In the last quarter of 2011, a new development of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant was released, a C-class car - Granta Lada.

AvtoVAZ decided to celebrate its entry into the new decade with the appearance of a new car in its lineup, which would be radically different from all previous examples of VAZ’s creativity and, at the same time, ousted the models from the Samara family and the Kalina sedan from the line that had become classics.
The impetus for this was the infusion of the international alliance Renault-Nissan into the management structures of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant, which, before all other world manufacturers, realized that it was necessary to stake out a place in the developing and powerful Russian market as soon as possible.

Having assessed the consumer demand and production capabilities of the Russian auto giant, representatives of the Alliance proposed to VAZ to build an inexpensive but quite spacious car that would differ from existing models not only in design, but also in new safety standards, which are taken very seriously throughout the civilized world.

After several years of development, in the spring of 2011, a pre-production sample of AvtoVAZ’s new creation, the four-door Lada Granta sedan, was presented to the public. And in December of the same year, its serial production began.

AvtoVAZ management plans to produce a five-door hatchback, which, according to forecasts, will begin rolling off the assembly line in 2013. There are no plans to produce Granta in other bodies, in particular station wagon.

Exterior

The Lada Kalina served as the platform for the new car. The platform was significantly modified with the assistance of French and Japanese specialists - the rigidity of the body was increased (which did not lead to its weight), aerodynamics were improved, and longer overhangs appeared (this balanced the body structure).

Compared to the same Kalina, the Granta has an 8 mm longer wheelbase (2478 versus 2470 mm for its predecessor). In comparison with the Kalina, the body lengthened by as much as 220 mm, which made the car interior more spacious and the luggage compartment more spacious by as much as 80 liters. The height and width remained the same, “Kalinovsky” - 1700 and 1500 mm, respectively.

As for the exterior design, the VAZ team decided not to philosophize, and presented, so to speak, a restyling of the same Kalina, which had modified front and rear bumpers, the shape of the headlights (they became larger in size and had daytime running lights).

Also, the Granta, compared to its predecessor, has a more prominent hood, a wider radiator grille, and its lining is made in the new corporate style of VAZ - with a wide horizontal chrome strip, which is crowned with a nameplate.

Keeping in mind the convenience of the driver, the side mirrors for the Granta were made wider than those of the Kalina, which immediately improved visibility. The rear of the new product is more impressive than its predecessor; there are new optics and a large tailgate, freed from the number frame (it is attached to the rear bumper in Granta).

Interior

There are no special frills in the interior of the Granta: plastic and upholstery materials, which, by the way, are made in Slovenia, are frankly budget-friendly. The front seats have little lateral support. The rear ones are mounted on a kind of “step” formed by the ledge of the trunk, and are slightly raised upward.

The design of the dashboard and center console resembles those of the Renault Logan - the same placement of air ducts, tachometer and speedometer, a steering wheel with an airbag (it is available even in the basic configuration) of an almost “Logan” shape.

But compared to the same Logan, the Granta has more niches and cup holders in the cabin (the only thing worth mentioning is the compartment for documents above the glove compartment lid).

In the basic configuration, the car is as empty as a shaman’s tambourine, but in the middle and, especially, luxury configuration, it is equipped with a radio, on-board computer, air conditioning with a dust filter, and a front passenger airbag. Also in the future, they plan to equip Granta with a GLONASS navigation system.

Specifications

The Lada Granta is equipped with new 1.6-liter engines with a Euro 4 toxicity standard. They differ in the number of valves (eight-valve engines are installed on the “Standard” and “Norma” packages, and sixteen-valve engines are installed on the “Lux” package) and power.

The basic version of the Lada Granta is equipped with an engine developing 82 hp. (at the same time, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 12.5 seconds), “Norma” - with an 87 hp engine. (acceleration – 12 seconds), but the power unit of the “Lux” produces 98 hp. (acceleration – 11.8 sec). As for fuel consumption, in the mixed version it is 7.2-7.2 l/100 km. Paired with these engines is a 5-speed manual transmission.

Already in the second half of 2012, VAZ equipped the Lada Granta with an automatic four-speed transmission from Jatco. This Grant costs 373,200 rubles.

showed that the budget sedan is reliable and safe.
In addition, it is adapted for Russia and Russian roads. And if you pay attention to the capacity of the car, then the new AvtoVAZ product becomes unrivaled. Lada Granta
has other advantages.
For example, a long body base, minimal overhangs and decent ground clearance. The body frame, doors and some mechanical components of the LADA Granta
were borrowed from its predecessor Lada Kalina.

was fine-tuned by the Swedish laboratory Outliv.
Thanks to this, the car has a softer bumper, as well as a hood profile designed specifically for pedestrian safety. The company has also made efforts to ensure greater safety for the driver of the Lada Granta and its passengers. The VAZ 2110
was modernized to the Lada Priora using the same principle. AvtoVAZ plans to produce at least 400 thousand cars annually. This year, however, the quantitative target will not be met.

Description of the car

Samples of the Lada Granta were presented in mid-May 2011. The new car was built on the Lada Kalina platform - it was discontinued not long ago. The Granta modification in serial production started in October 2011. The price of this model started at 269,500 rubles. Such a low cost of the machine is explained by the fact that the design engineers have made very serious developments to reduce the cost of the machine, while the model has not lost its excellent qualities. The design of the car turned out to be very stylish and comfortable. There are 3 types of machine configuration:

standard;
norm;
lux.

The maximum luxury package includes power steering, ABS, 14-inch alloy wheels, alarm system, electric mirrors and windows, climate control and a sound system. For this modification, four power units are included, two of them are 8-valve (82, 87 hp), two are 16-valve (98, 106 hp). All motors have a lightweight group (connecting rod and piston), thanks to which power is increased and noise and vibration are reduced.

According to reviews from car owners, these 2 engines perform quite confidently in our climate, with our winter: they start easily (but there are exceptions - the engines can act up in the summer). Both units are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, but the standard version of the engine is combined with a Japanese 4-speed Jatco automatic transmission. The Lada Granta is the first in this modification to have an automatic transmission as standard.

The brake system in this car is simple. Disc brakes are used at the front and a drum system at the rear. All models have a 5-speed manual transmission, and the version with 98 hp. With.
