusted the hinges, changed the seals, and ordered soundproofing for the interior. |
2. | Gennady: the dashboard is systematically fastened on the paving stones, I can’t do anything. I contacted specialists and repaired it myself, but it didn’t help. |
3. | Vladlen: there are more shortcomings in Grant than advantages; the manufacturer is in no hurry to eliminate defects. |
Conclusion The door lock is replaced only if it is damaged, deformed, or defective. The design of the mechanism is not complicated, and the operating principle is intuitive.
We replace the body element ourselves. At the preparatory stage, we check the availability of tools, lubricants, and rags.
The average service life of the locking mechanism is 120–150 thousand km.
Join our club, share your first impressions of the car, start your blog on our website. In the near future we will hold a competition for the best review of the Lada Granta.
Ever since the production of “nines” began, buyers have noticed a strange feature of Russian cars - the rear door locks are difficult to open, and you have to help with your thumb, which rests on the handle. Only after this you need to pull the door.
Although the Lada Granta received many innovations and technological developments, AvtoVAZ engineers were unable to get rid of the problem with the doors.
As people say, “we’ll finish it with a file”! Here the situation absolutely fits this expression. To work, we take a file and carefully remove a little from the fang in the rear door lock. First they did it from below, then they started on the upper canine.
spill sour cream on the floor
Same job on the other rear door.
Do not forget that friction with a file causes metal to fly, which can penetrate the door lock, so the openings should be covered with a cloth.
After a little “tuning”, so to speak, the doors became light, and the thumb no longer helps when opening, everything works out just the same!
Many Lada Granta owners notice that the rear doors of their cars close or open with excessive force. In an attempt to overcome this problem, everyone does what they can, and sometimes makes it even worse. Today we will talk to you about how to make door opening soft and smooth by correctly adjusting the door to your doorway.
Adjustment process
To perform adjustment work, you can contact specialists so that they do everything professionally and efficiently. At the same time, they will need door closers and door stops; these can be purchased at a specialized store. In order for the locks to work well and the doors to open and close without problems, they must be disassembled. If suddenly the gap turns out to be larger or smaller, the entire door profile should be changed.
If the gap is smaller, lower the glass all the way down. Then close it with one click, take it by the top edge and push it towards you a couple of times with a little effort. And if the gap on the front door turns out to be wider, then you need to open it with the window down and, resting your foot on the trim, pull the door to the inside several times. Then it will be possible to move on to the main problem associated with the poor functioning of the lock.
Malfunctions in the operation of the rear doors can occur due to a tight fit to the opening seal and improper installation of the lock hinge. At the same time, the doors are difficult to open. To fix the problem you will need:
- special screwdriver;
- Silicone Grease;
- limiters.
You should loosen the hinge on the body and move it in the desired direction, then tighten it a little and try to work the door. If there are no improvements, then you need to buy Lada door closers or door stops and install them. You can always try to do everything yourself, just following some rules. If the door lock hinges move slightly, there may be a violation of the gap between the body and the door of the Lada Granta.
When there is a slight bulging outward, you need to put a soft and durable gasket in the opening and on the central post, in the place where the hinges are, and then try to close the door. If the door is slightly recessed relative to the body itself, then you need to support the outside with your knee in the hinge area and pull the open door towards you. By making such adjustments to the rear doors, you can achieve soft operation without various side effects.
Many Lada Granta car owners have encountered similar problems. Moreover, the problem constantly arises with the rear of the car. Sometimes even simply adjusting the door locks can help. This solution can be approached in a comprehensive manner: buy door closers, Lada door stops and install them on the car locks according to the instructions. Such designs work very softly.
You can install them either on the opening or on the door itself. Due to the presence of springs, closing/opening will be smooth and the sound will not be too loud. Basically, those who are faced with a similar problem most often try to solve it with the help of lubricant. In a way it helps, but only for a short time. And it can only get worse in the future.
Then you will need to buy new locks for the car. To completely get rid of the problem, you need to do the following. Using a medium-sized impact screwdriver, loosen the 3 bolts on the door locks, lubricate them with a special product, and tighten them until the bushing begins to rotate. Then you should insert a limiter into the lock so that it cannot close. By filing, you need to slightly round off the sharp ends of the lock teeth.

How to adjust doors on Lada Granta
Difficulties with the operation of the door lock are caused by its design, which is very demanding on the correct adjustment of the door to the doorway. To adjust the door we will need to do several sequential steps.
The first thing you will need to pay attention to is the gap between the top edge of the door and the gutter. The optimal gap should be such that a credit card can fit through. In this case, there will be a balance between aerodynamic noise and the tightness of the door to the drain. If your gap is smaller or larger, you will need to change the door profile. If your gap is smaller, then lower the glass all the way down, close the door one click and, grasping the upper edge of the door, pull it towards you several times, using some force. If, on the contrary, the gap is larger, then we open the door, and, with the window down, resting our knee on the door trim, we pull the top of the door towards ourselves, towards the passenger compartment, several times.
Next, we move on to solving the main problem of the lock’s tight operation. Most often, the door does not open or close well due to the door opening being too tightly attached to the seal and the lock's return hinge being installed incorrectly. To work we need an impact screwdriver. We loosen the hinge on the body and move it in the desired direction, tighten it slightly and try to work the door. If there are improvements, we act in this direction.
As a result of movement of the door lock hinge, the gap between the door and the body may be slightly compromised. If the door protrudes slightly outward, you need to lay a soft but durable gasket in the door opening and the central pillar in the area of the door hinges and simulate the closing of the doors, thereby giving the door the desired profile. If the door, on the contrary, has deepened relative to the body (which happens extremely rarely), placing your knee on the outside of the door, in the area of the hinges, we pull the open door towards us, towards the street.
By following this simple adjustment method, you are guaranteed to achieve smooth operation of your doors, without side effects.
How to adjust doors on LADA cars
Some owners, after purchasing a LADA car, notice malfunctions in the operation of the doors. For example, the back door doesn't open well. You can cope with the problem yourself by adjusting the locks and door geometry. The defect can also be corrected under warranty from an authorized dealer. Malfunctions that owners of LADA cars (and other car brands) encounter when the door locks are not adjusted:
- the door does not open or close;
- the door closes/opens poorly (tight);
- large gaps between the door and the body (water gets into the cabin, rattling and whistling appear at speed).
Door adjustment on all LADA cars (XRAY, Vesta, Largus, Granta, Priora, Kalina Niva 4x4) is performed in the same way. There are no fundamental differences.
