How do they look
Almost everyone can imagine what stamped wheels look like, since stampings are currently the most common car wheels - about 70 percent of cars use them. And also almost all commercial vehicles are equipped with stamps.
Many consider the appearance of stamped wheels to be their main disadvantage. Indeed, they do not have such a variety of designs as their forged and cast counterparts, and they are all similar to each other. Only the colors can differ radically.
Life time
The level of wear resistance of stamped discs is strongly influenced by two indicators:
- disc deformation while driving;
- corrosion.
This is especially evident on bad roads. Since R14 stamping wheels are made of steel, they are much softer and more ductile than, for example, casting. But in this case it plays into the hands of car enthusiasts. If, when it falls into a hole, the casting cracks and becomes unusable, then the dies will simply be dented. This is not difficult to fix. The disk will simply need to be rolled over the rim and you can continue to use it. For minor damage, you can even handle it yourself with a sledgehammer or hammer. Moreover, you can correct it more than once.
Painted stampings
The second important factor that reduces the service life of dies is that they rust. Accordingly, if the disk becomes very rusty, it will no longer be usable. Therefore, it is important to store car wheels in dry, indoor areas. Painting can also slightly prevent inevitable corrosion.
Thus, it is not possible to clearly name the service life of stamped car wheels. With proper care and careful driving, they can last over 30 years. On the contrary, if, for example, you leave a car disk in a damp place for a long time, it may simply rot in a few years.
Wheel size information: characteristics
It’s worth mentioning right away that there is a set of wheel sizes that are recommended by the manufacturer itself. That is, you definitely won’t find anything better than what the manufacturer itself offers. There are also wheel sizes that will simply fit a second Ford Focus. There are also specific sizes and specific wheel models or even wheels and tires that will fit your Ford Focus 2.
Factory rim sizes
So, in this case, it’s immediately worth noting that there are different disk sizes. In general, as you know, there are 195/65-R15 and 205/55-R16 tires (radius 15 and 16 inches, respectively). The first type of tire is characterized by the following dimensions:
- 6JR15;
- 5×108;
- ET52.5;
- DIA 63.3.
The following models have the second disk sizes:
- 6.5JR16;
- 5×108;
- ET52.5;
- DIA 63.3.
As for how each of these drive sizes are decrypted, we'll look at that a little further. In general, it’s worth noting right away that, despite the designations that are a little unclear at first glance, it will be quite easy to determine what size wheels can be installed for your Ford Focus 2.
Non-factory wheel sizes
- 6JR15;
- 5×108;
- ET52.5;
- DIA 63.3.
Of course, this tire size is not nearly as suitable for the standard Ford Focus 2 wheels. But if you are still at a crossroads about which size to choose, the argument in favor of these models will be their price. Most often, this size of disks will cost much less than standard factory models. Again, this size will fit perfectly on Ford Focus 2 tires.
However, there are no special features regarding the installation of tires of this size. They can be installed in exactly the same way as regular factory size wheels. Of course, any manipulation of the Ford Focus 2 has certain features, including this one. But it certainly won’t cause any difficulties, there’s no doubt about that.
As you can see, the tire size in the second Ford Focus has certain codes, and it would be useful to figure out how to decipher them. After all, in order to understand what specific dimension you need, you need to know their size. Everything in this regard is extremely simple.
Decoding sizes
So, the wheel size is deciphered as follows.
The first number (can be 6 or 5J) is the width of the rim. In this case, inches are used, not centimeters.
This is extremely important to remember when choosing a rim or wheels in general. The second part (R15 or R16) is already the diameter
This value is also measured in inches. Next, the drilling is indicated - the number of holes intended for fastening the wheels and through the symbol “x” their diameter of location around the hub hole. For example, 4x107. After this, a value called overhang is indicated. It is usually indicated in millimeters (this is extremely important to remember). In the above examples, this value can be seen under the designation “ET52.5”. Next you can see the diameter of the hole for the hub. This value is also indicated in millimeters. In the examples that can be seen above, this dimension is indicated, for example, as “DIA63.3”. After that comes the tire width. There are only two options here - 195 or 205 millimeters. Again, it is important that this value is not measured in inches. The penultimate value in this code is the tire height. Here we use inches and not centimeters, but a percentage of the width. There are also only two options - 55 or 65%. Finally, the last value in this code is the fit diameter. Here again everything is indicated in inches. Maybe 15 or 16 inches.
The Ford Focus 2 has such a value as offset. This refers to the distance from the mounting area to the longitudinal axis of the disk. This tire parameter can be found very rarely and the Ford Focus 2 is one of the few such models. The size of the disk affects this parameter.
How to choose original rims
Popular Russian manufacturer of stampings TZSK. Often on the market you can find products from Chinese Trebl, which are not durable. The largest manufacturer of dies is the Ukrainian plant KrKZ. More expensive options for stamped car wheels are also available. For example, these are KFZ stampings, which are more expensive, but of better quality. Wheels of this brand are presented in basic configurations of the Volkswagen and Toyota concerns.
A large number of car models, especially in the basic configuration, are supplied by the factory with stamped wheels. And that motorist who wants to acquire original wheels must look for products recommended by the manufacturer of his car.

Maneuverability
When the car hits a bump, the wheel absorbs the impact and transmits it through the shock absorber to the body. In turn, the body with its weight (through the shock absorber) compensates for this impact, and the wheel returns to its original position. The smaller the unsprung mass, the less force the impact on the body occurs, in addition, less effort is spent when maneuvering. But if the weight of the body is very small relative to the weight of the wheel (all unsprung parts), then the wheel will not be able to quickly return to its original position, which is fraught with loss of control (skidding).
Dynamic properties
The car’s ability to quickly accelerate and provide effective braking also depends on the unsprung mass. The more the wheels weigh, the more energy is needed to increase the speed of their rotation (which ensures the acceleration of the car), the same applies to the braking process.
The engine is only capable of producing a limited amount of power at any given time. Therefore, the more the wheels weigh, the more engine power is spent on spinning them, and the less power is left for quick acceleration. In numbers, it looks like this: when the weight of the wheels (unsprung mass) increases by 1 kg, the car loses 1% of power. Therefore, to increase the acceleration speed and enhance braking efficiency, lightweight rims are installed; with lightweight rims, the car accelerates faster.
Smooth ride
The ratio of sprung and unsprung masses also affects the smoothness of the ride; an ideal ratio can be achieved using two methods - increase the sprung mass or reduce the unsprung mass. The first method has certain drawbacks, since increasing the weight of the car (for example, due to additional ballast in the cabin or trunk) reduces the acceleration dynamics. Therefore, most often they try to make the wheels very light, reducing the unsprung weight.
There are fully defined characteristics - reducing the weight of the wheel (each of the wheels) by 1 kg. has the same effect as reducing body weight by 40 kg. In other words, reducing the weight of each wheel by 4 kg. (the total reduction in unsprung weight will be 16 kg), you can achieve the same smooth ride that is observed when there are several passengers in the cabin. But with all this, the car accelerates much faster than when loaded (as if there were actually passengers sitting in the cabin).
Which wheels are lighter (forged, cast, stamped)?
Stamped steel wheels are the heaviest, which has become a common reason for replacing them with alloy wheels immediately after purchasing a new car. However, steel wheels have a minimal cost, so they continue to occupy a strong position in the automotive spare parts market.
Cast aluminum alloy wheels are approximately 20% lighter than steel wheels; manufacturing technology allows you to realize almost any designer’s imagination. In addition, alloy wheels provide better cooling of the brake system.
Forged wheels are the lightest. Discs made using hot stamping technology are, in turn, 20% lighter than cast discs and 50% lighter than stamped steel discs. The main obstacle to their unconditional dominance among other types of car wheels is the price - forged wheels are slightly more expensive than cast wheels, and much more expensive than steel ones.
Magnesium cast wheels occupy a special place on the market; such wheels are somewhat heavier than forged ones, but much lighter than aluminum wheels. However, magnesium wheels are not widely used because they are less durable than aluminum wheels and cannot be repaired if damaged. Magnesium wheels are purchased by fans of fast driving and dynamic maneuvering, and owners of sports cars.
Stamping of car wheels with a diameter of 14 inches
Stamped car wheels are so called because they are made using the stamping method:
- A plate, the central part, is extruded from a steel blank using a stamping press. The stiffeners are pressed through. Holes for the bolts are drilled. The unnecessary edge is removed. The plate is ready.
- Next, the rim is made. A long sheet of steel is cut. Bends into a cylinder. Welded along the seam, the seam is cut off for smoothness. The cylinder is pressed with a press, the shape of the disk is set. The edges are sanded.
- It would be more correct to call such a disk stamped-welded. Since only the central part itself is stamped, and the rim is obtained by rolling, then the two parts are welded.
- At the end, a hole for the nipple is drilled. Covered with paint.
Among the disadvantages are susceptibility to corrosion, high weight, worse balancing, which means worse road stability and controllability.

Ford Scorpio wheel bolt pattern
One of the wheel rim parameters is the bolt pattern. Each manufacturer of foreign cars determines the value of the bolt pattern of wheel rims only for their own or standard rims, while for non-original vehicles this parameter differs by a fraction of a millimeter.
Is it important? What are fractions of millimeters? However, when installing “non-standard” rims, fractions of millimeters play an important role while driving. Remember, it is necessary that the wheel bolt pattern readings exactly match the factory dimensions of your wheels.
Galaxy2
- in itself, the difference in offset by 2.5 mm is not critical, but the stamping from the Focus/Mondeo3 (the one with an offset of 52.5) has other “unpleasant” differences for the Galaxy: the Galaxy has a wheel stud diameter of 14 mm, while the Focus/ Mondeo 3 - 12mm, the wheels seem to fit on these studs, but the nuts cling to the very edge of the shoulder; the second difference is in the permissible load - for standard Galaxy wheels it is 750 kg, for Focus wheels it is less, I don’t know the exact figure
