- expansion tank designed to compensate for the increase in the volume of antifreeze when heated and to top it up or replace it.
One of the elements of the system is the cooling jacket of the power unit. The operating temperature of antifreeze in the cooling system of a French hatchback is in the range from 90.00°C to 100.00°C, it is maintained automatically using a thermostat. Overheating or, conversely, insufficient heating of the engine indicates that the thermostat needs to be replaced.
The radiator with a horizontal circulation direction of the antifreeze flow has a tubular-tape inner core made of aluminum, two plastic tanks, a tank on the left with outlet and inlet pipes leading directly to the engine cooling jacket. The water pump is installed on the cylinder block; if it breaks (the seal is broken, the bearings fail), the pump is replaced. This unit is not repairable, so it must be replaced as an assembly.
The expansion tank is made of translucent plastic, with “MIN” and “MAX” marks, which allows you to clearly control the existing level of antifreeze in the system, and is equipped with inlet and outlet valves.
Jamming of the exhaust valve in the closed position can lead to a critical increase in pressure directly in the cooling system, its depressurization, failure of the radiator and overheating of the engine, so diagnostics are necessary and vital.

Choosing coolant
