Nowadays, the alarm system is an essential component of almost every car. With rare exceptions, different security systems are installed on cars.
Someone installs ordinary cheap beepers, which, when attempting to break into or steal, only emit a piercing sound. Others install more complex systems with a whole range of security elements, including hood locks to prevent entry into the engine compartment.
There is another significant category - satellite car alarms. With their help, you can quickly respond to an attempted theft or break-in. And if it happens that the car is stolen, then you can instantly determine its current location by coordinates.
Satellite alarms cope well with their basic functions and tasks. A pleasant bonus could be a reduction in the cost of the insurance policy. Insurance companies actually significantly reduce the cost of CASCO if the car has an advanced and modern satellite alarm system.
It is necessary to understand in more detail all the nuances of the operation and devices of such security systems. Separately, the current rating of 2022 will be considered, which contains the optimal satellite car alarms that are in stable demand and have earned high ratings from consumers, as well as specialized specialists.
Design and operating features
Satellite alarms installed on cars may differ from each other. But if you look at the basic configuration, it turns out to be approximately the same in all cases. They also use an identical design and operating principle.
This makes it possible to give characteristics for all satellite-type car alarms without being tied to a specific model or manufacturer. That is, all systems that are offered on the market will have similar parameters.
First of all, let's look at the design features of the package.
- It is based on a small box that looks like an ordinary mobile phone. There is a battery inside the box. One charge is enough to operate for 5-10 days without recharging. This is an important and sometimes irreplaceable characteristic feature if the car is stolen and needs to be found.
- Under normal operating conditions, when the car is at the disposal of the car owner, the alarm is powered by the battery of the car itself.
- Inside the box, in addition to the battery, there is a set of sensors and a GPS beacon. The sensors are designed to monitor the tilt of the car, the movement of the vehicle, tire pressure, etc. With their help, the system quickly determines that an outsider has entered the car or attempts are being made to influence the car externally. The car owner quickly receives information about this. That is, a satellite car alarm is designed to notify the owner if the car is stolen, towed, doors are broken into, someone breaks through a window, the trunk is broken, etc.
- Many modern alarm models are actively equipped with immobilizers and engine blocking systems. They are aimed at blocking the gearbox and engine if a stranger is behind the wheel.
- Some devices are additionally equipped with other functionality. These can be sound alert activators, that is, a standard squeaker, door locks, etc.
- When the panic button, which is an integral part of any satellite car alarm, is triggered, the operator receives notification of the situation, calling the appropriate services to the scene.
How, where and how the alarm is installed and connected depends on the machine and the specific system. The main thing is that the installation is as safe as possible and inaccessible to intruders.
From a design standpoint, there is nothing complicated here, and figuring out this issue on your own won’t be too difficult.
Now it's worth looking at the issue of functioning. The operation of a satellite car alarm can be described approximately as follows:
- Sensors monitor what is happening within the territory or indicators entrusted to them. Some are responsible for the pressure in the wheels, others for changes in the interior, etc. The point is that the sensors record the changes and operate at the right moment.
- The signal from the sensors is transmitted to an electronic unit that processes the information. The control unit is located inside the car itself. It is important that the place where it is installed is inaccessible to car thieves.
- The alarm signal from the control unit is transmitted directly to the dispatch console. One of the blocks provides communication with the satellite, which makes it possible to track the current location of the vehicle.
- Another block sends a notification to the car owner himself. Usually in the form of a text alert.
- When the alarm goes off, the dispatcher first calls the car owner. It is possible that the response was false.
- If there is no connection, the client does not respond, or the fact of an attempted theft is confirmed, then the dispatcher calls the police.
There is another important point regarding calling the car owner. When installing a satellite security system on a car, the client signs a special agreement for the services provided. In it, he must indicate the additional numbers of his relatives, friends or relatives. When the owner of the car on which the alarm went off does not respond, in addition to the police, the dispatcher is also obliged to call the numbers specified in the contract. This is relevant if the car owner was injured or the theft occurred with him. Thus, loved ones also quickly receive important information.
I would like to hope that the number of such situations will go to zero, and there will be no need to look for anyone. But the situation in the country is such that you have to think about the safety and security of not only the vehicle, but also your own life and health.
In terms of the ability to quickly and efficiently track a car, get on its trail or find its exact location, satellite alarms are ahead of their competitors. But for such opportunities you have to pay significantly more. Therefore, satellite systems are mainly installed on the most expensive cars, where the security costs are fully justified.
It should be noted that among satellite car alarm systems there are solutions that are quite inexpensive for this segment. Moreover, these car alarms are gradually becoming more accessible.
Satellite alarms
Security systems of this type use both satellite and cellular technologies. The vehicle is equipped with a compact device that receives and transmits satellite signals. Communication with the dispatcher is maintained thanks to a GPS signal.
In the event of an emergency (for example, an unplanned opening of a door or trunk), an encrypted SMS is sent from the car and received by the control center. The dispatcher’s responsibilities include establishing contact with the owner of the vehicle or authorized persons in order to determine the cause of the alarm. After confirming that the call was correct, the dispatcher can use the GPS system to control certain vehicle systems. First of all, we are talking about the possibility of tracking the location of a stolen car. In addition, operations such as blocking the engine, closing doors and calling a first responder are available.
Ordinary consumers are confused by the high cost of such systems. As you know, you have to pay for reliability. However, nothing is impossible for experienced thieves. Jammers are aimed at jamming the GPS signal in public places (hospital, theater, etc.). No matter how sad it may sound, the devices mentioned can be used for other purposes than their intended purpose. There are no problems with purchasing such devices. On the Internet the price starts from 17,500 rubles.
Attackers are capable of causing damage to a car even in the absence of a jammer. Attempts to get out of a locked car often end with the side windows breaking. In such situations, thieves take away everything they can.

Features and Benefits
For objective reasons, the popularity of satellite car alarms is growing rapidly. Yes, such security systems are rarely seen on budget models, but starting from the mid-budget segment, the satellite system is rapidly gaining momentum.
Moreover, car owners are not afraid of the fact that initially car alarms with satellite communication functions are more expensive than conventional systems. For a lot of money, the consumer receives expanded capabilities and undeniable advantages. It is necessary to list the main ones.
- Operating range. Satellite car alarms are practically unlimited in terms of range. Restrictions depend only on the coverage area of the operator with whom the system works. Many domestic satellite operators provide coverage not only throughout Russia, but also cover European countries. When you connect to roaming, your coverage goes to the whole world.
- Functional. The range of functions here is truly huge. Among the most significant and useful are the remote control system, Anti Hi-Jack system, immobilizer, programmable engine start, etc.
- Vehicle control. You can control the position of the vehicle at any time and anywhere. This does not depend on where the car owner is located or where the car is currently located. Thus, you can leave your car at home, go to other countries, and from there you can still receive operational information in the event of an unauthorized access attempt.
- Silent notification. Satellite alarms can use standard beepers, which begin to sound throughout the entire area. But this does not frighten many attackers at all, which is why classic sound alarms are actively losing their popularity. Instead, the advanced system sends notifications. You must admit that it is not always possible for the owner of a vehicle to hear the alarm going off. Only if the car is under the windows, and the driver himself is at home. But a modern person always has a phone at hand.
- Extended security guarantees. In terms of operational efficiency, satellite alarms are superior to many of their competitors. By purchasing such equipment, a person gains more confidence and opportunities to prevent theft. And even if the theft took place, it will still be much easier to find the car.
The efficiency and quality of operation of a satellite-type car alarm largely depends on its configuration, correct installation and placement of the main units.
Installation of such equipment should be trusted exclusively to specialists. Typically, installation is carried out by the same organizations that sell car security systems on the Russian market.
Security system device
Although different satellite alarms differ from each other, they have similar equipment, operating principles and design. Cost and capabilities largely depend on additional functions.
The device itself is a small plastic box containing a battery and electronic components. The battery charge lasts for an average week of battery life. A GPS tracker can work for several months. The system periodically sends a signal about its location. In normal mode, the device is powered by a battery.
Also inside there are various microcircuits and a GPS beacon. The unit receives information from tilt, pressure and motion sensors. If there is any change in the state inside the cabin during arming, the alarm is triggered.
Satellite signaling operation
Many satellite car alarms are paired with an immobilizer, if a standard one is not installed. It is convenient for the driver to control the alarm and door locking from one key fob. If a stranger tries to start the car, the engine lock and alarm will immediately sound.
Varieties
Before moving directly to the rating of car alarms, it is worth noting what a satellite alarm installed on a car can be like.
The equipment appeared on the market not so long ago. But in the short period of its existence, the developers managed to create an extensive list of varieties. Therefore, they should be divided into appropriate categories.
- Paging. The most affordable price. Due to their low cost, they are widely used among Russian motorists and owners of relatively inexpensive vehicles. The paging system allows you to determine where the car is and inform you about its condition.
- GPS systems. The GPS monitoring system is an improved and more expensive alarm system. With its help, not only vehicle tracking occurs. To this functionality is added remote control of systems, as well as expanded access to the protection of individual elements such as the engine, steering and fuel system.
- Duplicate. If we talk about cost, then these alarms are currently the most expensive. This is an elite category of security satellite equipment. The range of functions is huge. There are various levels of tracking, alerting, vehicle control, etc. It is only relevant to install them on the most expensive cars, where security costs are determined by financial risks in the event of theft, burglary or theft of the vehicle.
The current selection is truly enormous. Moreover, you can find suitable systems for different budgets and specific individual needs.
How to install and connect
Installation and connection of an anti-theft device includes the following steps:
- Installation of the head unit. It is installed behind the dashboard in the area of the steering column. To do this, remove the dashboard and decorative trims of the side pillars. To gain access to the ignition switch, remove the steering column.
- LED indicator installation. The cable from the light bulb is connected to the antenna. The latter is placed on the windshield or in the corner of the cabin.
- Connecting the head unit to the on-board network. First turn the key in the ignition switch.
- Connecting the central lock.
- Installation of light indicators. The part is mounted in the area of the emergency switch. The block is connected to the ignition switch.
- Siren installation. The part is installed with the horn down, placing it under the hood. You need to choose a place protected from water.
- Installation of sensors. These system elements are located near the head unit.
- Installation of a service button. The part is installed in an inconspicuous place.
Because satellite alarm system includes a large number of nodes, it will be difficult to install it yourself.

To protect against capture, regular monitoring of the installed tag is provided. Additionally, we can highlight the use of shock and movement sensors of the protected vehicle.
The price is quite high - approximately 55-60 thousand rubles. But the owners themselves note that the cost of the system is fully justified, so they do not regret the money spent.
Pandora NAV05
Positioned as an anti-theft search system with a satellite navigation system. Has GSM, GPS and GLONASS beacons.
The alarm system is designed to protect against attempted theft and robbery. Makes it possible to quickly track the current location of vehicles, while simultaneously displaying the route of movement. This information is available when you log in to the official website. It has 3 most important modes at once: autonomous beacon, tracking and anti-theft protection along with security.
In many respects, this is the best satellite alarm that can be installed on a car for less than 20 thousand rubles. There is a special security regime here. When the owner leaves the car with the radio tag, the complex switches to a special mode. This activates the three-dimensional accelerometer. The system reacts to shocks, movements, tilts, and power outages. Plus, additional wireless sensors are triggered.
Compared to conventional beacons, which transmit coordinates upon request or alarm, this alarm system protects the car in real time and promptly reports any impact on the car using SMS notifications.
Moreover, the equipment is easy to install and configure. In fact, you only need to connect a couple of wires from the external power supply of the main unit and the relay. Consumes a minimum of energy, which allows you to maintain autonomy in operation for a long time.

Cesar Satelite Escort X+
The current cost of such a security complex is about 53 thousand rubles. This is an updated system that is aimed at premium and business class cars, as well as cars at high risk of theft.
In addition to the basic capabilities of the satellite anti-theft system, there is also a driver ejection protection mode. The kit includes an electronic identification tag. It has two-way dynamic digital code, as well as variable frequency channels. This tag completely prevents it from being scanned.
The tag in the car monitors the entire system, reacting to any movements and influences. If the tag disappears, an alarm signal is automatically sent to the Satellite control center.
GSM alarms
Anti-theft systems in this category are positioned as a more budget-friendly type of satellite alarm. The low cost is due to the truncated functionality. In particular, we are talking about the lack of GPS navigation, which simplifies the procedure for finding a stolen car using a map. The task of the GSM module is limited to making a call to the owner of the vehicle after receiving an alarm signal. In some cases, it is possible to send SMS with relevant content.
Such complexes are not in great demand. The cost of GSM alarms is comparable to the price of a high-quality mechanical security device (MUL-T-LOCK lock) or an electronic anti-theft system capable of blocking the electrical circuit responsible for closing and opening the engine start.
Arkan Control L
The purchase of such a satellite alarm will cost approximately 40 thousand rubles. Not the most expensive option from Arkan, but the complex can be considered optimal in terms of price, functionality and included options.
Positioned as a professional protection system. It has a rich arsenal of functions for monitoring and protecting vehicles. There is a sound siren, a remote engine blocking system, identification via a contactless tag, etc.
The alarm system allows you not to search for the key every time to disable or activate the security. The mode turns off automatically when the door is unlocked. This happens immediately after receiving a permission signal from the tag, and the equipment monitors the presence of the tag while driving. If communication is lost, the engine is automatically blocked. It won't be possible to go any further. Helps in case of robberies and throwing the driver out of the car.
By activating the security mode, the system will monitor all current parameters. These include attempts to open doors, start the ignition, and so on. You can connect a module to the system for autostart from a distance.
Purpose and scope of use
Let's generally answer the question, what is a GPS tracker and what is it used for? Most often, they are used to counter hijackers. After all, they make it easy to detect a vehicle (not just a ground vehicle) after it has been moved without the owner’s knowledge. Such devices are often equipped not only with cars, but also with water and air vehicles. Often other objects, such as cargo containers, are also equipped with such devices.
So what benefits does a tracking beacon give us? These devices are used not only as anti-theft devices, but also to track the movements of leased vehicles, as well as to track the movements of official vehicles (for example, taxis). This provides not only additional protection (when using other anti-theft systems) of the vehicle, but also protection of personnel (drivers), because the owner can see, in real time, the current coordinates of the device, and therefore the object.
A GPS beacon is also often called a GPS sensor or GPS sensor.
Design and principle of operation
The beacon determines its position (and therefore the position of the object) at certain intervals, after which it transmits certain coordinates to the server, and then goes into sleep mode. Sleep mode not only allows you to greatly save battery power, but also makes it difficult for various special devices, so-called scanners, to detect the beacon.
Finding this device visually is not very easy because of its compactness. After all, such devices are very small. Their dimensions now may not be much larger than a cigarette pack, and sometimes even smaller. This makes it possible to install it inconspicuously on site, for example in a car, you can install a similar device in the engine compartment, as well as in the wheel arches or even inside one of the seats, as well as in many other, sometimes most unexpected places. A fully autonomous GPS beacon must have some kind of energy source.
The beacon is controlled using the GSM channel, for this they use the same server on which data about the object’s movements is stored, as well as various mobile applications installed on various devices, for example on a smartphone. After installing such an application, this device is capable of not only controlling the beacon, but also displaying its coordinates.
The main elements of such devices are modules that provide the receipt of coordinates and their transmission to the owner’s device. These are the so-called GPS module (this module is responsible for receiving signals from satellites, and therefore for obtaining coordinates) and the GSM module (it is responsible for transmitting data received coordinates to the owner). This action is carried out via the GSM channel (everything works through it mobile phones and other mobile devices. This is why such devices are often called a GSM beacon.
Satellites of such systems help to obtain position information: the American GPS system and the Russian Glonass system.
In devices such as GPS beacons, it is preferable to use modules that support the use of both of these systems.
A device such as a GPS sensor can receive power both from the built-in power source and from the on-board network of the vehicle on which it is installed. Currently, there are models that allow power supply in one or the other way. There are also models that can supply power through both channels (the so-called combined power supply).
One of the most important properties of this type of device is its autonomy. That is, the ability to work for a long time without connecting to an external power source, this is especially important when installing such devices on objects that are without a power source for a long time, as well as on objects that do not include any power sources at all (this happens, for example, when installing such devices on cargo containers).
Why is a GPS sensor better than a regular alarm system? Let's take a closer look.
- A conventional alarm may often go off because, for example, a cat jumped on the hood of a car, or the vehicle was exposed to a powerful gust of wind.
- The range of conventional alarms is limited by various objective factors. This, for example, is the maximum range the owner can hear a siren; when installing a so-called feedback alarm, this is the range at which the signal of this alarm can be received by a special key fob.
- Experienced hijackers are not only primarily concerned with disabling the alarm, but also have a wide range of various types of devices and devices for this purpose.
Based on the above, we can note such positive aspects when using devices such as a beacon for these purposes. They are:
- Transferring data about the coordinates of an object to its owner, regardless of the distance (this is done via a GSM network, which means that if both devices, both the beacon itself and the device used by the owner, for example a smartphone, are in the area of sufficiently good reception of their networks, then the position signal will be transmitted even from the other side of the world), that is, distance does not affect the transmission of information when using such devices.
- They are difficult to detect even with the use of a modern set of devices specifically designed for this, such as, for example, various ether scanners or similar devices. This is also difficult to do given the very small size of these devices.
Important: often instead of special beacons for tracking a car, ordinary mobile phones are used, with all the advantages of this method of solving this issue, the main one of which is the low price, there is a very significant disadvantage - ease of detection, because the phone is always in active mode, while the beacon is more part of the time it is in sleep mode and does not manifest itself in any way.
Criterias of choice
Now, having decided on the basic properties of such devices as a GPS sensor, let’s look at the next question: which beacon is best to purchase for installation on your vehicle or other object that needs to be tracked?
When choosing a device for installation at your site, you must consider the following criteria:
- Manufacturer. Well-known brands provide high-quality devices, but the quality of devices from unknown brands is a lottery. Therefore, to protect such an expensive object, such as a car, it is worth choosing devices from well-known brands (even if they are more expensive). Their quality will be guaranteed to be high.
- Accuracy of determining the coordinates of the protected object. According to the current standard, such devices must provide a position accuracy of 2.5 meters.
- A way to interact with a device to activate it, determine its position, and update software. SMS messages, voice communication, or Internet data.
- The tightness of the device. The durability of this device is important for devices installed on any objects when they are placed on various external surfaces. For example, such surfaces can be wheel arches, bumpers, or any other places that are difficult to detect. A non-sealed device can only be installed in a closed vehicle interior.
- A method of attaching a device to an object being monitored. The lighthouse can be fastened with bolts, magnets, and other methods, or it can do without any fastening at all. The choice of the method of attaching the beacon is made taking into account the intended method of use.
- Capacity of the internal power supply. Not only the battery life of the device, but also the size of the GPS sensor will depend on how capacious the source is used. It is very good if the device is equipped with a battery charge level indicator that allows you to see how much energy is currently in the battery, as well as estimate the approximate battery life of the beacon.
Having determined the basic parameters that your GPS sensor should have, you can proceed to the next step, namely choosing a device model suitable for your conditions.
The models currently on the market attract buyers with various advantages. For example, models from nameless Chinese manufacturers attract potential buyers primarily with their low price, but as mentioned above, their quality is always a lottery.
Devices from European manufacturers are usually of high quality, and therefore high reliability. The disadvantages of such devices include not only their high price, but they will also work poorly in low temperature conditions, and insufficient elaboration of interaction with our GSM networks, which have their own characteristics.
Domestic manufacturers of these devices also perform very well in this market. Although the quality of their products is currently not inferior to the quality of products from European manufacturers, their GPS sensor has a significantly lower price.
Note: The average price of a device from China is just over 1 thousand rubles. The prices of devices from European manufacturers, to put it mildly, are “biting” and for a device from Europe you will have to pay up to 14 thousand rubles. Lighthouses from domestic manufacturers cost about 5-7 thousand rubles.
What manufacturers are represented on the market today? We will not take into account the Chinese manufacturers of such equipment (there are many of them and they are all similar to each other like siblings. Devices from European manufacturers are too expensive, so we will consider here only models from several manufacturers; quite worthy competition for these devices are the domestically produced models on the market, They are of fairly high quality, but at the same time affordable for the vast majority of vehicle owners.
Let's take a closer look at the main features of beacons of various models. Often when buying a GPS tracker for a car at the car market, they sometimes ask for a GPS tracker for the car.
Cobra Connex Best Profi
High level satellite security alarm. Hence the price of more than 60 thousand rubles. But this is equipment with wide functionality, as well as an extensive number of options.
Reliably protects against theft and theft. Plus can quickly determine the location of the vehicle if it is stolen or loaded onto a tow truck.
The set includes sensors for tilt, shock, motion, door opening, ignition start and more. When they are triggered, a notification is immediately sent to the owner’s phone. If there is not enough time to respond to attempts to steal a car, then the built-in GPS receiver will allow you to track your movements in real time.
It will not be possible to use the electronic hacking method, as well as to leave on your own, with such a system. Wired and wireless engine blocking will work immediately. In case of unauthorized entry into the salon, an SMS message is sent to the owner’s phone. You can also connect notifications via email and a regular landline phone.
Control is realized through a compact contactless tag. It is enough to carry it with you so that the alarm automatically turns on and off as the owner moves away from the car.
Wireless blocking relays or wired communication in SPRING complexes?
In alarm systems common on the modern market, the installation of wireless interlocking relays is positioned as a key element of security. It is argued that the inability to track them via the wire connecting to the central unit increases the car’s resistance to theft. However, their emergency activation is simply blocked by the same means of jamming the airwaves - without receiving a blocking signal from the central unit of the system, such a radio relay will become absolutely useless, and after removing the central alarm unit the hijacker will not even have to look for it.
By using wired communication between the units in the SPRING complex, we guarantee the reliable operation of all interlocks implemented in the car, even when powerful radio jamming devices are operating. Proper laying of connecting lines (hiding additional wiring in standard harnesses is the basis for proper connection of security systems) does not give the thief any advantages when searching for individual units. Installing “satellite” alarms in this way costs a little less, since the volume of assembly/disassembly in the cabin is almost the same - and we are talking about a standard installation, vulnerable at least due to the predicted placement of the central unit.
Cobra Connex Garant
Such a complex will cost 37 thousand rubles. This is a modern security and search satellite alarm system that uses advanced anti-theft systems. GPS navigation and GSM communication are provided.
Already in the basic configuration there is a full set of sensors that monitor the behavior of the machine. These are sensors for tilt, shock, motion, door opening, disconnecting the antenna from the alarm, battery and ignition.
There is also a panic button here. When pressed, instant communication with the dispatch center is carried out. To ensure safety, the button is placed individually for each car and driver, choosing the optimal location for installation.
When installing the system, the main control remains on the standard key. In this case, activation and deactivation of security is carried out by carrying a miniature tag with you. It is contactless and reads automatically.
The alarm has an autonomous power supply. Therefore, even if the battery is disconnected, the car remains under reliable protection.
When choosing an alarm system, it is necessary to take into account a number of parameters, requirements and personal wishes regarding the functions and capabilities of the system. Modern satellite alarms are universal protection systems that include far more than just the ability to track the vehicle’s position. But also to prevent in every possible way any attempts at hacking and theft.
What do you think about satellite alarms? How necessary and effective are these systems? Who has such a complex installed on their car?
